Most NPC commoners don't have spellcraft, would be my guess. And maybe he has a few feats to mask this component or that.
Could be an item come to think of it, ring of spell storing or the like
The inner voice within your ear
Spellcraft identifies WHICH spell is being cast. In a world with as much magic as Golarion, casting itself is still fairly obvious even to the layman if you aren't using magic items or metamagic feats.
It just seems such a waste to invest in Silent Spell, Still Spell, and Eschew Materials to be able to do that, only to have an NPC seemingly pull off his own stealth casting without anything of the sort.
He does enhance his performances with prestidigitation and ghosts sounds. Maybe they thought it was more of that?
The inner voice within your ear
Just be careful with how much power you give those spells. They are low level for a reason.
But far be it from me to get in the way of imagination and good story telling.
Carry on. :D
I thought it seemed to be stretching things as well. But it was in the adventure path. So then I had to come up with a bunch of other things he's doing in order to make it work. These writers give me a lot of holes to fill.

It occurred to me that we might be going about this the wrong way.
What do you think would happen if we invited that bard to attend a council meeting, so as to better observe how we do things? Or possibly even join the council of rulers itself?
If he proves to be an honest man, and really does hold the peoples' best interests at heart, he may prove to be a valuable ally when it comes to gaining the trust of the rest of the population.
Male Human Bard 4
but if he isn't, he'll get an inner look at how our city is run and have even more info to use against us. that goes double for if he really is a spy.
The inner voice within your ear
(That's why we investigate and vet him first--as we should for all council candidates anyways.)
Male Elf Paladin-3
Adular isn't likely to let a guy who is hellbent on sabatoge join the council, ever. Add to that the insults... and no
Male Elf Paladin-3
Mmm Quote: In fact I bet the werewolf attacks were caused by them stirring up the wildlife." sounded a lot like a lie to me though I'm sure he'd say it was just an 'opinion'
Male Orc Expert 5
One day Rory will just let Mal and Adular welcome someone into the old utraviolence.
Male Orc Expert 5
Someone should mention that every cow fed to her is one less person she'll kill maim or torture.
Male Orc Expert 5
Also sorry for the triple post but it occur to some that afte rthe prisoner this has become somewhat personal to the generally laid back Mall.
Have any of you ever watched the tv series "yes minister"?

