Backstory:

Spoiler:
Jameson grew up as so many young Varisians in Magnimar did: on and off the streets, running with various gangs and trying to stay one step ahead of the law while providing for himself. He learned many lessons in the City of Monuments, but none more important than “Keep true to your word.” While engaging in a bit of freelance treasure reallocation, Jameson acted as a chance savior for an older gentleman in outlander clothing.

Seeing a rival gang getting ready to roust and mug Professor Lorrimor for his coin, Jameson interrupted their attempt from the rooftops. Clocking one of the assailants with a chunk of roof tile and planting a boot firmly between the legs of another, the younger street thieves chose the better part of valor and beat feet. The Professor, a stranger to the young Sczarni, introduced himself and made some vague statements towards a future reward for such gallantry. Jameson dismissed the interaction within a matter of days, only concerned with potential retribution from his fellow thugs and cutpurses.

Years passed by without contact from the Professor, until the fateful day Jameson received an invitation to travel up to Ustalav to speak with the Professor once more. Remembering the vaguely promised reward, he packed up his traveling gear, girded his loins (and fortified his wine & whiskey stash), and set off north.

Description:

Spoiler:
James stands 5’9” tall, weighing 155 lbs. He has dark brown hair and lighter brown eyes, with a sun-tanned and weather beaten olive complexion. Only 20 years old, he carries himself with confidence and poise. A number of small scars cross his hands and forearms, obvious fighting scars to the trained eye. On the road, he wears his dark grey oiled leather armor under a heavy travelling cloak, with simple but durable boots. All his gear is similarly simple, but well kept and cleaned. His only obvious weapons are a belt knife sheathed across the small of his back, and a sheathed rapier strapped to the outside of his pack. He speaks with a bit of a Varisian accent, obviously reflecting his Magnimaran origins.

this alias was created for a gestalt carrion crown game that never really got off the ground (we started but never even made it to reading the will).

i completely retooled it because i was thinking about using the name and part of the backstory for a potential Giantslayer character... but he really does just fit the tone of this AP so much better. Sadly, now I will have to completely rebuild him again, lol.

i'm going to build him something like:

Randall Carter (aka Zagathoth)
N, Human; gestalt Slayer [stygian slayer]/Warpriest [sacred fist] 1

the basic idea is that he's part of a (very) minor noble family, and he presents himself as a gentleman. what most people don't know, however, is that since he was a child he's had bizarre dreams in which an unfathomable being from the distant reaches of the Great Beyond calls out to him. the being calls him Zagathoth, which he has accepted as his true name. he met secretly with the professor to try to figure out what was going on (to no avail). now he accepts the being as his patron and gains power from it. (I'm going for sort of a vaguely cthulhu-esque feel... if you want to write up a 'god' that's fine, i was just going to treat it like someone who worships a philosophy and take madness and void for the blessings; favored weapon is a moot point because I'm a sacred fist).

Please let me know if there's anything you don't like or would like changed (or love and want played up).

is this official now? or should I be wrestling with either 15pt buy or the will of RNG?

@Zagathoth

as of right now its still 15 or 4d6 i roll but if the power gap is too big between players im going to make everyone use a 20 point buy ^_^

i like the Cthulu-esque vibe the world im going for is like Hellboy steampunk/Cthulhu.

were magic its there but feared by most people

again please have any traits/flaws be in you background/Personality and some good personal hooks that i can implement into the game. I really want my players to have passion for the characters as i want to complete the whole campaign.

Shadow Lodge

I don't suppose I could take he set you rolled?
Mostly joking.
I'll get on building the character :)

This will be my first natural weapon specialist, and my first dread,
Yay for firsts.
Any suggestions for favored enemy/terrain?

Wait Magic is feared? Awesome. I'm playing a fear specialist!

in that case, i'll brave the RNG... roll away!

(and I will definitely include my traits in my background, as soon as I pick them, and rewrite it...)

