Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn's muscles quiver in anticipation of combat.

GM

Sorry I forgot my map...DOH!

map

Fighter Level 9

Cord staggers side ways as he is bowled out of the way by Finn.

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn begins tearing apart the room, looking for the source of the thrown soup.

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3

Guard keeps watch in the rear of the room, his heavy flail readied.

GM

Finn can make out a rope leading to the room to the south.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

"Everyone ready ranged weapons; I can open the door from here with open/close. Be ready to take out whatever may be in there." If no one has any objections, Daurros will wait for everyone to prepare a ranged attack, then cast his cantrip.

Fighter Level 9

Cord reluctantly sheaths his weapon and pulls out the crossbow, "I do appreciate the irony of shooting them with one of their own weapons" he grins. "Ready when you are."

Has Ardanto left us? :-)

male Kalashtar Shaper 2

Nah, I think two different responses to two different PbP's got mixed up by the web server

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn nods silently and draws his repeater.

Fighter Level 9

Ignore my stupidity, I am multi-tasking, badly. It is of course Ardanto who said that, Cord is an unfortunate Vancouver Fire Man, fleeing for his life from a hoard of hive like zombies in a different pbp.

GM

as the door swings inward you see a small cramped room [5x15]. A layer of sand and countless seashells cover the floor. A hammock hangs from hooks to the wall in the southeast and a pile of blankets and cushions lay below it

Well, it wouldn't have been totally out of character, anyway, considering Ardanto's current "identity crisis"... ;-)

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

Daurros will use HoA to move the pile of blankets and cushions, to see if anything is under them. Can someone roll a Perception check for me (+1)?

GM

Heh maybe I should stop rolling for folks...you got 5

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn scans the room.

GM

Finn sees nothing out of the ordinary in the room

Fighter Level 9

Ardanto looks confused as the room appears empty, "was that a trap, or is there another way out of here?" He lowers his crossbow and picks up the length of rope, intent on following it.

Yes, that does mean I am unarmed if you have anything nasty planned.

GM

The rope leads from the pot and it's spring trap to the door and the small room, as if someone pulled it and ran.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

Daurros coughs and chokes on the dust from the blankets and cushions which obscured his vision. Does either the door to the south or to the east look to have been opened recently?

GM

Not that you can tell as with most doors you have seen so far they look slightly ajar

Fighter Level 9

What does this room look like it is used for? From the description a kitchen area with a cooks living room?

Ardanto shrugs, "who ever it was is long gone and I don't think we are going to find Vanderboren in here, shall we try another way?" He replaces his crossbow and retrieves his torch and sword.

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn scowls in frustration. "Agreed. It looks like the soup-throwing bastard is long gone. He's probably alerted the whole guild by now..."

I imagine the party will check the north door now?

Fighter Level 9

"What a waste of good food," Ardanto grumbles as he heads over to the north door and swings it open.

GM

This room is nearly clogged with crates, barrels and stacks of grain

Map

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn sends a man-shaped fiery form walking through the crates.

GM

The fiery man casts shadows along the room but nothing else is seen

Fighter Level 9

Noticing that no one is following him North, Ardanto turns back around and follows the Fiery man, kicking crates over as he goes.

Daurros comes up to Ardanto, and says quietly: "My friend, do you remember all those times in the past when I've scolded you for being too noisy and loud, when stealth was required? And you told me, 'Daurros, if I ever start to get too loud again, just whack me upside my head.' Remember?"

Daurros then gives Ardanto a swat on the back of his head (not enough to cause damage).

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

"Shhh!" hisses Finn as he follows the pair through the maze of crates.

GM

Though the room is small you do find a small crate labeled" poison"

Ardanto freezes and stands there, quietly, grinning like the village idiot, "You know I hate all this sneaking around, I'd rather be trading blows with them." Despite that he does proceed with more caution.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

Daurros will use his open/close cantrip to try and open the "poison" crate from a distance, preferably after Whisper has checked for any traps.

GM

Whisper fails to find any traps and the crate seems to hold 6 vials of some kind of substance

Where to next?

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3

Guard takes the vials, securing them inside his backpack, then thinking better of it, and gets one out again. He waits for the others to leave the room, then slowly opens the vial and even more slow takes a breath, trying to get the smell of the substance.

If all goes well, the warforged will get a small drop of the substance on his finger, trying to feel it's touch.
Lastly he will lick the substance off of his finger, tasting it.

GM

Guard

Spoiler:

Your pretty sure its sea urchin poison, but you might be wrong

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3

Seeker:

Spoiler:
I'm pretty sure, Guard does not know what that is.

GM

Guard

Spoiler:

This is going off a few things
1.It is labeled poison
2. it tastes bitter
3. it smells like the urchins in the sea cave you him

so If it is poison, he thinks he knows what kind, if it is not well it may be a odd cooking spice, flesh and blood folks are odd after all

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3

Seeker:

Spoiler:
Got it then. Thanks.

Going after the others he asks quietly: "Any of you know of a poison made from sea urchins? Those 'living' here seem to have harvested it."

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

"I have no idea what a sea erchin is, but we'll worry about it later," Finn interrupts impatiently.

He moves over to the north door and listens intently.

Perception 1d20+12=21

Fighter Level 9

"The sea Urchins we walked across in the zombie tunnels could be harvested and boiled down to make it?" Ardanto suggests helpfully.

"Which way now?" he asks, "if this is the eating area we are going to wander into some barracks soon."

"I have no idea, how that 'poison' got made, I just somehow connected the sea urchins to it, mostly because of the smell." Guard explains, following the others as rear guard again.

male Kalashtar Shaper 2

"We can use it later, when we rest. Go on, Ardanto."

Fighter Level 9

After they have listened at the door Ardanto heads through it, careful to avoid any flying pots of food.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

proposal for a new strategy: listen at each door, check for traps, then everyone stand back with ranged weapons ready while I open the door with open/close. That should keep us out of the way of additional traps, and hopefully prevent a surprise round on our part ...

Fighter Level 9

Sounds good to me.
