Dupine is about to climb to the roof, when he realizes Bullwhip is just going to brute force his way in. So August drops into position to back him up.

Auri quickly casts a shield spell.

Hun draws his swords and lowers his stance in preperation for things to come...

Dungeon Master S |

The door opens to a similarly dressed Ulfen warrior, his axe at teh ready. No one is surprised:
Baddies: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Thiera: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Auriferous: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Hunwald: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Bullwhip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Dungeon Master S |

Inside is a pair of warriors. Atop a loft is another, though his garb and chanting marks him as more than a simple warrior.
Round 1:
Auriferous: Go
Hun: Go
Dupine: Go
Piper: Go
Baddies: TBD
Bullwhip: TBD
Thiera: TBD

Piper sees a rival spellcaster in the back, and moves to cut him off.
Silent Image for a wall of stone around the caster on the loft. DC 18 Will to disbelieve when he interacts with it.

![]() |

No one may be surprised, but flatfooted is nice too!
Dupine moves in, moving past the ulfen at the door to get behind him to setup flanking for Bullwhip. Then he kicks the big oaf in the back.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 (+2 for flanking? Not sure I can until Bullwhip moves)
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 3 + (1) = 9 non-lethal

Dungeon Master S |

Dupine dashes in to unleash a wicked hook kick to the lower spine. The hit is delivered perfectly and the man drops to the ground!

Dungeon Master S |

Oops, my bad. I missed Bullwhip's post. Technically speaking, not outside of combat. Still, you were ready, but the bad guy was too as he knows no one on his team would EVER open the door like that. I'd like to give it to you, but I have to go by the book.

![]() |

Is Red up still? I'm assuming not, if he is then Auri will do her attack against him rather than blue.
Stepping over the fallen warrior, Auri approaches his companion and slams the flat of her greatsword into him.
attack, NL: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 6 - 4 = 22

Only if Auriferous' attack doesn't knock the ulfen guard off his feet unconscious... Hun will move in and is not likely to spare an enemy's life, so his non-lethal is pretty lethal
Mstrwk Shortsword atk vs guard: 1d20 + 1 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 1 + 5 - 2 = 18
Damage ?: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Mstrwk Shortsword atk vs guard: 1d20 + 1 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 1 + 5 - 2 = 18
Damage ?: 1d6 ⇒ 1
If the guard is knocked out, the rogue will hide beneath the steps to the loft in order to sneak attack Bengeirr once he comes down (if he disbelieves Piper's wall)

Dungeon Master S |

Auriferous steps in and smack the guard so hard that it sounds like a melon bursting. The hit knocks him cold, but the way he's bleeding is a sure sign he's dying, not just unconscious. Hun slips in and hides under the stairs (make a stealth check.)
The man inside the "wall" gives a war cry to wake the dead. He then tries to bust his way out Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7. He's utterly convinced the wall is real so when he passes through it, he falls flat to the ground. With a curse he risks staying prone while casting a spell. A greatsword of force appears near the gnome he assumes is a VERY POWERFUL spellcaster. Atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 DMG: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6.
He is prone on the platform, so if you attack him from the stairs it's a +4. If you try to attack from below, he's flatfooted and has cover.

Piper takes a solid blow from the spiritual weapon, but she recognizes the spell. She hurls a spell of her own back at the enemy cleric (Blindness, DC 16 Fort), then dives behind the wall to break line-of-sight.
Breaking line-of-sight sends the spiritual weapon back to the cleric, so he'll need a move action to sic it on someone else. There's a lot of windows though, so I'll make a Stealth check to make sure he can't still see me.

Uhow high is the loft above the ground, and is there something for Hun to climb so he can stab at the Ulfin through the floor? (If the construction code of 1/4" gap between floorboards has been adheared to!):
If no climb:
Mstrwk Shortsword snk atk vs Beringerr: 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 1 + 4 = 24

Mstrwk Shortsword snk atk vs Beringerr: 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + 4 = 12
Damage ?: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + (2) = 6

Dungeon Master S |

You can jump up on a crate, but unfortunately your aim isn't quite up to the same code as the planks. You get your blade through, but it still hits the man's armor.

![]() |

Auri was striking with the flat of the blade, so he shouldn't normally be bleeding out from a NL hit should he? If he had 9 HP, he would have taken 9 NL damage, and then 8 lethal damage, leaving him on one actual HP, but unconscious from NL damage. To be on -8 he would have had to start on less than 5hp
Auri leaves the man, who she hopes is going to wake with no more than a bruise, and rushes up the stairs, somewhat slowed by her armour.

Dungeon Master S |

My bad. I registered the crit as confirmed.
The cleric sends the Spiritual weapon right over him at Thiera, 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 DMG: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2. He then risks standing up. (AoOs from Dupine, Thiera, and Hun)

AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Apparently, August gives the cleric a hand to help him up.

Dungeon Master S |

I thought it weird too... Let's get you back and hand your AoO to Bullwhip.

![]() |

He comes off the top turnbuckle to deliver his famous flying axe!
waraxe AoO (vs. prone): 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 4 = 10 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Alas, Bret Hart, he is not.

I added Auri to the map, as I couldn't see her. Stuck her up on the stairs
But I see my miss went to bullwhip. No loss there!

Once firmly footed on the crate, Hun pulls his other sword and attempts the double strike through the floor cracks into the Ulfin's back...

Dungeon Master S |

GM mistake, Hun's earlier hit DID make it through, as there's no climb to be had underneath and I used the wrong attack.
Hun stabs the northman through the slats, but one stab hits the wood.
Bullwhip and Thiera to finish Round 2.
Red: KOed
Blue: 1 (9 nonlethal)
Cleric: 24

Dungeon Master S |

Thiera's missile leaves the man staggered, but he shows NO signs of surrender. In fact, the look on his face is clear. Death is preferable.

![]() |

Out of combat!
Bullwhip gives the man his wish, death by combat. The other unconscious guards, not so much.
Hanging on a hook up on the loft is a large antique lantern.

"Let's tie up and bandage those that still breath. Hired thugs are just hired thugs, after all. No need making more enemies than necessary."
August Dupine then works to lower the lantern.

![]() |

Auri dashes across to the body of the man she assumes is Bengeirr, and checks it for signs of life.
"It would have been better to keep him alive.. Still what he did to Skelg was cruel. Dying over saving the life of his mother. Some things are just wrong."

Hun sheaths his blades and looks around for anything else of value, either to himself or possibly the Society writ large....

Piper rolls up her sleeves and regards the lantern. "Alright, let's have a look at you."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Dungeon Master S |

The lantern only gives off a faint aura of illusion. The fallen man's greatsword glows, little good it did him.
Hun finds a lockbox with Skelg's name on it. It looks like someone tried to pry it open recently to no avail. The lock doesn't look THAT good. It's almost like the attempt was hurried.

![]() |

"Well, let's just see what they were trying to get at."
Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Dungeon Master S |

It looks like loot from Skelg's plundering of the funeral ship.
There are carpets, urns, sculptures, and other works of art, weighing a total of 800 pounds and worth 3,000 gp. There's a smaller box next to the large chest. Inside is a pair of potions.

![]() |

So the spellcraft roll above not enough to identify more about the lantern?
Thiera continues her detect magic in an attempt to better identify the greatsword and potions.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

She looks to Piper. "Perhaps that battle rattled me more than I thought. What do you make of these things?"
