Bertholdt

Jobo

The Map, .

Male Human Barbarian 3

Jobo wants action - heading to Q16, which is approximately a move-move = 60'. He wants to poke something with his glaive. I don't think he'll charge with no target. Jobo plans to be MAD BIG JOBO at the first sign of something to bash.

Bertholdt delays until the bigger guys who wish to poke find something to poke at.

Female Undine Cleric / 4 || Init: +1 / HP: 23/23 // AC: 14 / FF: 13 / Touch:11 / Saves: F: +4, R: +2, W: +8

Lorelei will also do a double move to stay behind Jobo. Not ony does she plan to make him big if they find an enemy to fight, he's probably a good person to hide behind.

AC: 18 | HP: 19/19 | Init: -1 | Perc: +3 (PP: 13) | HD: 2/2d8 | Spell Slots: 1st: 3/3 | Inspiration: [_] | Saves: S: +2, D: -1, Co: +2, I: +1, W: +5, Ch: +2 | War Preist: 3/3 | Channel Divinity: 1/1

Drakr moves up to beside the bridge and shouts "Come out and fight with honor, or hide and die like a coward! It's all the same to me." and he bashes his axe against his shield CLASH!

I've moved my avatar on the map I believe it was only 40'

Male Human Druid 3

Conner moves up near the others, staying by a bush in case he needs to take cover.

You all read the info revealed to Conner and Gronar, right? It is spoilered here for easy reference.

Info from Grobnar and Conner:

There are no Magic Auras seen by Grobnar.
Conner: You don't have to move far to see that this is a very commonly used road, though it hasn't seen anyone passing for a few days. However, recently a humanoid of some kind has been moving about around here, before heading for the bridge. It is difficult to work out what species this humanoid is: it has clawed toes, and sometimes it's clawed hands drag along the ground besides it's footprints, which reminds you of a troll. But, the behaviour seems to be erratically wandering about (trolls are usually straight to the point), there is two or three (trolls are usually solitary males or travel as a tribe of protective 'mothers' and their young in these parts), and the size is odd (these are not full sized trolls, probably the young, but where are the mothers?!).

Previous Descriptions of things on the map:
Eventually, in the soft light of false dawn everything beyond your light sources (or limit of darkvision) can be seen again, though it now looks soft, hazy, and black-and-white.
As you crest a hill the monument can suddenly be seen about 100’ ahead. It is 20’ tall statue of a dwarf casually holding a war-axe over his shoulder and a shield on his other arm. He appears relaxed, walking it would seem, with his chin high and his brow furrowed as he peers into the distance. This dark-blue stone statue stands upon a plinth of a single piece of white marble which is 6’ tall. You know this is the monument to Thaldor who cleared the area of monsters and settled. He maintained the peace in this region for almost 300 years before he passed away.
There is a wooden bridge with a gentle arc crossing a slow running and shallow creek. The spring-melt will soon bring this creek to near bursting. The bridge is just wide enough for the largest wagons to pass. It is also well maintained and sturdy, though it has no hand railing. A fish jumps from the water just under the bridge.
[Bridge is 10’ above the water which is 2’ deep.]
The banks on the creek are quite steep having been cut through from fast flowing snow-melt (Climb DC 8), except on eastern side of far shore where it has been dug out into a shallow beach. A small horse yard has been built there that extends into the water so that horses can be watered without running off. To the north-east is a camping area where small semi-permanent fireplaces have been built of stone. From here it is a full two days travel to Vigil, so many will camp here for the night, and travel to Cedarwood the next morning.
It is currently deserted.

Bertholdt readies his shortswords.
Grobnar moves into hiding, hoping to catch a glimpse of what lies beneath the bridge.
GM reference:
Stealth:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Jobo moves ahead, as does Drakr, and Lorelei follows the Barbarian. There is a tangible sense of smashing about these two males.
Conner moves up, though more wary than smashy.
Pedro sneaks up for closer look.
GM secret rolls:

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Grobnar and Drakr are in the better positions to see what is under the bridge – and yet they can make out nothing due to the dim light of newly dawning day and the shadows formed by the bridge. There is no sounds that belies the presence of people, though the lack of sounds points to it clearly (as some have pointed out).

Perception DC 23 AND you are in a position to see underneath the bridge:
There is one humanoid figure crouched in the water at the far end of the bridge. It is well hidden, and seems oblivious to the obvious cold of the water. It is listening, turning its head from side to side occasionally. It seems to lie in wait, facing the shallow beach area.

I like the idea of posting actions in turn, though RL doesn’t always allow it, I know. However, note, that if you have a question or need clarification or a correction, ask it out of turn.
Speaking is a Free Action that can be taken out of turn.
BUT, be aware that it points out where you are, if you are trying to be sneaky about where you are. NPCs make Perception checks too, you know.

The Map

Grand Lodge

Grobnar readies his shortbow and tries to concentrate on what is under the bridge.

Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Bertholdt moves up to Drakr to stand near the warriors. He takes out his second sword as he does so.

