Maybe, just maybe I will. He says, restraining hiself from further innuendo as your mlkshake arrives

Rook smiles as he pulls out his phone I'll see if her stream is active. he says Is it, Twitch?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm charmed to meet you, Miss. Rook says I must say, Valerie, If I had known you kept such pleasant company, I would have sought yours much more often. He takes Moxie's hand in his own and (assuming moxie doesn't slug him)
Oh, I'm hardly rich... just generous with my friends. May I count you among that number, Miss?
Amir
A few blocks into your "storm off", a young woman flags you down. She holds a clipboard and is dressed more formally than the district would indicate. Mr. Ahmed, Right? she says, f you turn to give her attention.
Manifest
1, unleash uses freak, that should be a 12, but 2. that sounds a lot like an "Assess".
Unleash covers extending your senses, and I figured A: that summoned scouts would be a solid approximation of how a summoner might do that, and B: it fits trying to get the specific location of someone better than Assess. The question list for Assess has far different goals in mind than what I was after anyway.
Why ask "What here can I use to find X?" when I can just find them? I don't have pre-reqs to meet (I believe) and I wasn't after a bonus.
Also, I have Hopeless among my pile of conditions. That gives me a -2 to Unleashing, and 3 - 2 = 1. I just used the final modifier instead of putting everything in the roll.
I'd need a +4 anyway to get 12 with that roll, so I don't know where you pulled that from.
The pixies scatter into the house. less than a minute later, you hear a shrill voice say He's in the basement!
Elsine, before I let Moxie touch him, do I know if Rook needs his specialized equipment to do his psychometry, or if he can do it by touch?
Human-ish Level i^64 game master l Team (H): 3, Team(P):2
By touch. He's better at inanimate objects than people, but he would probably read the past several hours off of her.
He's pretty low profile, he mostly just knicks people's wallets and gets their PIN with his power, or uses it to get dates.
...well. There are a few things you can learn from this.
Someone actually is here. Whoever's in there is Male. He's not exactly slow from the rate he's getting about. And finally, pixies are probably shouldn't be your first resort when you don't want your target to know you're there.
Dammit...deep breaths. Focus.
Manifest takes shaky breaths. He needs to stay focused. With a pulse of red and a surge of pain, a harpy appears in front of him, vibrantly coloured and blatantly impatient. (Constructs - 2 Burn.)"Take the air over the building, and grab the guy in there if he tries to bail out. And Don't. Hurt Them." The harpy scowls at Manifest, but after a moment, it takes off and starts circling the building. The mage nods to it as it comes around on its first loop. "Thank you."
Taking his attention from the air above, he takes one more uneven breath. "Right. Time to do this..." Manifest enters the building.
It had been fun for a while; the playful banter and double entendre stringing Rook along. But it suddenly soured when he passed the wad of bills to her and asked her to get his order for him. Moxie's look of sympathy had caught her unaware, and now she sat frozen, staring at the cash in Rook's hand.
What am I doing here? First I antagonize a bunch of heroes, then I get all flirtatious for a two-bit villain -- who's really just a petty crook pulling credit card scams. I'm not going to be his arm-candy fling. I'm waaay better than him.
Her smile turns sour. "Get your own damn sandwich. I'm not your flipping waitress. And remember? I don't eat. I may be on the side of the angels now, but I'm still Siphon."
She stands smoothly and plants a hand on one hip, turning to face her teammate as if Rook had suddenly ceased to exist. "Moxie, you can stay if you like, but I didn't see any action on Twitch's feed. So I don't know what she and the boys are up to, but it must not be much. I need to go check on something, then I'll probably head back to Manifest's place to crash."
Moxie's composure cracks- a fleeting look of uncertainty, the air around her shimmers like a popping soap bubble, then a smile. "No, sure. I'm cool. Totally. See you tomorrow?" She sucks down milkshake until Siphon leaves.
When she's alone, again, Moxie looks back up at Rook. "So how does this work? You see the thing in the past, or it, like, whispers to you? What kind of information can you get out of something?"
Even as the figure lunges for him, Manifest finds himself noting their cybernetic state and wondering whether they even wanted to be like this.
...why? Why do people do this?
With a pulse of yellow, a sword forms in Manifest's hand - a beautiful ceremonial blade, stained and darkened by blood it should have never seen. A weapon he had become fond of since he learned its roots...and how it was perverted from them. It wasn't deserved, he felt. (1 Burn Construct, and one that really is interesting, even if I'm not giving the name, yet.)
Blade in hand and wracked with pain, he centres himself once more.
