Hello, just need to get a quick meal before I return to-! Ors! Is that you? What brings you to Riddleport? Are you going to enter the gambling tournament?

Iorisdlon is an elf arcanist who came to Riddleport years ago in hopes of gaining knowledge by joining the Order of the Cyphers. His current attempt to impress the Order is a research paper he is writing on the subject of the "Blot."

Notes to the GM:

  • I took the Researching the Blot trait, but also purposed to be the PC friend in town for Ors. I figure by elf standards 10 years might still be a short visit, but I am willing to modify this back story to something else to make it work for the campaign.
  • I understand the Researching the Blot trait to mean I can attempt to identify magic items without using Detect Magic, is this correct?
  • I am considering the Elven Favored Class Bonus for Arcanist that says "Increase total number of points in the arcanist's arcane reservoir by 1." I would like to know how you interpret that, whether it increases the max size, or the daily refresh, or something else.

Grog grunyo ohohoh uuuaagh! (He points at the mug Vash holds)
Vash hears a raspy voice in his head
Careful longbladed one, there is a fly in that mug!

Vash looks down into his milk, shrugs and downs it.

Naught but extra protein! say, how come ya sound so raspy? ye need a drink you do!

Uhghug (Nods head vigorously)

You hear the same raspy voice again
No!... no, thats quite alright im not aloud to drink alcohol
(Balthazar looks down as if saddened by this)

Vash looks confused.

why are all the tall people always so .... Daft. This ain't naught but milk ya ninny! But whatcha mean ya can't drink alcohol? Your religion or somethin? Hey barkeep! A drink for my friend here! He sounds parched as a beached whale!

Personality: Kertria is relatively innocent, having not explored much beyond her home village. She is, therefore, both scared and highly curious about the world. Having rarely met non-elves, she may not understand them too well but is eager to learn and adapt, much like how she took her parents skills in blade and magic and adapted them to her own use.

Goal (in character): Kertria is just eager to be away from her home village. The elf knows her mission and plans to keep her ears open, though she isn't too sure what she's looking for. As such, she overcompensates some. Barring all else, she's out and about and liking the freedom that that gives her.

Goal (for character): I plan on keeping her wholly a magus, focusing on beefing up her skill with the Elven Curve Blade. After that, her magic will be oriented towards defenses and the occasional self-buffing.

I'll post a 'first post' when I get home.

Chillblame here. Here is my submission

(Balthazar takes out a whistle and blows really hard. But no audiable sound comes from it.)
Urgarah ohoh grugruuu!
The raspy voice quietly speaks
Well i guess i can have ONE drink, perhaps a mead?
(Balthazar has a wide grin. A look of accomplishment comes accrossed his face as he takes the frothing mug of mead from the bartender.)

It was odd. One second a chair was vacant, the next a halfling sat in it, carefully eyeing the room. She has a drink in front of her and seems to have been there a while. Just overlooked. Like a shadow
not everyone here is tall. Not here for any tournament, except indirectly maybe. Lookin' for work

A small gnome like person walks into the busy bar. He climbs onto a chair and next onto a table.
"Who here thinks he can take me?!"
He shouts at everyone present as he eyes them up. He takes a ready stance with his shield and sword in hand.

Myrtheril. Yer here. Got my message. 'M glad yer still in town, wasn't sure an elf had it in 'im to stay in one place for this long.

No, not much of a gambler m'self, but I might be lookin' fer a safe place to stay while I'm here. There's trouble brewin' here, son, if y'know what to look for. I'm here to check it out before it spreads to Ableton.

He looks around the room at the assembled adventurers. Looks like there might be trouble brewin here too.

Don't know if you know, but your avatar leads to a ranger of Erastil that hates Gnolls. Might not be the best choice for Second Darkness.

Thought I'd mention it.

Amos glances around him, from the combative svirfneblin to the quieter elves and half-elves. Scoffing slightly, he turns back to his drink, but resolved to watch the svirfneblin carefully. Someone like him would likely find himself in need of medical attention and soon.

Hmm...would you accept a Catfolk character?

Sorry mucked up my profile. Nel is a sorceror, shadow bloodline. The profile should be correct now. Again, sorry about the confusion.

Yes, provided I like the story.

@DM: Would you like a first post to get a feel of how my posting style is?

Sounds good, give it a go.

As the weather begins to clear some, the young elf (by elf standards) stands just to the north of the port of infamy. And though most of her kind attempt to avoid this place as much as possible, she couldn't help but feel almost giddy inside.

