Spooky, hi! It's Navia from your Darkest Corners game - good to see you back online and I'm glad that your situation has gotten better :)

I've got a character more or less completed that I've submitted to the -other- WotR recruitment that's happening right now. If she isn't accepted over there I might her toss her into the ring here, provided her background would be acceptable (I'd also have to readjust her since the other game is gestalt).

GM:

I'm not sure how set you are on having characters that are explicitly stated to be in Kenabres with the purpose of signing up for the crusade. The abridged version of the character background is that she's a Shelyn worshiper who has been traveling with the Glory of the Risen Rose (referenced in the Faiths of Purity player companion) and the group has happened to roll into Kenabres just in time for Armasse. Whether by fate or by chance, she's in the right place at the right time to get swept up in the events of the AP. Though she'd never intended to wind up on the front lines, she can't in good conscience walk away from those that need her help.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm familiar with the AP up until the start of Book 3 but I'm confident in my ability to keep player knowledge and character knowledge separate. It's a bit metagamey on my part, but additional character motivation can come from the fact that she's led a relatively charmed life up until this point and the fact that she'll likely lose all/most of her companions from the GotRR would also give her a reason to fight. There's also nothing beautiful at all about demons and the chaos and sorrow they leave in their wake...

@Jens: Oh, her. "Her" also works.

@Ladile: Wow, I guess I should have figured there'd be people from my old campaigns coming out of the woodwork. As for motivation, characters don't need to be crusaders or intent on joining the crusades at the start, but if the situation puts them into it, they should be committed to doing "what's right". Your idea works for that perfectly; someone who doesn't mean to get wrapped up in things, but isn't going to walk away when s$&@ gets important. Even a Han Solo type can quality as "the righteous" when push comes to shove. And in that regard, I'm fine with a bit of metagminess on the character concept front, since it doesn't harm the game in any way.

Aaaand it's roster time. As I said, sorting by Path, because that's how I intend to form the party. So, if you've yet to figure out what you're doing, maybe consider trying for one of the less competitive spots:

Archmage:

Champion:
-Cinna Blackthorn, Human Paladin (Holy Tactician) of Sarenrae

Guardian:
-Elias Wolfen, Human Ranger (Divine Hunter)
-Jens Varmodsson, Human Cavalier (Honor Guard)
-Tcirash Suntouched, Aasimar Warpriest of Sarenrae
-Thomas Vinland, Human Cleric of Desna

Hierophant:

Marshal:
-Eibon Elders, Aasimar Paladin of Iomedae
-Fuego the Cleanser, Ifrit Inquisitor
-Olivia Wormwood, Tiefling Paladin (Divine Hunter) of Sarenrae
-Steave Rojerz, Half-Elf Ranger (Freebooter/Skirmisher)

Trickster:
-Indrana, Tiefling Bard

Umm, I think you forgot me.

Fixed.

Lily here, the Purifier Oracle.

Backstory and crunch should be in her profile, so I'll just list a few misc stuff here

Gameplay Role:

Lily is a supporting character, basically standing on the sidelines with a few buff spells at the ready, as well as healing spells. At 5th level she can channel energy as a cleric to harm outsiders, giving her some offensive presence, and should be able to pick up the Channel Force line of feats to throw enemies around for some battlefield control. Like most divine casters, she plans on going for the Hierophant mythic path. Out of combat, Lily can act quite a nice face if required

Personality:

Just realised I missed this out in my backstory. Lily is a hardened individual, as an orphan she has had a tougher run through life that most, and obviously doesn't have the greatest amount of trust towards adults. Despite this, she is quick with a smile, and is happy to mediate disputes. Left to her own devices, she has the habit of brooding over controlling her occult powers so she prefers to spend most of her time with others rather than being alone. Close friends of Lily would not she appears slightly tired, as if she still has sleeping difficulties.

Welcome back, Spooky! Glad to see things are going better for you.

