Spenser Quixote |
It's dark, isn't it? The possibility of alternate race features notwithstanding, you and I are the only ones without Darkvision - and unlike with mist and smoke and whatnot, I don't think proximity helps any.
phosdlon |
My apologies. I forgot about the darkness. I figured one of the others would be smart enough to dispel it before we all die.
Turzyk Sunwarden |
Once alerted to the danger Turzyk will take a 5 ft step back and cast Bull strength upon himself...
"Friends! To Arms!" he yells out to his companions.
GM Chyro |
Phosdlon releases his blade from the sheathe, as Spenser makes an usual but seemingly effective rallying speech.
As Turzyk casts his bull strength, blue responds with energies of its own.
Dispel magic counter, DC 17: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Turzyk finds, to his dismay, his spellcasting nulled.
The demon seems to hiss in a mocking way.

Feli2 |
Felicitas quickly follows with a spell of her own.
Blistering invective
Intimidate: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 241d8 ⇒ 6
DC 16 Refl or catch fire and get 6 damage. Every enemy in 30 feet is intimidated.
GM Chyro |
I recall that spell being language dependant? Babaus don't speak common.
GM Chyro |
GM slipped? It could be said that nobody even bothered to try and ID them. ;)
Babaus,
Babaus are demons formed from the souls of murderers, assassins, and homocidal psychopaths. They continue their sadistic spree even after transition.
Demon & outsider traits.
You can ask something extra for every +5 of beating the DC.
Feli2 |
KnowPlanes: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Well dogs do not speak human and they intimidate the hell out of my wive! ;-) And at least one should speak common. But nevertheless, I had no idea so the spell is wasted.
Vassago Ilsidore |
Vassago tries to slip out from the terrible pincer position he is in, before using his mental clarity to quickly generate another massive water ball to strike the red demon and hopefully knock him from the bar table!
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Using mental prowess to reduce the burn cost of a blast by 1, mostly to cover the Empower burn cost
Empowered Pushing blast @ Red: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 32
Damage on hit: 4d6 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 6) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 29 +50%
Free bull rush on success: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 18
If successful, then the demon is knocked back 5'... hoping that may cause it to fall to the ground if knocked off the bar or something from one table to another... hoping! :P
GM Chyro |
And that's why kineticists are awesome power blasters, when even a solid DR 10 is barely an obstacle.
Vassago escapes the pincer position, yet as he makes his way north, he finds himself still on dangerous ground.
Aoo on west square of green, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 1 = 17 Dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Aoo on northwest square of green, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 12 + 1 = 22 Dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The two attack aimed at him are avoided, one narrowly so.
Once in relatively safe distance, Vassago gathers the moisture present within the air itself, and flings the combined water towards red in a giant fist sized projectile. It crashes into the demon, and it lets out a mix between a groan and very angry hiss.
--------------
Arastrax chuckles.
"Seems playtime's starting to heat up. Good, the more you resist, the tastier your souls will be."
He starts making some gestures with his hand, as he whispers demon speech.
Spellcraft Feli, DC 18: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Spellcraft Turzyk, DC 18: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
He's casting something, but Feli and Turzyk can't make out what it is.
When his whispers are finished, the light briefly returns, and you notice Arastrax holding his hand to cover up the crest. With a malicious smile he points to the general direction of Phosdlon, Turzyk & Vassago.
Will Phosdlon, DC 18: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Will Turzyk, DC 18: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Will Vassago, DC 18: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Ref Phosdlon, DC 18: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Reflex Turzyk, DC 18: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Reflex Vassago, DC 18: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
The three men see a shadowy black hole open up beneath them. Phosdlon gets the impression it may hurt less so than other extradimensional pits he's heard about, but standing around would be uncomfortable nonetheless.
To Turzyk and Vassago, the pit is all too real, 50ft of blackness with spiked protrusions along the inner sides. Phosdlon stumbles away from the hole, knocking over a chair. Turzyk jumps quickly forward towards the table, yet Vassago is a bit too slow to respond, and falls 50ft into the pit of the shadow realm.
Since Turzyk believes the shadow pit to be the legit thing, he is still at risk of falling in if he ends his turn on a square adjacent to it. He gets a +2 bonus on this save if tht is the case.
Falling dmg: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 1, 2) = 13
The fall leaves Vassago disabled and prone...
DC 20 Climb checks to climb up.
Arastrax releases the cover of his hand, and the area goes dark again.
Green steps 5ft north on the table, lashing out at Sir Quixote.
Claw: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 Dmg, SA: 1d6 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 5 + (4, 1) = 15
Claw: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 Dmg, SA: 1d6 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 5 + (6, 1) = 18
Bite: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 Dmg, SA: 1d6 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (3, 6) = 16
The demon seeks blood, like it did in its mortal incarnation, and seemingly draws plenty, as both claws and bite connect with Spenser.
Red, having been injured pretty badly by Vassago's blasts, flees combat by stepping through a conjured portal, back to the abyss.

