Did anything happen to the dagger Jackun threw? Oh and Caitlyn wouldn't think to ask this but would knowing the school's of magic in play here be useful?
I missed the dagger throw.
Jakun tossed a dagger into the bubble. It struck the silvery edge and for just an instant the dragon and dwarf came back to life. The dwarf roared as his axe touched the dragon's chest. The dragon snarled as its jaws came closed about his neck, the teeth just touching before they both froze again. The dagger hung in the air, just inches inside the field.
He thinks that a larger disruption would probably shatter the spell completely.

Jakun Stormhoof |

Jakun turns to his companions, "Hmmm. It seems that perhaps a rope around the dwarf would be prudent...
We must be cautious for these foes are in heated battle and their blood is up, they may not initially react well to us".

Loren uth Brasel |

When the stasis field is disrupted, Loren's hand snaps to his blade while he sidesteps to interpose himself between Mariel and the frozen-then-moving tableau. When it freezes just as suddenly as it went into motion, he is nearly frozen himself in awe. "What in the name of all that is holy...," he half-whispers. "I... Uh... Jakun, you know more of magic than me, but if the dagger did that, would not trying to put rope in there be just as disruptive?" Corij, guide us...
Does anyone have Detect Evil? Mittens? If so, maybe that would work through the stasis? If the dwarf is evil, it helps us pick sides (though I doubt it will be that simple). We could blast a spell at the dwarf's axe? Another thought is to spam the heck out of channel positive energy and hope to offset any fatal wounds they inflict on each other, then deal with what follows.

Caitlyn Weissman |

The Dwarf may or may not be evil, but that's a Brass Dragon.
Caitlyn gives Loren a sharp look, "Yes he's right. There's only one way to do this, I'm bigger than that dwarf and much faster!"
She suddenly flexes her neck causing it to crack and she sets her jaw. And then she's sprinting, wind in her hair, going flat out towards the Dwarf! In the end it was a simple matter of momentum, he might weigh half as much again, but she was going very fast.
Rage, Charge, Bull rush: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 14 + 2 = 29 The intent is to knock the dwarf aside so the swing fails, and presumably any plan for what happens next won't survive the engagement.

Jakun Stormhoof |

Jakun shakes his head, "Metal not cloth will disrupt the field. At least that's what I suspect". He shrugs clearly not entirely sure but he begins to pull rope from his backpack nonetheless.

Loren uth Brasel |

If given an opportunity, Loren can use a blessing (War Mind)to give Caitlyn a +10 on her land speed. (Every little bit helps?)

Jakun Stormhoof |

Assuming Mittens shares...
"Caitlyn, if the dwarf is evil then we should let the Dragon finish what it started! In fact, perhaps we can use the rope to disarm the dwarf?"

Jakun Stormhoof |

She could disarm him instead, that manoeuvre roll was pretty good.
Unless stepping in the bubble freezes you in time as well but if you are wearing metal armor and you are certainly wielding a metal weapon I guess it'd disrupt that field... I say go for it!

Loren uth Brasel |

Seems like we're committed to this. So, after blessing Caitlyn with War Mind for a +10 to her speed, Loren is going to ready an action to cast Shield Other on the dragon the second the field disrupts.... No, I won't. Apparently the target of the spell needs to be wearing a platinum ring.
So, if I can't do that... Loren will try to rush in behind Caitlyn (or next to her) and use Saving Shield feat. Mechanically, it is an immediate action that grants an ally a +2 to their AC. Maybe Mariel can position herself where she can channel positive energy to heal the dragon but not the dwarf?

Jakun Stormhoof |

As the Companions commit to this course of action, Jakun casts Haste upon his allies to aid them in coming to a hopefully positive outcome.
A hasted creature gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. Any condition that makes you lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also makes you lose dodge bonuses.
All of the hasted creature’s modes of movement (including land movement, burrow, climb, fly, and swim) increase by 30 feet, to a maximum of twice the subject’s normal speed using that form of movement. This increase counts as an enhancement bonus, and it affects the creature’s jumping distance as normal for increased speed. Multiple haste effects don’t stack. Haste dispels and counters slow.