Burn: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 1) + 5 = 12
The glow from his sleeves steadies. His breathing doesn't.
There wasn't time for a wall...not the space, either. The cyborg would probably just go for a weaker wall instead.
He needed to get outside, but it was coming fast enough for him to wonder whether he could warp out in time if he tried. Seeking to slow them down, Manifest calls shades - and unlike with the teen idiots, here they were let loose to bind and drag down his assailant. As they rise, he moves back, his blade readied.
UNLEASH!: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1) + 1 = 3
...Snake Eyes, now?
This can only end terribly.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow," she tells Moxie, then saunters out of the restaurant. Once outside, she takes a brief glance through the window at Moxie and Rook sitting at the table still in a conversation. She wasn t worried; Moxie had plenty of power to defend herself if he made a move.
As she turns to walk down the street, she unfolds a napkin in her hand and studies the symbol scribbled on it. Prodigiocian.
===================
Siphon was glad the high-rise she sought wasn't far off, since Mad Moxie's powers were running low. The shield-board manages to get her there before running out entirely. She steps off the invisible disk and looks up -- and up and up -- at the luxurious Lovelace Center Apartments.
She strides in confidently, ignoring the fact that she's wearing an oversized T-shirt and yoga pants in a place where Versace is considered low-brow. A pair of extraordinarily well-dressed and thickly-built security guards step up to interpose themselves between her and the block of elevators.
Siphon smiles broadly at them. "Hey, Hogan! Rufus! It's been a while. I just need to go see Lovelace for a moment."
The two exchange a look, then glare at her. "She's busy. Now leave."
"It won't take but a moment of her time. I can find her myself -- penthouse suite, right? You can go back to eating barbells or whatever it is you do to get so big."
The two are not amused and shake their heads in unison. Then they each pull out a pair of black gloves and put them on.
"I guess you've heard of me, huh?" Siphon asks as the pair move toward her to forcibly remove her from the premises.
=================
Siphon punches in the correct key sequence and uses the last of Mad Moxie's telekinesis to turn the two keys simultaneously to get the elevator to take her to the proper floor. She waves at the two nearly unconscious guards as the doors slide shut. Guess they didn't hear that I don't need to touch their skin, she thinks as she whistles softly to herself during the elevator ride.
Siphon finds Lovelace in a bathroom that is the size of most apartments. The underground financial mogul and information broker is lying in a Jacuzzi bath with cucumber slices over her eyes and her hair wrapped in a towel when Siphon shoos away a servant.
Lovelace lifts one of the slices and looks Siphon up and down. "You assault my guards, invade my home, and you dare come before me? In yoga pants?"
"Give me a break. It's been a rough couple of days," she replies. "And your guards grabbed me. So I gave them the upcoming week off."
A look of supreme annoyance crosses Lovelace's features but fades quickly. The financier replaces the cucumber slice and settles back down in her bath. "Good help is hard to find, as they say. You're inconveniencing me, Siphon. You're obviously here because you want something. But I'm struggling to see why I should give you anything? Unless you want to try to convince me you haven't joined the 'good guys'?"
Siphon shakes her head. "I won't. But I'm still willing to come to an arrangement for information. I know you like to give tidbits to heroes -- makes you useful to them so they leave your operations alone."
Lovelace bites out a sharp laugh. "You're hardly a hero, dear. You're a confused child."
She swallows an angry retort and lets her comment slide. "Regardless. I heard that my parents are looking into Prodigiocian. I want to know why. Give me what you know, and... I'll owe you one."
Well that was entirely predictable. Well, I'm a Nova. Time to lose control. What's the theme to today's festivities, and would you like me to enact it?
Well, he was outside. That was a plus.
But he was also interrupted during a summon. That was decidedly not a plus, for so many reasons.
Did we mention the overprotective and incredibly powerful demon that had a bad habit of acting out, or the metal mask he wore that was currently the source of a whole lot of crippling pain? How about the fact that these past hours were very trying, and this was decidedly not helping?
Needless to say, there was already a lot that could go wrong where Manifest was involved. And now, circumstances dictated that the world see what a few of those things are once more.
How much attention would it draw this time once they did?
"Tempus therapy." What the hell is that? Siphon muses as she cuts through a seedy neighborhood to reach Manifest's home. It may have been late at night and she only a slip of a girl, but she was flush with the life force of two big bruisers. For a little while, her strength would be almost superhuman, and definitely far greater than what someone of her size and body type could display.