Phosdlon moves 5' towards where Arastrax was last seen.
Spenser Quixote |
"BLEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!! Mein own aqua-vitae doth cascade upon me as a flock of parrots do gaily gad about upon boreal fjords...but I SHALL NOT BE TROUNCED!"
Spenser reels back, fumbles about for a healing potion, and quaffs it.
potion of cure moderate wounds, Fey Foundling: 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (3, 3) + 7 = 13
GM Chyro |
Phosdlon receives a blessing upon his weapon from Yuelral, it now glowing with a shine....if only it weren't so dark.
Hint: 2 Aasimars in the party..
Spenser stumbles 5ft backwards, bumping into a chair. With a sore ass, he takes out a potion, an quickly drinks its content.

Blue sees an opportunity, and moving past the table, it gets atop the 2nd, getting into a flank with green.

5ft stepping onto a solid object wouldn't work. That's a solid wooden table, filled with tasty consumables.

GM Chyro |
Aasimar one does not have the light SLA. Maybe the other one.
#2 does indeed have it on his profile.
The babau takes advantage of Turzyk wrestling to free his weapon from the peace-bond enchantment.

@GM: Sorry, just finished a big con weekend! Is it too late to use my VO shirt reroll with GM stars to avoid the pit stuff?
Will reroll if allowed: 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 5 = 28
Regardless if that can be used or not, Vassago will heal himself, using his own soothing water to bind his wounds.
Using Mental Clarity to reduce the burn by 1, usable once per day, but it is the only way I can use Kinetic Healer on myself due to my archetype
Kinetic Healer @ self: 4d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 2) + 7 = 19
Subtract 1 if the reroll was not allowed, to handle the strain from using a standard action while disabled
phosdlon |
curious: Mental Clarity? I have a 5L cold-based Kineticist and I never heard of that. Where can I find that ability/feat/?
GM Chyro |
I can't find mental clarity?
You'll take less dmg, but still taking a plunge 50ft.
Vassago's mind, while falling, somehow pokes his instincts that this is a weird version of something else, and perhaps hurt less?
It does, now only dealing 2 dmg.
If Vassago can point me to mental clarity, then self healing occurs .
-----------------
For another brief moment, the light is restored, with Arastrax holding hi hand over the emblem.
"Huh..imagine that, some brat actually blinds me. But guess what? I'm Ara-fcking-STRAX!"
He drops his hand an casts something.
Spellcraft Feli: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Spellcraft Turzyk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Neither of them seem to figure out what the whole hissing speak and mumbo jumbo finger gestures mean.
"Alright ladies! Let's play ball!"
A sphere of dark fire appears before the stage, and as Arastrax the boastful points his finger ahead of his blinded eyes, it starts rolling towards Phosdlon, who feels a great heat coming at him.
Reflex Phosdlon, blinded circumstances, DC 19: 1d20 + 8 - 3 ⇒ (13) + 8 - 3 = 18
The sphere of fire stops in its track, dealing 6d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 3, 4, 1) = 18 fire dmg, and setting his clothes on fire.
Catch fire: every round you take 1d6 fire dmg, and can make a DC 19 reflex save to put it out. Rolling on the floor gives a +4 circumstance on said check.
Green seems to have savored Turzyk's blood, and is eager to continue drawing more.
Claw, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 1 = 25 Dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Claw, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 12 + 1 = 23 Dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Bite, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 12 + 1 = 20 Dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
The demon swings its claws at the aasimar, causing more wounds. Turzyk feels his arm and chest burn with pain from the injury, yet he ducks aside when a jagged teethed maw comes his way.

