It is a good movie, you should try to find the time to see it.

Anna inspects the door and finds no traps. What she does find is that the next room seems to have people inside. She can't really make out the words, but there are definitely two voices in there. One from a man, the other is a woman. They are whispering to each other.

I will second this. Guillermo del Toro is one of the best directors working today; The Shape of Water is absolutely brilliant.

Liked it too, and more than I thought I would. Watched it on a flight to Denmark. I catch up on movies on international flights, mostly becuase I cannot sleep.

Anna jimmies the lock if there is one, doing it extra slow to not alert the occupants to what she was doing.

Then, after checking to make sure her crossbows were loaded just in case, she throws open the door.

"Hi! I'm doing a community poll: What are your feelings on weird fish people and monsters with tentacles? Strongly for, or strongly against?"

Her heavy crossbow is lowered, but she's ready to bring it up in an instant.

Not party to what Anna may or may not have heard through the door, Ananias is surprised to see her throw the door open and begin questioning... someone?... on the other side. He glances toward Tolvan with a lifted eyebrow. Is she always like this? his face seems to read before he moves around behind Anna to hopefully get a view into the room and see who or what she's addressing.

Tolvan moves to where he can at least see Anna and better react to the situation.


Bursting into the room, Anna finds a young couple sitting on the bench. The woman just starts screaming in fear as the man just tries to get some words out. "Wha... Wha... What?" They have no visible weapons or anything to protect themselves.

"Okay. Sorry for surprising you. But the priest isn't coming back. He wasn't the nice kind that prayed for sun and gentle waves, let me tell you. He was definitely of the bad-touch variety." Anna shudders as she recalls getting cursed by the priest.

"So, who are you and what are you doing here?"

Tolvan walks up and looks in, in a non-threatening, no weapons in hand kind of way. hello.


The man manages to calm what seems to be his wife, and while still holding her in a reassuring way, he tries to answer Anna's questions. "My... My name is Rufus and she is my wife Imelba. I'm a fisherman while my wife gathers seaweed." He turns to his wife, and they look at each other. Fear seems to make them hesitant to say more.

Anna taps the crossbow against her leg impatiently. They seemed harmless, but Anna would rather be an alive jerk than a dead fool.

"Okay, part one is answered. Thank you. But since I don't see any fish or seaweed here in this room, let me ask you again: what are you doing here?"

The couple looks at each other. They seem to have a discussion with their eyes for a few seconds, and then the woman turns to you. "We are here because of our daughter." Tears swell up in her eyes as she continues talking. "We brought her here for, well, for fostering. When the people that was supposed to come for her didn't show up, Vicar Voltiaro took her to the Vizier. We were told to wait here for him to return."

The woman continues. "Everard is one of the sons of Vizier and one of the Vicars. The second Vicars is Caleb, the second son of the Vizier. The third Vicar is Garrick Prosker, he's a bit bit... well, weird."

The men of this church are not as they seem. They worship some warped aspect of Gozreh. It is not a good thing. We have not found your daughter yet but will look for her. We recommend you wait here. Tolvan explains.

We have not yet explored this place fully. Shall we do so? There are at least the two other doors and the potential water ways. Hmm. I do not feel right about leaving these good people here in this room with the water unchecked. Perhaps we should check the pools to see if there are passages in them?

Ananias nods, recognizing Tolvan's wisdom. "I too grow increasingly concerned about what this water may mean. Though," he motions his hand to indicate his heavy armor, "I'm not exactly equipped for swimming. Maybe it would be best to send these people to safety, explore all of the terrestrial rooms in this temple, then consider what underground waterways might exist."

The couple would not wish to leave without their daughter. I think they are safest in this room where they were left. I am a poor swimmer as I have never taken the time to learn the skill. But I can do this. Tolvan summons 4 globes of dancing lights under the water in the room they are in and dances them around to expose all the corners and hopefully expose any tunnels or passages and of course any threats. Were I to design such a place with watery creatures in mind I would connect these rooms with underwater tunnels.

