Popping in. That was a superb piece with Anneka, I loved it! Especially the end.
@Kevin, has Miron had a chance yet to do that investigation about the goblin attack with knowledge (local) that I brought up in a gameplay post? If it hasn't been enough time that's fine, just checking.

...I just spent twenty minutes trying to find this post. I can not find the post of which you speak. Did it get eaten by the site? If not highlight this post to me as if I were a very small child because I can not find it.

*checks when not half asleep*
Well damn. It was a diplomacy check of 20, not knowledge (local). Apologies for my mistake and for wasting time.

Kevin O'Rourke 440 |

The attacks seemed very out of the ordinary, the goblins far more daring than normal. Aside from general terror and discord which is a fine reason for more goblins there seems to be no reason for the assault...except the graveyard which seems far more subtle than anything else going on.
I'll report on the hunt tomorrow and set up the next thing of interest.

![]() |

Thank you. :)
I’ll probably stick to silver though...it gives me a +1 trait bonus to hit. But it will be a good option to upgrade the arms of his comrades

Kevin O'Rourke 440 |

I will let you upgrade it to mithral and keep the bonus for a few reasons. Firstly it overcomes the same damage reduction but you wouldn't get the penalty to damage from alchemical silver with a pretty steep cost. But damage reduction silver will get ignored once you get it up to a +3 weapon anyway which I imagine you'll get it upgraded to at some point.
It's an option but given it's be 6,700gp to upgrade now I do the math maybe you wont...

![]() |

Aye. It's 6,700, and as the hammer is blunt there is no damage penalty for it being silver. So the near 7k would just reduce the weight of the hammer.
Perhaps he could eventually upgrade it to living steel?
As you say, when he has +3 weapon, the DR won't mean anything. And living steel is just cool, as it repairs itself. Probably won't have any game effect, but thematically it would make the weapon into a true heirloom for his clan.

I really like Milgen's idea to train the townsfolk, as it provides the only real plausible way that someone like Anneka, a baker's daughter, would gain any kind of proficiency with that crossbow and spear she's purchased :P.
Another idea would be to re-skin all of her weaponry into bakery tools, like rolling pins, cookie cutters, and oven paddles. Those aren't gauntlets, they're oven mits! Oh I definitely need to stock up on bags of flour.

Miron Vladimirescu |

It's a bit shocking the town has no militia to speak of. That said, the goblins haven't been much of a threat until very recently.
Sandpoint looks like it needs to shape up its defenses and quick!

