Val takes in the situation at a glance...if they can clear the field quickly, they can stop the robed one from freeing whatever is in the cage. With the two beasts grappled they'll be less able to dodge...

He quickly removed his Star Knife holy symbol from his neck, mutters a quick prayer to Desna, and the symbol catches with holy flame. He shouts a war cry, and mimics spiking the holy symbol to the ground...and a pillar of holy fire lances down from the sky, seeming to follow the motion and engulfing the grappled duo!

    Flame Strike: 9d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 4, 2, 6, 4, 1, 1) = 25 <--ref DC 20 (don't forget -4 dex!!)

Donning the smoking symbol again, he limbers his bow...

Omrax will stride boldly forth, towards the warrior looking creature. His eyes with grim determination, as if he has waited his life for this moment.

"By the might of the Inheritor, I will smite thee! You shall perish for your crimes and the evil you have wrought."

Double move 40' and smite evil. AC=32 vs scaly warrior.

You strike out for the Menagerie. A shifting mass of tents and canvas tarpaulins covering dozens of pens and enclosures of varying sizes is pressed up against the lodge’s western wall. Wagons bearing food and supplies brought in from the city are parked nearby. Other wagons contain caged enclosures like those that used in a traveling circus.

Larger tents cover metal cages of enormous size. To the east, the grass is compacted from regular foot traffic to the training grounds. A trio of creatures run amok in the menagerie area. They're humanoid looking beasts. Two of them wear robs, but the third looks like a warrior of skill bearing a longsword and shield.

When they see you the warrior and a robed one move to meet you while the other stays behind trying to open a cage which contains a massive beast.

    The enemy closes with confidence.

The robed one who stayed behind tries to jimmy the lock, but doesn't spring it yet.

The robed one approaching takes out a scroll and castes a spell

The warrior creature uses his new-found speed and closes.

Angrid rises up into the air to get a full view of the battlefield.

Angrid, not wanting to deal with an escalating encounter decides to give the two spellcasters something to think about. Drawing a small octopus tentacle, he says a quick incantation, and with the right motions draws up a large area of black, writhing tentacles from the abyss.

Just the three of those winged creatures that caught the whole convocation by surprise. Hopefully there aren't any others of their ilk lurking nearby...

Zefnir slowly strides forth in Omrax's wake. Just walking for now as a Move.

Stopping a fairly discrete distance away, Zefnir raises his hands on high (one of them with the buckler resting upon his forearm, at the ready) and intones, "In the names of the Wandering Dreamer, the Ever-Fire of the Dawn, the Eternal Judge of All, the Dual Coupling of Sky and Sea, and the Watchful Guardian of the Woods- let the Heavens themselves give their blessings to our task!"

Zefnir casts Bless as a Standard (-1 1st level spell) with himself as the source point for the Bless. All Allies within 50 feet of him gets a +1 morale bonus to Attacks and Saves versus Fear effects, if applicable.

You flew 30ft. I don't think you need to make a fly check. If you had moved less than half speed (5 or 10ft) then you would need a DC 10 check. If you didn't move at all then the DC would be 15 to hover. Correct?

It's going to sound kind of crazy, but what if we were to "sweeten the pot", as it were, by offering some of the leftover items from the wyvarans not picked by us to those would-be glory hounds if they would kindly escort their civilian charges to the gate? Of course, this would be after we all have chosen out stuff that can be used from the pile. Of course, it goes without saying that all of us would have to be on-board with such a decision.

And speaking of choosing items at the finish of our last fight, Zefnir could probably temporarily use some of things, like one of cloak of resistance +2, one of the headband of alluring charisma +2, one of the amulet of natural armor +1, and one of the ring of protection +1. With a casting of Enhanced Diplomacy and the headband, this should give Zefnir at least a +16 for a diplomacy check.

I would imagine that Zefnir might try to suggest to the would-be glory-hounds that escorting Nigel would be a test to see if they are trustworthy enough to be given more responsibilities; that Nigel, being a close ally of the society and capable of heading to the gate on his own, but what if there was a possibility that Nigel might actually be evaluating their worthiness for some future possible Blakros-funded expedition? Lastly, Zefnir might take the chummy, looking out for each other tack, and sweeten the pot (if unanimously agreed upon) with the found items by suggesting that we all want to see each other be more glorious and the way to do that is by doing the escort task. Zefnir may even suggest having some of them stay while some of us (maybe Omrax and one other?) go help with the escorting so that "we can show our sincerity in helping one another by looking out for each other, just like an actual field mission". Will also try to play up that we are experienced in these matters, so we know of what we speak, even if religiously motivated as we mostly are. Of course, all this is dependent if they agree to such terms in the first place (or I end up botching that diplomacy check).

You could be right; I'm not all that clear on the fly skill stuff myself... always thought that it had to be rolled after each instance of flying regardless, but from what you're suggesting, the fly check only really applies on my next flight turn if I don't use the full fly movement then?

    Hey Everyone!

As I prepare for this special, I thought it might be helpful to make a post of specific advice. I'm guessing that if you're signed up for a high tier special, you're not new to PbP. If you ARE, PM me and I'll give you some great resources.

If you've never played an interactive, they are AWESOME. When played in real life, they are a cooperative game where every table effects every other table. At a convention like Gen Con they include multimedia, different people playing NPCs and interaction between tables.

