Shadows over York

Game Master Rogar Valertis

It's the year of the Lord 1197 and the barony of York is besieged from all sides. Lupines and rebels circle around it like famelic wolves while dark and nefarious plans are afoot among the descendants of Caine.

It's in such a grim situation that 5 young vampires are called to defend the Barony. Can they succeed or will they fall prey to the many enemies of the Barony?

Commanding the eye to scout the sewers is all very well, but tell me how do you plan for it to enter into them? Do you know of an entrance or an access? Do you mean for it to search for an entrance? Or do you have something precise in mind? I think this can be easily solved by using a little deductive thought... :P

Finding an entrance, if its possible for it to descend it will. It won't go too far from the entrance however, if its able to down. Otherwise, it will just hover near the entrance

Lachlan's sword is a blur as he uses teh supernatural powers of his blood to act with impossible speed. Yet once again Lucien's blade raises to intercept it just before it can connect. Then the knight smirks, sheates his blade and starts raining bare handed blows on Lachlan faster than the eye can follow:"And you call yourself a knight? You are just young and full of yourself! The road of Aucassin certainly suits you!" adds the brujah while he punches at Lachlan

Anyone following the duel: intelligence+Politics please, Intelligence+Chivalry might be used too (and gives a bonus to the difficulty of the roll). Lachlan, you have got 13 (!) levels of bashing damage to soak

On catching up the the valets, Edward calls out in a commanding voice. "Halt. Where is that the two of you depart for without leave?"

As the toreador knight falls on his knees, his face an horrible mess of bruises, Lucien contemptuously starts to walk away. As he moves away from his Lachlan he adresses the rest of the coterie:"I believe this little clash to be over. It was unfortunate but necessary as honor demanded it. Yet this has shown me the error of my ways, I should not have suggested I was willing to help you. You are young yet you deserve the right to make your own choices... and mistakes. I wish you luck with your search, I will depart for Whitby at once, maybe I'll be able to track down the serpent without the Lepers' help" so saying Lucien moves out of the hall and departs.

Lachlan:

At the same time Edward Edouard and Bertand reach the valets, who although plainly unhappy, stop:"Yes ser. What is you command?"

Vito:
The eye exits the castle from one of the embrasures in the walls and gently glides over the walls and the moat. Then it starts to roam just above the streets, still teeming with the living and searches for something it could use to access the sewers

He then turns to Lachlan as Eddy is pulling him away, "Boy Lachlan that seemed ill advised, well in hindsight anyway!"

The valet fidgets a little as unsure of how to answer the question then he sighs and whispers:"We were going to report these happenings to ser Marquand. He's been very specific about any breaches of the peace being reported immediately. We are just doing our duty, you see. Just following orders. Pardon me, ser, but... a duel between those of your kind, fought with the powers of blood displayed plainly for all to see... with that many witnesses ser Marquand will want to know about this at once as he'll have to fix this before it's too late" as he finishes you notice several of the spectators wear a look of atonishment on their faces as they just can't believe what they just saw.

Vito:
The eye glides up and down the streets for some minutes then it notices a big vault pouring dark water into the river just before one of the bridges outside the castle and leading in the bowels of the city proper


Lachlan shakes his head, attempting to stop the ringing in his ears. He slowly rises to his feet, his head hanging down. Sheathing his sword, he turns back to his resting place and begins donning his armour.

"I thought we might need to stay out of both the fray and the fallout, lest we acquire the blame."

"Blame for what?"

Bertrand looks confused for a moment then the realization dawns on him. "Geez this place is scary! You are right! We could be blamed for anything at any time and who would believe us?!"

Bertrand looks fitful at the possibility.


"It is my experience that the ones who lose often receive the blame, as the winners tell the tale."

"I bet. I think we should go now. Let's find our contacts here, get information and get going! I don't want to get the blame if this Lucien character gets it from this Serpent".

