"BAH, I will have you know I am an expert shot aand that arrow pierced right though his heart long afore you even got there." Says the little gnome in response he mumbles some and complains quietly to himself before turning back to the rouge "Split the riches?"
Don't forget your alignment.
The goblin has his filthy, punctured leather armour. His small bow and the arrows wer nothing special even before they were broken. His sword couldn't be sold for love nor money. Pinned to his leather armour is a silver brooch - an oak leaf about 1" in diameter.
He owns [owned] a small coin purse on his belt which contains 7 cp, and a goblin luck charm: small jade carving - a goblin face with its oversized tongue poking out.
Grobnar Spinfoodle |
Finding nothing special about it he finally says. "Nice brooch." and puts it on if none object.
He stands and returns to the others. "Don you worry blokes me and my bow took care of it nonetheless there are people in need and we should be off as soon as we can." That's how he explains the whole situation.
GM post |
Is Goblins on the pass a particularly unusual thing?
Cedarwood is occasionally harassed by orcs, goblins, kobolds, or trolls (in that order). Verdihold, the local man-at-arms, and his men usually repulse them with little trouble, and only a few sheep or pigs are lost in any one year.
Don't forget to metagame what your character knows from the Appraisal.
And I forgot to add:Drakr |
"Humph, if there's a goblin on the pass we should probably make sure it's not part of a camp... But we should keep the lost men as our first priority for now."
Drakr |
Drakr is ready to move on and happy with the marching order
"If we make enough racket the goblins will probably come to us and if we look mean enough they may even cut thier own heads off" Drakr says with a grim sort of smile "Let's mark this spot though so we can check it out later."

Eventually, in the soft light of false dawn everything beyond your light sources (or limit of darkvision) can be seen again, though it now looks soft, hazy, and black-and-white.
As you crest a hill the monument can suddenly be seen about 100’ ahead. It is 20’ tall statue of a dwarf casually holding a war-axe over his shoulder and a shield on his other arm. He appears relaxed, walking it would seem, with his chin high and his brow furrowed as he peers into the distance. This dark-blue stone statue stands upon a plinth of a single piece of white marble which is 6’ tall. You know this is the monument to Thaldor who cleared the area of monsters and settled. He maintained the peace in this region for almost 300 years before he passed away.
There is a wooden bridge with a gentle arc crossing a slow running and shallow creek. The spring-melt will soon bring this creek to near bursting. The bridge is just wide enough for the largest wagons to pass. It is also well maintained and sturdy, though it has no hand railing. A fish jumps from the water just under the bridge.
[Bridge is 10’ above the water which is 2’ deep.]
It will be a beautiful, sunny day.
The banks on the creek are quite steep having been cut through from fast flowing snow-melt (Climb DC 8), except on eastern side of far shore where it has been dug out into a shallow beach. A small horse yard has been built there that extends into the water so that horses can be watered without running off. To the north-east is a camping area where small semi-permanent fireplaces have been built of stone. From here it is a full two days travel to Vigil, so many will camp here for the night, and travel to Cedarwood the next morning.
It is currently deserted.
You are still on the hill, 100’ from the monument.
Double check the map, scroll down, to make sure you are happy with your marching order.
Unless someone wants to perform some rash action I will move the group up on the map shortly.
Roll Initiative and Perception checks for me please, though I can’t promise combat starting immediately.

Lorelei nods with Pedro's assessment. "I think you are right Pedro. Though it doesn't look like we can get under the bridge until we reach the far side of the bridge. Maybe we should just act like we don't suspect anything and just go down to the shore over there and water our horses like any other typical group of travelers and then try to sneak over and see what was down there?"

"Alright, but make it quick."
Drakr will give them a head start and then start to move in. Keeping a distance of 40ft if that's enough for Pedro and Bertholdt

yes, you can look at the spoiler. I try to put Perception and Knowledge and whatever else I can think on the boards on advance to keep the game moving. I should've thought of Tracking though...
Wow, natural 20. Here goes then. Combining with more info from the Know Nature roll. I'm probably giving away too much, but a natural 20 deserves a bit more.
You don't have to move far to see that this is a very commonly used road, though it hasn't seen anyone passing for a few days. However, recently a humanoid of some kind has been moving about around here, before heading for the bridge. It is difficult to work out what species this humanoid is: it has clawed toes, and sometimes it's clawed hands drag along the ground besides it's footprints, which reminds you of a troll. But, the behaviour seems to be erratically wandering about (trolls are usually straight to the point), there is two or three (trolls are usually solitary males or travel as a tribe of protective 'mothers' and their young in these parts), and the size is odd (these are not full sized trolls, probably the young, but where are the mothers?!).
GM post |
Grobnar:
You wander about with Detect Magic active, looking for auras. You naturally enough head towards the bridge, it being the central focus of what is around, and it is down hill-people always end up heading downhill.
Knowing that that the others believe that maybe there's something hiding at the bridge, you approach it cautiously.
You come to 60' from the far end of the bridge.
There are no magic auras to be seen.
GM post |
Pedro and Bertholdt, and then Drakr, quietly head toward the bridge.
However, Conner has spotted some tracks, and knowing that this info can be very helpful, they give the Druid time and space.
Grobnar takes this opportunity to skull about looking for magic auras.
Lorelei hangs back, allowing the others to do what they are best at. Unfortunately for her, to Jobo this means staying near Lorelei.
Jobo |
"Lorelei, zap me with the wand when I get close the bridge. This sounds like a job for BIG JOBO. By the way, I know you are familiar with magic, but I had to find out to my surprise on BIG JOBO, everything is big. Yes, of course I mean my greatsword and glaive are big too."
Jobo pulls out his glaive and heads into battle.
Conner Nuadha |
The druid looks up from his study of the ground to stare at Jobo for a moment then back at the tracks. He shares his findings with the others and then stops for a moment. Now that he has moved closer, something else is obvious.
"There is someone hiding under the bridge. Be they friend or foe, I cannot tell."
GM post |
Yes, lets get this happening in initiative order. I should've said that a few hours ago.
I don't think we are going to have a surprise round, since you noticed the subtle splash that was not a trout, and the other clues.
.
Here's how I have recorded the initiative list:
Bertholdt
Grobnar
Lorelei
Jobo
Drakr
Pedro
Conner
????
.
It would be great if you could post in order, but I understand RL doesn't always work like that. I will try to resolve posts in the initiative order.
We are exploring the possibility of someone under the bridge.
I've made some movements on
The Map,
feel free to move your PC on your turn.
Grobnar (cool song), I'm willing to rewind the beginning of your song if you like, since I am now officially staring combat rounds.
GM post |
Would me starting my song be my action or did that count as before combat?
Since you only have 10 rounds per day, let's carefully count how many rounds you use up. You can use it as your action, or you can choose something else.
It is a Standard Action to start a Bardic Performance.Grobnar Spinfoodle |
I had forgot it is rounds per day in pathfinder guess it was cheap in 3.5 that by 20 you could use perfomance like 20 or more times per day :)
Anyhow seeing as there are no enemys really as of yet Grob will not start his performance just yet but move to a nearby hiding position were he can see what it is under the bridge.
Stealth:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Lorelei |
Lorelei gives Jobo a look after his last comment, trying to figure out if he meant more than what he said. Deciding she doesn't want to know what he meant, she just follows him and zaps him with his wand.
Lorelei will delay her action until right after Jobo goes and will follow right behind him and zap him with his wand as requested when they get close to the bridge.
