Game Master CaptainMarvelous

For ten years I have been polishing this sword;
Its frosty edge has never been put to the test.
Now I am holding it and showing it to you, sir:
Is there anyone suffering from injustice?

As soon as he begins to inspect the room, Zhang Yong gets the sense that there is someone behind the wall. Someone very skilled at stealth, Zhang Yong would never have noticed him if Yong hadn't been looking for him.

Zhang Yong estimates he could easily punch through the wall and seize whoever it is, if he can do it fast enough to catch him. He moves nonchalantly towards the wall.

OK here's what I'm going to do: Since this is more of a reflex thing, at the most opportune moment, I'm going to use a Qi point to maximize my speed, my new Stunning Palm (Budhidharma Palm) attack to punch through the wall and hit the man (doing non-lethal damage) and drag him back through. What do I need to roll to accomplish this?

No sweat.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Zhang Yong lashes out and, even through the wall, is able to precisely strike a key yuedao point on the kid, sealing it. He slumps over the hole Yong just smashed into the wall.

Of course, none of you knew this would happen. One second Zhang Yong got up to check the room out, the next he's pulling out spies.

It looks like that kid is the servant from before, the one who Sun Wuji sent off to "prepare" rooms for you.

Flying Sword unsheathed Black Metal Blade in a flash at the sound of commotion from where Zhang was in the adjoining room and moved to see what was going on.

”Looks like you caught a rat!” Ji says. Her sword is out and she looks around the room, suspicious that more men might be listening. Since there isn’t any other sounds so far as she can tell, she turns to address the man.

”I doubt this was your idea. Who sent you? Was it Sun Wuji? What information were you trying to discover?” She sheathes her sword, attempting to convey that she means the kid no harm. ”Perhaps we could help each other out. Let’s see what my brothers think.”

Calmly sheathing Black Metal Blade, Flying Sword frowned at the discovery of a spy.

I will withhold judgment until after this young man explains himself.

Holding the boy off the ground, Yong merely looks into the boy's eyes and says, "Speak now."

Bluff (make the kid think 'he's gonna get it' if he doesn't start yapping): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30

The boy simply stares back at you, as though deciding whether to speak.

"Ah. I eh, had been preparing the room for you and was attempting to leave by the secret servant's exit when I saw you come in..."

He's lying.

Menacingly, he pulls the kid real close, almost nose to nose. Looking him right in the eye, Yong says, "Try again."

Flying Sword had full faith in Brother Zhang capabilities in handling the youth so he strode through the other rooms looking for signs of any more spies.

Ji laughs at the boy’s clear lie. ”Let me look in here,” she calls out. Slipping into the hole in the wall, she examines the narrow passage then follows it to determine which other rooms it visits.

"Yes, yes, I admit, I was sent by Grandmaster Sun Wuji to discover what plot the Wudang were attempting to hatch. I won't betray your rebellion, no, no, I could be a double agent. Feed the Kunlun whatever misinformation you want..."

Flying Sword detects no signs of additional spies.

Slipping inside Ji finds an entire network of extremely small passageways. It would likely take days to explore it all, but it seems to connect to every section of the building.

Realizing she didn’t have nearly the time needed to explore the narrow passages, Ji returned to the drama unfolding between Yong and the boy. Standing with her back to the hole in the wall, Ji asked, ”Remind me, how does the Kunlun reward failure?”

M Human Shaolin 12 | AC 24 | HP 84 | F +5, R +10, W +11

"Normally very slowly, over several hours, so that the 'reward' is not so easily forgotten. At least that is, for the first failure. The second time, they will normally mount the head on a pike and call it a day." Yong looks at the boy while saying this, talking in a bored tone and manner, as if he had been on the giving end of the 'reward' many times over the years.

The boy's face pales.

The kid is clearly terrified of all of you.

Satisfied that his patrol of their rooms was thorough and finding nothing more of suspect, the man knowns as Flying Sword returned to where they were questioning the spy.