Race Human
* Silver Tongued (+2 Bluff and Diplomacy)* Bonus Feat (Catch off guard)
Traits
* Surprise Weapon (You gain a +2 trait bonus on attack rolls with improvised weapons.)
* Cunning Liar (You were forced into hiding or willingly went on the run at a young age, and learned to reading others’ interests to inform your lies. You can use your Intelligence or wisdom modifier in place of your Charisma modifier on Bluff checks.)
Feats
Lvl 1: Catch Off Guard (You do not suffer any penalties for using an improvised melee weapon. Unarmed opponents are flat-footed against any attacks you make with an improvised melee weapon.)
Bonus Feat: Improved catch off guard (Foes (even armed foes) are flat-footed against attacks you make with an improvised weapon. At the end of each round as a free action, a foe may make a Sense Motive check opposed by your Bluff check. If the foe’s Sense Motive check is successful, it stops being flat-footed by any improvised weapon attack you make for 24 hours. Your improvised weapon attacks threaten on a natural attack roll of 19 or 20.)
Lvl 1 Snakebite Bralwer
* Full BaB
* D10 HP
* Improved Unarmed Strike (incase you are ever unarmed)
* 1d6 sneak attack damage (The enemy is always flat footed! This means that you will *always* get your sneak attack damage)
* Bluff stands are +8, so you should be beating most NPC sense motives
Lvl 2-5 Unchained Rogue
* +3d6 sneak attack damage, bringing you up to 4d6!
* Debilitating injury
* Dex to Damage with your cooking tools
Lvl 6 Snakebite Brawler
* Two weapon fighting while you use your shield. A straight +1 attack
Lvl 7-10...and beyond Cult Leader Warpriest
* Sacred Weapon (with weapon focus your little rolling pins are now doing much more damage)
* +1d6 sneak attack (5d6!)
* Swift action divine favor (use extra traits feat to get fate's favored for the +1 to all luck bonuses)
----------------------
For 20pt buy...
Str (12) Dex (18) Con (14) Int (10) Wis (15) Cha (7)
Cha7? Whatever will you do...?! The answer is, not cry. The only face skill that *matters* is bluff, and that uses your wisdom. So the trait is giving you +4 to bluff at this point. Well worth the trait. And for diplomacy, you have -2 from Cha, but +2 from silver tongued. So that works out for you. The Cha dump just means that you are horrible with animals (horses are for eating!) and just aren't intimidating at all (she's a chef, what's she going to do? Hit me with a spoon?)
Lvl 1: The build works. With Str12 and probably a d4 damage die, you'll need the sneak attack. But hey...at least the enemy is always flat footed and you'll have +2 to hit! So your modifier will be +4 vs flat footed...pretty good at lvl 1.
Lvl 2: Dex to hit! Suddenly that soup spoon is always thwacking the bad guys on the head when they least expect it.
Lvl 3: Skill Focus Bluff (to make sure that you are always fighting flat footed enemies)
Lvl 4: Dex to damage! I hear that a spoon to the ear can be quite deadly.
Lvl 5: Weapon Focus (for sacred weapon).
Lvl 7: Extra Traits (fate's favored and trustworthy. +1 luck bonuses, and +1 bluff/diplomacy), sacred weapon (1d6 damage soup soon), and class gives another +2 bonus to diplomacy. Cha8 really isn't hurting too much at this point.
Lvl 8: Swift action divine favor
Lvl 9: Skill Focus Bluff (+3 bluff, and come lvl 10 it'll jump up either further. Just to make sure that every foe is flat footed against you)
Now just walk around, casually sneak attack people, while enjoying your 1d8 damage, 19-20 crit range, 5d6 sneak attack damage, spoon. And just to add salt tot he wounds, when you sneak attack the foe? Debilitating injury kicks in, reducing their AC by 2. Which makes your second and third attacks easier to hit!
-----
And with that? You will be the deadliest chef in Golarion. At lvl 10...without anything but a rolling pin, because you got caught in your kitchen. You swift action divine favor and attack...
To Hit vs flat footed: +12/+12/+7 (+2 hit from debilitating after your first hit)
Damage: 1d8+6+5d6
Extra points if after killing the person who interrupted you while cooking you get rid of the body by cooking it.

Weapon Familiarity racial trait. ;) Interestingly, by raw,
the only option to trade it out is to take "shadow hunter." So except for dwarves touched by undeath, even the most mundane of bakers will be proficient in battle axes, heavy picks, warhammers,
dwarven waraxes, and dwarven longhammers. I would put this up towards dwarven settlements needing everyone to be members of a militia, given all of the dangers they face.
Shadowhunter (2 RP): Characters with this trait deal 50% weapon damage to incorporeal creatures when using non-magical weapons (including natural and unarmed attacks), as if using magic weapons. They also gain a +2 bonus on saving throws to remove negative levels, and recover physical ability damage from attacks by undead creatures at a rate of 2 points per ability score per day (rather than the normal 1 point per ability score per day). Dwarves can take this trait in place of weapon familiarity. Source PZO9466
As you state, by RAW, not all dwarves are covered by those traits. So, I'm not sure why you're grinning about raw. RAW says not all dwarves know the difference between a handle and an axe blade. So.. uh.. Milgen's statement was correct.

![]() |

Yes, he was correct. And Drazh acknowledged that. "all dwarves worth their beards." I think I also mentioned shadow hunter in the post.
IC he's angry. A touch dwarf and all that. OOC, everything you said was completely correct.
I realize now that I should have taken the pride drawback...

Milgen |

Just beware that actions have consequences. Milgen was trying to reach out to Drazh IC, and Drazh basically dumped a bucket of offal on him and then spit on him.
Milgen will not be friendly to the dwarf going forward, nor will he have any trust in his judgement. This is not me being an ass OOC, this is me reacting to IC actions. OOC, I understand what you were going for, but it really doesn't help anyone to ICly want to be around Drazh. Logically, as things progress, Drazh should be treated about like Hulk, ignored mostly and pointed at the bad guys and let loose while everyone else does the hard work of solving issues.

