Katanas have an 18-20 crit range.

Rest looks good with a cursory glance.

You'll likely be chosen, as I set out the requirements to just be one of the first 5 with a character completed and submitted.

So far that includes:

Brainiac
Azih
whosawhatsis

Slots still open for 2 more people, whoever completes a character submission first. If the three with characters wish to begin bouncing backstory ideas and character relationships off one another that may be a good idea.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Raef Darr's background is that he's an agent for an organization of artificial intelligences that seek to maintain peaceful relations with organic beings. A rogue AI is of course of particular concern to this organization and so Raef is sent in on an intelligence gathering mission.

That's an initial draft, if the other players want to cooperate on creating a shared background that'd be good too.

Edit: Actually I just noticed that you took a campaign trait from Legacy of Fire (Finding your kin- also called "Finding Haleen" in Archive of Nethys). While I am actually fine with some campaign traits, note that I do reserve the right to refuse any that don't fit. This one actually does fit into the story quite well thematically-especially if you make it your mission to seek out and find a mentor who was lost inside Project: Golarion, and so I'm going to give it the go ahead. I will expect that you take the trait seriously and make it a main focus of your backstory and greater goals though.

I was actually thinking that the brooding goth kid's primary motivation is to defeat A.R.O.D.E.N. so that he can get out of the game and back to his elderly mother, who he's really worried about in his absence. This is, of course, inconsistent with the persona he attempts to portray, but I figure the truth will come out at some point.

My character is one of the "originals", and found himself trapped in the game and cut-off from her unexpectedly.

That sounds great to me!

Given the nature of the character, I'm thinking of having him go by a handle like "DarkDealer52". I'll come up with a real name too, but that might or might not come up in-game. I'm really enjoying the meta-roleplaying aspect of the setting, more so than I thought I would. The subjective morality system was also a good call. I hadn't seen it before, but it's really fitting.

Looks like our characters would have just me recently (see my backstory here), though there's plenty of skill overlap, so our characters will have some things in common.

Btw, I picked the Shadowy Stalker package. It's alright, though an ioun torch would have been nice. Maybe I'll purchase one later. The package did include 1gp, some of which I spent on decks of cards for flavor purposes.

I take it Psionics are not on the table?

For those still considering, if you're looking for party roles to fill, we could use someone with healing magic (if we don't get one, I'll probably take kinetic healer at level 4, but you guys will have to be willing to accept some Burn if that's our only option) and some kind of arcane caster (note, witches and bards at least get cure spells, so probably a better option than wizard/sorcerer if we don't have a cleric). We also don't have any knowledges covered besides local and dungeoneering (Azih), and the role of party face is wide open (and a couple of the people we're waiting to hear from did roll high on charisma).

Here's the alias for my character. I'll be filling it out throughout the day.

The basic backstory is that she's a hunter/junkie addicted to the false reality of the game, believing it to be more "real" than the actual world. She chose a name to fit in with the world of Golarion and doesn't talk about her life on the outside. More details to come as I develop them.

If psionics is a no go, ill go with oracle of life

Out of curiosity, which psionic class are you considering?

Does this mean that she was a player of the game before A.R.O.D.E.N. took over, but was not in the game at that moment (and thus not an "original")? If so, she and DarkDealer could have quested together in the past, but we'd still have to work out how they met up.

--------

Question for the GM: How do the sellswords and hunters enter project golarion, and where in that world do they appear when they do? For that matter, what part of Golarion will we be starting out in, and how long has it been since A.R.O.D.E.N. took over?

Right, she happened to be logged out at the time and wasn't trapped. But she probably would be envious of the originals since she doesn't like her real life. I'm cool with us questing together. She probably would chide DarkDealer for not "roleplaying" to her standards--he can't even be bothered to choose a proper name! ;)

Hard light arenas can be found in cities of all sizes all over the world. Typically each one offers a more specific"gaming" experience, but the rogue AI has begun taking over not-dedicated arenas as well. Those who wish to enter merely walk through the front door, though after a few incidents of losing children, governments now keep a close tally of all the entrances at any given time and makes sure to label them plainly and place a guard out front. When a single arena gets"full", the lights go out and it "closes", though attempts by government entities to discover what happens to the bodies in "full" arenas have so far proven unsuccessful.

