We're going to get started very shortly (probably Monday). I apologize for the inordinate delay. Blame it on real life (and that my house is undergoing renovation).
One thing I wanted to ask, though: How do you guys feel about setting the game in New Orleans? It's a fairly big city that I know pretty well (living about 90 minutes away) and offers lots of interest in and of itself.

Ace checking in!
New Orleans is good. Quite sufficiently cosmopolitan. Lots of work for a field guide and helper-to-biologists. Carribean handy. Access to Central America and northern South America. American Gulf Coast. Oil disasters. All kindsa good reasons to be in New Orleans. In fact, I'll bet Ace went to grad school at LSU, and just forgot to leave the state after floating down the river.
And beignets. Coffee and beignets. Can we make headquarters at Cafe du Monde? Please?

@WhtKnt - just a note, in writing up for an alias profile, I broadened out Ace's origins and possible intention/programming. I originally had explicitly considered him an environmental probe/recording device, dropped off at earth for investigation, but never subsequently retrieved. Other possibilities occur to me as well, and I leave them at your discretion (based on the intent of the campaign):
- Whether by intent or accident, Ace was sent "Back from the Future" as a data collection device, and possibly an environmental disaster mitigator/circuit breaker. (ever seen 12 Monkeys? Excellent movie..)
- Predecessor species - Atlanteans, smart Neanderthals, Great Old Ones, Lizard People (under the North Pole!), etc. - any technologically capable predecessor race could've designed Ace, and just left him kicking around. nothing saying Ace always looked human. Also nothing particularly indicating environmental management was his primary function, it could've been, "Tend the egg chamber, feed the triceratops, change the young 'uns diapers. Oh - and maintain the yard when you're not otherwise busy." Well, what with the decline in Saurian egg chambers, young saurians, and the sad lack of Triceratopses these days, "tend the yard" has risen in his priority list...
- Nicolai Tesla was concerned about Edison ruining the landscape with all those AC power lines, and knocked together a little something to tend to the environmental damage. Tesla was an extremely talented, if somewhat erratic, superscientist - but Edison had better press. Maybe Ace isn't as ancient and alien as might be imagined... But Ace sure doesn't know one way or another.
- Ace is much more 'golem' than 'cyborg'. As the Romans encroached on the sacred groves of Albion, the druids conjured up a great spirit of the world, and bound it into a statue of lightning-shorn oak as a protector of the land. They imbued their guardian with powers of change to adapt to changing conditions, and an urgency to defend against depradations of the fields and forests. It never occurred to them that the role of the picts and druids would not be essential to the spirit they conjured. Or that the spirit would adapt itself even to a technological 21st century. But for some reason, Ace still doesn't get on well with Italians.
Oh - oh my. it just occurred to me why Ace would actually latch into the fist group of superheroes around... Supers are a major ecological and biological inflection point. Any opportunity to observe/participate in such a pivotal change in the ecosystems would compel Ace to observe at the closest available range. Particularly if it represented an upcoming extinction event for the dominant species.

I'm pretty low overhead. On a sublet. The heating and AC bills are pretty small - I keep forgetting to turn them on. But for some reason my electric bill is FANTASTICALLY high.
I also keep the lawnmowers and trimmers working well, so the HOA puts up with me. :)
But I get the impression the dapper Dr. Warren Mulheer pays full freight on the top end unit, and has an interior decorator to boot :)

I'm still here, just swamped with Xmas stuff. Will post again on the 27th.
Reve Aristov |
So can we get some direction GM? Are we all meant to be rushing off to spain or getting together somehow or what? I know a couple of the characters coordinated to live in the same building, but... I'm not really sure what we're meant to be doing, Reve's day to day life is pretty bland, that's kind of the point, getting powers is meant to jolt him out of his funk.
WhtKnt |
No need to go to Spain if you can't/don't want to. Things will be happening at home soon enough. I'm just setting the scene.
Speaking of which...

I am making a preemptive apology to everyone with whom I am involved in games. My posting for the next month or so will be sporadic. For games I am playing, I will try to check in once a day. For games I am running, there may be gaps of a few days between moves. I ask that folks not give up on me.
This is convention season for me. I am scheduled to attend four conventions in the next month, one as staff. This means a LOT of prep time (as I am running at least three games at each convention, all of which I need to actually write).
Anyway, this is just a heads-up to let you know what is happening. If you must drop me, I understand. I would prefer that if I get behind, you just have my character do what seems logical. Thanks.

ALLCON -
First - rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated. I'm not dead - simply being eaten alive by new job and new commute. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the dead air, I really hadn't anticipated the impact of the changes on my free time.
The good news is... I believe once the initial shock and awe have subsided, I'll be able to achieve a better balance, and get back up to my prior posting rate. I currently plan to do initial catch up to all my groups this Sunday (2/9). Thereafter, I'll be back up to speed.
cheers!

Will pick up on Monday, as I am going to Pensacon (Pensacola, FL) for the weekend.
WhtKnt |
Two days to go before we put on CoastCon. This is the big one for me (as I am the Game Room Director). I will try to check in on games I am involved with tomorrow and Thursday, but may not be able to do so. I will not be on at all Friday through Sunday. I should be able to resume normal posting on Monday. Please bot me as necessary.
If you are in one of the games I am running, I ask that you remain patient and we will resume on Monday with a more regular schedule. And, of course, if you are in the Mississippi area, feel free to stop by CoastCon in Biloxi this weekend. We are a sci-fi/fantasy convention in our 37th year and our Gaming Guest of Honor is none other than Mike Brock (our Media Guest of Honor is John de Lancie)!

It was an awesome con! This was my wife's first year as Con Director, and for the most part, everything went smoothly. Everyone I've spoken to seemed to enjoy it.
Mike Brock (yes, THAT Mike Brock) was our Gaming Guest of Honor and spent every free moment at the Pathfinder tables, playing with the gamers. He was nothing short of fantastic! Terrific guy, as well. He had some great stories about GenCon and PaizoCon.
My wife, Gods bless her, put her money where her mouth is. Our charity is the Pink Hearts Fund, a group that provides wigs, breast prostheses, and other medical supplies to those recovering or suffering from various diseases, free of charge.
My lovely and kind wife stepped up and put her hair into our charity auction, taking bids to allow it to be cut. In the end, she raised $500 for the charity AND then donated the cut hair to make a child's wig! Since FB wants to be stupid, I have provided a few photos:
My wife in Starfleet uniform (we are members of Starfleet International, U.S.S. Neptune chapter, my wife is the one in the middle)

The only problem with Locks of Love is that they charge for their accessories (wigs and such). Pink Hearts does it for free.

I would like to apologize to everyone, but I just haven't had the time I wish I had to devote to this game and it isn't fair to string you all along, so I'm going to call it. I thank everyone for their interest, and if I find more time in my life, we may return to this, but for now, I just don't have the time.
