Gameplay thread.
Isabella Aldori |
Isabella enters the lodge. She looks around and seeing that she is the first one to arrive she slowly moves around the room, looking at wall hangings and other art. She is a remarkable beauty and she moves with the grace of a cat. Her eyes never stay at the same spot long. She wears studded leather armor of good quality and make and has an Aldori Dueling sword strapped to her belt.
Grenda |
Sit down. says a dark voice from the doorway. A female dwarf in scale armor eyes Isabella for a second before entering and taking a seat. I can't abide fidgety people. She grumbles to herself as she removes the heavy flail hanging over her shoulder and rests it on the floor.
Isabella Aldori |
Isabella laughs "You call me fidgety? You should see my sister, she is always turning things over in her hands."
She approaches the dwarf and makes a curtsy "Well met, I am Isabella"
Grenda |
The dwarf gives the woman an odd look as she curtsies.
Grenda. I take it you can do more than that in a fight? That swords not just for show is it?
Grenda |
Humph! Afraid... You poor naive child. the dwarf shakes her head and gives Isabella a patronizing look, Why don't you go back to picking wildflowers and baking cookies with your mother. The real world is a dark and dangerous place and it is a lot darker and more dangerous than you can handle Miss.
Isabella Aldori |
Isabella's hand flies to her sword at the mention of her mother. She visibly restrains herself and then hisses "Don't you dare make any assumptions about my mother or my experience with the darkness in the world, dwarf!"
Grenda |
Grenda smiles darkly at the woman but does not say anything else. Pulling a wooden holy symbol from under her armor she begins to spin it between her fingers. There are images on both sides of the symbol, both depicting the ghostly image of a skull on a moon. As it is spun the skull seems to move as if it is speaking, but not sound can be hear coming from it.
Drystan Marnsson |
A dwarven man strides into the room, average in height (for a dwarf), but rather less stocky. He wears the clothes of an explorer, wears no visible armor, and carries few weapons: just a belt knife, a crossbow, and a utilitarian looking axe.
"Well met, fine ladies," Drystan says, running his eyes over them, assessing their capabilites, though he lingers noticably longer on his fellow dwarf. "Swords and scales, excellent, excellent... Keeps me away from the sharp claws and pointy fangs." He emits a short bark of laughter, smiles widely, and bows, continuing, "My name's Drystan, son of Marn, and I specialize in exploration, especially finding that what's hidden, and trap removal. Pleased to make your acquaintances."
Grenda |
Grenda the female dwarf replies, meeting Drystan's look with cold eyes. 'Exploration, finding what's hidden, and trap removal' but how are you with rats though? Apparently that is why we have been summoned; A rat problem. she adds in a dry, almost mocking tone, looking from the new arrival to Isabella.
Isabella Aldori |
Isabella curtsies "Well met Drystan, it is refreshing to meet a dwarf who knows his manners. Don't we all specialize in exploration, cooperation and reporting?" she replies.
Grenda |
Grenda give the human another smile. So, it this it?
Grenda |
Grenda stands up and stretches. I wonder if the mission was cancelled?
Are we waiting on people or is GMTrex still buried with real life stuff?
Isabella Aldori |
"They are probably testing our patience" Isabella replies smiling innocently
Both I guess. If I remember correctly we had a full table at sign-up, so we miss 3 players and a GM.
Grenda |
I emailed the GM, haven't heard back yet. It looks like he hasn't posted since the 1st. His other game City of Strangers only had 2 people dot the gameplay thread so they're missing 4 people as well.
Have you played the City of Stranger's Arc?
Grenda begruggingly chuckles at Isabella's comment.
I think we are starting to understand each other.
Isabella Aldori |
Yes, I have played both City of Strangers. Pity that this game seems not to start, I would have liked to see how the relation between Grenda and Isabella evolves.
Grenda |
Yeah I would have too.