Edward returns to his companions. "Well fought Ser Lachlan, remember that every joust is not won. You have fought with honour. Now we have a pressing task to accomplish."

Turning to the others he says. "Let us take a proper gift, I do not wish to be in the den of the creatures without suitable offering. If their taste is for younger blood then that is what we shall carry."

"What sort of roll would we need to make to find a human teenager? Preferably someone the humans wouldn't miss or expect to go missing.


"I was most certain I would get blamed one way or another for something."

"There is more than one vagrant about, I would say older the younger are due much charity from the orders."

Bertrand wrings his hands in worry at the thought that his idea may lead to the death of an innocent.

"Perhaps a bandit of some sort? But how to find one on such short notice. .."

Edward of York:
If you want to roll you'll need a pretty awesome hunt result for something so specific. If you want you can try to figure out a way to shave the odds through roleplay though (hint: someone may know where to find such prey, or someone else could even be able to provide your quarry... for a boon, of course...). Either way that route means road rolls for most of you

The valets bow low and leave quickly, at the same time the crowd surrounding Lachlan begins to disperse, although you can hear angry comments from some of them.

The shadow creature Vito conjured comes back to its master staying carefully in the shadows and avoiding notice.

Soon you are alone again, and you need to consider your next move carefully.

"Nay Bertrand, one does not simply find thy foes. Proper preparation is the difference between victory and failure. Let us find a suitably offering, it shall not take long if we combine our efforts. Very well, let us begin our search, let us see what offerings we find. The fate of our offering is not in our hands but in the hands of the Nosferatu. Do not burden yourself with such worries. says Edward looking to the badly beaten Lachlan for support.


Lachlan returns Edward's look and nods in agreement. "Sir Edward speaks true. We need to get hands on a worthy gift to exchange for information on the Serpents. I suggest St. Peter's. The minster will likely have those up an' aboot applying to their studies or serving those students."

So the roll to commune is a Wits roll, but it doesn't give a difficulty. Should I go with 6?


Edouards mind spins to comprehend this system and how it functions....

"Perhaps a prisoner already condemned, thus the death is already just?"

The castle has a dungeon and a torture chamber so you might actually find some poor souls down there... You might also consider who could hold domain there.... (Intelligence+Politics to recall that particular piece of information)

Bertand:
You seem to remember hearing something about Baron John forcing the Nosferatu to subsist only on the blood of lowly beasts in some sort of parody of Caine courses upon your kin. You are not sure but it's possible giving the nosferatu a human being to feast upon could mean to break the Baron's edict.

And you feel deadly certain the dungeons of the castle are the Sheriff's domain. You couldn't say where you heard this - idle chatting at court, maybe? - but you are sure the dungeon was given to the Sheriff by his sire. You are sure to find his all too unpleasant self in there, and possibly his pet Gangrels too

Edouard:
If you recall correctly the dungeon is the Sheriff's domain, a place well known for being the last place troublemakers of every sort visit if they fall in Ashlington's clutches

"Maybe we just go there and talk to them. The dungeon is not a great idea the more I think about it. The Sheriff and his men hold sway there and telling them we want a prisoner to give to the Nosferatu probably won't go over well. But I will leave it up to you Edward and Lachlan as the High Clan members in our little group to make the final call".

You didn't spend a lot of time studying the laws of the kingdom when you were mortal and you didn't start when you were turned into an undead. Yet you are quite sure giving the Nosferatu a human being won't sit very well with the Baron and his cronies.

Also you know the most likely place where to find a prisoner is certainly the castle's dungeon. Unfortunately that's also the Sheriff's domain and while it's possible he would be making preparations for the upcoming battle you think he's not the kind of person who lets bygones be bygones... quite the contrary actually

As Vito tells you what he has found you realize you need to make a choice right now: get into the darkness under the city searching for answers or moving along with the Baron's quest. If you linger here any longer things can get much more complicated as the seneshal would want answers and you realize you have made quite a few enemies already...
