Our heroes check the next door then convinced it is safe they move on
This musty chamber smells of blood and week-old
meat, and is thick with clouds of fat, greasy flies.
Thumb-sized cockroaches dance along the walls,
floor, and ceiling. A thick butcher's block sits under
three cruel-looking cleavers that hang on a rack
above. Bloodstained smocks of thick leather, one
still dripping fresh gore, hang on bone-spur hooks
by the door. A crockery platter of severed fingers
and toes sits on a rickety old table next to a dried
sinew basket overflowing with hacked-off hands
and feet, all sporting stubs of congealed blood
where their digits once were. A family of lucky rats
gorges itself on the red stumps.
I can not even begin to describe how revolting this room smells. DC 17 Fort or you vomit

This is enough direct evidence, in my opinion, of the un-redeemable nature of Ogres. When we get to the fort we should wipe them all out! No prisoners...

Traveling upstairs into the attack and around finds lots of nasty-ness, most horrifying is a removed face stretched on a pole, obviously being prepped for something horrible

Five flasks of acid are stored under one of
the tables . With 1d10 minutes of scrounging, three full
sets of masterwork thieves' tools can be scavenged from
the gear here.

He looks at the room with disgust and dares not enter so easily.
"I don't like ogres... Why can't they just eat people and be done with it? I could live with that part you know."

Well, now I feel silly about trying to talk to the ogre before. You always hear about these noble exceptions - the brave and valorous goblin saving the world, the noble and wounded drow secretly protecting a far-flung settlement, the mighty and loyal minotaur fighting at the side of the knightly paragon. And what do you get? A ravening monster who lives in filth.
Darin will look around dubiously.
If there were a god of decency he'd smite this place out of principle.