Vassago Ilsidore |
Sorry, it is called Mental Prowess. It is usable once per day at my level. Linky
GM Chyro |
Phosdlon rolls around like mad, extinguishing his burning clothes.
He took 1d6 ⇒ 1 fire dmg at the start, though.
Through warpriest-ly means, healing energies flow into his body, closing some of the wounds inflicted upon him.
As he takes out the Ioun Torch, he expects an incoming attack....but it is not coming, as blue is blinded by the glitterdust, therefor unable to make aoo's. Activating the Torch was to bring light back....but it is to no avail.
Ioun Torch's continual flame is a lvl 2 light spell, whereas Deeper Darkness is lvl 3.
Spenser: "I feeleth a bit less wee. Could someone's personae please direct me towards our adversaries?"
Spenser takes total defense, and carefully steps 5ft towards the stage, having last seen Arastrax there.

With Phosdlon having concealment due to blue's blinded condition, it can not make SA on the dmg dice. Feli's a clever girl.
Despite being blind as a bat, the babau manages to rip its claws along Phosdlon's back.
Willsave vs glitterdust: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
At the end of its turn, blue's blindness is gone...but to the two aasimar, it is still covered in sparkly powder.

@GM: I should have been able to stand up; since you decided that I was still in the pit after passing the will save, but took less damage, I wouldn't have been disabled so I could have stood up and then healed myself. Since I'm still in the pit, plan B...
UMD check: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31
Dispel magic check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Vassago pulls out a scroll from his pack, reading it carefully. Luckily, he has learned how to properly manipulate arcane objects and he tries to remove the false pit.
GM Chyro |
I was wondering why you didn't. Perhaps the shadowy ground was very soft?
Feli wrestles loose her weapon, while down in the shadowy pit, Vassago recalls having a special scroll for any unexpected surprises.
Reading carefully, he speaks the words right, and looks up to where he started falling down. The shadow flickers, and as it dissipates, Vassago feels the ground go back up, like riding an elevator.
Once up again, he can see the situation is dire, with two comrades effectively blind, and Turzyk looking badly wounded.
----------------------
Arastrax flips the light switch on again, noticing Vassago's back, and the shadow pit gone.
"Hey slick, i dropped you down the hole just moments before. Why'd you go break my balls?"
This demon's got the biggest ego.
Peering with narrowed eyes.... "Oh! I know a fun one."
Arastrax starts casting a new spell.
Spellcraft Feli, DC 18: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Spellcraft Turzyk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 Pass.

Will Vassago: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Blinded.
Will green: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Blinded.
Like Feli did to Arastrax, Arastrax casts a glittery cloud, which she resists. After all, why would a lady fall for her own tricks?
Turzyk watches with a stoic look, his mind already aware this is not the full real deal.
Vassago and Green are both caught by surprise, and are blinded for 10 rounds.
With the regular glitter dust routine.
1 Phosdlon, 2 Spenser, 3 Vassago: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Ref Vassago, blinded: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 10 - 4 = 22
Despite being blinded, Vassago feels warmth approach him, and he steps aside in time for the sphere of dark fire to not hit him.
Things turn dark again, when Arastrax lowers his hand.
Green is not very pleased, being blinded all of a sudden. Despite it, it tries attacking Turzyk, and Vassago, should the 1st be knocked out.