You aren't sure of any organized rules for who pops up where, it certainly seems random. It's been a little over 18 months since the original event.

As the tank, I approve this choice. :)

As for where you all start, I'll probably just start throwing darts at my inner sea region map soon to decide ;). Nah, I'm still deciding on a start point. It'll probably start somewhere in Avistan, maybe Cheliax, Varisia, or Andoran.

Could my Shadowy Stalker package have the sunrods replaced with a shortbow and 10 normal arrows and 10 blunt arrows?

Azih wrote:

Hmmm, I'll say yes if you trade for both sunrods and a single one of your three alchemist fires.

Sounds good.

Looks good to go.

That leaves one more slot open for anyone who wishes to take it. My work will be keeping me busy but I'm aiming to have enough finalized so we can get started in the middle of next week.

Nobody rolled a high INT, so a wizard is unlikely, but we could really use a bard or sorcerer (focused on battlefield control, buff/debuff, illusion/enchantment, basically anything but a blaster) if you have high CHA, or maybe use high WIS for a druid?.

I might be able to throw a character together. I'm still here, but unsure if I'll make it in time (it would likely be this weekend if ever).

Dαedαlus, you want to at least roll some stats so you can think about it?

Str: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 4) = 10 9
Dex: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 2) = 11 10
Con: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 4) = 15 13
Int: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 6) = 12 11
Wis: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 5) = 10 9
Cha: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 1) = 12 11

Rollin' rollin' rollin'...

NOPE. That's trashbags. Any chance for a reroll?

Just in case I'm allowed to get away from a 3-point buy roll:

Str: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 2) = 13 12
Dex: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 3) = 12 11
Con: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 3) = 8 7
Int: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 4) = 13 12
Wis: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 2) = 14 12
Cha: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 1) = 14 13

Better, because it's 6 point-buy. Not because it's viable.

If the GM is on my side, even when Lady Luck is not:

Str: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 2) = 15 12
Dex: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 3) = 16 13
Con: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 1) = 9 8
Int: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 1) = 10 9
Wis: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 2) = 12 11
Cha: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 1) = 7 6

A NEGATIVE THREE POINT BUY. This game is cursed.

Questions: Is it possible for me to get an ironwood/darkwood breastplate? With my low Dex, I'd like to have some manner of decent armor. My shield would also need to be wooden, not steel, and I'd love for it to be light, not heavy, so I could still cast.

The weapon/shield changes are all fine.

For breastplate, it can be an everlasting ironwood, but you have to tell me in your backstory the story of how you found a powerful druid who could cast such a spell and gained favor with them. Where they an original? A computer program? Was it impossible to tell? What task did they have you complete.

Didn't have a chance to look super closely at the crunch, but didn't see any issues outright.

Those are some nice wizard/witch stats...

Statblock is all fleshed out, just writing up a backstory now - both he and the Druid that Ironwood-ed his armor will be originals, I think, mostly cooped up in our Grove zone, tending to a garden and doing some of the hunting/gathering professions, rather than doing any real in-game combat. :D

Special Qualities

Nature’s Armaments: A green scourge can lose a prepared 1st- or 2nd-level spell in order to cast shillelagh or flame blade, respectively. She can instead choose to lose a higher-level spell in order to increase the enhancement bonus of her shillelagh, or to add any of the following weapon special abilities to her shillelagh or flame blade: bane (aberrations only), frost, mighty cleaving, returning, shock, throwing, or vicious. If the target weapon is a quarterstaff, these bonuses apply to only one of its ends. If a flame blade gains the frost or shock special ability, the base damage of the spell changes to match the energy type; neither a flame blade nor shillelagh can gain both of these special abilities. A green scourge cannot add the throwing property to a flame blade unless she also adds the returning property.
When adding weapon special abilities or increasing the enhancement bonus, the final level of the spell expended is 1 higher than the base spell level (2nd for shillelagh and 3rd for flame blade), increased by the additional special abilities’ total base price modifier. For example, creating an aberration-bane vicious flame blade requires spending a 5th-level spell slot, which also counts as a 5th-level spell for purposes of dispelling.
This ability alters spontaneous casting.

