It sill depend whether Toffitt detects a target during his sneaking. Likely he will begin sneaking around the caverns, with something of an eye out for traps.


Bear with me, this was a complicated round. I did my best to figure out what would have happened without replaying the entire round.

Toffitt moves up and notices a humanoid shape and a canine shape in the fire.

I'm assuming he fires at one of them. Let me know which. I picked R-23 for Toffitt for cover.

I moved Finneas up the stairs. He's still large, but squeezing in last square of stairs.

Atol casts bull's strength on Glimmil before he starts into the room.

Glimmil hangs out next to the door with Finneas, Dyrant, and Atol, as he pears into the fire as he tries to see what Toffitt is talking about.

Moving forward to the next question, the fire acts like fog in terms of vision. The adjacent 5' are concealment 20% miss chance. More than 5' blocks line of sight. I'm mixed on how to play this with the echolocation, but since it doesn't block effect I'm going to say the echolocation works through it.

Toffitt sees the humanoid gesture and three babau demons pop us next to him. They take some 5' steps and try to slice open Toffitt, but not one of them hit him.

Spotting the demons surrounding Toffit, Glimmil lowers his lance and begins his new favorite of battlefield maneuvers - the gnomish charge.

@Toffitt. The room is cavern like so I'll go with soft corners.

Toffitt's arrow hits the humanoid who appears to be undead. The canine he's not sure about.

@Glimmil. The ride by attack has to be a straight line. "Benefit: When you are mounted and use the charge action, you may move and attack as if with a standard charge and then move again (continuing the straight line of the charge)." The bonfire is not difficult terrain so you could go through it. You can't actually see anyone yet though. Toffitt told you they are in the fire, but where exactly is unknown. You could guess at M29, M30, N29, or N30 and roll the 50% miss chance. You could guess M29 or N29 and avoid going in the fire.

Toffitt tumbles out of the flanks and fires into the flames again, but this time the arrow just bounces off the undead figure. At the center of the flames he can see a short pillar that is likely the source of the flames. Any damage caused by Toffitt's last arrow seems to have disappeared.

Finneas moves up to the edge of the flames. Glimmil puts his lance into the back of one of the demons before moving on.

Atol starts on his silence spell while Dyrant receives protection from evil from Araylnn. He then tries to dispel the magical bonfire without success.

The demons rush over to Atol. One provokes if Atol has a weapon out. Only one demon hits, but it will be enough to force a concentration check from Atol.

Toffitt moves up and slashes a demon (B3,-29). Finneas also moves to help Atol[b] and puts a large gash in the last undamaged one (B2, -40). I remembered he had a cold iron sword. [b]Glimmil charges in and also stabs a demon with his lance.

Atol loses his spell and tries to extricate himself from the pack of demons. Aralynn also comes to his assistance and casts protection from evil on him. Dyrant starts a summon.

Toffitt looks more closely at the center of the bonfire. He realizes it's not actually a pillar, but just a black hole in space.
I changed it. There's a difference between the center and the flames. However, I didn't want to leave you with the impression it was something you could physically destroy.

One demon takes a 5' step back and teleports behind Glimmil. Another demon takes a 5' step up and goes after Cog, hitting once. The last demon tries to strike Toffitt, but misses.

A giant pit deeper than can be seen opens up under Finneas, Glimmil, and Cog.
(DC 22 REF save or fall. Finneas can have a +4 since he's only halfway over the pit.)

You could still use the hero point. Play by post needs to allow for such timing.

Dyrant smiles cheerfully, trying to make the best of a bad situation and trying to pretend he didn't just drag a celestial fox out of its warm celestial foxhole and drag it directly to the Abyss where it will be rent apart by demons. The Celestial Battle Fox (a small creature) will take a looksee at the black hole flames, then at the demons, and then probably cry a bit inside.

Everyone manages to stay out of the pit, though some needed more help than others. Pit was definitely created by an evil person so Cog makes the save.

Toffitt tries to push a demon into the pit. The demon claws at him first, but misses. Toffitt pushes against the demon, but is unable to move him. Finneas cuts down the demon (B2) though.

Cog manages to keep himself and Glimmil out of the pit. Glimmil then finishes off another demon (B1).

Everyone but Cog has lost the protection because they've been more than 10' away from Glimmil at some point. "Creatures that leave the area and come back are not protected."

Only Toffitt can see the creatures in the flames with his echolocation.