Quit complaining. :) You realize that bogus set would have been mine if he hadn't rolled it for you, right? THe way the dice roller on here works. :)

Added into the backstory a few lines to do with his traits. Mainly he has vanity because he sees himself better than others and his inquisitor path right. His faith in the path and his Pharasman faith has gotten him out of a few pickles. He also views his equipment as a part of him thus his armour does not hinder him as much as other people.

Backstory:

Petrov knows Ustulav like an old friend. Growing up on a farm he had to deal with the strange things that prayed upon the livestock in the night. Somehow he made it to adulthood despite the dangers. If it were he who possessed this luck it was his parents who passed it on to him as they were the victims of an unexpected witch hunt. They were judged and found guilty, he couldn't believe it but the evidence was overwhelming. The reason their farm had received so few attacks compared to others in their region was because his mother was a witch and sacrificed the animals to appease those dark powers. The zealous inquisitors took him away with him, it was decided that he had nothing to do with it so they allowed him to live but only under their guidance so that he did not fall prey to the same dark path of his parents.

He was indoctrinated into the Pharasman faith and became an inquisitor himself when he was old enough to take the tests. His first hunt saw to the demise of a old necromancer in the middle of nowhere. Though he did nothing to trouble anyone, it was his duty to Pharasma to destroy such evil and it was only his own devout faith that stopped him from becoming another of the mans servants when it was revealed that he was less than harmless. Another such time on his travels across the land he came across another traveller who had been beset by bandits that were looking to rob him for all he was worth. He called them off but they refused until he put an arrow through one of them and they fled deciding the old man was not worth the trouble of fighting an armed and trained inquisitor. The old man was Professor Lorrimor. They kept travelling along and Petrov saw him to the safety of the next city, a thing not all that common for a soldier such as him to do. Lorrimor promised to never forget the kindness he had done for him. Petrov's training taught him to wear his armour like a second skin, it became a part of him in the fight against evil, protecting him every time. His success and time with the inquisitors led him to also see himself as better than others and sometimes look down upon them, though he always wanted to help improve Ustulav one bit at a time.

It surprised him to find a notice a year later of a summons to the man's funeral and a mention in his will. Confused, he nevertheless left Vigil where he had been residing for a little time and headed back into the heart of the country that he called home to solve the mystery of Professor Lorrimor.

Can we make multiple characters for submission? I have two hat acters Rollin around in my head
A dread/natural weapon path spelless ranger
And
A soulknife/warpriest

Bone Man, I present to you, Belo Flavatsky. I worked all Saturday night on him and I hope you are as pleased with him as I am. I opted for the point buy instead of risking Belo on the whims of the Dice Gods.

I was kind of excited about those stats til i remembered i had to subtract the lowest die from each set, lol. oh well, still works out to a 17 point buy (which is about a wash with getting to assign my own 15 points)... I'll start putting him together (and hoping we switch to a straight 20pt buy, lol).

hmmm... on further reflection (aka once i started plugging in numbers and seeing how he'd really work) I think I may need to consider switching his classes to function with those stats...

edit: can I have the rorek86 stats, if he's not gonna use them? I'd probably still have to change up my classes (the original idea is pretty MAD), but I'd have more options...

Going to have to drop out. I'm just a bit too busy in life right now. Which is a shame because i really wanted to have a shot at carrion crown. Best of luck.

I'm going to try submitting a slayer/cleric. I think it'll be fun.

Bone man, Belo Flavatsky has been updated to the new 20 pt. buy.

LOL, no problem. I haven't had time to update him to the rolled stats anyway, so no extra work on my part. :)

NP- i was mostly joking about taking the other stat set, lol. I am a little bit relieved to just have the 20 point buy though.

I really like my guy's fluff but I'm having a little trouble nailing down his crunch... part of me really likes the idea of making him an oracle/sorcerer but that flies in the face of my whole philosophy on making gestalt characters, and would obviously present some RP challenges in this style game (although a good RP challenge can be fun at times)...