Animal Focus (Su): At 1st level, as a swift action, a feral shifter can take on the aspect of an animal, gaining a bonus or special ability based on the type of animal emulated. This functions as the hunter’s animal focus class feature (see page 27). The feral shifter can use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her druid level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but it must be spent in 1-minute increments. She can emulate only one animal at a time. This ability replaces nature bond.

Aberration Sense (Ex): At 1st level, a green scourge adds Knowledge (dungeoneering) to her class skills and gains a +2 bonus on Knowledge (dungeoneering) checks

Wild Empathy (Ex): A druid can improve the attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person (see Using Skills). The druid rolls 1d20 and adds her druid level and her Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly. To use wild empathy, the druid and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time. A druid can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but she takes a -4 penalty on the check.

Woodland Stride (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, a druid may move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at her normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. Thorns, briars, and overgrown areas that have been magically manipulated to impede motion, however, still affect her.

Scentless (Ex): At 3rd level, a green scourge cannot be detected or tracked with the scent ability or any other special senses that rely on acute smell. She can choose to exude a scent if desired.

Gear
Armor: Light steel shield, masterwork breastplate.

Weapons: Cold iron Scimitar, sling with 10 bullets, masterwork club.

Combat Gear: Alchemist’s fire (3), holy water (4), oil of bless weapon, potions of cure light wounds (2), potion of protection from evil, sunrods (3).

Other Gear: Backpack, bedroll, belt pouch, candles (5), chalk (5 pieces), crowbar, flint and steel, holy symbol (silver), mess kitUE, sack, silk rope (50 ft.), trail rations (5 days), waterskin, 7 gp.

@HedwickTheWorldly: Looks good! Character accepted, welcome aboard.

@Ancient Dragon Master: If you would still like to join, I'd be happy to accept a 6th. Just try to finish up character creation before Wednesday.

Congrats everyone in the game! If you'd all like to further discuss character backgrounds and builds, feel free to do so either here or in the discussion thread. I'll probably open gameplay for dotting early next week and have the first post up by either Wednesday or Thursday. Excited to get the game started!!!

While we're waiting, I have a question. How will you be handling leveling? Are we tracking XP (and if so, which progression), or are you planning to level us based on story milestones, or what? Just putting some final touches on my character sheet and want to know if I should fill anything in for XP.

Does all Paizo material include Player companions published by them?

Will this be a live with what we get Game?

Character stuff for reference:

Traits: 2 traits, drawbacks allowed
Hit Points: Max at first level, then half hit-dice +1
Variant Multiclassing Allowed
-All official Paizo classes and content allowed, open to allowing some 3rd party feats if requested.
-Starting gear- Choose one "Package" from Adventurer's Armory 2. You can alter the items in the package as detailed in their various descriptions, such as changing which masterwork weapon is included in the holy warrior package, etc.
Unchained: Subjective Morality and loyalty system to replace alignment
Unchained Disease/Poison Track
Automatic Bonus Progression
The gods don't exist, but the AI has implemented a loyalty system in keeping with what it considers "authenticity" to its mad programming. You may "align" yourself with any single golarion deity at a time, and may gain all the benefits (and restrictions) of worshipping that deity (feats, domains, expanded spell options, etc).

Yes, all player companions are allowed. You'll have to clarify with what you mean by a "live with what you get Game"?

Will this be a live with what we get Game?

Yes, all player companions are allowed. You'll have to clarify with what you mean by a "live with what you get Game"?

As in kind of a No cities, No towns, No magic shops we have to 'live with what we get'

Sure. As for the cities/towns/magic shops etc, they certainly do exist, but most of the game will be spent away from them. When you do encounter shops they will have somewhat limited inventory, but when the game starts it will be some time before you find a place to spend money again. Most enemies have "drops" similar to video games, corpses of notable defeated enemies turn into useful magic items appropriate to their type. A dragon, for example, when slayed may automatically convert into a few sets of dragonscale armor and a legendary weapon when killed, in addition to leaving behind the treasures of its horde.

I'll take a harder look when I get the chance. Don't forget to pick your traits before the game starts.