Vardan Argider happy to report back -- originally built to take the Marshall role, but thinking Guardian might be a somewhat better fit (will need minor edit to the history to make it) -- and, like Steave and Iolana, also need to drop 2 levels and some gear. ;)

dot
considering a human summoner who could easily fall into either the Archmage or Guardian camps

If there's still room, I would like to bring my favorite inquisitor Carious Resana of Cayden Cailean back from the dead as a hierophant inquisitor. If not that, then his cousin Irok the crossblooded celestial/abyssal sorcerer will be happy to fill an archmage spot. Not used to PbP so might need help learning it if chosen. :) Thank you if you choose me.

Btw, they are both aasimars.

Worth pointing out that if there is a real cluster of people wanting to play a particular path, and next to no submissions for another path, I don't mind switching characters and filling out the submission numbers of the 'forgotten' mythic path!

I have another concept which is Archmage, but switching that would just make champion unloved. (I like the idea of a party that all derive their power from Sarenrae.)

I'll go ahead and dot with Tessara.

She's a (non-minmaxed) synthesist summoner that could progress into either Champion or Archmage.

I'll make sure she fits the recruitment requirements tomorrow.

Olivia could be Champion too, but there's one person in that one and we need the other two filled out.

Really this is why I don't like this system with the campaign traits. They're more specific than previously and they tie directly into the game to the point that it calls for players to coordinate.

@Tessara: Synthesist Summoners aren't allowed, sorry.

@Olivia: While I admit it's not the most graceful way of doing things, it's worked for me in the past. Right now things are a little bare in some categories, but the thread's only been live for two days; it should even out just fine as time goes on.

The problem with the traits is that because there is so much backstory in them, having a party with a bunch of randoms makes coordinating and resolving everyone's individual pasts a touch more difficult. Everyone writes in their own vacuum and the specifics of, say, the ritual in Exposed to Awfulness, would end up varying wildly, further complicating matters. This is my solution to that.

However, if we seem a little thin in certain areas by the time we hit the weekend, I will allow people to note a "backup" path they would be willing to take. It'd require a bit of rewriting if you get chosen for the backup, but we'll deal with that once we have a better idea of how things go. I know there's another WotR recruitment going on that ought to be ending before mine, and it's more than possible that we'll get some people who didn't make the cut there.

I think the Captain is fully reset to 1st. His primary path is Marshal due to his background, but he could go Champion.

cheers

Also do I need to go ahead and make the character so I can apply?

Spooky GM wrote:

Oops! I missed that part. I'll cook up something else.

@SoulDragon: You need to at least write up the character's sheet and background; no need to make a complete alias for them or anything.

I am withdrawing interest. I do not have much more room in my life, and another game's char is shaping up into a much interesting person. Oh yes, just to be clear my submission was Fuego the Cleanser.

The other one (which I have also applied for, twice) is actually a Gestalt game. I really want to play in the Adventure Path, but it's hard to convert Gestalt characters back into regular ones and keep their same flavor. I suspect that a lot of that is what drew people to the game.

Ok, decided to not go Tiefling and instead here is Godwin Solace Aasimar Warpriest of Iomedae. Built him by hand as the character creator I use doesn't support warpriests yet. Hope I got everything right.

He's got Archon Blood and I swapped in Celestial Crusader and Incorruptible in place of the resistances, skill bonuses, and the spell like ability. Please let me know what you think. He's got the Touched by Divinity trait heading into Hierophant.

BACKGROUND:

For many in this troubled and demon cursed land dreams are the stuff of nightmares and horrors. They speak of gibbering horrors and demonic screams. Their sleeping hours, they say, are haunted.

My dreams are not haunted. They are instead graced. Graced by a Lion. The Lion of Iomedae. Ever in my dreams. I am blessed.

I grew up in one of the many orphanages of Kenebras. One of the countless orphans created by the ceaseless war against the damned fiends of the abyss that press against the wardstones constantly. It was obvious from the start though that my origin was... other.. than purely human. There is some celestial blood in my veins. Even still the life of a starving needy child is harsh no matter what their bloodline might be and I do not know what would have become of me if it wasn't for the divine peace I could always count on in my resting hours. It wasn't until I was eleven years old that I made the connection between the lion that comforted me in my dreams and the church of The Lady of Valor.