Thistletorp darted into the spell-field, outpacing Caitlyn's longer strides courtesy of quick reflexes and fearless disposition. He passed the translucent, silvery frontier and began to slow even as the dragon and dwarf quickened again and swirling eddies of magic played across its surface like oil on water.
Then Caitlyn reached the edge of the effect, barely two breaths later and with Loren right behind. The spell gave way in a shower of prismatic light. She hit the dwarf hard in the side, feeling the dragon's breath burning at her neck and stinging her eyes, nose, and throat. A second jolt struck her as the dwarf's axe pulled free of the dragon's body, then an acrid rush filled the air as the dragon's breath descended fully upon the now-empty floor so near that droplets sizzled upon her boots.
With the fading spell still dancing in the air, Jakun spoke an incantation. Magical speed flushed through the Companions' limbs and the prismatic lights flared bright. Angles twisted strangely where the fading magic and the rising met. With a hard jerk, Caitlyn felt her momentum reversed and she and the dwarf repeated their course exactly in reverse as the dragon drew its maw back up and acid raced back down its gullet.
For one terrible instant, she stood frozen with the dwarf beneath the dragon's open mouth. Within she could see the burning bile retreat, then begin to rise again as the river of time resumed its course. All the companions then felt as if they'd struck something unseen and massive, an invisible force that painfully jolted them bone deep.
Between breaths, the dwarf's beard turned from black to gray to white and then fell from his chin as his skin wrinkled, shrank, dried. His eyes rotted to nothing and body went limp, axe and armor falling from a suddenly emaciated corpse that collapsed a moment later, showering Caitlyn with a grave dust.
The dragon jolted too, thrown physically back. The wound the dwarf had cut in its scales swelled and all the brass scales turned dull. Its blazing eyes flashed to a milky white and it sagged to the ground, barely breathing.

Loren uth Brasel |

When asked about it later, Loren would admit to being utterly bewildered and not having any clue as to what was going on. Years of training in the Solamnic Order had imbued him with a deep distrust of all things magical... and even less understanding. But, he did know the dragon had collapsed, apparently of a grievous wound, despite their efforts. Yet it appeared to still be breathing, if only barely.
Dropping to his knees and letting his sword and shield clatter to the ground, he clasps the medallion of faith and places another hand on the dragon's scales. "Please, Corij, if it be your will, let us aid your Father's servant."

Jakun believes that his haste spell became caught in the energies of the collapsing stasis magic, briefly re-energizing it and then bringing down the weight of suspended time upon those within. For Thistletorp, less than a second passed. The dwarf and dragon felt the crash of at least centuries before the magic faded.

Samnell |

Mariel, Thistletorp, and Loren all clustered about the maimed dragon. Its now thin, withered scales looked almost ready to fall away. Its eyes gazed blankly outward. Healing closed the great wound upon its chest but did nothing for the weight of years.
It spoke in a labored, slow voice.

Loren uth Brasel |

Were it not for years of training and the monstrosities he'd seen since coming to the continent, Loren might well have slipped into a shocked stupor at all of this. Angry spirits, ancient magics, and now a live dragon talking in a dead language. But instead he saw a warrior (a most impressive one) fading from his wounds.
Quickly, he says to Mariel,
With only a brief pause as he tries to recall the languages drilled into him to train his mind as his body, he turns back to the dragon and presses softly with a reassuring hand:
After the dragon's utterance, Loren wasn't sure it wise to note there was a wizard in their midst.

Loren uth Brasel |

We went over this when I generated the character. But, as then, I remain happy to remove it if the GM wants.

Caitlyn Weissman |

"Woaaah!" Caitlyn cried when the dwarf crumbled to dust and even the dragon aged visibly in front of them. Events beyond her ken were at foot and it frightened her!

Jakun Stormhoof |

Jakun responds,
I assume that we have it as Samnell never banned it so let's just roll as if we do have it.

Samnell |

Like I said way back, Draconic is studied as a dead language. Maybe it's in the books somewhere that it's meant to be secret, but I don't see the sense of making a big deal of the situation.
Jakun responds, ** spoiler omitted **
I assume that we have it as Samnell never banned it so let's just roll as if we do have it.
"And why...do you both speak so...strangely?"
Mariel believes that Blaize's maladies are the results of greatly advanced age. How he's not also grown to great size as an ancient dragon should, she doesn't understand at all.

Loren uth Brasel |

Loren blanches slightly at the dragon's words and he glances at Jakun wide-eyed, almost accusingly but also with some anxiety.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 -- 7th level and only +10? Boy, I did not optimize this character particularly well. Oh well!