Having never been more than a few miles from Arsmeril, she was excited to finally be in the wider world, even if it was just at the behest of the village's elders. Looking out, she saw droves of people, from humans to dwarves, as well as halflings and gnomes, even a few other more exotic ones as well.

And there, above the city, was the strange dark cloud, the focus of her mission. The elders seem concerned enough to grant her leave to study it, unsure as to it's purpose but greatly concerned that it might be a portent of something sinister.

But that didn't mean she had to spend all her time looking into it! With a small skip in her step, her vibrant purplish eyes flashing with enthusiasm, Kertria begins to walk into the town, eager to meet new people.

Thankfully, a friend of her families happens to be in town as well at 'the Gold Goblin', whatever that may be. And thus, she works her way towards the gambling hall. "I think this will be a nice little trip..."

Me the halfling next to the large orc shall challenge you to a duel!

I'm thinking about an elven lore oracle with the Ancient Lorekeeper archetype. If you're interested I will flesh out the character.

Could be neat, let's see it.

"Every corner of the world has trouble in it." Gramlag said overhearing as the man entered "But there needn't be any here tonight. Sit my little friend and tell me a tail of some of the fights im sure youve been in as you seem the rambunctious sort" Gramlag pulled up a chair to the table the gnome was standing on and invited him to the seat across from himself. "I love warriors sharing stories, battle is a place we have been to together and can share the feelings that we found there and learn from each other, so please sit, ill even get your drink and lets have a good night here" Gramlag said as he drank from his own tankard waiting for a response

Backstory
--------------------
Nel was the child of two Chelixian slaves. She was born on board a ship heading to Varisia, as her parents master was fleeing custody from Chelixian authorities due to magical malpractice. While on board ship the master, being bored, experimented on Nel, infusing her with shadow essence. This turned her skin somewhat grey, and made her eyes pitch black. It also gave her the potential for sorcery, specifically shadow magics.
Her master arrived in Riddleport and quickly associated himself with a local crime boss. Her parents continued their role as slaves to the master, until one night, when Nel was about 5, the crime boss fell out with the master and sent killers to finish him. Both of Nel’s parents were killed in the ensuing battle, and the master fled. He hasn’t turned up since. Nel fled to the streets.
For many years Nel grew up on the harsh streets of Riddleport, and in that time her powers appeared. She ran with a street gang for much of that time, gaining the street name of Shade. She acted as a support to the gang leader, but the gang collapsed on the death of him. She was rather paranoid by this time, so Nel slipped away and hid as the fight for leadership destroyed the gang, trusting no one.
Nel looked at her life, and decided it was time for something different. The life of an adventurer was the ticket. She saw them from time to time, spending gold, losing gold, but the point was they always came back with gold. All she had to look forward to otherwise was a knife in the back. And then there was that blot in the sky. Interesting. Also there was the business of her master. It would be nice to get payback on him. If she could find him.
But for now she needed work. Looking around she heard that Saul Vacasterkin was hiring after his purchase of the Gold Goblin. Maybe he could use a sneaky Mage. With that she could save up and leave. Or maybe she will meet someone she could trust. Maybe.
Personality: Nel is a Halfling who has brought herself up on the streets pretty much by herself. She wants friends, people to trust but to date she has been disappointed. She is hopeful, but always looks at the chance of betrayal. Tends to worship both Callistra and Cayden Caileyan, depending on her mood.
Looks: A Halfling with black eyes and pale, slightly grey skin. She likes dim, cool colours. When she smiles (a rare event) it seems a change comes over her and she lights up.

Timmy looks around in great confusion, not able to identify the source of the mind meddling. Not having met any real magic users in his life it sort of scares him.
"Wha.. what?"
He looks around and suddenly someone invites him to sit at the table he is standing on. He looks around once more and decides to sit.
"Nothing is better than testing your powers against others. The larger the better! Although not too big. Had some bad experience with that, and none too good! Since I came to the upper world I found many challenges! The dark hides many a great creature, but up here! Here are the real big ones!"
He starts a whole flood of experiences with monsters he met during his days. Also listening to Gramlag's stories. Forgetting the mind meddling threat from earlier.

I had to change some things due to internal conflict between Lore mistery and Ancient Lorekeeper archetype (re: class skills). Anyway, meet Dee.

If she'll be chosen I'll add the equipment info.

Nel made a quiet pass with her hands and spoke quietly. A small blob of darkness appear on her hands, and she played with it, making dance over her fingers. Aĺl the while she watched the room.

The older man looks over at the halfling girl playing with darkness and looks at her in deep concentration for a few seconds. He pats Iorisdlon on the shoulder then walks over to the girl, giving her a hard look.