![]() |

So...let me get this straight.
(1) Drazh: "Humans are soft. No offense. Every last one of ye should be taught how to wield a weapon for when times go bad."
A poor turn of phrase on his part. But the worst thing he said was calling humans soft. Seeing this, he volunteered to help train a militia.
(2) Milgen: "You would be rather upset if I stated that all dwarves are rude, greedy, dirt loving earthworms, would you not?"
So he responds to calling humans soft, by throwing out racial slurs against dwarves. That is rather...extreme, don't you think?
Milgen follows this up with "Not all humans are soft, and if you think they are, I'll be happy to introduce you to several members of House Loztres who will happily kick your arse up between your ears to prove how soft they are."
In other words, he's threatening Drazh at this point. Saying "take back what you said, or I'll have my friends beat you up."
(3) Drazh takes offense. Shock! Wow! And he calls Milgen out for the things that *he just said*
(4) Milgen, rather than realizing that he took offense and responded in such a way that would cause pretty much anyone to get upset, then says "Just let me know when, I'll take your arse down myself anytime you want. Name the place and time. Otherwise, I'm done with you. Obviously I was mistaken that you might be worth spending my effort with. Go to hell dwarf, whatever bright eyes you might have had when making this mace, it's obvious you've thrown that future away." He takes the mace off his hip and throws it on the floor in front of Drazh. "I'll not use the weapon of a man whose head is so far up his arse he has to take his pants down to eat. This weapon no longer seems worthy of the promise it once held."
Guess what? Milgen is an a$@@~. Who took the word 'soft' and responded with insults, threats...and then when called on it threatens even more physical violence and the most personal insults he can come up with.
And to top it all off...you are saying that Drazh is the one who is acting like the Hulk?
Guess what? Milgen is the *only* one here using racial slurs or making several threats of physical violence.
Or should I have had Drazh apologize when presented with racial slurs and threats of violence? Would have have made you feel f$$~ing better?
Just beware that actions have consequences. Milgen was trying to reach out to Drazh IC, and Drazh basically dumped a bucket of offal on him and then spit on him.
Milgen will not be friendly to the dwarf going forward, nor will he have any trust in his judgement. This is not me being an ass OOC, this is me reacting to IC actions. Yeah. You punched back 1000x harder and now are throwing this shit at me.
Tell me, what exactly do you want to see? And how did you expect this to go?

mdt |

Drazh insulted every human in town.
Milgen pointed out that people say nasty things about dwarves, and lump them all together, and then stated Drazh would get angry if he had done it. He says that if Drazh thinks all humans are soft, he can introduce him to some people who are not, so he can find out for himself, but he'll get his arse kicked if he does. That's not a threat, that's telling him that there are humans who are soft, and some how aren't, and if he doesn't believe it, he can be introduced to some who are. Plenty of humans fight in town for honor duels. Not all duels are to the death, many are to first blood.
The reaching out part was trying to reach out about the militia, and when he did, Drazh started spouting insults and degrading everyone in the town.
Drazh then claims Milgen said he was those things, and starts a fight, and is now pushing to fight Milgen.
As to racial insults, Milgen very carefully said that Drazh would be upset if people said that about dwarves. That's a true statement. It's not my fault you insist on twisting that into Milgen saying that dwarves are greedy whatevers. It's just like someone saying I would be upset if someone denigrated black people by calling them a racial slur, or if someone said I would be upset if someone denigrated white males by saying they all have small members, or any of three dozen other racially charged insults that would upset me personally if someone used them. The fact you insist on portraying that statement as actually being an insult thrown at your character is not my fault. I suggest you look inward on that one.

mdt |

Yeah. You punched back 1000x harder and now are throwing this s!#& at me.
Tell me, what exactly do you want to see? And how did you expect this to go?
I expected Drazh to realize that insulting all humans was as bad as a human insulting all dwarves. Again, Milgen did not insult all dwarves. He pointed out that when humans insult all dwarves like that, Drazh should be angry about it, and therefore he should not insult all humans.
You're the one who's pushing this. I refuse to play my character having to back down from yours so you can play a rage-a-holic who bullies the other characters IC. Now you're taking it OOC as well. My qoute was to warn you, OOC, that if you had Drazh keep pushing pushing pushing IC that it woudl have consequences, now you're turning this into an OOC yelling match.

Kevin O'Rourke 440 |

Stop arguing OOC. There's discussing OOC but this is turning into arguing OOC.
Your characters don't have to get on IC but I hope the players will. Your characters can handle this however they want, maybe both end up trying to establish militias to out do each other or steer clear of each other for the next few days thinking mean things about the other.
Things are going to get more tense soon, hopefully a tough situation will result in them get some comraderie and grudging respect for each other even if they never become friends.
No one has to back down but they don't have to get violent with each other either.

