I would like to get your input on recruitment of a new player all. Would like to keep this game rolling. It has been a little slow of late. Robert Henry is playing a female bard in my other game and he is cracking me up! He is a very good player and very good at role playing.
Lost Lands

Oro-Tu |

sorry to see you go Wexley, really liked your characters and the way you played them.
I am ok with whatever for recruitment. Of course we seem light on wizard/cleric buffer type role, but can go with whatever is fastest and easiest for everyone.

Silas Frey |

Sorry to see you go, Wexley. Picking on you has been fun, but I understand real life getting in the way.
Part of me feels like my character sits as one of the awkward ones in the game and by being less generalist we could make getting in replacements a little easier.
Been having problems getting time to look in this time down in London. Though today has been spent meeting people at Parliament.

brvheart |

I certainly would not want to lose you Silas. I am busy with the wife today and tomorrow. Certainly a lot less important than with Parliament!

brvheart |

Going out to dinner and a movie with the wife. Introduce yourselves to your new player if he gets here.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
Super stoked to join you all with Ivar, I still need to finish buying gear and I need to replace one trait, he was created with "defender of society" and brvheart says I need to change it. He recommended Razor's Coast or 101 Pirate and Privateers Traits I don't have either of those books so any recommendations?
I will read the gameplay thread and brvheart told me "Your first job is helping with moving 100+ barrels of alchemist fire at 50 lbs each. They need brawn at present!" so looking forward to doing a little manual labor to help out!
Again thanks for having us.

brvheart |

So much for a movie. My wife has to take her friend to her car downtown so she will be another two hours at least. Welcome Ivar:) What would you like it to do? As you were trapped on Serpent's Skull for so long Mad Matee might be appropriate!
Mad Matey: You have been driven mad, perhaps you
were left marooned on a deserted island for too long,
or your ship was trapped in becalmed doldrums and
you were the only man to escape, or perhaps you were
left to rot in a gibbet cage after the authorities died of
disease. Regardless, somehow you always seem to
have the correct solution to a given situation. Often
due to the insight of your madness, you improvise the
right solution to a problem faster and more often than
almost anyone else can. You suffer from some form of
insanity/madness affliction and if you are ever cured
from that affliction you lose the benefit of this feat.
In game terms, the player can ask the GM to modify a
roll once per game session as a free action, but, with
regard to a specific problem. This substitution should
always be tied to a game mechanic, such as:
• Rerolling a botched skill check with a second, related
skill. For instance, after failing a Bluff check, you may
immediately use your mad matey ability to make a
Diplomacy check as perhaps your target takes pity
upon the mad. The first, failed check is ignored.
• Changing the last move action in progress, such as
changing running movement down a hallway into a
Climb check when you discover a nest of snakes in the
hall, because every madman knows where the nest of
snakes is.
• Substituting a skill check for a saving throw, such as
making an Acrobatics check to get over a pit instead of
a Reflex save to avoid it as you were doing
summersaults down the hall, or using a Religion
check instead of a Fortitude save after eating
poisonous berries because you had a divine vision.

brvheart |

Aurora has Plunder Davy Jones’ Locker: You have a flair for dragging folk back from beyond the brink of death. Once per day you can restore life to a dead humanoid creature so long as it has died as a result of hit point loss, drowning, or suffocation and has not been dead for more than 1 round. If you reach the target in time, you must spend a full-round action (that provokes
attacks of opportunity) and succeed on a DC 25 Heal check. If you succeed, the target is immediately restored to an amount of negative hit points equal to one less than its Constitution score, and is now stable.
She would have used it on Silas if she could have reached him on time.

Aurora Shadowbane |

Hello Ivar, i dont think i took 2 hours but whos counting, oh ya, my husband. As for traits, i am sure you will find one that works for you. I also like Sailborne, gives bonuses equal to your level to profession sailor and swim checks. There are a few others too. My character is a Holy Warrior bent on destruction of undead and demons and rigged appropriately, the ends justify the means sort. She stays pretty sane as long as she doesnt get pissed off, but if you get in the way of her target, you might find yourself on the wrong side of her sword. :)
At any rate, welcome to the party, we seem to be moving fast and taking names later, but soon we will get some well deserved rr and go to the skull for a fight.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
brvheart with your permission I would like to do something odd with the armor, are you ok with Ivar using an armored coat as a gambeson for his breastplate.
My idea is that on ship or in tropical weather he will wear his armored kilt and a Haramaki, in town or cold weather he will wear his armored kilt and armored coat (over the Haramaki) and when he Knows there will be combat he wears the breastplate and helmet over the armored coat. Obviously only using the armor value of the heaviest armor.
If that's not ok he can take off one armor and put on the other, please let me know what you think.