THIS is the first time anything of the sort has been attempted via play by post. Some of the mechanics are still being hammered out, but rest assured we'll be ready. Some things you should keep in mind.

    1. Speed matters. I can post VERY frequently during the day. Between study halls, office hours, and lunch, expect me to respond to a post quickly. The PCs accumulate successes that help EVERY OTHER player, not just one party. (in general I also recommend the Android app "Wayfinder" which allows for convenient posting from a phone.)

    2. High level is slow. Monsters, spells, abilities, tactical options, etc make it harder to be succinct. If you're making a social interaction, and you KNOW I'm going to call for bluff/diplomacy/intimidate check etc. Include it on your initial post. Also, don't be afraid to include "macro" style instructions. such as I make a full attack. I'll start with red, then move to blue if read falls..."

    3. Finally, please make sure your bar includes all the important stuff; HP, AC, touch, FF, Saves, etc.

For me it depends on the character and his personality / background. A day job is beneath this character. He is a full member of the Archanist's Circle in Kaer Maga and has much better things to do besides peddle wears.

Looks like a magic heavy party. I recommend you talk now about your preparations, since we're starting this coming Wednesday and we're diving right into it.

Well I say we all get to know the mechanics of our characters a little.

I am playing a bloatmage with foresight school. However, he focuses heavily on conjuration magic. He has a few gimmicks including always acting in the surprise round with both a move and a standard action, bloating which lets me cast more spells per day, standard action summoning, buffed out black tentacles, and persistent dazing aqueous orb.

Since I am playing with a group of godly characters I will try to keep the evil side of summoning to a minimum. Though summoning 1d3 babau in the surprise round for sneak attacks is fun.

I try to keep the collateral player damage to a minimum. However, I have some big area denial spells. So keep in mind that sometimes it may be best to delay and let me drop an area spell if we are in a big space and up against many enemies.

This is what I currently have memorized. Since we have two full divine casters there may be some overlap on some spells. Let me know what you have prepared so that I can maybe swap out a spell for something else.

Wizard Spells Prepared (CL 11th; concentration +18)
6th—analyze dweomer, greater dispel magic, summon monster VI
5th—dazing acid arrow, overland flight, telepathic bond, wall of stone
4th—arcane eye, black tentacles (2), dimension door, summon monster IV
3rd—mad monkeys[UM], nondetection, communal resist energy[UC], slow (DC 20), spiked pit[APG] (DC 21), stinking cloud (DC 21), tongues
    2nd—bear's endurance (2), create pit[APG] (2, DC 20), glitterdust (2, DC 20), see invisibility

My profile is up-to-date with equipment & spells for whomever cares.

I concentrate on healing and buffing (Bit of Luck, Blessing of Fervor, Prayer, etc). Bow is secondary--usually others take care of damage. If there's a "we must deliver this spell/effect to the bad guy" I'm a good choice because I've got True Strike prepped, and lots of mobility options.

Hey guys! Looking forward to getting started on Wednesday. I have a couple more things to hit on first:

    1. I'm going to be away at a Convention this weekend doing the VL thing. My posting is going to be spotty Thursday though Sunday. I'll post when I can, but I have an idea on how to make it work for part 1 (seeing as time and speed matter.)

    2. I need to know if these CHARACTERS have completed any of the following:

Pathfinder Society Scenario #6–00: Legacy of the Stonelords
    • Pathfinder Society Scenario #6–16: Scions of the Sky Key,
    Part 3: The Golden Guardian
    • Pathfinder Society Scenario #6–19: Test of Tar Kuata
    • Pathfinder Society Scenario#6–20: Returned to Sky
    • Pathfinder Society Scenario #6–21: Tapestry’s Toil

Just wanted to add that Zefnir's Initiative Modifier is +3 and his Perception is + 9. I've put in his stats from Hero Lab but will refine the listing as I go; consider it a rough draft of sorts.

    AID TOKENS

Once per encounter, any character at a table can use an Aid Token to assist the group in one of five ways described below. Once a table uses an Aid Token, the token grants no further benefit until the end of the encounter, at which point one of the players can pass the Aid Token to a neighboring table for them to use. It is very important that the players remember that there are a limited number of Aid Tokens, and hoarding one means that somebody else doesn’t get to use it. These these benefits can take one of the following five forms.

Aid Another: A Pathfinder agent helps you solve a puzzle, disable a trap, or accomplish some other task as if performing the aid another action. In Subtier 10–11, the bonus is +2.

Allied Offensive: A Pathfinder agent strikes a creature at
the same time as the PC, increasing the damage dealt by
one attack by 3d8 points. In addition, after the attack, the
target is considered to be flanked until the beginning of
    the attacker’s next turn.

Burst of Healing: A Pathfinder agent heals all of the PCs of 5d6 points of damage. Alternatively, in any subtier the agent can instead cast neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease with a caster level pf

Spellcasting Synergy: A Pathfinder agent casts a spell at the same time, increasing the save DC and caster level of a PC’s spell by 2.

Timely Inspiration: A Pathfinder agent provides the
effects of a bard’s inspire courage bardic performance (+3) for
    3 rounds.

Maaaaan...I have a feeling what our next "mission" is going to be--holding the Tapestry while Angrid closes it. This will be the closest I've yet come to using my boon "+2 hit/damage against Aspis agents in the Tapestry" but I fear it won't come about; that we'll be outside it holding against them coming out, rather than waiting just inside the tapestry.

    I hope I'm wrong. :-)
