With death in his eyes, Harlbrount fires another arrow at the beast, but his sorrow causes him to only graze the monstrousity.

Angered at the death of his companion's friend, Gwynbel shoots off one last rock at the retreating minotaur.
Afterwards, he goes over to see if he can do anything for the furry friend.

Harlbrount bows his head as the half-orc places a hand on his shoulder. Stifling a wracking sob, the Kellid stumbles forward and falls to his knees at the body of his faithful companion. He brushes a trembling hand through the bloody fur, then falls back into a sitting position, cradling the remains. Those close enough hear whispered, choking words from the big man as he rocks gently back and forth.
After a time, Harlbrount wordlessly begins digging at the dirt with dagger, excavating a shallow depression. The man then rises slowly and solemnly begins retrieving stones from the river, his body periodically spasming with sobs. Harl takes some time to build a small cairn for his companion, then stands silently for a time, before turning to the party. I know that we do not have time for my grieving, let us be on our way.

"I'm very sorry about your loss, Harl. I know all too well the sting of losing a close friend destined for a shorter life. He left this coil in a way his mother would be proud of."

Death Knell Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
The minotaur unfortunately resists Darius's attempt to drain it's life force away.
Janira heads back over you join you guys and consoles Harlbrount
"I'm sorry about Brusolex. His noble act of sacrifice is the epitome of what cooperation means within the society. Let him not be forgotten"
She follows with a silent prayer over the cairn.
"Well, I appreciate your bravery, just remember that discretion is sometimes the better part of valor. Good job with all the snow and glue and grease to keep him pinned down as much as possible."
She seems both glad that you helped and disapproving of your choice at the same time.
The Minotaur has a large greataxe and 3 large javelins, but nothing else of value.
"Well, now that we're here, and all in one piece it's time for your confirmation to begin in earnest. As a reminder you're going to need to go in, explore the caves, find any clues about the gillmen and provide a detailed report. I'll be out here, writing up our encounter with the minotaur. It's your conformation anyway, getting you here safely was my job. If things do get too harry in there, make your way back out and I'll help patch ya up and help you regroup though."
She does take her backpack but rummages for a few things that may help you out.
"I've got one more tanglefoot bag and alchemist fire for you guys. Along with a scroll of mage armor and a vial of holy water. I didn't get that deep into the cave, and with how fast things change around here, who knows what you'll encounter."
She thinks for a second before pulling out a pair of wands from the bag as well.
"These are running low, but you're more likely to need them in there then I am out here. This one is burning hands, and this one is cure light wounds." she says handing over an ash branch (Burning Hands) and an ivory baton (CLW).

Mrachni accepts the wands and holy water, though he holds out the ash branch tentatively toward Darius. "Perhaps this would aid you more than the rest of us."
He waits for someone else to pick up the tanglefoot bag, alchemist fire and scroll of mage armor before nodding in satisfaction and turning to Janira. "When do you expect us to return? If you will be waiting out here"—he glances at the minotaur's corpse meaningfully—"we should perhaps try to hurry?"
| Pirate GM |
Janira responds
"I've got enough supplies to camp out for a few days but I wouldn't expect exploring the cave to go more than a handful of hours. Minotaurs tend to hunt alone so I'm not too worried about more company. If you guys are too taxed you could wait till tomorrow to go in, but tonight is your best chance to meet a Gilman. The choice is yours."
Gwynbel Tathdiir
|
"Thank you for the supplies, Janira. I'm sure they will come in handy, especially for our young tiefling friend. If you guys will excuse me for a minute, I need to go mix a potion. I worry it'll be all too necessary in this cave."
Gwynbel then moves off next to the cave wall, and sits down, pulling a set of beakers, vials, and reagents out. After a minute, a small buff of smoke appears above a vial, and Gwynbel has a satisfied look on his face.
Putting his gear away and standing up, he asks Janira: "Where will you be camped out? I'd like to leave some equipment back with you, to remain nimble."
Gwynbel Tathdiir
|
Gwynbel does so, and lets out a stretch now that his burden has been lifted.
"I believe I'm reading to venture in. I have some torches if anyone would like to carry them."