![]() |

I just have to say this, because I think it is key to understanding where I was coming from. And really, I'm trying to discuss this.
As to racial insults, Milgen very carefully said that Drazh would be upset if people said that about dwarves. That's a true statement. It's not my fault you insist on twisting that into Milgen saying that dwarves are greedy whatevers. If I said "Man, Canadians are soft! Where I'm from, we have guns to protect ourselves. You guys should..."
That's not polite to call all Canadians soft. I totally get it. I mean...there are some badass Canadians out there! There are plenty of Canadians who could kick the crap out of me.
But then a Canadian, who got offended by that, says:
"All Canadians aren't soft! If I said to you that all Jews* are [insult jewish insults here] you'd be offended. And if you think that all Canadians are soft, why, I can introduce you to some of my friends and they'll beat you up."
*I use Jew because as one it is more personal to me. But replace Jew with 'blacks' 'hispanics' or any other group and the point still stands.
I would take offense to this. Because of the language used. Even if the Canadian didn't address it to me personally, the mere use of such language would be offensive. The threat of violence if I didn't retract what I said would also put me on edge. The two put together would be something that I would take as being very insulting and not appropriate.
Now, instead let's assume this was said:
"That isn't fair to paint all Canadians as being soft. In fact, it is offensive. You wouldn't like it if someone said that about (insert country, religion or ethnic group). But, if you do think that we are all soft, I could introduce you to some people around town who are quite the opposite. Why, McGregor down the street is a boxing champion. You'll see that what you said wasn't only insulting, but was also wrong."
The first one is insulting because of the language used. The second one is very reasonable. Anyone being insulted at that would be an arse.
I hope that clears up where I was coming from. I see what you were trying to do, and I do think that there is a disconnect here. All I ask of you is that you also try to see where I am coming from.
---
"You're the one who's pushing this. I refuse to play my character having to back down from yours so you can play a rage-a-holic who bullies the other characters IC. Now you're taking it OOC as well. And just as you are quite right that your character certainly doesn't need to back down from anything. Please know that I am *not* pushing for any PvP. I haven't had any IC threat of violence, and have no plans to push for that. I hope that the same is true on your end.
Also, let's agree to not let any IC disputes carry into OOC feelings?
<insert OOC handshake>

Anneka Avertin |

Just so we are clear on this because this discussion has generated enough verbal/semantic gymnastics to win two olympic gold medals:
...who is going to help Anneka shoot her crossbow?

Milgen |

Milgen will be happy to help her. He can shoot one, he just doesn't have one at the moment (mainly due to coin limits).

Milgen |

@Drazh - I don't want this to descend into another OOC argument. So I am not going to respond to the spoiler stuff. I understand where you are coming from, I vehemently disagree with many of your premises about whether it was an insult or not, and therefore am not going to further discuss it, because I cannot do so, I feel, without you taking it as another insult. You will likely consider that an insult as well, but I have no control over your feelings, only my intentions.
As to OOC shaking hands, yes, hand shook. Let's please drop this now, OOC.

Milgen |

@GM - I have asked a couple of times in OOC comments in game thread, but gotten no response. I assume it's just been missed. I have looked through the thread 3 times, and in the discussion thread twice, and can't find how much we each received from the 'chest' that Aldern gave us. Can you confirm how much Milgen has now? It may affect what he does during the two down days.

Milgen |

Thanks, no biggie!
Milgren picks up a new morningstar at the weapon shop then, and also two dozen bolts for teaching Anneka to shoot her crossbow (forgot he had enough to buy a light one!).

![]() |

50 gold? Nice.
Picked up 14 Charkrams. 30ft range, 1d8+str damage? Seems like a good weapon to have for when ranged is needed

Anneka Avertin |

Thanks Milgen. I already put up a post about learning (just before this issue between Milgen and Drazh came up). You can add to that scene as you like.
This could actually be funny: Milgen and Drazh trying to one-up the other in the use of and training in crossbows. You could turn that prior scene into something fun?

Milgen |

Edited to fit your post.
As to Drazh and Milgen trying to one up each other, Milgen told the Sheriff he'd avoid the dwarf, so if the dwarf shows up, he'd bow and head out. Probably better to wait until there's a reason for them to be together in the same spot.

Milgen |

@GM - Milgen is still going to push internally for the militia with the mercantile league, but after Azalia and Drazh, he's not going to include outsiders in it anymore. Now it's going to be the Varisian's who he's pushing, and to hell with the rest of the town.

Milgen |

No problem, I figured it would take more than a day or two. I'll be picking up Diplomacy next level, so that should help. Right now he's using Charisma alone. Might pick up Oratory as well.