Every moment that I could I spent in the church close to the crowded and run down shelter where I slept. I scrubbed the pews, cleaned the altar, ran messages, volunteered for any and every task just so I could spend as much time on Iomedae's holy ground as I could. When I first exhibited signs of my divine connection to The Inheritor I was accepted into the hierarchy and put to work at the lowest levels. Nourished by my faith and the better rations I grew up both strong and devout, catching the attention of both the ecclesiatcial and the military leadership of the church.

I... could not choose between them. Sometimes I dreamed of the Lion wielding a sword, making me thing I should join the Paladin orders. Other times I dreamt of the Lion with a sunburst Halo around him, leading me towards the clergy. In the end I chose both and started my journey towards becoming a warpriest in her service. It was the right choice.

Ten years to the day that I first stepped foot in the church I stand ready to do battle with the accursed demon hoardes as a fully adorned warpriest. May Iomedae bless my sword and my armor as I step into battle in her name.

Alright so do I have to choose stuff from Blood of Angels or can I just make a normal aasimar with maybe a few racial traits from the ARG?

@Olivia: Probably in lower numbers, but whenever two APs are recruiting there's usually some late spillover, gestalt or not. People get excited about the AP and want the second chance to play in it.

@SoulDragon: You can make a completely vanilla Aasimar if you chose to. Every option being open means the default is too.

Alright I'll get started then. I have to go somewhere in a bit but I will continue work once I get back. Should be done later tonight.

When is recruitment closing?

Sunday evening.

Grand Lodge

Hi there, I would like to submit Delkar here as the party cleric/Hierophant role. I'd be playing him as support with 'teeth' going more towards pure spellcasting/buffing as the mythic tiers go up.

I may look over some of his 'crunch' but for the most part he is complete!

Let me know what you think!

Backstory:

Carious was one of a unique group of aasimar quadruplets born in a small village in Andoran. Sadly his mother died giving birth to him and his three siblings,Roran,Lorianne, and Zex. Their father was left to raise them in the religious community. They each found their calling. Lorianne began studying beer brewing and alchemy. Zex experimented with explosive powders. Roran began learning the martial arts. Carious, however, joined his father at the church of Cayden Cailean, training to become an inquisitor. He enjoyed helping Lorianne brew ales and crush grapes for wine. He spent hours shooting bows and practicing his fencing techniques. He loved every minute of being in the church.

Then, one stormy night,as Carious was finishing cleaning up the brewing stations, there was a knock on the church door. He opened it to find 2 men and 3 women in raggedy clothes and makeshift cloaks standing in the rain. They begged him to give them shelter. So Carious cleared some space in the basement for them to stay, and brought them a basic meal and some ale. He told them as long as they were quiet, they could stay.

Weeks went by, with Carious checking up on the beggars every so often. Then one day, the ground beneath the church quaked. Suddenly, a glabrezu demon burst through the church floor, roaring madly. It began to destroy the village, tearing apart buildings and gleefully murdering civilians and guards. Eventually it died from wounds that members of the inquisition had given it. The village was now nothing more than ash.

Carious survived and picked through the rubble to where the basement once was. The beggars were nowhere in sight. He did, however, find a piece of wood shaped like a 3-eyed jackal. Recognizing it as the holy symbol of Lamashtu, Carious yelled in anger at himself for letting in evil cultists. He then gathered his things and headed out of the burnt village, vowing to destroy any and all demons in the name of the Drunken Hero. No demons would ruin his fun again. He headed towards Mendev and the Worldwound, hearing that crusaders were needed to fend off the demon hordes.

Spooky, you're back? Well, I'd be willing to throw Kyra back into the potential mix as a Cleric prestiging into Exalted. Will throw the statblock/backstory in here later.

Alternatively, I could create a Warpriest, either/or.

Updated roster time.

Archmage:

Champion:
-Cinna Blackthorn, Human Paladin (Holy Tactician) of Sarenrae

Guardian:
-Elias Wolfen, Human Ranger (Divine Hunter)
-Jens Varmodsson, Human Cavalier (Honor Guard)
-Tcirash Suntouched, Aasimar Warpriest of Sarenrae
-Thomas Vinland, Human Cleric of Desna

Hierophant:
-Carious Resana, Aasimar Inquisitor of Cayden Cailean
-Godwin Solace, Aasimar Warpriest of Iomedae
-Kyra Altreas, Aasimar Cleric of Iomedae
-Lily Taharial, Aasimar Oracle (Purifier) of Iomedae

Marshal:
-Eibon Elders, Aasimar Paladin of Iomedae
-Olivia Wormwood, Tiefling Paladin (Divine Hunter) of Sarenrae
-Steave Rojerz, Half-Elf Ranger (Freebooter/Skirmisher)
-Vardan Argider, Aasimar Cavalier (Emissary)

Trickster:
-Indrana, Tiefling Bard

Interesting to see the Aasimar domination of Hierophant, as well as some 2/3rds spellcasters vying for it too.