She had left Lovelace's penthouse with not a great deal of information, but she had said she would let her know what "Tempus therapy" is once she found out. And Lovelace was very good at finding things out. But in the meanwhile, Siphon had to wonder if her parents were planning on getting powers themselves, and if so, what for? Revenge against her? She supposed it was possible. Or were they just obsessed with getting back their golden goose?
Her mind spins round and round, wondering about her parents and her other interactions with various so-called heroes and villains that night. She still felt salty over how Ingress had treated her, though she hadn't exactly acted like one of the good guys either. She wonders how he would react to her draining Hogan and Rufus. Probably with another lecture.
In for a penny, in for a pound, she thinks when she spots a bicycle chained to a post. She was getting sick of walking, and had started to fume again over how everyone was still seeing her as neither a villain or a hero, but something in between. She gives the chain a tug and it snaps easily. I'm stronger than I thought. Maybe the boys were juicing. That'll help during our "exercise" tomorrow.
She hops on the borrowed bike and pedals quickly through the late night/early morning streets of Panurgic, finally reaching Manifest's neighborhood. She ditches the bike outside the area and walks the last half-mile to Siegfried's home. She slips inside, wondering if Manifest had finished his obsessive patrolling and was home yet.
Blowing off steam: Committing a misdemeanor to clear a condition (angry).
...I'd assumed Sis and Siphon had already met.
Oh dear.
I wonder how much I'm about to hear 'Siggie' later.
A lovely selection of creatures now dot the area, each of them amalgamations of creatures both familiar and completely unknown, all of them unholy abominations.
These things are Chimarae, which were (in his experience) insane and utterly controllable creatures with flames spewing constantly from their mouths, ready to be directed at a poor victim at a moment's notice.
As soon as he stops spasming, Manifest picks himself up, sees the creatures he's brought into this world, and promptly wishes he hadn't. Ever since his first encounter with them, he'd always loathed the things with a passion.
He looks up to circling Harpy. "FORGET HIM! DEAL WITH THE CHIMERAE!" At his call, the Harpy stops circling, and gleefully goes to its new task. With another gesture, a wall springs up to pen in the Chimerae. (Moat. 1 Burn.) After that, his attention turns back to the cyborg. "I don't know how you ended up like that, but that doesn't change that you hospitalised someone, or that you're now attacking me." With a few gestures, a grand circle appears on the ground beneath the cyborg. "You need to stop. Uramidt? Give me an eruption."
The circle starts to glow.
Not even a moment later, the ground beneath the cyborg erupts into a focused, towering pillar of flame, and Manifest takes the chance to grab his weapon and get some space as the force of the attack washes over his assailant, ready for what happens next. His eyes flick about, checking how many buildings there are nearby to warp atop.
Um, Elsine? You asked me about this before. And I answered. Probably with more than necessary. It's Rozalin.
Also...why is the building on fire? The point of the Moat usage was to create an enclosed area where the Chimerae didn't have a chance to set things on fire.
Did I do that, orrr?
in my (admittedly flimsy) defense, that was like a month ago. Also, yeah, but they were out long enough to set the house more on fire (he had already started the process with indiscriminate use of his electronic powers).the pillar of flames only scorched the lawn and some terminally curious corvids.
When Rozalin asks if her brother is staying safe, Siphon throws up her hands. "I don't know. He left ahead of us, so I don't even know if he knew the rest if us were going to meet at Wanda's. But then no one showed up but me and Moxie."
A stray thought laced with paranoia wanders across her brain. Are the heroes trying to ditch me and Moxie? Me because I'm a villain to them, and Moxie because they think she's going to snap like her old self? She rubs her shoulders as she gets a brief chill, suddenly feeling a pang of regret for leaving her at the restaurant.
She turns back to Rozalin, smiling weakly. "Shopping sounds great, but I'll probably have to take a rain check. I don't have any money right now. I may be, you know, Siphon, but I'm not going to be a mooch."
Will-- will I have to get a job? she thinks, the concept stunning her. She sits down while staring off into space, the implications of getting money legally truly unsettling her.
"My email is 'amir@ahmed.com'. I'm a silokinetic," starts Amir, using that fancy word he heard on the news earlier today. "As for team... I, uh, guess I'm not technically in a team."
"It would be way easy to say Wanda. Not a lot of, like, really rad female role models from back in the day." Moxie looks at the decor on the wall beside them, trying to figure out what part is a handle. "But I'm more of an Unsolved Mysteries girl. Justice looks easy when you, like, catch people in the act, but piecing things together after the fact?" Moxie pauses to take a sip of milkshake. "That's why I'm so totally bummed Salvo's Sliders got smashed. Henry showed me how to be a hero to the hopeless, and did it all without powers. He used to be a totally bichin' PI. Solved tons of cases. To the Paragons, our work fell somewhere between small potatoes and lost causes." Moxie rubs her neck and looks away.