![]() |

For the next two days Drazh will be hard at work, making the Masterwork Mace for the watch, and fixing up their equipment. Not much of a chance of him bumping into anyone, but he’d be glad to give crossbow lessons if it is ever wanted.
I like how Milgen is doing a Varisian only militia. That leaves out the Chelaxians, Shoanti, half-orcs, elves, gnomes and dwarves. If we stick around Sandpoint long enough for militia building to become a viable exercise, I could see Drazh organizing them into their own militia as well. Could be fun. :)

Milgen |

If someone other than Varisian's approaches, they'll be let in as well. He's just not going to try to go out and find people after his attempt was so thoroughly and firmly turned into *$&$.

![]() |

Quite happy right now.
Decided to move away from the angry dwarf with rage, and move towards 'simmering vengeance' instead. So dropped the VMC Barbarian. No rage. No rage powers (sadness...losing superstitious and beast totem means lower saves and AC). No damage resistance.
Instead going VMC Cleric of Torag. Kevin O'Rourke was nice enough to let Drazh swap channel energy for lvl 0 spells (like the oracle VMC). His level plan will now look like this...
Lvl 3 VMC: Protection Domain (resistance saves, frees me up from having to buy cloaks of resistance)
Lvl 7 VMC: Lvl 0 spell-Mend
Lvl 11 VMC: Lvl 0 spell-Create Water
Lvl 15 VMC: Conversion Inquisition (Wis for diplomacy, bluff and intimidate)
Lvl 19 VMC: Lvl 0 spell-Detect Magic
And because Drazh won't be needing a cloak of resistance, my first buy is going to be an Transmutation Cloak of the Hedge Wizard (2,500: prestidigitation at-will, mage hand at-will, 1/day enlarge person and expeditious retreat)
This will give Drazh a fair selection of lvl 0 spells (very much looking forward to getting prestidigitation, the most important spell in the game. Cleans your clothes and chills your beer), making him into a more well rounded character who can do a bit more than hit people with a hammer.

Milgen |

I will provide support for this plan.

Kevin O'Rourke 440 |

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items/wondrous-items/e-g/glov es-apprentice-s-cheating/
Apprentices cheating gloves are slightly cheaper but you wouldn't get anlarge person... but mage hand is nice too. If there is something you'd rather in the cloak slot its a good option.
Both items are favourites of mine. I got the divination version of a cloak for an investigator so I could identify magic items.

Miron Vladimirescu |

@Kevin
Does Miron have any official duties in Sandpoint right now?
And is Father Zantus his superior? Or does Miron answer to the Church of Abadar hierarchy?

![]() |

Now that is nice! Very cool on the gloves. A good option if there is a different cloak to wear. Too bad they are both prestidigitation...
I think...looking over it all, I’ll do this:
Wayfinder (500 gold)
* Light at-will on wayfinder
* Can put an Ioun Stone inside for a random bonus (great fun)
Abjuration Cloak of the Hedge Wizard (2,500 gold)
* Prestidigitation (yay!) and Resistance (meh) at will
* Endure Elements 1/day (lasts 24 hours!)
* Shield 1/day (1 minute +4 AC. Not bad for someone without a shield. Use it while tanking a giant and Drazh will be very tanky)
Hand of the Mage (900 gold)
* Mage Hand at-will...quite useful. Can always be put on when needed for when an upgrade is available
Helm of Comprehend Languages and Read Magic (5,200 gold)
* Constant for both spells. It’s a stretch for later...but sounds useful, no?
And that’d be his shopping list. Ioun Stone first, then hand of the mage, then cloak of Hedge Wizard. After that upgrade weapon and armor.

Milgen |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Abjuration Cloak of the Hedge Wizard is cheap enough you might want to consider getting it as a tattoo (5000 GP), so you can add another shoulder slot item.
I usually consider 2500 my cut off on tattoos, as anything 2500 and under is less than 5000 gold. That might go up if someone in the campaign has Craft Magical Tattoo (which I plan on getting).

Kevin O'Rourke 440 |

@Miron You don't have any exact duties right now, but you could organise mass or something when it is suitable. Mechanically speaking there is likely an adept of Abadar in town at best besides yourself. Father Zanthus... think of him more as a member of an allied organisation of higher status.
Who is hanging around the Rusty Dragons in the morning?

![]() |

Magic tattoo is a great idea! I especially like how it means that I can get those lvl 0 spells without having to actually wear the item.
I think that the first purchase I make is going to be a hand of the mage tattoo. 1800 gold for mage hand? Yes, please.
Cloak of the Hedge Wizard is going to be 5000 gold though...that'll be a decent chunk of change...

Milgen |

Milgen probably wouldn't be in the Rusty Dragon, unless someone asked him there for breakfast or something. But he'd be on the streets, so within range.

Azalia |

Azalia is hanging out there in the mornings until her free room and board expires. :)