The warrior frowned at the boy's mention of a 'Wudang plot' and 'rebellion'.

Are you saying the Sun Wuji does not believe our request for aid is truthful?

Flywing Sword was an honorable man and was now wondering if they would be able to leave Mount Kunlun without bloodshed.

Ji waits for the boy to answer Flying Sword then asks, ”And what do you mean rebellion? What exactly do you think you heard?” Her demeanor is calm and patient, yet hinting puzzlement.

The boy seems genuinely surprised at this.

"It.. I.. Of course.. You really came here for healing?"

Quote:
”And what do you mean rebellion? What exactly do you think you heard?”

"Ah, no, I spoke too rashly. I jumped to conclusions. I have heard nothing of importance, only vague implications. Nothing incriminating."

It only takes a look to loosen his tongue.

"Ah.. You spoke of a society and being 'turned in'. We of Mount Kunlun are not unfamiliar with the machinations of secret societies, and what authority beyond ourselves would the Kunlun appeal to besides the Emperor?"

He forces an incredibly nervous laugh.

"But I speak foolishness. Who would believe the wild fancies of a lowly servant boy?"

Ming Yue, who had been sitting silently through the entire interrogation, stands.

"I have heard enough," she says, and draws her sword "If you are familiar with secret societies then you know what we do with spies. Cover his mouth."

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

'Wait.'

Flying Sword softly spoke with an outstretched arm in front of Ming Yue. There seemed to be more to this boy's story than he was letting on and the Wudang warrior would not condone the killing of a child no matter the crime... although this boy is crafty with his words... a duelist of verse then...

Everyone listens to 'foolishness' when it fancies them,' He left unspoken that most listened to such drivel when it fueled their own personal paranoia...such is Ego...

Warning Ming Yue with a steely glance, Flying Sword dropped his arm and beckoned to the Emperor in disguise.

'Mister Li, would be so kind as to show this young man why we have come seeking the Kunlun's aid in healing? Since it is apparent that they do not trust their own eyes in regards to your obvious injuries.'

Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Such a breach of decorum was not lost on the swordsman and he would beg his Imperial Majesty's forgiveness when it wouldnt be overheard by Kunlun spies but it would throw the Kunlun off from believing that Mr Li was anyone important. Yet, the one statement by the boy almost made Flying Sword think that they should share the Emporer's identity with Sun Wuji... almost...

Quote:

Ming Yue stops at the gesture but, speaking more to the boy than Flying Sword, she says "If he calls out I will gut him without hesitation."

The emperor smiles widely at Flying Sword's plan, and that displays his gruesome injuries well enough. He stands and moves close so the boy can see clearly his lack of a tongue, not to mention the ruin of his lower face.

The boy is shocked, but still confused. You can see the gears turning in his mind, but he's obviously frightened of you all and worried of causing offense with his words.

"I... obviously my master misjudged your intent. I can only beg forgiveness; would the Wudang have been any less suspicious if two of our third generation came to Mount Wudang?"

Ji grunts in annoyance at Ming-Yue’s threat but remains calm as Flying Sword handles the situation. ”Suspicious? Perhaps, but do you think we would hide in walls to spy on you? How insulted would your master be if the situation were reversed?”

The young woman stares into his eyes. ”I was injured by the demon. If you could see qi you’d be able to tell.”

Is there a game like wéiqí in the world? Does the Emperor play it? Also can the damage wall be repaired using Mending?

Yes to all three, and it's just weiqi.

Patience with the boy wearing thin, Flying Sword chopped a dismissive hand. "Enough. We do not need to explain ourselves any further to this spy. You can take us at our word or not. Go report to your master what you will. If Sun Wuji has more questions for us then he can ask them himself. Now go."

With those words, I drop the kid on the ground and glare at him. Hopefully, he gets the hint.

”Well, you heard him,” Ji says with a laugh. ”I can fix the wall if you want to keep this incident quiet. In time we’ll learn your decision. Farewell.”
