Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy makes a hasty retreat out of the cavern as Minniewick identifies the cavern as a hive. "Well, I don't think we want to go that way. we can't block it off can we? I'll get 'em as they come out." He tries to hide round the corner of the entrance tunnel, so he can hit any that come out in range of his falchion.
"I've an idea that might work, but I need to know the dimensions of the cave. From what I saw it was quite large?"
The large cavern, would Canvy have seen it's size and does Canvy think a 30ft radius centred on Canvy reach all/99% of the Stirges.

Not sure how well the hive will burn. I can give it my best shot. Canvy, I think I know what you have in mind. If you want we can try and hit it at the same time
Canvy Mandrain |
Rather shocked, Canvy looks at Minniewick, "Umm, I'm not going in just as you throw a bomb, I'd rather not be blown apart by your fiery explosions, but you can throw it in if I have to run out. Do you have any potions that might aid my defense against these things?"
Canvy Mandrain |
"OK then," replies the half-orc soldier, "You throw your bomb in, whilst I give myself some protection, then I'll see what I can do by entering their domain........"
Hoping KK can give an indication if Canvy knows the size of the cavern?
KenderKin |
I am happy photobucket is working again! ;)
Actually the opening is on the opposite side of the river from you!
Yes you could bomb the area, but Canvy would have to fall 10 feet into the raging current, swim across and climb up the other side to enter the room......
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
I was confused by the description and assumptions we'd made. The map on photobucket is appreciated, but without context, it's just a picture. I've looked at it a couple of times, but I don't know what direction we came from, where we are standing, or which of the two rooms present is the hive. Can you add dots or arrows via overlays to the map (overlays so you don't have to mess with the original, but copies of the original would work, too, of course)?

+1 to all of the above.
I could bomb the hive, but it may just make them angry. A "skid-dadle" may be the best option.
Canvy Mandrain |
Yep, I thought Canvy was in the cavern...as you can tell from his actions .... I also know it's difficult to get the maps and stuff done, never easy for a pbp. KK's done a great job keeping this PBP going .. so I'm happy we get through this by moving on if we can to whereever it leads....
Zaniah Riverthorn |
Since we're not skedaddling, I'll be introducing Zaniah now.
A woman with a gray cat peeking out from under her walks towards the party slowly. It takes her a good few seconds to make it to the rest of the group. When she catches up, she seems relieved to have found you all.
"Good day, sirs. Which of you is Sanstree?" she asks quickly. There's a paper of some sort in her hands, and she's absentmindedly rolling it up as she speaks. "I have a summons for you from Allustan."
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy the ever alert guard draws his polearm as the woman approaches. "Hold woman don't you come no closer." he turns back to Sanstree, "Oi Sanstree, you know this woman? She says she's got someat for you. Careful, might be a trap, but I got 'er covered." He turns back to the woman, "Friend or Foe?" his scrutinizes her answer to be truthful, a friend. "Broccan, she seems friendly enough, escort Sanstree to her won't you. I'm not taking my eyes off 'er."
Sanstree |
"Aww crap seems I probably needs to get back an srub out the cauldron or some such. Allustan said he was gonna get us some maps o this place through magic o somethin."
The newcomer has no problem producing two maps....
and
as well as an official summons for Sanstree to depart post haste.
Sanstree also hands over his master-work repreating heavy crossbow to the witch.....
"You know how to use this thing?"
Zaniah Riverthorn |
"Not very well." she replies quickly, accepting the gift. "But I am sure I can determine how it is used without too much trouble." She wryly thinks that she couldn't be that much worse of a shot than she was normally.
She then looks at the rest of the party and offers a polite bow. "My apologies, I should introduce myself. Zaniah Riverthorn, of the house Riverthorn."
Edrukk Thorvirgun |

The dwarf acknowledges her with a bow of the head. "Edrukk, son o' Thorvir, master smith. 'r ye plannin' t' travel wit' 's, 'en?"
As Sanstree begins to leave, Edrukk calls out, "Dinnae be gettin' 'n trouble 't we cannae be gettin' ye outta, ye 'ear?"
If I may be so bold, one of my other pbp dm's is putting the campaign map links in the campaign info tab. Makes them easier to re-locate later.
Zaniah Riverthorn |
Broccan turns red, and quickly bows. "Beg'n yer pard'n milady. Forgive m' ill mann'rs."
"No, I should have said so before. It was a reasonable response."
She thought how she could best insinuate herself into the party before Edrukk solved the problem for her.
"It is a pleasure, Edrukk, son of Thorvir. I would be delighted to accompany you. I seem to have just deprived you of your friend, after all." She nods to her cat. "If you will have Orion and I, of course."
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy introduces himself, "Me name's Canvy, bit of a retired soldier coming ouot for some fun. Glad to meet you, any friend of Sanstree is more than a friend to us." although the last part isn't said with that much sincerity.
Canvy says to Edrukk as a volume the witch can hear, "She won't be wanting any o' the treasure we find will she? I damn well hope not!"