In my case, I just already had a character ready. Honestly, I've also been wanting to make a Desnan Warpriest, but I can't find campaigns for her. ;x;

Silver Crusade

Anarya was created for a previous WotR (and is, coincidentally, yet another Aasimar) which sadly died after a single fight. She is a foundling left on the steps of a formerly Arodenite temple (since converted to the worship of Iomedae). Performing minor miracles since birth and possessing a flickering halo of light about her head, the sisterhood of the temple told her she was destined to do great things in the name of the goddess. Despite her divine powers, she never officially joined Iomedae's clergy, though she is devoted to the goddess and uses her innate magic as a healer.

Her life link revelation takes the form of stigmata - she can take on the injuries of her companions, suffering their wounds so they may continue to strike down the wicked. When threatened by the corrupt, her halo flashes into harsh brilliance, smiting demons and undead alike with holy power. She utilizes the variant channeling of the Rulership portfolio, and any who succumb to her channeled energy are dazed by its might.

Anarya's previous campaign can be found here, if any are curious what her gameplay is like.

It seems like she'd do amazingly if she prestiged into Holy Vindicator, as they actually get Stigmata as a class feature.

Hah, Hierophants suddenly become one of the hottest tickets.

She will be. :)

Not an Aasimar? We don't serve yer kind here!

Whoops, missed you. Appended the Notepad file, but it's too late to edit the post.

It's funny but at the same time this is one AP where having Aasimar and Tiefling characters coming out of the woodwork actually makes some sense and is thematically appropriate! And though my own submission is likely going to be an Aasimar as well, I'd love to see what sorts of stories might bring some of the other non-Core, non-Aasimar/Tiefling races to Kenabres.

*edit* Wow, no love for the arcane casters yet? I might have to try fixing that if I can come up with a good story.

Silver Crusade

Would you allow multiple submissions, Spooky? I might apply for the Archmage role if so - though Anarya has a special place in my heart and she'd be my first choice.

I usually don't, but give it another day or so. If by Friday we're still looking at a really unbalanced submission roster then I might allow second characters and maybe push recruitment back a day if need be. There have been several dots for people with arcane ideas, and we'll see if any of them come back with characters first.

Silver Crusade

Okay! Another option is to accept some roles, and then allow people to resubmit for another category.

I'd allowed that, but Trickster and Archmage would both be pretty neglected by the very divine/martial-heavy applicants so far.

Grand Lodge

No worries Spooky!

Should the need arise, I am more than willing to retool a character/swap out to a different role. I picked the divine since I saw us missing a huge part there in the earlier sheet.

The flavour of the Player's guide steers very heavily in that direction. It kinda makes sense with the theme of the Adventure Path.

Spooky, I am putting together a Tiefling Wizard to submit. Since tieflings have an aging profile somewhere between dwarves and elves, would you allow one to take the Breadth of Experience feat from APG?

I'm interested in this campaign. I've had a character concept for a Catfolk Bloodrager floating around in my head for a while now. I could definitely format his backstory in a way that works for him being here, if you'd be okay with the non-core race. Would that be a possibility?

@Azih: Yeah, that wasn't really a complaint so much as a reason why it wouldn't be a viable option.

@markofbane: I'd allow it.

Whoops, forgot about that aging difference for tieflings, used to my main campaign setting where they age at human rate. I'll tweak the back story to take that into account.

Tieflings and Aasimars are supposed to have the same lifespan of humans, according to James Jacobs, the creative director for Paizo. However, the rulebooks have the extended timeline.

Given how utterly different one tiefling is from another, I can't imagine any issues with your tiefling having a human-like lifespan even if another has an elf-like one.
