Aid Another Survival: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11
Sindarintol assists Jaxal. You are definitely right this looks to be another good trail over here.
The tall elf points to another section of a well used path.

Mamori stumbles over undergrowth, touches the poison ivy and almost drops into a hole in the ground. She tries to climb a tree to have a look over the area, but she's not able to get up even an inch. She's walking in the wrong direction, back to Absalom.

Levin takes three steps forward, and one foot lands in a snake-hole. The creature that made it, not at all amused, slithers out angrily, hissing. Panicking, Levin runs in a random direction. The snake pursues for awhile, but loses interest. No longer able to see his allies, he pulls out his coin. "Don't fail me now!" He kisses the coin and sets out again.
Survival: 2d20 ⇒ (10, 1) = 11
Wow, this place hates me.

He makes it back to where he was to begin with, but now the group has gone without him.

Grimnir finally manages to lead the group to the right track after many trials and travails, but tthe The dense forest opens to a wide clearing at the base of a sheer cliff. Thick vines cover the surface of the cliff stretching 30 feet overhead. “Here! The cave entrance is behind those vines,” Janira says with a broad smile as she walks to the cliff’s face. She pulls back several layers of vegetation to reveal a narrow crack in the cliff’s surface. “This is where I saw the gillmen enter.” As she motions toward the aperture, the surrounding woods come alive with the sound of small animals fleeing some unseen danger and a large creature crashing through the undergrowth. The halfling worriedly remarks, “Quick, take cover before whatever it is spots us!” As if she’d summoned the creature with her words, a massive horned monstrosity emerges from the trees. Standing eight feet tall on a pair of cloven hooves and wielding a tremendous axe, the bull-headed creature roars with unbridled anger when it spots the group. Wisely assessing that a minotaur is beyond her charges’ capabilities, Janira screams, “A minotaur! There’s little chance we can stand against it. Take this bag,” she continues, pulling off her backpack, “and head deeper into the caves. Finish your mission. I’ll lead it away from the caves, lose it in the forest, and join you as soon as I can. Now go! GO!” She heaves her backpack into the cave, casts a spell, and darts off toward the minotaur before turning to lure it away.
You have one standard action in which to choose your path: fight or flight?

Grimnir watches in dismay as Janira runs into the woods to lure the creature away.
"Nae be need ta act 'astily, lass! Together we can vanquish this beast, but if'n ye think nae, I'll be followin' yer orders!"
The dwarf looks hesitant to leave their leader, but willing to comply.

"Good luck!" Levin gives the brave halfling girl a wink and dashes into the cave.

The party moves into a rough hewn tunnel, about 5 feet wide, and about 7 feet tall. The drip of water permeates your hearing, and the walls and floor are slick with the drippings.

Ha! That doesn't bode well!
"Everybody ok? Let's catch our breath and then figure out how we want to do this."
Jaxal shakes the sack, and then looks inside. "Janira really came prepared. These should help us."
Anyone want to claim anything? I could use the scroll of mage armor, and the thrown weapons if no one else will use them.

Grimnir's eyes quickly adjust to the darkness.
"Look, lads...tracks. Like a 'uman, but wit' webbed feet..."
He looks back toward the cave entrance.
"Le's 'ope Janira can take care of 'erself. Fer us, onward we go."
He takes one of the healing potions from Janira's pack, then says "Off we go!"

"Webbed feet sounds like our Gillman. Where do you see them? I hadn't even noticed."
Jaxal draws a picture of the footprint in his journal and updates some notes. Then he wraps his scarf around his neck to keep off the chill as they go deeper into the cave.
I don't know what our marching order is, but Jaxal is probably going to want to be in the center or back.

GM DevilDoc |

Gm: 1d6 ⇒ 6
As you sort out your marching order, you come to realize that the walls of the tunnel are glowing faintly. Once your eyes become adjusted, you begin your trek into the caverns. The narrow tunnel twists and turns for several hundred feet before slowly opening to a wider passage. A large hole spans the cave’s width and stretches ten feet down the path. At the bottom of the pit, among a gruesome series of spikes, lies a small bundle of cloth.

