Pertreeko |
"Get out of there! We need to lock it in the room!" Pertreeko shouts, leaping into the room to save Grayface. Trying to stay as far away from the gibbering mouths himself as possible, Pertreeko grabs a firm hold of Grayface and pulls! I know Aid in Pathfinder is usually only used for +to hit or +AC, but can I roll to Aid Grayface in breaking the grapple? If so...
Aid to escape grapple: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Grayface |
Yes Pertreeko, that does work.
Multiple Creatures: Multiple creatures can attempt to grapple one target. The creature that first initiates the grapple is the only one that makes a check, with a +2 bonus for each creature that assists in the grapple (using the Aid Another action). Multiple creatures can also assist another creature in breaking free from a grapple, with each creature that assists (using the Aid Another action) granting a +2 bonus on the grappled creature's combat maneuver check.
"Agreed. C'mon Rall, we're getting out of here."
Escape Grapple Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Adding Pertreeko's +2 for aid, that hopefully should be enough! If that is enough to break the grapple, I want to move out of the room.
Grayface |
Understood. I proceed regardless.
GM Zed |
As Grayface moves back from the creature, it starts to drone again...words and noises at make no sense whatsoever...it pauses briefly as it bites fruitlessly at Grayface.
Gibbering Mouther, Bite vs Grayface (Attack of Opportunity): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15, missing
Yasmin and Ea, you may take your turn now
Yasmin al Akbar |
"I don't know if the door will hold it off." Yasmin closes the door anyway, and falls back further into the hallway.
Ea Zalinsel |
did my fiery vial hit? If so, it should burn one more round for Fire: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Whatever this is, it looks hungry...
Ea tooks one pack of her daily ration, and throws it not too far to the beast, hoping to gain some time before retreating from the room.
Does anyone know what this it, and how to fight it?
GM Zed |
Ea – your flask of alchemical fire did hit last round so the Gibbering Mouther does take further damage
Deciding that discretion is the better part of valour, the adventurers beat a hasty retreat into the corridor with Yasmin slamming the door closed as the Mouther starts its ponderous pursuit. The cacophony on noise, belches and bizarre phrases starts again…and, even through the closed door, the voices beckon Rallos and Yasmin into madness once more.
Yasmin and Rallos must make a DC13 Will Save or be Confused for 1 round
Yasmin al Akbar |
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 7
"Agh, that sound!" Yasmin covers her ears, trying to keep herself oriented. She manages to hold it together this round, at least, resisting the urge to do something rash.
"Quickly, we should heal our wounds."
Yasmin al Akbar |
Oh, if anyone gets grappled by that creature again, Yasmin has Liberating Command as one of her known spells. Assuming she's able, please automatically have Yasmin uses the spell as an immediate action to give you a chance to escape with a +6 bonus. I'm mentioning this because I might not see the post in time to use the ability.
Ea Zalinsel |
Ea walks back from the door and prepares a second vial of fiery liquid.
Then she thinks her actions again, and gives it to Rallos
As I said when we fought the bone priest, your aim is better than mine.
She gives a short prayer to Pharasma, if the beast allows, to ensure the rogue's chances
use a Guidance spell
Rallos Therinor |
oops forgot to roll confusion check
confused: 1d100 ⇒ 89
dont hate me Ea....I gotta stab you now...you're closest
Rallos spins and lashes out at Ea, a deranged look on his face
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d6 ⇒ 1
GM Zed |
The babbling craziness subsides shortly after Rallos swings at Ea...you can still hear mutterings from the other side of the door but it is no longer wild and cacophonous. Everything goes quiet suddenly and then, with a loud bang, something slams against the closed door.
...but the door, which is of hardened oak, holds firm within it's frame.
Pertreeko |
Does the door open out into the hallway or inward into the room?
If the door opens out into the hallway, Pertreeko will cast about himself for something to brace the door with.
"I normally abhor imprisoning living things...but whatever that thing is should never see the light of day!" he mutters as he looks about himself.
