After thinking for a moment, Elidal sighs and nods to herself. "Right. Well, let's see if we can get him to try coming to us. The rest of you wait here for a moment."

Readying her shield, she turns and moves back to close range of the gatehouse. She bangs her sword against the shield and calls out, "HEY! What sort of a troll are you that you hide behind that stone wall? If you're as indestructible as tales say then come out here and face us properly! Or are all trolls cowards like you!?"

"I can climb all right... But let's take a walk around first. If we're lucky, we can find a place out of sight..." says Emmett as he leads the group around the perimeter of the castle.

So, plan is to go on a wide circle to inspect the fortifications (not just the tower were in front of, but the whole thing) from every direction and identify a good spot to enter.

Simeon , hands on his knees from the quick run, shakes his head, "I don't think we'll find any other way. It's a well built edifice, only one way in I think. We'll have to deal with the troll."

Straightening, he puts his hands in the small of his back and stretches. Groaning a bit, he says, "In the city, I was able to procure some additional enchantments, a fiery explosion and another to hasten our movements. " He then opens his pack and shows some vials, "Acid and alchemical fire....both effective against the troll's unnatural vitality. "

"Well, at least we're prepared either way," Elidal smiles grimly. "I purchased some alchemical fire as well before we left the city. If Emmett wants to try and climb the wall as Father Toth said, we should be able to cover him long enough for him to do so."

"Very well. We wait a bit then, right? Then we approach stealthily, then I charge forward with Elidal's rope and try to climb while you shower it if it tries to shoot me. Right everyone? Well then, I guess I'm the rabbit this time. Aim well, those things have a tendency to hit more than their target..." grumbles Emmett as he takes the rope from Elidal and secures his axe on his back.

Jaru chuckles. "You may be trained to stalk as the jackal Sir, but we could not approach a deaf camel unmarked. Let us not waste any more daylight and strike now. We cover the troll with fire while you get the rope set."

Jaru gets his flasks in easy reach and casts spiritual weapon on our approach.

"Right then...where is it?..." Simeon mumbles as he flips through the scrolls in their case, "Ah! Here it is." he exclaims, producing a scroll, spidery script written thereon.

"This will make all of us quicker." he pronounces, then begins to recite from the scroll, one hand a-flutter in the air beside the piece of parchment.

As Simeon reads the arcane script, his free hand flutters faster and faster, his reading matching speed, until hand and voice are a buzz....until he abruptly stops and smiles.

All feel a sudden tingle tickle their fingers and toes then it dissapates.

"Let's go , while it lasts!" Simeon cries, waiting for the more durable to advance first.

Rope of climbing

Emmett looks at the others: "Right. So we're doing this. Give me a moment." he says, and proceeds to remove his armour. He turns to Simeon: "You got anything to help with my situation?"

Emmett takes the rope and commands it to form knots, then, feeling the rush of celerity, he commands his aching limbs to rush at the tower, working hard to forget he's running into a skilled and protected archer.

Once he reaches the foot of the wall, he throws the rope up, commanding it to snake up the battlements and coil around some crenellation, then he heaves himself up.

Climb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Sorry for no post yesterday; crashed after work last night before I could get a post in for all of my games! Elidal will throw some alchemist's fire too.

As everyone readies themselves, Elidal nods gratefully at Nalun as the musician blesses her and Emmett with power from the scrolls he purchased. Well aware that sometimes a strong offense could be the best defense, she also calls upon Iomaedae's power to guide the aim of her next attack.

Casting True Strike. May as well make sure it hits, considering this is a lower power, lower wealth game and alchemist's fire doesn't grow on trees!

When the signal is given, she moves forward with Father Toth and flings one of her bottles of liquid fire at the troll.

Attack (Alchemist's Fire; Ranged Touch, Heroism, True Strike): 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 + 20 = 30

The troll, prepping for such a charge lets fly a crossbow bolt at Jaru again.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 for 2d8 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6

You charge up - Emmett throws the rope up and commands it to find purchase.

Simeons alchemist fire misses and given there is cover there will not be splash damage.

Elidals alchemist fire flies 'true and coats the troll in fire. (4hps). Most impressive is Jarus' shot with a vial of Alchemist fire - it smashes into the side of the trolls head (another 11hps) and the spectral athaeme he has summoned up stabs the troll deeply (another 9hps).

The next round commences. The troll waits for Emmett when he is climbing up (and denied dex to AC). It burns some more from alchemist fire - 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9.

Everyone act again. All but Emmett will be resolved first.

The troll will interrupt Emmetts climbing with a full round attack as he climbs over the crellations, then depending on Emmett falling/dying etc Emmett can attack etc

Rolling his shoulders, Simeons pulls out another scroll and begins a low chant, one of his wrists circling , circling until stopping his palm pointed at the Troll, two silvery orbs of force fly forth, striking with unerring precision.

Emmett pulls his axe out and, instead of attacking, moves back and away from the rope, hoping to lure the troll away and let Elidal climb up.

Rolling the trolls attacks (I didnt factor in the advanced template so these are the proper rolls).

Melee bite +10 (1d8+7), 2 claws +8 (1d6+7)

bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 for 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Claw 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Claw 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Elidal continues to find herself impressed by Emmett's ability to duck and dodge blows when it counts, a reminder that there's always something to be learned from others no matter their age.

"Keep up the pressure, I'm going up after him!" she calls to the others as she moves to the rope and begins climbing up.

I knew I was getting an AoO for my trouble. With three attacks, Emmett is trying to force it to move every time. If he can't get passed what looks like a door, then he'll 5-foot and attack instead of moving only to the other side of the troll.

Simeon watches with satisfaction as Emmett surges up the rope and manages to avoid being stomped by the troll.

He nods as Elidal makes her move to join the older warrior, pulling a wand from his pouch.

Intoning the appropriate arcane triggers he causes a sickly pale yellow blob of energy to emerge , fly through the air and settle upon the troll.

Slow, Will save negates DC ?? - no idea what the casting level is.

It seems to shrug it off.

Emmett, with its reach? Its going to be able to hit you from just about anywhere on this parapet with a full attack. You may as well belt it with your axe.