brvheart |

Razor's Coast has its own armored coat made for this purpose:
Armor Armor Cost Armor Bonus Maximum Dex Bonus Armor Check Penalty Arcane Failure
Speed 30 ft. Speed 20 ft. Weight
Light Armor
Naval Dress Armor 25 gp +3 +5 -1 15% 30 ft. 20 ft. 20 lbs
Padding Armor 5 gp +1 +8 0 5% 30 ft. 20 ft. 10 lbs
Sharkhide shirt 50 gp +3 +4 –1 15% 30 ft. 20 ft. 18 lbs
Tulita Leaf Armor 500 gp +3 +5 0 15% 30 ft. 20 ft. 20 lbs
Wooden Armor 20 gp +3 +3 -1 15% 30 ft. 20 ft. 25 lbs

Sharkhide Armor 50 gp +5 +3 –3 20% 20 ft. 15 ft. 25 lbs

Body Shield 30 gp +4 +2 -10 50% — — 45 lbs
Armored Coat
This leather coat is often worn over naval dress armor by
officers, along with pirate captains and others seeking more
protection from weapons but wish to quickly escape the
armor if washed overboard.
The coat can be donned or removed with a move action.
If worn over other armor, use the better AC bonus and
worse value in all other categories. An armored coat has
no effect when worn with heavy armor. If wearing magical
armor and a magical armored coat, only the coat’s magic
effects apply until removed.
You realize when you add the armored kilt to your breastplate it becomes heavy armor. Aurora basically wears the same.

Leialoha |

Here are a couple I thought might fit Ivar (Mad Matey was also on my list)
Jack Ketch Stare: You possess a calm, murderous
look often coupled with a tensed menacing posture,
deadly stillness, and stony silence conveying a depth
of anger and potential violence. Once per week you
can demoralize an opponent as an immediate action
(see the Intimidate skill).
Piracy, Kidnapping, and Theft of the Queen’s
Petticoat: You have committed a large list of
transgressions, but what has created the largest
uproar is what would normally be a minor offense.
However, because it was committed against a
powerful individual with a great deal of influence, it
has added a greater deal of infamy to your name than
any other wrongdoing. You do not suffer intimidation
penalties due to your size. Once per week, as a swift
action, you can perform an Intimidate check simply
by talking (without making verbal threats or displays
of prowess); as part of this check you identify yourself
and list your transgressions.

Leialoha |

Or to explain your marooning...
Leviathan’s Nemesis: Your ship and crew, or
perhaps the ship or crew of a loved one, has been
taken down to Davy Jones’s locker by some monster
of the deep; for this you have sworn vengeance against
the creature. Once per day, against a creature with the
aquatic subtype, you deal additional damage to that
creature based on how much larger it is than you (see
below).
Number of Size Additional
Categories Larger Damage Dice
1 size category +1d6
2 size categories +2d6
3 size categories +3d6
4 size categories +4d6
5 or more size categories +5d6

Leialoha |

A couple of these seem appropriate too
Raise the Jolly Roger: You have a gift for inspiring
a group of pirates or privateers into action. Once per
day as a move action, you can attempt to rally and
inspire your allies (by raising a flag, waving a banner
or giving a quick, impassioned speech). You grant
either a +1 morale bonus your allies’ next d20 roll or
all nearby allies under the effects of a single unwanted
condition can make another saving throw against the
effect (at the original DC) to throw it off. Effects
without saving throws cannot be thrown off in this
way.
Salty and Steadfast: You have been exposed to a
great deal or took to heart that all the sea stories you
were told are true; as such, you have become a
dauntless cynic. Once per day you can ignore the
effect of a spell or effect of the compulsion subschool
or any one of the following conditions for 1 round per
character level you possess: cowering, frightened,
panicked, shaken, or staggered.
Show A Leg Ye Bilge Rats!: Your know the voice of
command and the discipline a ship needs so well that
you can even command an ally to shrug off
detrimental effects for a time. Once per week, you can
cause a single ally (but not yourself) to ignore one
debilitating condition (but not the dead condition) for
1 round per 2 character levels you possess (minimum
1 round). Once this benefit lapses, the condition
returns for the remainder of its complete duration.

Leialoha |

So many good ones. I really must recommend it. Only $5.99 and includes Hero Lab files.
101 Pirate and Privateer Traits (PFRPG) PDF

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
I get nervous with the use once a day or use once a week traits, I worry about forgetting them; and it's frustrating because so many of those sound really cool! So to keep things simple I'm going to go with "Viking blood" but I appreciate all the recommendations Leialoha!
@brvheart: is it ok if Ivar uses a Haramaki? It will cover most of his abdomen leaving his chest and shoulders exposed so everyone can see his tattoo. When needed he will wear the armored coat. When intentionally headed into combat he will wear his breastplate. I'm showing his skills with the MW agile breastplate but not the shield, I will engage and disengage the shield in combat; also I will list the particular armor class with combat, if this is too confusing I will just default and use the breastplate all the time. Based on accounts like the Battle of Fulford the Dane’s didn't wear their armor all the time, so why would Ivar?
I need to finish adding the magic items into the crunch, I remembered the list you told Naomi: armor, weapon, stat increasing belt, cloak of resistance, ring of protection and amulet of natural armor what did you call them the big six? 20% was 4,060 gp. so I couldn't buy +2 armor, oh well.
I do have a proposal, any chance you would let me break the 20% rule and trade the amulet of natural armor, the cloak of resistance and the ring of protection (8,000gp) for a cloak of the manta ray I think there cool and more thematic for Ivar. That way he wouldn’t look like he just walked out of a “Bed Bath and Beyond Magic Store.” Just a thought.

brvheart |

Let us know when your character is ready Ivar so the party can proceed at something other than hauling freight!

