Orderic’s Actions This Fight:
Surprise Round: Did nothing.
Round 1: Move some (assumed half speed since you were stealth and didn’t say otherwise)
Round 2: Reached the door and got ready.
Round 3. Hid and made an AoO sneak attack on the Worg. (technically you could have done something else here I suppose but I assumed you were staying hidden)
Round 4. Killed a helpless wolf.
Now Round 5.

That brings us to speed. If you say you killed the wolf on round 3 instead, fine. What are you doing in round 4?

Round and Initiative tags are asked for for just this reason, my friends. Also, please give spoilers if things don’t go the way you plan.

Thanks

>So Chern and Orderic then to finish round 4

Dakkar's Ambush Round 5 Update

Dakkar struggled to regain his footing, wary of the worg's lethal bite. Somehow he managed to find his feet as his companions stabbed and smashed at the worg from all sides.

The worg, whirled, desperate now, hemmed in by its enemies and bleeding from a half dozen minor wounds. It snarled and bit, ripping into Chern with fury, savaging the mountain man.

A bolt of magic streaked across the courtyard, taking the great wolf in the eye and exploding out of the back of the worg's skull. Bone, brain, and blood bathed the stunned warriors around the beast and a wailing reptilian hiss rose in the air from the direction of the monasteries rooftop as Greypelt collapsed.

A strangely carved stick spun from above to protrude from the courtyards mud like a hurled dagger, wisps of magic still sizzling from the visible end as quick footfalls sounded a retreat.

The lesser wolf, terrified at the sight of its masters fall, raced for the gap in the entrance, only to fall in an instant when it dropped its guard and Dakkar's club crushed its shoulder, Chern's shortsword found its heart and Orderics rapier severed its spine.

His expert hands finished binding Chern's wounds, and Dakkar stood up and started heading towards balder; motioning for Orderic to walk with him

As the group settled in to camp, Orderic slid his jester over his face and turned to face the double doors. Walking over, he bent to examine the door frame and then slipped inside, vanishing from sight in the darkness beyond.

Orderic’s Entry Hall Explorations:

Orderic slipped into the entry hall, glancing at the closed doors to his left and right.

Guard rooms.

He listened carefully to one and then the other, hearing nothing. He cursed the darkness as he checked the door closures for traps.

Going by feel is going to get me killed .

The door way swung open to reveal a small cloakroom, only a few moldering rags still clinging to pegs along the wall.

Checking the other doorway, he found the door stuck.

Stuck means not opened for a long time. Means no traffic.

He shouldered the door open after several shoves, revealing an old chair had been propped against the doors interior. A dwarven skeleton in the thick leather apron of a blacksmith sat against the wall of the rooms far side, an empty glass vial still held in one bony hand and a silver hammer tucked into his belt. Some sort of dwarven runes marked the hammers side.

Sod poisoned himself.

He slipped the hammer into his pack and moved back out into the hall.

More to come shortly......Chopping it up in chunks of a few rooms each.

Orderic’s Explorations Part 2:

Orderic squinted in the semi-darkness of the entry hall. Moonlight reached him from the double doors behind him but only barely, shining on another set of double doors yawning open just ahead. A passage branched left and right before the doors, leading off into darkness. He might have been imagining things, but the passage leading right seems a degree lighter at its end.

He moved to the open double doors and listened, hearing nothing. The mud caking the floor bore the paw prints of wolves, none entering the chamber beyond the double doors. He could hear some sort of weird rustling, like the slithering of large snakes, but on the ceiling somehow, lost in darkness.

The crows didn’t land on the tower. Big Spider in the tower. Wolves don’t go in here. Wolf eater in here.

He walked slowly along the right hand passageway and reached a corner, moonlight played over a battered dwarven statue at the end of the halls other end, splashing in through an open doorway leading out to the courtyard.

That’s where the knifethrower was. Got it.

The doorways along the wall here lacked doors and he glanced into the first one, a study of some sort with a huge stone desk. Holes in the ceiling let in just enough light to make out the rooms details. Gnawed bones covered the floor. The air was thick with the smell of wet fur.

Wolf lair

A quick search of the desk turned up a few pages of dirty parchment and an old quill. Orderic’s practiced hands soon located a secret drawer, pulling out a well-made handaxe, a pouch of gleaming platinum coins, and a prayer book written in dwarven script.

