Jobo |
Jobo stays enraged and steps back 15' and jabs again at the left troll while squeezing past Lorelei. I moved Lorelei up one square too .
Jobo remembers glaive hits at 15' and 20' while big - dead spot is 5' and 10'. He can best protect Lorelei from 20' away from trolls.
Last time he tried to hit to hard, he missed, but how can barbarian not hit hard Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 dam 2d8 + 13 ⇒ (3, 4) + 13 = 20
GM post |
Betholdt steps up and flails about with his shortswords, though it seems he is quite distracted.
Jobo steps back, ushering Lorelei with him. He hits the left troll pretty hard, a large gash appearing from its right shoulder to left hip. He glares at Jobo, then looks back at Drakr with a grin…
I will slot in the actions of Lorelei and Grobnar as needed.
Lorelei |
While hoping that the barbarian isn't clumsy enough to step on her during all this moving around, Lorelei fires off an acid dart at one of the trolls.
1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 4 = 14

Pedro Thornfoot |
Taking advantage or his position, Pedro performs a double tap of his own. If the troll moves, and Pedro can't re-flank him with a 5'Step, he'll just move, and make the 1st attack.
1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 23 Attack (TWF, Flanked, Inspired)

GM post |
Recapping the second(?) round of combat.
The trolls both took a five foot step, had a little chat, and then bit and clawed at Drakr but couldn’t get through his armour.
Pedro moves in to attack the left troll with his urgosh, risking an attack to do so, and gives him a decent slash.
Conner conjures a small storm which batters the right troll with his own personal cloud of doom.
Bertholdt swings his two swords at a troll, but can’t seem to get the combination right.
Grobnar continues to sing, his awesome song bolstering his allies. Don’t forget your +1 to attack and damage and saves vs fear and charm.
Lorelei creates an acid dart and fires it at the left troll – it’s a hit!
Jobo gives the troll on the left a gash from his shoulder to hip.
Drakr moves from being flanked and hacks into the pin cushion (left troll).
More to come soon.
Trolls |
The Left troll is knocked unconscious.
Troll can regenerate. Certain attack forms, typically fire and acid, cause a troll’s regeneration to stop functioning on the round following the attack. During this round, the creature does not heal any damage and can die normally.
This means that the troll on the left, now unconscious, will not be regenerating any damage caused to it in this coming round (round 3).
The troll from under the bridge gets back to his feet (provoking an AoO from Jobo).
Sorry, Jobo, I am rolling this for you to see if he survives.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
2d8 + 13 ⇒ (6, 6) + 13 = 25
…but it is a miss.
He moves in support of his brother (though he has no actions left to actually do anything. He has Stood from Prone – Move – and Moved again.)
The troll on the top-right moves to Grapple Drakr, provoking an AoO from Bertholdt which I would like to resolve now too.
Bertholdt: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 A hit!
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Grapple vs CMD 18: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Though he can’t quite get a hold.
The trolls now seem a lot more serious, worried even, and do not engage in banter.
Drakr |
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Would Drakr get an AoO from the grapple attempt?
Just incase: Atk: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Jobo |
For the first time since passing from cub to warrior in the barbarian ranks, Jobo find himself in the heat of battle. He feels his range comes with added powers that he can channel himself. As the troll moves one step closer to Lorelei, Jobo feels he must protect her. He finds, to his delight, he can. When enraged he can react to others threatening him and his friends more often.
Conner Nuadha |
Knowledge(local) 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Knowledge(nature) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Conner grimaces at the trolls as they seem able to withstand so much damage. He softly calls upon the power of nature and, in his open hand, suddenly cups a burning flame that seems to do no harm to him or his clothing. He throws the cleansing flame at the nearest troll, and another ball of fire appears in his hand as soon as the first is thrown.
Ranged touch attack on troll in Q9, including bard song for hit and -4 for firing into melee (if that applies to spells, don't remember) 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 1 - 4 = 15
Damage with bard bonus 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Bertholdt Escheus |
I believe it's my turn... Not sure what the tiny troll means.
Bertholdt sidesteps to his right and tries to find an opening as the gigantic Jobo occupies the beast's thoughts.
TWF, sneak attack w/ flank and IC:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18; 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 2) + 3 = 11
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9; 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 5) + 3 = 9
Likely 11 damage.