Male Human Barbarian 3

Jobo will nod to Lorelei and put his hand at his heigth and make it bigger. He starts a move to R13 and may continue to Q10. If he cannot attack from R13, he will continue across the bridge to Q10 to complete a move action, he will ready a jab attack with his glaive with 10' (20' big) reach at what he thinks are trolls. The first sign of any danger makes him enraged.

Male Human Barbarian 3

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Female Undine Cleric / 4 || Init: +1 / HP: 23/23 // AC: 14 / FF: 13 / Touch:11 / Saves: F: +4, R: +2, W: +8

Lorelei stays behind Jobo and taps him with his wand.

"Hupmh, can't see anything!

Not seeing anything under the bridge Drakr moves across the bridge to check out the other side.

Double move to Q7

Hearing footsteps (heavy and loud) upon the bridge, there is a roar and a splash.

”Yaaaaar!”

A troll bursts from the water, races up the shallow beach and attacks the dwarf. He sets himself for this foe, knowing deep in his heart that this is what he was born to do, that this troll doesn’t stand a chance…

”Yeeeeer! Легко еды, один жалкая мало серьезнее. Я не обмена с вами этот убоя.”

Giant Language:
An easy meal, one pathetic little dwarf. I'm not sharing this with you Slaughter.

”Yiiiiiiiiiiir! Не обращайте внимания на серьезнее, Мясник, еще более завтрак предстоящие через мост.”

Giant Language:
Never mind the dwarf, Butcher, there's more breakfast coming over the bridge.

Another two cry out and run from behind the monument, laughing with each other as they brandish their teeth and claws.

The trolls are about 5’ tall, though they are quite hunched over. Their hands end in terrible claws and its bestial face has gruesome teeth. One of them has a few crossbow bolts in its back, though this doesn’t seem to impair its movement at all. They move in at a rolling gait, eager to eat you, fearless and savage in their desperation.

Know (Nature or Local) DC 10:
These trolls are young, merely children by their species – pre-teen in parallel to humans. They should be accompanied by their tribe of mothers.

Know (Nature or Local) or Heal DC 15:
These trolls are starving. It seems that they haven’t eaten for several days, and they have injuries that have not healed.

Drakr, these desperate beasts bite at you savagely, though your armour has helped you a lot. You are now Flanked.
Bridge Troll
Bite 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Right Troll
Bite 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Left Troll, now flanking.
Bite 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 = 19
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Revised Initiative (They have used a Delay Action)
Bertholdt
Grobnar
Lorelei
Jobo
Drakr
Trolls
Pedro
Conner
We are up to Pedro

All other PC actions so far have taken place – people have moved forward and readied weapons. The Barbarian is now JOBO.

I have had to add a row to the very top of the map. This may cause some confusion regarding map references.
Hopefully it won't need to happen again.

Ha! It tries to speak the troll language.

Male Human Barbarian 3

Jobo sees monsters and his happy to fight. He admires the courage of the dwarf who moves with abandon into the battlefield.

Hoping to bash the nearest monster (unless his position grants cover, then he goes for the far left one).

"Must help brave dwarf."

Can my readied attack go with the reach? I don't think I can rage with a readied attack, but if I can I will.

Female Undine Cleric / 4 || Init: +1 / HP: 23/23 // AC: 14 / FF: 13 / Touch:11 / Saves: F: +4, R: +2, W: +8

"These trolls are just kids, you had best keep your eyes open for their mother."

Male Human Barbarian 3

I moved six squares forward and Lorelei followed (I moved both of us on the map). If I can I would enlarge forward as not to push Lorelei although the roleplaying effect might be nice to enlarge into her square. I don't know if I get any AoOs. I am not offended if GM rolls my attack and damage as he has to resolve many unknowns: enlarge or not (d10 vs 2d8) - cover or not - position of Jobo - AoO or not - readied attack goes or not - and if rage can go too (I think yes). I am glad the dwarf approves of the bridge construction, I think enlarged creaturs weigh much more.

Male Dwarven Ranger

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Perception
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Knowledge: Nature
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 Survival

Seeing one of his races hated enemies, Pedro begins to move forward to join the fray.

? +4 Dodge bonus vs. Giant type still apply?

GM

Spoiler:

sorry I'm a little behind here. Has the hummanoid figure that Pedro was able to spot under the far end of the bridge emerged, or is something still there? If it's still there Pedro will shout out a warning about it's presence.

When Bertholdt's turn comes up:
Wow, nasties! What are kids doing here??? Bertholdt makes a wide circle around the troll to end up behind it, now flanking with Drakr.

Grand Lodge

Grobnars turn when it comes run up beside Lorelei and start his performance.