Rallos Therinor |
Whew, I am glad imissed you, Ea. I don't want you smashing me in the face with your mace. That thing is a gibbering mouther. It drives you mad with its sounds....as readily apparent. We should leaveit be. I donot know if there is anything in that room, but we could revisit that......thing later if needed. At least now we know its capabilities.
Yasmin al Akbar |
Does it seem like the door is in imminent danger of giving way? I wasn't sure how much time is passing in the most recent scene.
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
"Thanks Pertreeko. Let's stick some of these crates and barrels in front of the door." Yasmin helps construct a good barricade, assuming the door opens out into the hallway.
GM Zed |
The door opens inwardly (into the hallway) yet, despite the thumping and slamming against it, doesn't seem to be in any danger of giving way...in fact, the crashing noises are getting less frequent and are a lot less energetic....it seems the Mouther is losing interest...
By the time various crates and barrels are pushed in front of it, the noises have subsided entirely...
Yasmin al Akbar |
"Okay, let's not go back in there. At least not until we're fully prepared. Better yet, maybe we can lure some silly bandits in there. Who would've thought there's a crazy monster in their midst?"
Yasmin lets out a long sigh of relief. "So, do we keep going, or is it time to find a place to hole up?"
Rallos Therinor |
I think we should press on a little further....I am still good to proceed for a while.
Rallos walks ahead, checking the door in the hall on the left.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 as usual add another +1 for traps
Grayface |
"By the gods..." Grayface stands upright after pushing a heavy barrel against the door. He shook his head, as if the gesture would rid him of the image of what they had just witnessed.
After a few moments of quiet, he is satisfied that the threat is contained--for the moment at least. He walked to Rallos' side.
Ea Zalinsel |
We should try to find more fiery vials, and burn this... gibbering mouther, as you call it, once and for all on our way back. Do you know anything more on this beast, Rallos? How can we beat it? What are its weaknesses?
She seems to hold no grudge agaisnt Rallos for attacking her.
Grayface |
GM Zed, I got a 14 on my knowledge dungeoneering check back there. Does that give me any more insight into this monster than what you already provided? (I hope the question isn't too presumptuous.)
GM Zed |
Grayface – you don’t recall anything further about Gibbering Mouthers however Rallos has a further moment of inspiration after watching how it tangled with the warrior…with no skeletal structure, they are essentially amorphous – this is why it was able to ‘flow’ through the bars of the prison cell and, why when attacking, they will always attempt to engulf their prey…
With the door leading to the Gibbering Mouther firmly barricaded, you manage to catch your breath… moving along the corridor, you arrive at the small side passage that leads to a simple wooden door. Rallos listens for a few moments and, once he has confirmed all is quiet beyond…he gently pushes the door open. Opening into a relatively small room, it is clear that this is someone’s personal quarters. A comfortable bed stands in the southwest corner whilst the shelves that line the walls are crowded with various keepsakes. A door to the south leads to a latrine.
Map update to follow
Pertreeko |
Pertreeko nods wordlessly in agreement to Ea's suggestion regarding burning the mouther.
When they reach the personal quarters, Pertreeko will glance at the keepsakes, looking for something to use as a souvenir for this adventure he's on.
Grayface |
"Nice room, for a dungeon. Must belong to someone of importance among these thieving vermin. Let's search the place, there's gotta be something of value in here."
Perception/search: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
After the search is completed, Grayface takes his usual place behind Rallos and his sneaky skills at the next door.
GM Zed |
The keepsakes on the shelves include a gold chess piece, an ivory comb and a statuette of a woman with a lyre.
There are also several leather bound journals...mostly they show sketched maps of Echo Wood, Fort Inevitable and a few other unrecognisable locales, lists of items / provisions and, perhaps more interestingly, lists of trade goods recorded against dates and prices...these lists are generally accompanied with notes as to whether it is a good price, whether it is / was a good deal and suggestions as to when new shipments may be 'coming in'. The initials 'TL' feature quite predominantly within these lists.
Grayface |
"T, L. Think that could mean Tarrin...Dars? As in, the bandit leader? Hmmm, probably not."
Grayface happily removes the valuables from the room and places them next to the other bundles of loot in the other chamber.
