Right. I'd like to know if the noise is coming towards us, or moving away. The movement in the pond and the noise are cool and spooky effects but may be there as distractions. I am thinking we go for the house.


Sorry about that. Forgot about the north beeing on the left and not up. So yeah, the noise come from the north west. Or from where the big red arrow is pointing. Also, the noise is coming toward you.

Most of the group runs for cover while Anna vanishes from sight. Tolvan gets closer to the house and tries to see what is coming their way. From deeper in the swamp, he sees a huge dark shape emerging from the dark woods. Has the trees fall, he gets a better view. The thing seems to have large wings and a long neck with a nasty looking head. There is a series of tall spikes on its back and a long tail. He imagines that it will be airborne in a few seconds. next round

The colour seems to be black, or at least very dark. It is missing the perticular horns that a black dragon has. Also, it only seem to have one set of legs and not two like a dragon.

@Anna. Yes the tree is big enough to offer cover.

The creature rises up in the air and start flying toward you. With the thing now in full view, you finally appreciate just how big it is... The thing is huge! Danica and Tolvan now realise what they are facing. It is a Shantak. It is a magical beast normally encounter in the cold mountain area. It is hard to explain why it would be here. They both remember that a Shantak is normally immune to cold and disease. Their favorite tactic is to grab people up and drop them from great height.

Tolvan's magic missiles hits the creature, making it shriek once more. It would also seem that he is now the focus of the Shantak.

She runs under the cloak of her invisibility towards the smaller trees, planning on using them once her ring's magic is dispelled. She readies her heavy crossbow, taking aim for a well-placed shot once it gets close enough that she can hit it where it hurts.

Did we resolve the Ear Piercing Scream that Danica cast the same round Tolvin hit it with missiles? I am betting this thing has all sorts of flying attack feats too. It likely does not have to land to attack...

The Ear Piercing Scream that Danica readied didn't happend since the creature didn't get in range yet.

Danica summons flame around her weapon as Tolvan send another volley of magic missiles at the creature. It flies toward the mage, but he folds reality around himself and disappear from view.

Tolvan:
You are in a empty room. In front of you are a set of double doors. Also, there are 2 single door on either side.

Out of target, the creature shriek in frustration. At the same time, a bolt from Anna bounces of the creature thick scales. With a new target available, the creature change direction and heads for the lone rogue. The powerful jaw comes inches from Anna, but fails to lock on her.

Ananias moves to Anna's side. "I have no range weapons, it needs to come down." He stands there with his weapon in hand, hoping that one of the magic user can bring the creature to him. Kimberly moves forward while staying near the building. "Stay there, you big ugly." Her words seem to be laced with magic, and the creature seems to be fighting them for a second, but manages to shake them off.

Are the doors leading back outside locked? I not Tolan will open one as a move action and cast Glitterdust on the creature. DC 19 Will Save or be blind.

Blind Condition:

The creature cannot see. It takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class, loses its Dexterity bonus to AC (if any), and takes a –4 penalty on most Strength– and Dexterity-based skill checks and on opposed Perception skill checks. All checks and activities that rely on vision (such as reading and Perception checks based on sight) automatically fail. All opponents are considered to have total concealment (50% miss chance) against the blinded character. Blind creatures must make a DC 10 Acrobatics skill check to move faster than half speed. Creatures that fail this check fall prone. Characters who remain blinded for a long time grow accustomed to these drawbacks and can overcome some of them.

Tolvan blinds the creature with an explosion of dust. Anna finds some weak spots in the creature defense. Danica's temple sword follow suit and burns a gash in the Shantak shoulder. Frustrated, the creature loudly shrieks at every wound it receives from the unseen assailant.

Ananias easily slashes at it with his scimitar. The first strike opens a serious wound in its neck while the second finishes the job of separating the head from the body. The creature collapse on the ground, dead. With all the shrieking it did, you are pretty sure that whoever was in the house now knows that someone is outside.

That was well fought my friends. Anna, we make a deadly team if I do say so myself. I've got the front door open already. Tolvan says from the porch.


You open the double doors, and walk in. A vast chamber occupies the space below the mansion’s cracked dome. Sweeping stone stairways, their wooden railings long since rotted away, climb to a balcony overlooking the room below. From the center of the floor rises a rough, flat stone with scorch marks on its center, large enough to be a table. More surprising are the columns that support the dome high above. Rather than the finished pillars one would expect in such a stately chamber, seven massive stones stand along the walls instead, crudely chiseled and set on end in a rough circle. It appears that the lords of Undiomede did not just place their seat at an age-old sacred site, but built their house upon the ancient stone menhirs of the druid ring itself.

Standing on the other side of the center stone is a very, very large green woman. She has a large piece of wood that look like a mast of a ship in her hands. She seems to hold it like a greatclub. Eyeing you she starts talking. "You don't belong here. Go away!"

Since it seems like we're about to get into combat, I'm using my Skill Unlock for Sense Motive

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26

Skill Unlock:

If you were aware of an opponent before rolling initiative (such as when you ambush an enemy or negotiations break down into combat, but not when both sides happen upon each other or you are surprised), you can attempt a Sense Motive check as part of your initiative check (DC = 11 + the highest Bluff modifier among your opponents or DC 15, whichever is higher). If you succeed, you gain a +1 bonus on the initiative check, plus an additional +1 for every 5 by which you exceeded the DC.

If this creature has a Bluff modifier (it doesn't roll; just use its modifier) of 5 or less, I've got a +3 to my Init. Up to 10, I've got a +2, and up to 15 I've got a +1. Anything higher than that, I'm stuck with my base Init of +11.

Discern Lies - inquisitor can discern lies, as per the spell, for a number of rounds per day equal to her inquisitor level. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. Activating this ability is an immediate action.

Unsure if we have a surprise round or if we need to roll initative here. Tolvan will pull out his wand of Charm Monster and try it on the the creature in hopes of avoiding combat. Its a wand so the DC is not great. I believe its a will save DC 16.


She is expecting trouble just like you are, so no surprise round. Think of this as a old western face off. I was just waiting to see if everyone was done with diplomacy.

Makes good sense to me. IF I beat her I'll try the wand if not then she gets a good bonus for being in combat and its now worth the try

Then she draws her dagger and gets ready to move.

With the discussion failing to move forward, Tolvan pulls out a wand and tries to charm the giant. Her brain proves too stubborn to fall for the magic and the spell fails. Anna tries a different type of magic and successfully injure the creature. Then Danica charges in and slashes at the creature, inflicting another wound. The giant takes a step away from Danica and starts using words of magic. Words and sounds goes through your head as you are unable to fully concentrate for a moment.

You are all targeted by a confusion spell. Confusion It is a Will DC 17 to resist.

Ananias and Kimberly seem to be frozen in their spot, mumbling inconhempresible words as they are shaking their heads.