"All this.."He motions up with his finger and sweeps it around. "All this darkness in the city ain't yer doin, is it?"

Alright, I adapted a character to work with a second darkness campaign. (In the original character to story she found a a strange key she didn't put there instead of own old research notes on the Cypher Gate, but that's the only change.)

The name of the main account is Feuerrabe.

She's a true neutral female human (Chelaxian) wizard (evoker). As for your concerns regarding alignment, I did extend the original description of her personality to hopefully thwart concerns regarding her alignment. The idea that she has a tendency towards good is not new, but I wasn't sure whether the background story communicated it well enough.

Part of the character design is I invested a bit more into physical attributes, particularly strength, than necessary for a wizard. That is because I found it fitting for her to believe that physical and mental discipline go hand in hand.

I might change her equipment a bit, see whether I can effort to by a scroll to learn a spell from.

I should notice that I have participated in a different Second Darkness campaign before which came to an abrupt halt very early. So I might know some things about the earliest stages, but I will of course hold back and not spoil the experience. I hope this won't be a problem.

http://paizo.com/campaigns/LeinathansSecondDarkness/gameplay (as Lluvia)

(Side note, since the wording of adjectives and persons from Cheliax does not always seem conclusive, I tried to mimic the use in the Inner Sea World Guide:
Name of the nation: Cheliax
A person from Cheliax: Chelaxian (not Cheliaxan)
Adjective: Chelish, when referring to a person Chelaxian is also a possibility, i.e. "A Chelish woman" and "A Chelaxian woman" is both correct, but the prior is better)

gunna say devana i like the concept of a wizzard that has a reason to build physical stats, your right in that from a game perspecticve it looks odd but i like how organic it is. props

update done

Pretty nifty, Devanna!

Thanks!

*precise and and well timed, alas somewhat cold curtsey from Devana*

Applications seemed to have slowed down and I see a lot of potential candidates. Therefore I am going to move up the closing date for recruitment to this coming Tuesday at midnight.

If you've yet to receive a pm from me, expect to have it in your inbox by tomorrow morning.

Sounds good, Tuyena. Best of luck to all, and hopefully we see more postings before close!

I'll have my application up tomorrow. I'm going over some things with my concept that I'm not happy about.

One problem with me is I'm incredibly slow to make characters at times because I revise the concept endlessly >.<

I noticed your earlier discussion about revering deities (or in this case an Empyreal Lord) which are more than one step removed from your alignment and consequently removed references to Falayna (LG Archon) from the background.

I've still listed Desna and Falayna as entities that she "likes" and consequently prays to every now and then, but Nethys is and remains her patron deity.

Well, MagusJanus, here's wishing you luck with your character! It'll be interesting to see all the end results.

Additional Flavor:

He'll tell you that he grew up among the orcs in Belzken, but his manners seem to belie that. Generally, his hood is covering his face, and his visage is not at all pleasant to look at with multiple scars, and the seeming misplacement of his eyes and nose.

Gilbert was born near the Worldwound. His father a cleric and his mother a paladin. Something of the Worldwound must have affected his birth, for his face is misshapen. Both parents were ashamed of his odd looks and the unhelpful comments of others. So, they left the crusade and moved to the border of Belzken in order to provide a safer environment for their son and, possibly to understand why this had happened to them.

Gilbert was a hardy child, but did not take to much of the religiosity of his parents. Instead he learned from an order of monks how to move and how to defend himself. He liked how they were accepting of his handicap and really tried to embrace their philosophy. Still, not as wise as the other adepts, he chose an unusual path, but one that was known of around Belzken, that of the Luchidore.

Broghu! Argrarogruh! "Balthazar waves his mug around wildly, clearly already intoxicated after only one drink."

Shade watches the easy drunk with amused interest. As she does so she sips her drink, her little pet shadow dancing around her fingers
you might want to go easy on the drink, friend. Drunks get rolled around here.

My sheet is edited too

(Balthazar stops flailing around and looks intensely at Nel, all traces of intoxication now suddenly gone and replaced with a very serious face) Gruntgr ohoh ughuga. Go hora grub grunto ohoh!

Nel hears a voice in her mind
Don't underestimate me dark one. You can't comprehend what I have seen. So don't roll me in with the common drunkards!... (There is a slight pause, then Balthazar turns slowly back to the bar)
Thank you for your concern.
The voice in Nel's head says quietly.

I swear this happens every single time I try to make a character like this...

Character will be posted tomorrow due to family intrusion. I've only got half the backstory done.
