And, also, don't worry guys. Iolth's backstory and relative power level will still be on par with the rest of the wacky Avalon students.
Also, a quick question... When was the last snipe hunt?
*Grins mischievously*
I hope there will be one at some point... Especially at the Agartha equivalent of Halloween... Yup, Iolth will be pulling some pretty wacky stuff, considering he is an illusion caster and warlock powers are scary.
*Imagines a massive area of Nightmares Made Real, interspersed with the dead rising, eldritch tentacles coming out of the sky, and horrible monstrosities with tentacles coming out everywhere, with some daemons running rampant and hunting students going mad with fear.*
Don't worry. Only some of it is real.

Adon can participate.
It happens in the biggest Sim room, remember?
I think Tybs wouldn't. Probably wouldn't before, but most likely not after Mercy.
Archena would be too weak and would spend most of the time indiscriminately sicking velociraptors on people.
Lewis is uninterested in fighting, unless Tarka drags him into it.
Shiro is busy.
Sara is like 7. And a pacifist.
Lim-Môr would debate between going and helping in the infirmary, eventually ending up in the infirmary himself.
Strider is overseeing.
Now, Kevin... he would be fun in this....

Dave would go, he would also try to drag Tybalt into it, but would relent if tybs said no
Arthur is in unless melody convinces him otherwise, could be a good place/time for the next step in his advancement
Grim is going, unless none of the other elementary kids are, in which case he'll just pout
Lucas is in, he figures it's a good place/time to showcase his powers, he's going to try to fight igni, but not be too ovbious about it
Chao is in and will try to target lang, and any other bender he knows to be in it
Thinking of putting a trio of NPCs in there, they were submissions in other games

Alright, question: I had an idea while walking my dog. And that is: the dark cardcaster. After being kidnapped for a daemonic ritual, young Iolth, the master Harrower of his caravan, only gets some of the power. His cards get the rest. As he had many roles in the caravan: freakshow (he had daemonic blood in him), Black Knight (in the caravan's signature play), and Harrower, this made a potent receptacle for Daemonic power. Now, because of his heroic actions of using the very dark powers given to him to stymie the cult from bypassing the Wards and getting their Daemon prince in, as well as resistingthe offer of more power in service of Szuriel, Iolth was gifted with a heavenly sword, containing the soul of a empyreal lady. Now, just a few months after this incident, he gets word of the Avalon Academy, which can hopefully teach him to better harness his newfound power.
Sound good?

Cardcaster Ryo |

I was watching this at the time.
Less capturing roving magic spells and more using the magic through them. I've got nothing against Harrowers being CC's or vice versa.

Vickory West |

The Tarot is the base of her religious text (each card is lesson) and considering she was personally taught by her god and even witnesses that god's ascension, and that god happens to be the closest thing she has to a parent, that makes it an integral part of her personality and belief system, even if it doesn't have combat mechanics.
It just hasn't come up in conversation yet.
The Harrow (what I know of it anyway) has nowhere near the life lessons, interconnected patterns, and relatable aspects, that the Tarot has. You can make a full blown religion out of the Tarot even in reality (that is why I kinda used it for Vickory and many of my characters) but the Harrow feels hollow, like it tried too hard to connect to recognisable aspects of the game system.
Of course the new book maybe added stuff, but considering it is based on the six stats, I doubt it.

Hmm I really think the sword idea works better espically if it has or will later gain the ability to transform
*chuckles*
Sword? Deck of Cards, what's the difference if the key desire here is that the player wants some 'sexy times' with his angelic partner as part of his theme?
I mean-- if you're really into long, metallic, sharp things, sure. I could see the allure.
But, in the end, given the 'transformation' and what appears to be an inanimate (yet possessed) object, it's kind of a moot point what the housing is.
Unless you're imaging some 'pole dancing' here with that blade... which seems painful. Go quarterstaff in that case, no?
;)

Damiani |

I was thinking that Iolth has an angelic, intelligent deck, and a fiendish, unintelligent deck.
He has two holsters for them.
Things go boom when he takes them out of the holsters.
What's the story you want here, you keep describing 'effects' more than story arc for your character. :)
Like, what are you looking to develop, if I may ask? or demonstrate in your game playing/story telling?
Often times people get more caught up in their 'neat' visuals, stats and/or effects, versus the personality and story of the person, when making their character concepts.