I was thinking we could try and combine the two table and then find a GM. Not sure if anyone on the other table would be able to pay Devil though. I'll wait until Monday and then I haven't heard from GMTrex I'll see what I can pull together.
Isabella Aldori |
Have you played City of Strangers? I can run that one. Or I could run Murder on the Throaty mermaid. See you got that on your wish list. Let's wait until Monday indeed.
Drystan Marnsson |
I'm also Luc San Tayne over at the other table
GMTrex |
Hey folks! I'm here, finally. My job is over and I am back to normal. I am finishing up reading through the scenarios and will make the getting start posts today or tomorrow.
In the meantime, I am wrangling the rest of our players in. Thanks for checking in so quickly and all the cheerful banter. =)
GMTrex |
PS I'm just noticing this now, but having a warpriest of Groetus for this series will be VERY interesting. I'm excited.
Kazzak Ebonheart |
Hey just saw this was getting started. Kazzak here is level 1 with 1 XP and ready to roll.
A large Half Orc with a sinister looking cat seated on his shoulder enters the meeting room and greats everyone with a not so warm smile.
Grenda |
Grenda hardly acknowledges the half-orc but gives his car a very nasty look.
@ GMTrex,
I created this character especially for that reason! Since Iron Man is 5th level and out beating up robots I wanted to have a character with a good tie into the scenarios.
Jamamros Samulkin |
Showing up a little late to the party, in walks a stout dwarf using a deadly looking scythe as a makeshift walking stick. Wearing a red robe with the hood drawn up, the dwarf puts off an uneasy vibe. Glancing around the room, he notices another dwarf, and more importantly Kazzak and his cat. Kazzak will be a good ally to have with us. More importantly, his cat is here.
Instead of introducing himself, the dwarf finds an empty seat in the room and sits down. He pulls out his wooden symbol and begins silently speaking to it.
Kazzak good to see you again. Jamamros underwent a change, I wasn't happy with how he played in the first game.
Grenda |
Grenda chuckles, seeming amused at the new arrival. Urgathoa, she mentions, more to her self than to anyone else, How... interesting.
Isabella Aldori |
I hope the stout folk do not mistake Isabella for snow-white ;-)
Great mix, dwarves and orcs...I hope the venture captain does not expect me to teach them manners.
Jamamros Samulkin |
We have 5...3 dwarves, I like it!
"Glad we meet again Kazzak" he says to the half-orc. He motions for Puss to come closer by making a click with his fingers, "And how are you today Puss?" he says as pats the feline on the head gently.
GMTrex |
Alright, we're at 5 players and a sixth should be joining shortly. As discussed, we're starting with Part II as a warm up (and to get it out of the way) then we'll do Part I, then finish out with III and IV. Let's get this party on the road!
Only a short walk across Cassomir is needed this time, and the group quickly arrives at their rendezvous. Venture-Captain Hestia Themis, a small, dark-haired, and dark-eyed Taldan woman, sits behind her enormous blackwood desk in the (other) Pathfinder lodge in Cassomir and clears her throat. “My friend, the Countess Arieta Patrizia, is dead. She escaped her capture by the fiends who operate beneath Cassomir only to succumb to disease and wounds incured in Cassomir’s disgusting sewers. Ordinarily, this would be a matter for the Taldan authorities, but Arieta came to me directly after escaping and recounted a story that leads me to the natural conclusion that only the Pathfinder Society can resolve this issue.”
Venture-Captain Themis rises and paces back and forth behind her desk. “Arieta told me of an artifact she saw while in captivity below Cassomir. This artifact, called the jet rat, is known to us, but we must confirm that what she saw is indeed true. She claims to have seen it transform normal rats into something bigger, more vile and mean. If that’s true, the artifact she saw down there is old, evil, and should be stored safely in the vaults beneath the Grand Lodge in Absalom where we can study, catalog, and examine it. Worse, she claims to have seen this object in the hands of the derros, vile Darklands creatures that we have long suspected are responsible for the Cassomir kidnappings. I have a map here that shows the location of the sewer grate Arieta was dropped through when she was kidnapped. She could not, due to her illness, recall much about how she got to the location where they kept her in captivity, but she knows where they dropped her into the sewers and you’ll find that location on this map.”