Not that it really matters cause I probably missed, but this attack was against the southern most troll that just got up. I just reread my post and realised it wasn't really clear where Drakr was swinging his axe.
GM post |
Pedro is able to slash with both weapons at the troll that is flanked with Bertholdt and Drakr. He hits twice, the second a critical which spills the intestines of the troll. This troll lands face down in a puddle of his own… too graphic, you don’t want to know.
Conner cleverly casts a small fire spell that is unique to druids. He flings a small ball of flame at the troll that came out from under the bridge. Unfortunately, the troll ducks under it and it wobbles off to harmlessly dissipate on the dew-wet grass.
Bertholdt smiles as Pedro drops a troll using a similar fighting technique with two blades. He steps south-east over an unconscious troll to attack the one from under bridge.
Grobnar stays out of harm’s way and bolsters his allies with his song.
Lorelei sends another acid dart at a different troll, which is a wise move against these monsters.
Jobo hesitates, lost in a daydream of…
Sorry, but I didn’t see an attack post for you, only the AoO, and it really doesn’t matter much at the moment. Read on.
Drakr can’t quite get at the trolls, though it doesn’t matter as…
The trolls are unconscious. They have taken grievous wounds, though you can see the one that has not been hit by Lorelei’s acid darts is healing before your eyes, and soon enough the other two will begin to regenerate as well.

Assuming the old cleave move works at -2 and +4 for down.
Bertholdt Escheus |
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
"They are regenerating! They'll be up in about twenty seconds or so. Hurry, keep them from healing! This one is about to come back!"
Bertholdt will coup de grace the troll at his feet.
Critical damage and sneak attack: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 5, 2) + 3 = 11
The Left Troll is closest to come back. We have about three rounds.
Lorelei |
Heal (untrained) 1d20 ⇒ 8
Aeeacks made with assumption they are still in melee and prone:
1d20 + 5 - 4 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 4 + 4 = 20

1d20 + 5 - 4 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 5 - 4 + 4 = 13
damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Shrugging her shoulders, Lorelei will go ahead and fire off another acid dart into the two trolls Jobo indicates and then watches as he cleaves into them.
I suppose it doesn't hurt to play it safe. We don't want theses creatures getting back up behind us.
Conner Nuadha |
Heal 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Conner will calmly walk up to the nearest troll that Lorelei isn't targeting with acid. Then he will take a full-round action to coup de grace the troll with the flames around his hand.
Auto crit of fire damage 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
Once he is done, the flames disappear from his fist.
Lorelei |
"Well, I suppose we should move the bodies off the road and then hurry on with our mission. We still have some men to hopefully rescue."
Turning to Jobo she'll comment, "You fight well as a giant Jobo."
GM post |
Keeping things moving along...
You drag the bodies off the bridge and off the road. You make a pile of firewood in one of the camping area fire pits, light it, and dump the body parts into the fire. All this work takes an hour before you are happy that the fire is burning well, and is contained.
It is dawn. The sun's light is illuminating your world, and the Great Orb itself will soon be seen on the Eastern Horizon.
Having walked all winter-night long after a normal day of doing whatever you normally do, and fighting off fearless (if young) trolls, a Forced March Constitution Check is in order. Being generous, I am calling for a
DC 12 Constitution check now,
and a DC 14 Constitution check at the base of Thaldor's Pass, one hour from here.
Each fail results in 1d6 non-lethal damage (you roll it please) and you are Fatigued (can neither Run nor Charge, and take a -2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity).
Please make a Perception check and discus your Marching Order to travel up the pass, which is 8' wide most of the way, with large areas cut into the escarpment's cliff face for wagon's to turn.
A character can walk for more than 8 hours in a day by making a forced march. For each hour of marching beyond 8 hours, a Constitution check (DC 10, +2 per extra hour) is required. If the check fails, the character takes 1d6 points of nonlethal damage. A character who takes any nonlethal damage from a forced march becomes fatigued. Eliminating the nonlethal damage also eliminates the fatigue. It's possible for a character to march into unconsciousness by pushing himself too hard.
Lorelei |
Lorelei was walking during the night to help stay warm, during the day she would ride her horse when she got tired. Do I still need to make any rolls?
Perception check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Lorelei is still near the back of the party.
Drakr |
Drakr stands huffing and puffing after dragging the bodies of the trolls over to the fire pit, warming his hands and wrinkling his nose at the smell.
Con check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
"Nice ta get the chill out of ya bones." He states gruffly. "But We had better get up this mountain and find these missing men."
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
As for marching order Drakr will resume his place as rear guard.

Lorelei is quite obviously feeling the cold now and has dug out a blanket from her pack and draped it over her shoulders as she slumps tiredly on her horse.
"At this point I wouldn't be adverse to a little rest and warm up before we continue. Has anyone noticed any signs of recent travel on this road?"