"Uhm, so I've got two now, huh. Anyone inspire you? -Aaaaand... You taking care of your folks with all that money, or is it just for seducing girls with sick hair? Not, like, your parents... Your peeps, your crew, those kind of folks."
Oh my god. just went off on his own, didn't take Moxy or Amir or Twitch with him. Doesn't he realize how little defense he has? Roz says, more to herself than you.
she roots around in her closet for a while,a nd eventually gets out a few sets of clothing I know they aren't your usual style, but they should fit.
So, why'd ya do it? She suddenly asks as soon as your hands close around the bundle
Moxy
Hmm... not many insirations for my type. Maybe Circumspect. I mean he wasn't really a good guy, but he went out of his way to use his powers to make sure his crimes were bloodless. I just think maybe we'd be better off if more of us had a less violence-prone attitude like him
As for peeps? I don't really have a group I run with. more per-diem, see. And I don't have, like, a little sister or someone who needs me. I guess I'm just trying to get by in a city where that alone is an achievement.
Amir
Any less immediate affiliations? political parties, societal and authoritative stance? This is all for statistics purposes, we monitor trends in supers You see her check a box on her clipboard that reads Hero(LE endorsed)
Yu
Siphon tries to be upbeat about the selection of clothing Roz hands her. I'm going to be looking like I stepped out of the early 2000s. I think Manifest's sister had the entire Hanna Montana fashion line, she observes mentally. How many halter tops and low-rise jeans did she own?
Her head snaps up from the questionable fashion in her arms at the unexpected question. She stares at Rozalin, her dark eyes wide. "Do it? You mean switch sides?" She shifts uncomfortably and looks away. "I saw where my life was headed. I didn't want it to go that way."
Amir feels a twinge of worry, as the questions turn more personal and political, but his fears are somewhat assuaged by Ms. Boucher's reassurance that these most recent questions are for statistical purposes only. He spots her mark 'LE Endorsed' on her clipboard, and he wonders what that could mean. Lawful Evil, maybe? Amir decides to ask her directly.
"Um, no, to be honest, I don't really think about stuff like that." He tilts his head. "What does L.E. endorsed mean?"
Amir
Ah, undecided, Quite a number of capes are apolitical, for one reason or the other. SHe says Le Endored means Law Enorcement endorsed. in short you identify as a hero, and the police agree. some, like Mourning dove, identify as heroes but are not LE Endorsed
She sighs exasperatedly. "And I don't know where my new so-called friends are now. I left a message on Kilt's phone. Moxie's probably still at the diner. But I have no idea where Siggy, Twitch and Sandman are." She pushes a lock of hair behind her ear and looks away. "Maybe they've decided I shouldn't be part of their team."
"Okay, so, check this- because it's totally the most amazing story you'll ever hear. -First time I ever helped Henry with, like, a case that wasn't mine... 'caus, like, mine never got solved, and I just, like, kept hanging around, you know? Right, so, guy shows up, says his wife was murdered, except she's actually gone. Just her and her stuff, all gone out of their apartment. So everyone else, right? They brushed it off as her leaving him. Salvo, though, he doesn't spend ten seconds in the room before he points at the bedpost. He's like, 'you carve that?' -and the guy's like, 'What does that matter even?' but it turns out there's this heart thing carved into the bed, and it's just got the one initial in it. Like, how does that even work? The closer we looked, the more it looked like there was, like this gnarly person-shaped hole in the community, and the only two things left out of place were this guy, and the half-carved heart. Come to find out, the guy had one of her kidneys! Yeah, not a righteous guy, just a righteous story. End of the line, right? Wrong. Salvo gets this article from the library on some cutting edge science called DNA fingerprinting. We take the stuff to Mark, this rich kid I knew, and they set up a science lab. When they did the fingerprinting, it lead us right to the culprit." The story ends abruptly, Moxie blinks, and she sips on the empty milkshake.
"Didn't expect to see a fan here."
For someone who dealt with her fanbase through a screen primarily, the one-on-one meetings left her more at a loss for words than she'd like to admit. Hopefully, the kid's eagerness would make up for that.
The Electro emerges from the inferno, badly burned, with bone showing on it's worse-hit left side.. it shrieks with twisted vocal cords, and explodes into bolts of lightening... directed at the other houses on the block. No one gets hit this time, but he charges up again, and moves away from the house he came from, now an inferno.