Venture-Captain Themis stops pacing and eyes you across her desk. “Bring me back this artifact—if you happen to free a few captured Taldans along the way, that’s good news, but the artifact is your mission. Any questions?”
GMTrex |
Everyone please take a moment to glance over at the Discussion tab as well.
Kazzak Ebonheart |
Look but don't touch master Dwarf! Kazzak remarks with a twisted grin then he looks to the venture Captain.
What would Derro be doing around here? he inquires.
Isabella Aldori |
"Err, excuse me Venture-Captain? You mentioned kidnappings by fiends operating from below Cassomir? Can you tell us more?"
GMTrex |
"Derros are often slavers, and we think they may be behind the spike in kidnappings around Cassomir in these last few weeks. Citizens have been disappearing, more often than usual, and very often from the imperial naval yards. That was not the case for Arieta, however, and I would like you to follow her particular trail. This jet rat artifact is too dangerous to leave in the hands of the Darklands folk for too long."
Miaka Oinari |
Some time after the briefing has concluded ... a young kitsune wanders in looking confused. Dressed in a threadbare monk outfit, the only visible weapon she carries seems to be a beautifully crafted bow.
"I seem to be lost. Could you kindly direct me to VC Hestia's briefing room please?"
Drystan Marnsson |
"You're there, fox," Drystan replies to the newcomer, then turns back to the venture captain. "You have any more information about this 'artifact,' Venture Captain?"
GMTrex |
"Not really. We have known of the artifacts existence for some time, and its known powers match Arieta's description. But you must verify her story."
Isabella Aldori |
"No time to waste then, lets go" Isabella says.
On her way out she walks to the kitsune and curtsies "Well met, I am Isabella"
Grenda |
Quiet through the briefing Grenda gets up and follows Isabella out the door. And they call me cold and Heartless... She says to no one in particular.
Miaka Oinari |
"Well met, I am Isabella"
Miaka bows in return to Isabella's greeting.
"Thank you Isabella. I am called Miaka. I am shamed to have missed the briefing. Could you tell me about it on the way please?"Jamamros Samulkin |
"So travel beneath Cassomir to deal with some fiends, all to retrieve an artifact that is known to exist but no one has seen? Sounds like a good time" Jamamros says mostly to himself. With that, the dwarf gets up and exits the room.
GMTrex |
We have a full team of six! Let the long adventure begin! Please include in your very next post any purchases you wish to make in Cassomir before adventuring.
Following the VC's instructions, you cross town to a very specific sewer grate. Pulling it aside reveals murky puddles that dot the tile floor some twenty feet below. The floor gently slopes toward the room’s center, where some of the puddles are very slowly draining into a large, 10-foot-by-10-foot drain. Thick, sticky webs cover most of the corners of the room, and several large vermin appear to be caught in the webs. The sound of running water can be heard to the north.
There is no ladder of any kind, and the room below is very very dark.
Grenda |
the room below is very very dark.
Even for a dwarf?
Grenda peers down into the hole, Any of you lot bring rope?Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
GMTrex |
Nope, not too dark for a dwarf!
Miaka Oinari |
Miaka will cast her dancing lights (1/3) into the room to see what she can see ...
"Unfortunately I do not carry any rope."
Isabella Aldori |
"Of course I brought rope, and some torches too" Isabella says cheerfully. She takes her rope and ties some knots in, binds it to a suitable place and lowers it into the sewers.
"Do you want to go first?"
Kazzak Ebonheart |
Torches? Kazzak inquires with a smile. Who needs torches? Then the powerful half orc helps his fellow pathifndeers down by holding Isabella's rope.
Grenda |
After you Isabella. Grenda says graciously. I'd watch out for spiders though. The dwarf adds with a sinister smile.