Rallos Therinor |
We should take the book anyway...there might be some pertinent information in it somewhere.
Rallos then heads to the next door down the hallway, again checking for any sign of traps/noise at the door.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
GM Zed |
Moving to the second of the doors to the west, Rallos notes that the corridor turns east at it's northerly end. Before it ends, some twenty feet eastwards, it leads on to a further four doorways heading in various directions.
Taking his time on the sturdy door, Rallos doesn't detect any traps nor does he hear anything beyond the door... although that may be down to the distraction of the large warrior standing closely behind him.
Yasmin al Akbar |
Yasmin also checks out the door. Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Otherwise, she waits for Rallos to do his thing.
Yasmin al Akbar |
Yasmin holds up two fingers, then points into the room, indicating that there are two people within.
Yasmin al Akbar |
Let's go ahead and open the door.
GM Zed |
Going ahead with Yasmin's suggestion
With the to'ing and fro'ing of listening at the door followed by a little indecision, the folks in the room beyond the door are, at least, a little suspicious of the noises outside by the time Rallos bursts the door open...No surprise round for party or enemy.
The double bunks and footlockers in the alcoves of this large room suggest it serves as a barracks. The walls are decorated with simple paintings and murals, which include sketches of building, temple, and ruin layouts along with notations suggesting how to get past obstacles and traps. There is a single exit from this room...leading to the northwest.
More importantly, the three outlaws in the room...having already drawn their swords...are getting to their feet...
Rallos, Disguise: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
Outlaws, Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Rallos' attempt to deceive the outlaws through disguise is undone by his tail...flicking aggressively beneath his robe.
Initiative for Party / Enemy
Rallos, Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Grayface, Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Pertreeko, Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Ea, Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Yasmin, Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Outlaws, Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Initiative for Party / Enemy
Yasmin then
Outlaws then
Rallos, Grayface, Pertreeko and Ea
Yasmin may take her turn now
Yasmin al Akbar |
Yasmin readies her magics to daze the first person she sees. Will DC 13. Hoping to stop them before they get to Rallos, so there's room for the fighters to walk in.
Grayface |
Gray puffs up his chest and strides into the room, sword and board at the ready. I can't update the map yet. I want to place myself in the south-middle of the room where everyone will be affected by my Dazzling Display.
"HA ha ha ha. I suggest that you lower your weapons before you are shorn asunder!"
Dazzling Display(Intimidate all enemies within 30'): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
"I'm only going to ask once. Lower your weapons or die this day."
Yasmin al Akbar |
Moved you on the map, Grayface.
Yasmin moves into the room and attempts to disorient one of the bandits! Daze on #2, Will DC13.
She also is suspicious that the bandits are withdrawing, and looks for a trap. Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Ea Zalinsel |
The voice of Ea is heard from the entrance of the room
As a priest of Pharasma, I will pray of course for your souls, and bury your bodies. The Graveyard is waiting, always open, both for the fools and the wise. But the wise don't tempt Fate, and live maybe longer because they do as my comrade Greyface says. No shame in surrendering when your cause is lost.
Her presence and the calm certainty with which she says these chilling words are nearly overwhelming.
Intimidate, help Grayface: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
GM Zed |
Grayface, as written, I'm not sure you can move and do a Dazzling Display...it is a Full Round Action...but I like the imagery of him bursting in full of bravado so all is good...
As Grayface smashes his way into the room, a single bolt flies from the north west alcove...zipping past his raised shield and slamming into his shoulder...
Splinter 1, Readied Action - Crossbow vs Grayface: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20, hitting for 1d8 ⇒ 8
Undeterred, the warrior stands where all can see him and slamming his sword against his shield issues his challenge...
Splinters are shaken; Splinter 1 for 1 round and Splinters 2 / 3 for 2 rounds
Following Grayface into the room, Yasmin attempts to slow one of the outlaws...
Splinter 2, Will Save vs Daze (shaken): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4, Will Save Failed, Splinter 2 is Dazed for 1 round
Rallos and Pertreeko (unless he is still delaying / readying) may take their turn
