Nel was born in a small farming community, and she soon showed capability with magic. She never received much training, and so became a spontaneous caster. A sorcerer. She found that she was rather attuned to shadows, and this had the effect of her being ostracised. when she became an adult, she left to find her fortune in the capital. There she soon fell into bad companions, the local thieves guild, who found her powers useful. After a raid by the town guard, she was captured. As she was not directly accused of any crime (beyond association) so she was conscripted to the kings task. This would remove her from the kingdom, and make her useful. So she was sent.