Orderic’s Explorations Part 3:

Orderic moved down the hall to the next door. The smell of wet wolf was stronger here, blended with an earthy smell he couldn’t immediately place.

One of the columns supporting the ceiling had fallen, smashing a small hole in the far wall, an opening into darkness. A patch of black mushrooms grew from the rusted armor of a dozen dwarven skeletons piled in the room’s far corner.

Ironblooms, I’d wager.

Orderic wrapped the mushrooms carefully in his pack and clambered up the slanting column to the hole. The cubby was packed with items, and Orderic slipped a large bulging purse into his pack along with a potion bottle and a wand.

Packed to the brim, his pack had no room for the dwarven –made light crossbow and he held it in one hand as he slipped from the room and emerged from the open doorway back into the monastery courtyard and to the group

"And before you accuse me, no i did not take anything from the purse, I have not even opened it yet. As well I have these mushrooms, are these what you were looking for?
placing the mushrooms also on the ground.

"Does anyone have any extra wanter? I would like to wash my hands after touching those. They were growing on the corpses of some dwarves. Also found another one that look like he killed himself. Those shrooms may not be safe."

Orderic reaches into his tunic and pulls out a silver coin, and tosses it at feet of Balder "There."

looking around at the the rest of the group.

"Anyone else have something they would like to get off their chest? Or can we pack up and head back to town and out of this cursed place.

To Oderic:
"If its water you want, lets take a walk to that old well. I think its daft to stay inside these walls overnight anyway, might as well check it out, then move our camp a goodly distance away from a lair of walking dead men!"

Chern then slid a sword blade into the opening of the purse, and gingerly coaxed it open to look inside.

To Dakkar, gesturing to mushrooms:
"Well, what about it then? Is this what we lookin' for?"

To Oderic, gesturing to crossbow:
"No skin off my back..."

To Balder:
"Doubt it was much, 'sides, in addition to brinin' all this loot back to us, I'm sure he knows what we'll do to 'im if he tries to double-cross me an' Dakkar here."

Chern then narrowed his eyes.
"'Course that last bit applies to ALL a ya..."

Are you bothering to try and take the broken gear?

Chern and his mule are not.

Dakkar looked at the mushrooms and smiled.

"That's good work, Orderic. Just great. There's one more thing that got be done before we get out of here though"

Tucking away the mushrooms safely, Dakkar took out his knife and set to work skinning each of the wolves, and finally the worg. Smiling at his new companions he said

"Now we can go"

Yeah, I think we should take the broken gear. It is dwarven make and that counts for something. Besides: We have a mule.

Chern says no. So....that's that. No broken gear. Added 4 wolf pelts and a worg pelt to Loot

DM: After splitting the coinage and selling the garnet, wolf and worg pelts, the undead dwarfs weapons, the dwarven prayer book, the silver hammer, and the salts of familiar binding and sympathetic statuettes each characters share is 17pp, 144gp, 8 sp, and 42cp. The Loot list under Campaign Info shows what remains, both claimed and unclaimed.

Emrys is happy for the rest, and indifferent to the tension between other characters. Besides moving to the edge of the party and sitting facing away from the animals as they were skinned he is u phased by everything else.

Enjoying any opportunity to examine magic items, he is always keen to detect magic and attempt to identify objects, but he is also very keen to dig deeper, and at the moment he is intrigued by he Magic of the axe.

Darkmoon Wood
Day 7, Late Afternoon

Fully healed from their ordeal at Droskar's Crucible, the group begins their trek back to Falcon's Hollow. Out of trail rations, Emrys' new pack was found to contain another week's worth, enough to see the heroes home with two days for a single person to spare.

Chern leads his mule, its saddle heaped with the bundles and bags containing your spoils from the dwarven ruin and the three special ingredients for Laurel's cure for the illness menacing the village, while Balder idly plucked his lute, already composing the ballad of your triumph over the foul worg, Greypelt.

The day promises rain, the sky overhead a churning mass of unrelenting grey cloud. Too dreary a day for the glad tidings you bring. The first fat drops fall, pattering to the forest floor, then a sheeting mist that soaks the skin without quenching your thirst.

Balder Crimsonsong’s Perception:: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Chern’s Perception:: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Dakkar Mudwater’s Perception:: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Emrys’ Perception:: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Orderic Vitalis’ Perception:: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

The men were suddenly there, materializing out of the mist. Three stood in the center, burly and imposing. The man in the middle rested a pair of hand axes on his broad shoulders and sneared, his armor a mismatch of chain links and boiled leather.