Anna looks with surprise at Tolvan. "You didn't learn to swim? Even after that water room in Schloss Caromarc? Huh. After that place, I'd have figured a prepared guy like you would want to learn. Though, we have been pretty busy since. Maybe I'll take you swimming some time."

She looks at the pools and gulps while the magic light goes down into the water. She sets her crossbow down and draws her dagger.

"The water and the rooms are not going anywhere. We either secure them in the same room we found them in or we escort them out of the temple. Either way no harm shall befall on them."

Dania goes into her pouch and pulls out a ring. "Guys, this was one of the rings worn by one of the priest. Tolvan, you identified that it allows the wearer with the skill to swim. Maybe you should use it. We also found some potions that will do the same. Looks like these priest were using these items. I have some skill at swimming but I am no expert."

Okay, right." Anna picks up her crossbow and makes her way to the next unexplored door. She moves quieter and quieter as she approaches, then kneels down before the latch to inspect for traps.

Take 10 for 31 on trapfinding, then 29 for Disable Device if it's locked.

Any noise or commotion in the next room that she can detect would put her on high alert before opening the door.


Exploring the water in a three rooms reveal that they are all connected. You also notice another submerged tunnel that leads away from the temple to the west. Anna also examines one of the last doors left. She finds no danger and no sign of any locks. Once the group is ready, the door is opened and a small chapel is revealed. It contains a simple altar of green stone at its far end. A mosaic on the wall above the altar depicts a creature that appears to be a mixture of fish, frog, and human. The air is thick with the smell of rotting fish.

Ananias stands behind Anna, glad to not be going for a swim quite yet. When the smell of rotting fish rolls over him, though, he brings his hand to his mouth, gagging. "Gonna love to find out what they actually worship here... why would this possibly be a good thing?!?"

Anna recoils from the awful stench. "Ugh! That's so nasty! Who would want to join the rotten fish religion?"

She gives Tolvan a none-too-pleased look. "Oh, you had to remember that, didn't you?" Then reluctantly, she moves back to that room.

While Danica isn't able to identify any religious pattern to the stained glass, she is able to recognize the fish/frog/man as a Skum. Why such despicable creatures would be immortalise in such way in a temple to Gozreh is impossible to guess. Finally, after finding nothing else of interest, the group travel back to the room with the corpses.

Anna starts carefully inspecting them and find nothing of interest... until she reaches the finely dressed one. In the corpse's pocket, she finds twenty-two gold pieces and a small ceramic egg. Before she is able to look more at the find, she notices something else. Something quite disturbing actually. The torso of the corpses starts moving. Even more disturbing, a second, then a third, and then a forth corpse also starts moving.

"If they were going to wake... why now?" Ananias wonders aloud, even as he begins the incantation to a shield spell.

Tolvan takes a step back before preparing to cast a spell as a readied action should a threat appear. twitching corpses are not a threat per say.


While Ananias summon a magical barrier to protect himself, Anna stabs the corpse a few times. Sadly the inflicted damage doesn't stop the torso from twitching and after another second or two blood and gore start spilling out from the neck. It is quickly followed by four large slugs about the size of a man's forearm. They are bloody and slimy and utterly repulsive. Once out of the corpses, they start making their way to the pool of water.

Tolvan:
You have no idea what those are exactly. You can deduce, judging by their anatomy, that these creatures are able to bury themselves into the skin of any living creature they come in contact. Once there, they more than likely feed on their host life energy until they mature into their next stage of life. Whatever that next stage is, it seems pretty lethal, according to the corpse here.

tolvan is certainly doing something. Wanted to know what they were first. Any hint on how tough they are? I am considering dropping a wall of fire with the cool side towards the wall/water on them - would do 2d6+9 to each. Only way I can get all of them without also getting us. I could also fireball them, but in this small room it might get us too. It would help to know where people are so I can better decide.
