"Amethysts are barely purple at all when they hatch. We become darker and darker purple as we age. So I am much more purple than my granddaughter. There does seem to be an upper limit to it though. My grandfather was no darker purple than I am now when he died and he was much older."
Midori finally burst into giggles at Grim's attempt to say he knew all along. Her laugh carries some of the melody in her voice, the almost sing-song quality, and it's infectious. She was finally starting to relax, not watching her own shadow for enemies anymore.