TarkXT wrote: Someone should mention that every cow fed to her is one less person she'll kill maim or torture. Yes. Please do mention that.
Male Human Bard 4
@ Dm - never heard of it.
@ tark and raving - I'll do it next chance i get.
Male Human Bard 4
Just as a heads up guys, but I'm going to be busy tomorrow and maybe saturday aswell moving into my new place.
The inner voice within your ear
Good luck with the move! (Seems like a lot of my friends are doing that lately.)
:)
If he is all about "openness of government" then maybe we should invite him to a meeting?
Was it me or did he just claim he knew nothing of our friend's demise, even though he was spouting about it publicly the other day?
Male Elf Paladin-3
I'm not sure why we aren't arresting him for casting charm spells on people
Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach
Arrest him? He wasn't going to be in any shape to be arrested after MAll was done with him. Maybe spend a few months in the infirmary.
Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach
With the king watching?
That would be dumb. He could at least trust in Adular's religion to embrace the concept of a solid putting in of the boot where its necessary and he's already mentioned the idea once or twice. Getting your ehad kicked in by the local high priest of Gorum? Sounds like attempted suicide if you didn't clear out of the bar at the sight of him. But having Rory there complicates matters.
Now, Mall can't keep it relatively personal, seeing as messing in peoples heads with magic and making them throw themselves before swords pushes all the wrong buttons to a formerly mind-f%@#ed and very much magically distrustful mall.
So distrustful in fact that his graying and frayed cloak (formerly black) still possesses a very faded outline of the Order of the Pyre.
Also, that being said he never actually said anything about the spy sent. Only about the dragon. Combing over the posts that much is true.
So what are you going to do with him?
Male Orc Expert 5
So. I lost my temper. The result is a broken lcd screen on my laptop. Incidentally this is where a great deal of important things are held.
So now I have to scramble to get the money together to get a replacement screen. So, obviously things are going to slow down as the only way I can post is at the beneficence of my girlfriend.
Male Human Bard 4
fun fun. Good luck getting a new screen soon.
I'm in somewhat the same boat. My hard drive kaputt. But I am fairly good at finding computers to use.
Do you guys want me to skim over this bard event? It seems to be stalling the game.
Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8
Male Elf Paladin-3
Well, I'd like to see the little snot behind bars and questioned, but his apparent ability to vanish without a trace or way to find him is truly frustrating, not just to the characters, but the players imo. So if you want to skim over it, go ahead.
Male Human Bard 4
I think we can establish that we'll catch him again and put him on trial since Rory's hellbent on having him exposed to the public he's wound around his fingers. I dunno if there's any rolls or whatever for that but I think we can agree that this is what's going to happen.
The inner voice within your ear
Any chance I could restat Riva as an arcanist? I feel it would better fit the original concept I've always had of her (that of a wizard who can cast spells spontaneously). I was even planning on taking the Versatile Spontaneity feat and having a spellbook, which is why I've been buying up spell scrolls as they appear in the kingdom, but I feel the newly released arcanist class would represent her much better.
The inner voice within your ear
Here's what she would look like if you allow for it: [LINK]
Seems good.
Anyone else what to do a character redesign?
Male Orc Expert 5
Anything I'd do would be a downgrade from how awesome he is.
Male Orc Expert 5
On that note my computer is functioning for now so I'll start posting again.
I assume you are going to want me to skip ahead to the trial. How do you want it set up?
Male Human Bard 4
Skald maybe? But it doesn't fit with Rory's upbringing. I'd still need him to be charismatic.
@ Tark - I really love the bloodrager but i understand not wanting to trade out that DR.
Male Orc Expert 5
More to the point why?
Bloodragers, and by extension sorcerers, sound like the origin story for the X-Men. That does not click with Mallichatti at all. Mallichatti isn't a mean as f&*% because he was born into it. He's mean because he was a very large man who dealt with some horrible horrible magical things inflicted on him by some very bad men. Those men are,for the most part, dead as dirt.
Gregori is a very lucky man to have been caught by the legal system. Mallichatti justice is the swift and painful sort.
Male Human Bard 4
I dunno, it just seems cool to me. Playing a bard is different for me. I usually play barbs and fighters, and other classes that hit things with big weapons. Bloodrager fits that and seems to be a fun twist to a classic barbarian and wanna try it out.

I'm thinking closed trial with only a handful of citizens whom the people trust. They can testify to the public at large that we did indeed give a fair trial, without letting the defendant work a large crowd to his favor in a court room.
Male Elf Paladin-3
Well, during the trial Adular will be using zone of truth spells and the like to help.
I'll stick with cleric
If you are going to punish him for breaching procedure you might want to say what the procedure is. As far as I can tell this is the first trial this nation has had.

Powergaming DM wrote: If you are going to punish him for breaching procedure you might want to say what the procedure is. As far as I can tell this is the first trial this nation has had. Procedure will be similar to that of a real-world American trial, where people are called upon to bear witness and present evidence, each speaking in turn. Outbursts such as the one we just had shall be curtailed.
I think it would be easiest to roleplay it out in this manner, as I suspect most of us are most familiar with this format, even if its only of the most obvious surface elements often shown on TV.
Male Human Bard 4
most i know is just jokes about law and order...
The inner voice within your ear
Great, you get to start as prosecution then I guess, Rory.
Suppose I'll act as judge, unless the GM had an NPC character in mind already (in which case I'll be one of the bailiffs, making sure everyone is behaving).
Rory being the judge would seem to make more sense him being king and all, but it's your courtroom. You can assign the rules and roles as you want.
Male Human Bard 4
judge does make more sense. Unless we're not doing a jury because then Rory would be biased since he really doesn't like Grigori.
Ravingdork says it's set up like an TV american court system. So I think that means a jury. There are 15 of them
The inner voice within your ear
Just remember though, it's a closed trial, which means there will be few if any people in the stands. Just the essential personnel required to run the trial itself.