Jakun Stormhoof |

Jakun narrows his eyes, Can the Dragon smell the presence of this ancient one upon me, cloying like a rotten parasite?
Jakun speaks once more,
You are the first of the Dragons that were said to have served Paladine that we have seen evidence of.
We could certainly use your assistance in many ways now that we have freed you of these magics.
The first is finding one who fell here at the same time that you were trapped. He has been dubbed, the "Fallen Prince" and he once wielded a Hamer I suspect to be magical. Can you tell us his true name or where he may have fallen in this place? We believe this Hammer may be the key to getting the survivors of these Dragon attacks within the ancient mountain stronghold of Thorbardin
I am Jakun Stormhoof, a Minotaur from the Isle of Kothas and a Red Robed Wizard. Perhaps it is my magics you smell. Mariel is a Revered Daughter of Paladine as we have once more found the Gods of Light in this time of darkness, Thistle is a Kender Handler, Caitlyn a warrior woman of Solace, and Sir Loren a Knight of Solamnia.
Now you know us as well as we know you. We stand ready to assist you in getting well if you can assist us we would appreciate it as hope fades from the world as fast as the Dark Queens' wings can spread".

Loren uth Brasel |

Loren winces slightly as the Minotaur lays it all out for the dragon. Would the deluge of information cause the already disoriented dragon to lash out? Would Jakun's honesty about his heritage and sorcery? The knight prayed not.

Caitlyn Weissman |

Loren and Jackun seemed to be making some very odd noises, which caused Caitlyn to ask rather skeptically, "So you can talk to this thing can you?"

Jakun Stormhoof |

Jakun shrugs and turns back to Caitlyn, "To some extent. His usage is perfect. Ours is a groping stuttering mess. I've never actually tried to speak it before so am just sounding it out..."

Caitlyn Weissman |

"Right. I don't suppose it knows where the other metallic dragons are does it? No? Damn. That's just too bad." replied Caitlyn with a sigh.

Samnell |

Thistletorp rummages through his bags to see if he found anything useful for the dragon
Thistletorp found a vial of a blue liquid with a stopper carved in the shape of a skull. It was almost the same color as Jakun's spellbook.
Blaize listened to Loren, Jakun, and Mariel. From his expression, they could tell he occasionally struggled to follow them. He did better with Mariel's elvish than with their Draconic and switched to that tongue.
"A Red Robe?" he said with clear distaste. "Revered Daughter, is this minotaur to be trusted? He does not walk in the light of Solinari!"

Thistletorp Babblebrook |

Thistletorp pulls out a vial filled with a blue liquid and with a skull shaped stopper. Jakun! Look! This has the same color as your spellbook! And, I found it in my pockets when I was trying to find something useful! This has to be a sign! it's got be lukcy! "
He hands the vial to Jakun to look at and then hugs the dragon. Elf words flow off his tongue in a torrent, as fast as he normally speaks Don't worry, Blaize! We're gonna do everything we can to help you! Then, we'll stop those evil cabbages that hurt you! We've seen lots of dragons.. A red one that was trying to eat children and thought they were her kids. And, a black one that flew over our heads! Whooosh! They were fun, but dangerous and tried to hurt us! You're shiny and nice! You're a good dragon! And we're going to try to help you!"
He hugged the dragon again.

Jakun Stormhoof |

Jakun takes the vial from Thistle, "Thank you Thistle..." He casts a spell to inspect the magic laid thereon.
Detect Magic on the Potion.

Mariel Uth Kaldar |

In elvish Yes noble one. Though he does not walk in the light of Solinari he is a firm enemy againt the Dragon Queen.
In common I think we might want to rest here for the evening so that in the morning Paladine can return sight to his dragon through my intercession she states.

Caitlyn Weissman |

Caitlyn was most surprised, "Oh it, well ahem you..." Now she was embarrassed, she hadn't meant to be rude, "You speak Qualanesti!" That took a couple of moments to sink in before she recovered her wits and asked, "We have seen many chromatic dragons, fought some too. You're the first metallic dragon we've seen... There's more than just you right?"

Blaize took in what Mariel, Caitlyn, and Thistletorp said. He gently brushed the kender's topknot with his head, affectionately.
"If you vouch for the wizard then I will not slay him," the dragon said. "But I know what I smell. An infection like his might rise up at any moment. You would do well to watch him."
"And yes...there are many more of my kind."