Blue demon ALSO faces my Challenge of the Tome! I believe that doesn't conflict with my Challenge to Arastrax....
Spenser steps back and undoes the peacebond to his towering lance.
If anyone could spare a moment to heal me, I'd really appreciate that.
GM Chyro |
While i haven't seen multiple challenges before, i don't see conflicting details as is. Except the enemy to challenge must be within sight, darkness makes that rather difficult.
Looking at the battlemap, Spenser has 5ft stepped through the table?
I've moved you at 1/2 speed to the nearest unobstructed square up there instead. If you moved elsewhere, feel free.
In the brief moment of vision, Phosdlon and Spenser see the enemies' positions.
While in darkness, Spenser makes a general pointing at the babau with one finger, while detaching his lance with his other.
Phosdlon, still laying on the floor, swings his weapon a the leg of the babau, it seems to knock against the edge of the table, instead, his heartbeat accelerating...

It's obvious to her, he shares the weakness of blindness in the dark, as he's not seeming to notice her approach at all.
Vassago puts his arms tightly crossed before his chest, and puts his right leg back in a defensive stance.
Kind of like an action movie defense thing.
At the end of his actions, his eyesight returns, and he sees the blue babau stepping up towards him.

I had retconned that on battlemap back when i made the post, and apparently not in text.
Also, Vassago, you still had a pending reflex DC 19 save vs the flaming sphere earlier on.

Botting.
Turzyk taps his weapon.
"By the gods, let brightness overcome the darkness we find ourselves in."
Magic auras start wrestling in the air, after he casts his innate daylight spell, causing normal lighting to once again be present. He then steps 5ft south.

Demons at the wedding, round 6
Feli wrestles to escape, and she almost manages to escape the spell's hold. CMD 24.
Vassago blasts green for 26 points of dmg, the demon's thick skin preventing some of the injury.
--------------
Arastrax snickers as his 'date' struggles against her spell's bonds.
Maintain grapple check: 1d20 + 14 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 14 + 5 = 34
"Missy, as soon as the boys stop interfering, you and me are going to have a blast.", and he points his finger to roll the flaming sphere back towards Vassago.
Vassago, another DC 19 save please.
Green (-26) attacks where it last knew Turzyk to be.
Claw, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 12 + 1 = 23
Claw, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 1 = 15
Bite, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 12 + 1 = 28
Pretty sure it would've hit him, were he actually there, the demon concludes he must've moved where it doesn't know he is at.
Will to end blindness: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Fail.

"A-HA! La lux du jour Siegreich! EN GARDE, VARLETS!"
NOW my third Challenge against Green.
REPEAT: Vassago, if you could heal me, the 'Burn' would be a small price to pay indeed.
[dice=blessed +1 Lance, Challenge, Power Attack, vs green]1d20+10[/dice]
blessed damage: 1d8 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27
[dice=blessed +1 Lance, Challenge, Power Attack, vs green]1d20+5[/dice]
blessed damage: 1d8 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 20 = 22
Let me know if I'm missing any unmentioned/forgotten modifiers, weal or woe.

A reflex DC 19 for the 1st attack, if you please.
Spenser strikes a battle pose, pointing his spear towards the green demon.
Followed by a quick thrust into the blinded creature's flank. With the blessing upon the spear, it deals its full potential, the demon lets out a sound that's a mix between a shriek and a sharp hissing.
Blue can't help but notice the 'stached man's fine dmg dealing capability with sight.
Its fellow demon blinded, it lacks the tactical advantage it loved in its pas mortal life.
It hisses some half-swallowed words, trying to dispel Turzyk's magic.
CL check to dispel, DC 18: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
The creature succeeds, and the area is once more shrouded in darkness.