Copper's good for making things,
But hardly fit for kings or popes.
Silver's good for chains and rings,
And also killing lycanthropes.
Electrum is a novelty,
But seems to lack a certain flair.
Platinum shines regally,
Nobility beyond compare.
Mithril is a magic ore,
So bright and difficult to scratch.
Gems that sparkle, I adore,
And jewelry can have no match.
But for a Grendl's happiness,
There's one more thing that I require;
One more thing I must possess,
To feed the flames of my desire.
Gold, I love the gleaming!
Gold, of you I'm dreaming!
Gold, for you I'm scheming!
Gold, for you I'm screaming!
I can't be happy 'til I've rolled
Through mounds and mounds of shining gold!
Gold gold gold gold gold gold gold!
Mine! It's all mine! Ha ha ha ha ha!

Jobo, yes, you can attack from there as a Readied action.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20, damage 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (4, 8) + 9 = 21

Jobo:
I think I'm being a bit generous here, as you didn't state you wanted a Ready Action. The implication is clear enough, and the mechanics would have worked easily: I move to R13 and make a Ready Action to attack (20' reach) or continue moving to Q10.
Entering Rage is a Free Action that can only be made on your turn, something you could've include in your Ready Action.

You also get an AoO:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26, damage 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (4, 6) + 9 = 19

Pedro, yes, that was the figure you saw in the shadows of the bridge. There is nothing/no one under there now.
Yes, your defensive bonus against Giant Type still applies.
Moving in to join the frey? A 20' move doesn't quite get you there...

Drakr, these trolls are Giants, racial bonus to AC and all that jazz.  I'm gonna struggle to even scratch you, but I'll try.

Conner's turn next.

Bertholdt, Your double-move seems fine.

Grobnar, your song will start soon.

Male Dwarven Ranger

I would have taken a double move to P11 since there was no other threat then. BTW I would have moved him myself, but can't select him at the moment.

Pedro Thornfoot wrote:

I'm on it. But I only see that as a single move action.

I meant last round instead of this round.

Round 1, HP 9/9
Dazzled, entangled

For example...before the post

Pedro, now I get it.

Male Human Druid 3

Conner moves up to join the others on the bridge.

Conner, don't forget you can move through an allies' square.
Though I realise that you have probable made a double move to get there anyway.

Okay, I've caught up on my tracking.
The troll from under the bridge that Jobo hit twice is down!
I've left him on the map, though I have reduced his size to help indicate that he is down.

Drakr, you are no longer Flanked.

AC: 18 | HP: 19/19 | Init: -1 | Perc: +3 (PP: 13) | HD: 2/2d8 | Spell Slots: 1st: 3/3 | Inspiration: [_] | Saves: S: +2, D: -1, Co: +2, I: +1, W: +5, Ch: +2 | War Preist: 3/3 | Channel Divinity: 1/1

I'm a little confused but I think it's my turn?
HP22/22
AC 25 (+4 Racial)

Drakr roars and attacks the troll that he and Bertholdt are flanking.

Atk with Power attack:1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 12+2 Flanking, +1 Bard song?
Dmg: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Male Human Barbarian 3

Jobo no longer feels a need to roll any of his dice now. He will always power attack unless otherwise stated and will have two AoOs (given his rage power) per round while enraged.

Drakr wrote:

The initiative order is:

Bertholdt
Grobnar
Lorelei
Jobo
Drakr
Trolls
Pedro
Conner
.
I believe we are back to Lorelei, as Bertholdt and Grobnar have posted actions (I think).
.
Jobo, I would prefer that you did roll your own dice. ;-)

Male Human Barbarian 3

I will roll my own dice on my turn. If only move and have a weapon in my hand, let's say hammer to throw or glaive to jab, I say ready an action to attack to keep my action in reserve? Got it.

Lorelei will hold off and let the melee fighters handle the last troll.

Last troll? I thought there were still two standing. Jobo only hit on of them twice.
I think that brings us full circle. I'll post for the trolls when the treadmill says I'm allowed to get off.

Male Human Barbarian 3

Sorry guess I'm just too sick to keep track of trolls. Stupid flu. I'll go ahead and cast.

Lorelei casts a magic missle at one of the trolls.
damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

The two trolls each take a 5’ step to be flanking Drakr.
”Легко еды, один жалкая мало еще предстоящие через мост. Легко еды Oдин жалкая мало серьезнее.”

Giant Language:
”If Ripper doesn’t live through this, we can eat him too. Hahahhahaha. He will be up in no time and that will surprise them!”

They fail to penetrate your armour as you dodge around them.

Giant Language:
”Let's try something different now."

Don't forget that Grobnar the Bard is singing for your benefit:

Pedro, the Troll slashes out at you as you scurry past.
AoO
Claw 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
But you are able to predict his move, through years of dwarven training against giant-types.

Male Human Druid 3

Conner steps to the end of the bridge and then points at the troll in R8 as he conjures forth a small storm to assail him.

Ranged touch 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Nonlethal damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Troll also takes -2 on attack rolls as a unnamed debuff

Conner's hand becomes shrouded in a dense, dark cloud, as he moves forward. He points his finger at the Right Troll and the cloud moves from him to the troll. The troll is buffeted by winds and rain as this cloud unleashes a downpour. The trolls vision is hampered.