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
As for Ivar roll a percentile, 70% chance he has the cloak in stock. However I do not use oriental weapons or armor
percentage to buy cloak: 1d100 ⇒ 32
so spending my final 3,200 gp. and the 4,000 gp. from the cloak of resistance on a cloak of the manta ray (yay) and were good to go!
Edit: if you would double check Ivar to make sure I didn't miss any thing; I believe he is ready to go, again, thanks for letting him in the game!

brvheart |

So you have met the local wizard Sagacious Samuel whom you bought the cloak from. We will wait for Silas to return from London and then get started

brvheart |

The obsidian is not an issue with the volcanic nature of the area. The weapon cost you an additional 30 GP for it. The belt and the bandolier however take the same slot so you can't wear both at the same time. Yeah doesn't make sense to me either. I am showing you at 22,927, but 30 gold will only buy 120 bullets so you have a little money left. The +1 kilt is part of the breast plate. They become one item and heavy armor. It costs 1570 GP so that is where your funds are off.

Response:
I will skip the beneficial bandolier and replace it with two mundane bandoliers (I gp.) and a “blue bird” tattoo on his right wrist (900 gp.)
The armored kilt and the breastplate cost 1570? It looks like you included the price of a regular breastplate instead of and agile breastplate so the combined price should be 1,720 gp. Can he still wear the kilt by itself or with the armored coat or should I just skip that Idea?
Is the Second trait: Viking blood ok? It’s +1 on intimidate, I think you gave it +2 on profession: sailor.
I had two pistols listed, did you have one or two?
Weapons Master training runs a little different instead of Weapon Training (Axes) +1 (Ex) +1 Attack, Damage, CMB, CMD with Axes it should be +2 bonus on attack and damage rolls with his chosen weapon, at 7th level
At 3rd level, a weapon master gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with his chosen weapon. The bonus improves by +1 for every four levels beyond 3rd.
This ability replaces Armor Training 1, 2, 3 and 4.
At 5th level, a weapon master may reroll an attack roll, critical hit confirmation roll, miss chance check, or damage roll as an immediate action. He must accept the second roll even if it is worse. He can use this ability once per day at 5th level, plus one additional time per day for every five levels beyond 5th.
This ability replaces Weapon Training 1
OK I think that’s it, please let me know if I messed anything up, thanks

To all:
I just finally heard back from Beth aka Llaelian. He has suffered a deep personal family loss:
With those circumstances, I want to spend all my time with my family so I'm not going to go on with my games on paizo.com.
Again, I apologize for not having the strength to communicate with you earlier and I wish you all the best both in your personal an online life. Please share my apologies to all the players as I don't want to go public with those issues. Tell them also, I had a really great time playing this game. Thank you again for that great game and for all the energy and care you put in it.
By for now,
Llaelian
I have been there. It never gets any easier. Let us keep him and his family in our prayers.

brvheart |

Sorry Ivar, will look back at your character after awhile. I need a little time to deal with this please.

brvheart |

Added second pistol and trait. Also added archetype. Kilt becomes part of the breastplate and I guess that is why is cheaper. I checked, I used +1 Agile. You can wear this with or without the coat. The perform is perform what? You are now down to 7 GP.

Ivar "Goldilocks" Theodinson |
no "fancy gloves" was in reference to Silas' shadow falconer's gloves and redhead was in reference to Natalie, he had not heard either of their names yet so that is how he mentally recognized them. Aurora use Silas' name so Ivar knows who he is. I don't think anyone has actually used Natalie's name so she is still "the cute redhead" in Ivar's mind.

brvheart |

It would be a nice idea to introduce yourselves in character guys and gals!

Natalie Desmee |

Sorry everything was moving so fast, Aurora shows up as we're entering the sewers and a new face appears as we move "product". we had other priorities. :) introductions will eventually be made.

brvheart |

That is always a pain. Good to see you back:) Although Oro-Tu did get called a servant for standing around while everyone else was doing all the work! Luckily they had Ivar to help out with the heavy lifting. Oro-Tu did need a break after that scorpion venom though.

brvheart |

Zalen casts a full restoration on Oro-Tu so he should be ok on Strength now.

brvheart |

And now everyone should know why there are so many maps to Garr Bloodbane's gold and why so many want them!

brvheart |

Working on getting the maps set up for the fight with Bonegnaw. The capt will need to sleep it off and your casters need to rest to get spells to say nothing of Oro-Tu with all his raging today. You can all discuss your plans on getting this accomplished. I am going to bed.

brvheart |

Not sure if I gave XP for the demons. It was 220 each for the five of you and Wexley.

brvheart |

Aurora found the XP for the demons. Our Tulita seem to be busy this week. Need to hear from them before we proceed.
