Erine watches Zaniah, not making an effort to hide her suspicion (or perhaps not realizing how obvious it is). She has been quiet for some time now.
I have no excuse. I lost my dot and didn't remember to look around. I'll step down if KK thinks it best, but until the time of Erine's departure comes I'll hang about. I can at least roleplay. :)
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy watches goat nudge the cat, whilst thinking That cat don't know how lucky it is or how close its dealing with nasty nips. He smiles as the two arcane spell casters eye each other up. He has faint recollections of once being quite attracted to Erine, but it is all very hazy. He shrugs his shoulders and gets ready to follow, before looking behind and up, just to check.

"I hope they get along with Bubbles."
Zaniah, as to why we are here it seems straightforward. We took care of a kidnapping problem under the city of Cauldron. Drolls, Underdark slaving rings, Hobgoblins, you know nothing much out of the ordinary. This brought us to the attention of the Mayor…of Cauldron not the glorious city of Jzadirnue below and he asked if we would do a favour for the local Baron pushing his cap up further on his head and scratching at what little hair he has left. His eyes finally light up. “Baron Althon! He wanted us to find a legendary cache of weapons forged by Dureddin. I do not know much about the smith but I have a sketch of his mark somewhere. Looks like orcs have moved in to the citadel and we are here to gather what weapons that they have not already looted and taken away. Fair enough? After a smile and a nod he starts muttering under his breath…"Mayor just got us out of town after what those *^&#$% ^&C&&* Stormblades did to my shop and the only entrance to Jzadirune. Trumped up spoiled kids."
Zaniah Riverthorn |
"Oh, that was you..." Zaniah trails off, seemingly oblivious to Erine's suspicious look. "I thought I had heard of you. Traveling with heroes, hm..? This has gotten much more interesting. It seems a fair task. I shall give it my all."
She frowns when the Stormblades are mentioned. "And I see we have both had the displeasure of making their acquaintance."

"The Stormblades! Do not get me started on those pups. Rotten to the core, spoiled, filthy, wet behind the ears, little $&!#$. Do not remember mentioning them but if you say I did then I must have. What underhanded shenanigans led you to unfortunately meet up with them?
Zaniah Riverthorn |
Zaniah's cheeks tinge red at the question, and she looks away from the gnome. She manages to answer as stoically as ever. "Oh... Nothing in particular... They are just a lot of schoolyard bullies in the end."
Zaniah Riverthorn |
As soon as she notices the lizard-things eying them suspiciously, Zaniah looks at them. Glad for the change of subject, she gives the closest one a look that screams 'I will eat your children RUN NOW!'
Standard action, Evil Eye. Will Save DC 16 vs -2 AC for 8 rounds. Success makes it last only 1 round.
This is followed shortly thereafter by a dark, low chuckle that builds quickly into dignified yet somehow 'I will eat your children RUN NOW!' laugh.
Move action, Cackle. Increases the length of Evil Eye by 1 round if the enemy is within 30 feet. If not? Then she just did a heck of an evil laugh.
Erine Wintyle |
Erine and Minniwick have an action to take!
Sorry, wasn't sure if I should follow Initiative or summat.
Erine remembers the kobolds from before. "Wait, we might be able to de...defuse this."She says something in a low and hissed language to the newcomers.
She pauses, waiting to see if they understood.

in a whispered voice to the group Erine is trying to negotiate safe passage. Do not attack unless she gives word.

Edrukk will eye the creatures and draw his sword, but points it down to the floor as he rests both hands on it. Really, how non-threatening can you be with a readied greatsword?

Minniwick
The troglodyte is a feral, savage cave dweller. They are among the most populous denizens of the upper reaches of the endless caverns of the underworld, equally at home raiding the settlements of those who dwell above or below ground, yet for all their race's fecundity and sprawl, as a whole they represent only a minor threat. At times, great leaders can draw legions of troglodytes to their command to create vast and deadly armies, but left to their own devices, troglodyte tribes are content to keep each other under control with numerous feuds, cannibalistic raids, and bitter civil wars.
The troglodyte is one of the oldest of intelligent races, and ruins found in some remote caverns testify to the fact that their empire was once among the largest in the world. At the dawn of time, the troglodyte civilization was generations ahead of other humanoid races—while those races hid in caves and worshiped fire, the troglodytes raised vast cities of stone ziggurats and twisting canals, kept other races as slaves, and worshiped ancient and inhuman gods and demons. Yet as the other races evolved and grew increasingly civilized, they outstripped their onetime troglodyte oppressors. Today, the roles have changed—now it is the troglodyte that hides in caves and lives the life of a feral savage.
Religion is strong among troglodyte tribes, and their shamans and priests are universally the highest regarded members of a clan. A troglodyte chieftain is not always a cleric or druid, but those who do not have divine power are usually mere mouthpieces and puppet lords that answer to the beck and call of the local seer or shaman. Troglodytes generally worship one of the countless demon lords, particularly those of a reptilian or primeval shape and form or those whose Abyssal domains most closely resemble the tangled caverns troglodytes prefer. Troglodyte druids are usually neutral evil if they dwell with their own kind (and are universally feared and respected for the eerie command they have over beasts).

** spoiler omitted **Feel free to assume Erine is translating...I will drop the spoilers...... ;)
Zaniah Riverthorn |
Whispered in common. Troglodytes....feral, savage and evil. I am not sure if we are getting out of here without a fight.
"Would it not make the most sense to simply incapacitate them now and be on our way?" Zaniah whispered in reply.
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
Is she lying? I was only aware that we were here to deal with an orc and droll problem.
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
I was paying attention, but it's been a while. Erine was established as kind of avoiding most of the talks, so it's fairly possible she doesn't know. Did I get something wrong, then?
I don't think there's any reason to fight the troglodytes. I'm here "fer th' orcs 'n th' stolen dwarven goods." I think Erine could very well believe that she can negotiate safe passage. What the other characters will do is out of her control.
Zaniah Riverthorn |
I thought we WERE just here to get the stolen goods. They just got evil eyed for jumping in on an embarrassing conversation moment. That in hindsight they never could have understood.
...Well. I might owe them an apology if they don't try to kill us. Oh well, no harm done.o/`
Minniwick Zookwinkle |
Minniwick has no idea what Erine has said since she swapped to Draconic. He just knows what the critters are and what they are like. Orcs and masterwork weapons are all he signed on for. The less fights we get into the better. Go Erine!
Erine Wintyle |
I still need a bluff check for Erine to convice the troglodytes of her earlier statement......
Erine quote:
"We are here to drive out the orcs for you, and then it can be yours again. No more dragon blood need be spilled."
Wouldn't it be diplomacy, since she isn't lying?
Well, here's the roll. -1 no matter what: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