Manifest wasn't sure what the worst thing about all this was right now. That the cyborg was a little less durable than anticipated, that even injured as he was he was still going strong, or that the house he'd tried to keep un-immolated was currently on fire.
...none of the above, probably. If anything was going to be bad, it was probably the imminent media attention he'd get. Towering pillars of flame did not go easily ignored.
Manifest grits his teeth behind the mask. They're still alright. This is still manageable. This isn't hopelessly out of control.
Yet.
Manifest's eyes flick between the burning building and the injured cyborg. He couldn't afford to leave either alone, but he was going to have to deal with one of those things first. Question was...no, it wasn't really a question. If he gets away, he can be caught later. I don't know if I can un-burn down a building.
He still needed some distance. Too easy for the electro to hit him, right now. He quickly glances around and...there. That building would do. "Ariel!" The wings take him, and soon Manifest is on a nearby rooftop. (Move - 1 burn.)
Alright, now the building. He works away for another conjuring. A phoenix? Phoenix should work. They've always been able to absorb any local fires before. That part of their rebirth cycle's always been convenient since he found out about it.
Well, that's the last miss I need to advance, but someone's going to suffer for it.
About 30 minutes after your arrival "home", you hear Rozalin fairly panicked on the phone. What happened to my brother! I'll be right down, She says
You can't leave me hanging... who was it? What do you mean person-shaped hole? was this one of those alternate-reality things? Neil/Rook says, clearly enthralled
Excellent, now if you have time, would you just fill out this page she says, handing you a sheet and clipboard, filled with basic questions (age powers manifested, age you first went out in costume, any medical complications.) Don't put your name on this one, it's just for the scientists.
This is just about when the pillar of flame, and the columns of smoke start appearing back the way you came. I would not want to be in media today... betcha anything a neo-abled was involved in that one
...HALF A NEIGHBOURHOOD.
Well, that's possibly the most Nova thing I've done so far.
...oh god, oh god, oh god...
There were a few things he could say for certain. He'd caused untold destruction, for one, and was probably going to have a whole new set of nightmares to deal with when he next slept. Another was that if he was facing someone with any sort of ranged attack, it was best to assume anywhere they could see wasn't safe until proven otherwise.
The last one was that whatever came next, he was not going to like it.
What even happened anyway? The wall he put up would surely have vanished, and probably the harpy too. The chimarae, though...he was willing to bet those had stuck around. They'd probably caused even more problems until they'd been dealt with.
And...what about his costume? What had happened to that? Had it vanished yet? Had it not? Where was it if it hadn't disappeared yet?
...that was something for later. Siegfried looks himself over, and finds himself thankful that he had certain resistances to rely on here. Some of the burning is fairly bad, but nothing life threatening. That, however, wasn't the most problematic of this whole thing for him.
Exposed by the hospital gown is a variety of runes, symbols, and sigils that cover his back and his arms, precisely shaped and coloured, several of which could prompt a slight headache or other such things if looked at too long. And even where the burns he'd received should have at least marred them, they were utterly immaculate, as if exempt from the harm inflicted to the rest of the skin. Not that they were, though. Even if they didn't look it, they were surely as badly burned as everything else there.
He needed to cover these up. And he'd have gotten changed into his clothes to do so by now if it wasn't for the three people here who could have seen him do so. He'd rather not dress with an audience.
And so, he looks blankly at the capes, unsure of what to say - let alone if he should say something. Who were they? What were they thinking? What did they know?
Siphon had been curled up on a loveseat in the living room and just about to doze off when Rozalin's excited voice snaps her awake. I don't have a coat; I don't have much of anything, she thinks about mentioning, but she recognizes that Roz was too focused on getting to the hospital to care about that correction.
She pulls on her high-top boots and yanks off a random coat from the rack in the foyer. Throwing it on as she follows Rozalin to her car, she realizes that it's probably one of Siegfried's, given its masculine cut, which is to say it hangs off of her waifish frame in an unflattering way.
Siphon takes the shotgun seat of Rozalin's little economy car and grabs a hold of the door handles as Siegfried's sister hugs the curves and pushes the engine to the limit. Her newly-acquired strength keeps her from getting flung about the cabin during the squealing turns and rapid accelerations that the little compact was not built for. Siphon has another private moment of grief for her cute little sports car before forcing it away.
When the car finally screeches to a halt crookedly in a parking garage next to the hospital, Siphon pulls herself out and follows the sprinting Rozalin on wobbly legs.
She catches up to Roz at the help desk, where she is urgently demanding to know which room her brother is in. Siphon simply smiles at the attendant and follows Rozalin.