Damiani |

Dami, remember Lyn said to not do story so much past back story because that is supposed to be determined during play.
:)
Well...
I'm not asking for an elaborate history, or planned out future, just looking to encourage thinking beyond the 'I whip s$@% out of my holster, having Heaven and Hell at my hips'.
Make sense?
Okay-- get it, you want demons and angels. Put those to the side now, who's the PC?
What's their motivations, goals, loves, hates? Simply here to 'learn how to use their powers' more? Okay.
The more detail you have to the core personality, imho, the richer your reactions will be to the environment, if/when you interact with it.
Just /being/ doesn't reveal who you are, in game, it's how you interact that will.
Of course, I could be wrong. It'd be years of being wrong, but there's that possibility.

Answers to your questions, Monsieur Damiani:
I generally include a "Personality and Motivations" section in my backstory, so here we go:
Iolth is an easygoing guy, generally. He makes quick jokes-not on the epic scale and with the devotion of Jiminy, though-and he's generally likable. Iolth is new to this whole "go and fight other people. rawr," deal, and he often adds more flair to things he does during combat, as well as making witty quips-much like the acting combat in his caravan. It's definitely gonna take a while for Iolth to break that habit and get serious. Iolth, even though he tries to hide it with witty quips, is flat-out scared of what he can do if he isn't careful. And, the more scared he is, the easier it is for him to nova and ravage huge swathes of countryside.
Iolth is at the Academy because he has, well, control issues. Iolth already has enough raw power at his fingertips to rival the power cores of Imperial supercannons, though when he unleashes, things get messy. For example, just a few days after he got his power, Iolth was ambushed by some hobgoblins near a village. What resulted was a post-cthlulu looking area with craters everywhere, eldritch darkness covering the sky and abberational tentacles coming out of portals. It was pretty bad, to sum it up. So, the problem isn't building up power, or tapping into it, it's making sure that the power doesn't turn into a superpower meltdown.
Now, looking at this, I realize something: that I should get Iolth up to the pinnacle of student power. However, he's going to be growing in other ways, as well-namely, maybe after unleashing a few invocations and blasts, he won't completely decimate the countryside!

Liking the new backstory there. That's the kind of thing I'm looking for. Fleshed out, but not written like a book, good motivation for being there, and room for others to affect his future path. :)
I have one concern with this switch to the cards thing. I already have one player bringing in a Gambit style Harrower character. Doesn't mean you can't also bring in a card-themed character. I have no problem with people playing similar concepts. But I am a little concerned about there being too much overlap.
MG, would you mind giving us a sneak peek of your Harrower character so that I can make sure you guys don't have too much overlap? There's plenty of room here for both characters in my opinion, but it's hard to make sure of that when I have so few details on yours.

lynora |

Lyn I will be putting together a begining post for Kim tonight. do you think I should have it proof read before posting to be sure I am not affecting someone else's story?
PM it to me if you're concerned. Better safe than sorry. Although based on previous discussions I think you're pretty safe.

Monkeygod |

Akydi will be a Harrow Bloodline Sorc/Solar Mystery Oracle, both from the Harrow Handbook. He will not be using the Deadly Dealer Gambit type feat, but will likely use a quarterstaff, as its a solid weapon.
My brother plans on playing a more Gambit style character. He plans on being a Cardcaster(from Harrow Handbook as well) Magus archetype(which I know is already an existent class, lol) which grants the Deadly Dealer feat, and allows ranged spells instead of touch spells for Spellstrike, among some other stuff.
He isn't sure yet what he is other class will be, he might go Sorc as well, but he isn't sure.

lynora |

Okay, so no conflict that I can see between the concepts being pitched for Akydi and Iolth. And some but not I think too much with the Gambit style character that I had confused with Akydi. :)
Okay, Iolth, your concept is a go. I'll have to see your finished profile before you get an official approval and we can talk about how you want to be introduced into the game. But it's all down to details now.

Monkeygod |

You didn't confuse Zach's character with Akydi, as that was what I was going to do with him originally. But then I got the Harrow Handbook, and found better stuff to fit the character. Which is the entire reason I waited to debut him.
Just so happens Zach wants to play my PC's brother and be Gambit esque.
Btw, he's now thinking Magus/Paladin, possibly.

Hi, one of my friends told me about avalon after he started playing, I was wondering if you have room for one more?
There's always room for more. We have no cap on the number of players here. :)
I would suggest starting with the new player primer in campaign info. And once you have some idea what you want to play, run it by me. I'm the one who has to approve your character before you can join the game.