Heading into the cave...
Petroglyphs periodically decorate the tunnels' walls. Mostly depicting marine animals or spiral shapes. These pictograpgs provide a rough surface that apparently make a good home for fungi that both accentuate the pictographs and provide dim light.
Are you guys providing your own light source? Relying on the dim light of the fungi?
The cave is damp and stalactites drip water onto the ground. Additionally the eerie sound of running water in the distance grows gradually louder as you go deeper.
The narrow tunnel twists and turns for several hundred feet before slowly opening to a wider passage. A large hole spans the cave’s width and stretches ten feet down the path. At the bottom of the pit lies a small bundle of cloth in between several sharp looking stakes embedded in the ground.
The tunnel here is 10 feet wide and 10 feet tall with a ceiling mostly devoid of stalactites.

Darkvision here.
Mrachni looks down into the pit and winces. Motioning to the others, he points at himself and then down at the cloth bundle, mouthing the words, Should I go get it?
Harlbrount Keldermar

I thought I purchased a couple sunrods, but looking back, I did not. No light source here.
Harlbrount nods. I am ready.
As the party moves into the cave, Harlbrount peers around, bow in hand.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Glancing at Mrachni, Harl nods and lifts his bow, ready to provide a quick response, if needed.

I have torches, but also Lowlight vision, so I can probably see just fine. I can give one to Harlbrount.

Gwynbel looks around, wary for traps. The spiked pit is too obvious. There must be something else here... he thinks to himself.
Walking over to Harlbrount, he whispers a question on whether he needs a torch or not.
Gwynbel Tathdiir
|
"I have some rope, yes. I might have other ways to retrieve it without going down there, but rope would be the easiest."
Gwynbel takes a vial of acid out of his pouch, and hooks it to his overcoat for easier access. He then looks around for a place to tie the rope to, if the group decides to go that way.
"Any ideas on how to cross?"
Mrachni Swordfollower
|
"One of us will have to cross and tie the rope on the other side... perhaps collecting the bundle along the way. Is anyone very skilled at climbing?"
Gwynbel Tathdiir
|
Two ideas: get the log over here, and cross on that. it's slippery though, so we may get impaled. And I'm not sure how we'd get it across from one end only.
Other idea: We throw Janira across the 10' pit. She's probably 50 pounds with gear on, and we have enough strong people to probably clear the pit. She then ties a rope, and we get across.
Gwynbel whispers to Darius, "Young mage, do you have any spells that can help move the cloth from a distance?"
Gwynbel Tathdiir
|
Darius, do you have any spells other than the ones you've prepared today? If you have any on the alchemist list, I wouldn't mind staring at your book tonight.

As Gwynbel is passing the petroglyphs, he stops to study them for a bit to see if he can make anything like a narrative from them.

"Darius, my boy, do you plan on taking the notes from this expedition as we go about it, or after the fact?

Seeing the more studious members taking note, Harl mentally chastises himself and moves back into the tunnel to make some rubbings of the petroglyphs. Ur..perhaps we can collaborate once we finish this endeavor, you know, compare notes?
| Pirate GM |
No narrative present in the pictographs, just pretty pictures of aquatic life and spirals.
Rubbings of the petroglyphs is probably a good thing to collect for the Pathfinder Society.
Mage Hand easily lifts the bundle of cloth out of the pit.
It has a clasp, a spiral design and appears to be a cloak. There does not appear to be anything else of value in the pit.

Mrachni nods at Harlbrount. "If you can jump across that and tie off, I can tie this end off on that... point... back there." He nods back about thirty feet, indicating a sturdy-looking stalagmite.

Halbrount nods, taking an end of the knotted rope, he gets a running start and leaps across the pit.
