"Everyone ready ranged weapons; I can open the door from here with open/close. Be ready to take out whatever may be in there." If no one has any objections, Daurros will wait for everyone to prepare a ranged attack, then cast his cantrip.
Cord reluctantly sheaths his weapon and pulls out the crossbow, "I do appreciate the irony of shooting them with one of their own weapons" he grins. "Ready when you are."

Ignore my stupidity, I am multi-tasking, badly. It is of course Ardanto who said that, Cord is an unfortunate Vancouver Fire Man, fleeing for his life from a hoard of hive like zombies in a different pbp.
as the door swings inward you see a small cramped room [5x15]. A layer of sand and countless seashells cover the floor. A hammock hangs from hooks to the wall in the southeast and a pile of blankets and cushions lay below it

Well, it wouldn't have been totally out of character, anyway, considering Ardanto's current "identity crisis"... ;-)
Ardanto looks confused as the room appears empty, "was that a trap, or is there another way out of here?" He lowers his crossbow and picks up the length of rope, intent on following it.
Yes, that does mean I am unarmed if you have anything nasty planned.
Daurros coughs and chokes on the dust from the blankets and cushions which obscured his vision. Does either the door to the south or to the east look to have been opened recently?
What does this room look like it is used for? From the description a kitchen area with a cooks living room?
Ardanto shrugs, "who ever it was is long gone and I don't think we are going to find Vanderboren in here, shall we try another way?" He replaces his crossbow and retrieves his torch and sword.
Noticing that no one is following him North, Ardanto turns back around and follows the Fiery man, kicking crates over as he goes.
Daurros comes up to Ardanto, and says quietly: "My friend, do you remember all those times in the past when I've scolded you for being too noisy and loud, when stealth was required? And you told me, 'Daurros, if I ever start to get too loud again, just whack me upside my head.' Remember?"
Daurros then gives Ardanto a swat on the back of his head (not enough to cause damage).

Ardanto freezes and stands there, quietly, grinning like the village idiot, "You know I hate all this sneaking around, I'd rather be trading blows with them." Despite that he does proceed with more caution.
Guard takes the vials, securing them inside his backpack, then thinking better of it, and gets one out again. He waits for the others to leave the room, then slowly opens the vial and even more slow takes a breath, trying to get the smell of the substance.
If all goes well, the warforged will get a small drop of the substance on his finger, trying to feel it's touch.
Lastly he will lick the substance off of his finger, tasting it.
"The sea Urchins we walked across in the zombie tunnels could be harvested and boiled down to make it?" Ardanto suggests helpfully.
"I have no idea, how that 'poison' got made, I just somehow connected the sea urchins to it, mostly because of the smell." Guard explains, following the others as rear guard again.
proposal for a new strategy: listen at each door, check for traps, then everyone stand back with ranged weapons ready while I open the door with open/close. That should keep us out of the way of additional traps, and hopefully prevent a surprise round on our part ...
