Iorisdlon Myrtheril was born in Kyonin as the successor to a long line of Elven wizards. He began his training in the arcane arts at an early age.
It wasn't long (by Elf standards) before the pressure to become a master of mystic mysteries overwhelmed him. So, Iorisdlon did what any self respecting elf would do. He ran away. To particularize he ran off to Erages where he hoped in short order to become a smuggler and leave the life of magic behind.
Iorisdlon stayed in Erages a few years, honing his skills, and had it not been for a few close calls he might have stayed there and achieved some notoriety as a minor criminal. However, since risky business is rarely safe close calls did come and eventual the thought of being a smuggler soured. Magic, on the other hand, no longer seemed as bitter a draught. His arcane talents saved him more than once and he found himself returning to his studies despite himself.
In the months before Iorisdlon moved on from Erages he received a message from his family, which if it did not quite apologize for pushing him too hard, at least it spoke tenderly enough to more Iorisdlon to forgiveness. His return message reaffirmed his familial love, but also contained an oath that he would not return until he had become the successor worthy of his heritage.
Iorisdlon picked Riddleport the location to complete his training. He heard about the city from one of his contacts, and learned that the Order of Cyphers maintained an impressive library there.
On the long journey Iorisdlon met Ors, who Iorisdlon immediately recognized as being a disagreeable fellow. Ors did not have an especially high opinion smugglers and seemed to think that having the vast arcane power required to remake the world as one saw fit did not also confer the right to remake the world as one saw fit. Despite these differences Iorisdlon still saw Ors as an intelligent conversation partner (for a human at least). And although Ors did not have a talent for magic, he still struck Iorisdlon as a force, as if he himself were somehow magical. Even in such a brief time Ors impacted Iorisdlon and concurrently Ors became the first human Iorisdlon considered a friend.
The journey to Riddleport was nearly over when they reached Ableton. The ruler of this hamlet was being manipulated by a quasit. Ors, outraged by the oppression the peasantry faced, but realizing he could not single-handedly overthrow the civic authority, turned to Iorisdlon for help. Iorisdlon did not consider it any business of his, but seeing the passion for justice burning in Ors's irises, decided to play the hero.
After driving out the dark influence and taking Ableton's Baron into custody, the two finally arrived at Riddleport. And while Iorisdlon took to the city like a fish to water, Ors couldn't stand it. The very atmosphere made his skin crawl. Iorisdlon tried in vain to keep him in town, but eventually gave up, seeing that his friend could not be happy in this place.
Iorisdlon turned again to his studies in an effort to drowned his loneliness. Soon he became fixture of the town. He would write just enough scrolls to feed himself and pay for his frequent visits to the Cyphers's library. These visits were a vice for him and he often spent whatever he did not need for immediate survival on accessing the library.
And so he stayed in Riddleport for the next 20 years, studying and writing essays hoping to impress the Order of Cyphers and gain membership.