Grimnir removes his armor, takes a length of knotted rope from his backpack, then secures it to a stalagmite.
"I'll test it an' ensure it's safe," he says, then carefully descends. [ooc]take 10 climb for a 13[/dice]

Not sure how wide the pit is but...
Seeing the path blocked by a pit, Mamori takes a running start and jumps across it to the other side. hopefully
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

GM DevilDoc |

Mamori: The pit is ten feet across, but with a 29, I am not even going to look that one up! lol.. You made it over.
Grimnir easily makes it to the bottom of the pit.

![]() |

Grimnir picks up the bundle of cloth at the bottom of the pit and examines it.
"Cloth..." Grimnir responds as he holds the bundle up for Sindarintol to see.
Then, he carefully scales the other side to secure a rope the others can climb.
Once again take 10 climb for 13

![]() |

"Me neither. My little legs aren't like hers! Let's go the long way."
Take 10 on a Climb check for a 12.

"If you toss one side of the rope up once you are all down, I can attach it at a stalacmite and you can ascend more easily."

I feel that I owe you guys an apology for my lax posting. Given everything that has been happening, taking care of my wife has, of course, been my utmost priority, but things should settle down for a bit. I had to return home for school and work, but my wife remains with her family. There may come a day soon when I have to go retrieve her, but I will let you know if that happens. As for now, we should be back to regular posting..
Sindarintol: The cloak resonates as magic. Maybe not the strongest, but magic none the less. With your spellcraft check, you recognize this as a Cloak of Resistance +1
So, Tell me if I am wrong, but I have all but Jaxal on the other side?

![]() |

I suppose taking 10 on this is better than that!
Climb, Take 10: 20 - 2 = 18
It would be sad to be taken down by a known pit! I do have a potion and a scroll of CLW if anyone needs to try and mend my broken body at the bottom.

GM DevilDoc |

Jaxal: With the others assisting you, and the knotted rope, you are able to make it down and back up with moderate difficulty, but no personal harm!
The tunnels continue on, leading deeper beneath the Kortos Mounts until they eventually open into a large cavern. What must have once been beautifully carved reliefs and inscriptions have since weathered heavily, their features dulled and softened to the point that it is hard to distinguish what each once depicted. A wide tunnel exits the cavern on its far side, and blue-burning torches line the passageway’s walls.

"Have you all read the History and Future of Humanity? Look at these inscriptions... they are depictions of various passages. This one is "the Artist". But wait, something is different. This isn't exactly as I would have imagined it. I wonder if this is even older than the current printings of the text?
See how in this one, Aroden is painting murals on the walls of impressive buildings. He painted the city of Absalom with beautiful colors so that it might awe all who visited."

GM DevilDoc |

Moving on, if no one objects..
The soft light of the surrounding fungus mixes with the flickering glow of the nearby torches to reveal a grand chamber. A large pool of water along the chamber’s southern edge reflects the blue and green radiance to illuminate the massive stalactites that cling to the ceiling overhead. Two other tunnels branch off from this area, leading to the east and west. Rising up from the pool is a column of rock with steeply sloped sides and a flat top, as if someone had sawn off the top of a massive stalagmite. A miniature city carved from this same stone occupies nearly the entire surface. Tiny trinkets such as ancient coins, polished semiprecious stones, and ornately braided loops of string are scattered throughout the diorama, and pale cave frogs clamber atop it. The smooth cavern floor is covered in gravel and pebbles along the edge of the pool, and several foot-long centipedes prowl among the gravel in their search for prey. Kneeling up to his shoulders in the water is a male figure.

Jaxal finished his notes on all the wall depictions, and follows the others in. Seeing the man in the water, he whispers "Look! That man might be one of the gillmen we seek. Let's be nice..."