"Well, looky, looky boys. Just what do we have here, I wonder?" The axeman spat on the ground. "We gots us some honest to goodness hee-roes. Savin' the day or some shee-it."

Another pair of men, one to the left and one to the right of the first three shifted into view, well back in the treeline, arrows nocked and drawn, one aimed at Chern, the other at Dakkar.

"Now, don't get me wrong. I'm all for savin' the day. You can keep yer cure. Ain't nothin' ta us. We just want yer money." He spat again. "I guess this is where I say yer money or yer lives. An 'fore anyone gets all heroic an does somethin' stupid, ye should know them boys back yonder can take the tail off'n a runnin' squirrel at a hunnerd paces with them bows. Money. Lives. Simple, ain't it?"

The three nearest bandits are 30 feet away and adjacent to each other in a line across your path. The archers are 60 feet away.

You can't take off a squirrel's tail. Squirrels need their tails for balance.
Emrys scowled at the ruffians.

The heavy sack of coins thudded a few feet from the bandits. Dakkar leaned against the mule and calmly lit his pipe, seemingly unconcerned with the potential danger of the situation.

"You boys is lucky we got places to be" he said puffing up a cloud of smoke "so you take that blood money. You take it and you get out of the forest. You run as far and as fast as you can. You run cause you took money from a Mudwater, and there ain't a single place in the natural world that you can hide.
Dakkar calmly locked gazes with each of the men and after a moment began to speak again.

"So you take that money and go, cause if you step one itty bitty toe into my woods again you gon' be left out for the wolves and bears to have their way with. When those wolves and bears eat their fill it'll be time for the rats and the vultures to pick at yer bones. When they done it'll be the bugs and the worms. Then when all manner of animal has filled themselves on the flesh of your body, it'll be the plants that leech the nutrients from your bleached bones. And then I might let you die. So go ahead. Take the money".

And Dakkar watched them all with an unflinching gaze, meaning every word.

Balder laughed Come now my friend, surely we cannot allow for a group of lowlifes such as they to continue their plundering of decent folk? If they are stupid enough to attack a group of armed men, perhaps we should end them now?

He gestures to the Worg pelt slung across the mules back.

We bested this giant Worg but last night! surely these miscreants will be not but a fleck of leftover meat annoyingly stuck in ones teeth.

He looks back to the leader.

Unless these fools really want to die by the hands of the heroes of falcons hollow? The treasure trove was a little light back there. I wonder what these fools will have that we can pick off their corpses.

It's times like now that you kinda wish you had a higher wisdom score and a lack of autism so you'd spark up a few impressive cantrips to scare the yokel thugs....

instead....
They hurt squirrels, and squirrels are like weasels. I like weasels. We should take their tails off. Only people don't have tails. What can we take off people? Oh I know....but mother would say that was rude.

Male Rogue 1 | 8/11 hp | AC 14, T12, F12 | Saves F2, R4, W0| Init 2 | CMD 12 | Per 4

Orderic looks to the bard,
"So you outright want to say, that you wish to murder these men? Just for the reason that you consider them being a 'lowlife' as you called them?. I just want to be clear on what your intentions are?"

turning back to the group of bandits.
"You all have to excuse the ginger. I think he has been out in the sun to long today and the rays are affecting his brain. I think the offer from my Half-Orc friend here is very reasonable. He is not the sort of fellow that one wishes to get on he bad side. However, the best option is just to walk away. Forget the sack of coins at your feet. Forget you seen us, we will forget we seen you and everyone will get to go on their lives in blissful unawareness that this moment ever took place.
I am not one to begrudge a fellow for trying to scrap by day to day earning enough coin to feed themselves. You have to use the skills that you have. NOW is not that time.

Orderic leans back against a tree and crosses his arms, looks around at both parties

"So what you say? Do we all come down with a big case of group amnesia?"

Male Human Skald 1 | 14/14 hp | AC 17, T11, F11 | Saves F+4, R+1, W+2 Ini-+1 percp-+4

Balder turned to Orderic anyone who prays on road travelers is a lowlife and will be dealt with accordingly.

The muscles in arms bulged and he crossed them on his chest.

Watch your tongue when you speak about me tumbler or you'll find yourself on your back with your wits knocked out of you. Ill not tolerate your lack of respect any further.