I'll definitely have something submitted before the deadline... it may just be closer to the deadline than I'd prefer...

np dead line is march 6th and soon after that I will post my selections

Shadow Lodge

Hmm poo, I liked my set...
Point buy makes it so hard to choose stats...
Ok, aasimar for the warpriest, dhampir for the dread,
I'll have it up on Wednesday (my next day off)

Hmm. I'm having trouble "feeling" the character. Melee, Magic and Ranged are sort of the foci that are possible to have here. Ranged should be with guns, but I can't afford a gun at level one, so my character would be running around with a longbow in victorian england, which is just wierd.

Magic... is great, probably the thing that'd fit in best, but I don't have a concept for a caster.

Melee has the meta-game working against me, seeing as weapons and armor are frowned upon. Running around unarmored could be done, but I worry that it'd make my character a liability to the team. It also really doesn't fit the setting at all, unless you go for a bruisery kind of person, which runs into problems with weapons and armor. Hmm. I might do it regardless, need to think a little. Maybe a monk dip, strange as it is... But then I'd need to boost my wisdom. Hmm.

Shadow Lodge

You could play a monk, or a kensi or there's a paladin archetype that uses it's fists, warpriest (weapon focus on some concealable weapon or unarmed strike to let it be affected by sacred weapon damage)
Actually a warpriest/knife master rogue would be pretty potent.

AND to make it easier there have been cases of people decorating a big weapon to make it look like a fashion statement like a "monk" has a huge axe but it looks like a symbol of his faith or a gentleman walking with a cane ...just food for thought

edit

and ive been looking over submissions and one thing i would ask is if your character has a 16 or higher stat i.e str that it would reflect on your appearance since a 18 str is almost as strong as a gorilla ^_^

Shadow Lodge

So a 16str, 16 cha would look like a male model?

I suspect 'model' is the atlethic build you get around 14, while 16+ is the category that has impeessively big people in it.

I got a concept for a guy named Morg the Cryptkeeper. A Ustalavian travelling cleric of Pharasma. He will be a Cleric//Titan Fighter who walks around with a coffin on his back which is a scabbard for a large greatsword.

Kinda inspired by Gun Grave.

Shadow Lodge

I figure a coffin would stand out a bit, but my dread dhampir would find it rather hilarious
Note to self, watch gun grave when I run out of hunter x hunter

Hopefully it would stand out less than a giant sword.

Bane88 wrote:

yes it would be odd but with the pharasma cleric you could say he /she is a under taker they are always creepy back then. Since most of them kind of hoped for someone to die so they can get paid ^_^ i like it

Also reminds me of the priest from Vash the Stampede.

Shadow Lodge

@bane88: Would you mind if a dhampiric amature shapeshifter, and practitioner of fear magics would already know your character?

Heck no, I need friends.

Shadow Lodge

Cool we can do a colaborative backstory then, I'll post more after my shift.

The Dragon wrote:

that's pretty much it ya a 18/con str you would look like mister/miss universe but a high str amd low con it would be like well defined mussels but not much meat on the old bones there..or to make it really easy have a reference pic on you characters profile ty

Ikit lived the slums, in the dark, away from the people. He knew if they found him, he would be expeled or killed. That was not his intention. Better alive and unseen, than seen and be dead.

And so he lived his secluded little life alone. Tinkering with the chemicals he could find without people seeing him. With time, he managed to 'build' himself a very crude looking device, that he eventually learned that he could channel magic through it. It was fascinating. It took him a few years to finally 'master' it. Well, he thought he mastered it, bugs and all

He always had an ear to the ground, he didnt want to be found out, so he had to listen and watch, so he could run away quickly from any possible discovery of him. This lead him to find out about a very bad disease that was spreading through the town. He didn't feel it, nor was he affected by it. He figured it was becaase he lived in such filthy places any way

With his knowledge, he figured out what it was, or atleast what was causing it. And knowing if he did nothing, the town would soon spiral into chaos. He didnt want that. So over a period of time, he gathered his resources, the little he had, and risked confrontation with those in the town, the healers was his best bet. It took quite a while, especially with their fear of strangers and outsiders, but eventually he began to work with them to stifle and stop the spread of the disease