His voice just a bit louder than Canvy's, the dwarf turns to him, puts his hands on his hips and states, "Yer a gold-brained fool, ye know 'at? If'n she be down 'ere, riskin' 'er life aside 's, she be 's deservin' o' 'er share just 's much 's ye 'r. He stands there glaring at the half-orc.

with a big grin he takes off a glove and extends a hand.[/i] "My name is Zookwinkle, Minniwick Zookwinkle."
She takes it and shakes it warmly, nodding to him. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Minniwick. 'Zaniah' will do nicely." They seem nice enough...
"She won't be wanting any o' the treasure we find will she? I damn well hope not!"
Most of them, anyways. She was about to defend herself, before Edrukk did it for her. Still, it was never good to let people fight needlessly.
"I am happy to meet all of you." She steps between Edrukk and Canvy, aiming to get their minds off of harming each other and back to the task at hand... whatever it is. "Now then, Allustan was kind enough to give me these maps... but I do not know what task we are to accomplish. Would you please fill me in as we walk?" She gives her winningest smile, which still somehow manages to make her look like she just rolled out of bed.
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy glares back at the dwarf and speaks gruffly back, but despite his best efforts anyone can see that he speaks the words of a guilty man, "What do you mean! I haven't taken anything that's not mine. I always share my finds with you." His big half-orc hand starts to unbuckle his armor as he drops his weapons to the floor. As if bolstering himself up, to renew the confidence that he lost with Edrukk's accusation, "Well, it's me honor you slight, you's said yous were a soldier, let's settle it the proper way." he seems spoiling for a bit of a fight.
Canvy is unarmed and his armor is half off.
Broccan Dunchad |
"Cap'n, there's plenty'o things 'round 'ere what wants t'kill us. I dinna think it's a best time fer fisticuffs. Save it fer the tavern, an I'll buy the drinks after ye pound each other's 'eads in."
Canvy Mandrain |
I really don't want to post this til after Edrukk's had a chance to post...but in the interest of moving the pbp on...read this after Edrukk posts next.
At Broccan's offer, Canvy stops in his tracks, "A beer and a fair fight, sounds good to me....what do ya say Edrukk, yo good for it?" Canvy smiles at the dwarf and human. With the breast pieces of his armor, half-way sliding to the floor, his arms engaged in undoing the clasps, he looks expectantly at Edruuk.

As the males clamour to exert their dominance and prove themselves the most desirable for the benefit of the lady.
The stream and the tunnel you are currently in turns back to the main chamber....
The descending fissure opens up abruptly into a very high cavern, with a ceiling easily 40 feet or more over-head. The stairway continues to wind down, descending a ledge along the north wall of the chamber. A fast-moving stream about 5 feet wide runs across the floor of the chamber and disappears under a low stone overhang to the south, while larger passageways exit to the southeast and the northeast.

Edrukk snorts and shakes his head. "Broccan 'as th' right o' 't. We might be fer settlin' 't so, but le's be doin' 't where a troop o' orcs 's not goin' t' come 'round th' corner 'n find 's wit' no armor. Put yer clothes back 'n, yer 'n front o' th' lady."
Didn't ready Canvy's reply post yet. Off to see how he replied when I hadn't yet!
And in reply to his pre-reply, "Aye, lad, 'at's a date. Gorum 'd be fer 'avin' 't n' other way o' 'is clergy, ye know."

"Umphf, now we got that sorted, help me back into me gear." as Canvy starts to buckle up his armor once more. Canvy's green eyes seem to loose the glow that shone brightly in his orbs. Canvy carries on as if nothing has happened, even clasping the dwarf around the shoulders in a sort of a friendly hug. "Thanks, better with this armor on eh? ha ha! Lets see what we've got in front of us." Before he turns to Zaniah, "Well, lets hope you're ready for all this then, that Sanstree was a good un, we'll see how you shape up. I'm sure Minniewick can help you too."
He follows the rest, "I'll protect the rear and our new friend. Lets just follow the way down, then keep to the river. You OK to do that Broccan?"
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
"Looks tight 'n wet from 'ere. Let's be fer checkin' th' halls over 'ere 'fore we try swimmin'."
D'ye prefer northeast or southeast?
Zaniah Riverthorn |
Northeast, as the map shows it leads into the SE branch eventually anyways.
Zaniah nods in reply to Canvy, glad to see the fighting was over for the moment. "It would be for the best. Water often comes with unanticipated dangers."
Broccan Dunchad |
Broccan moves forward towards the passage. He speaks quietly, and lowers his gaze as he moves past Zaniah.
"Allow me t'go firs' m'lady. Bett'r an orc stab me th'n your ladyship."
KenderKin |
Several passages branch away from this large, high celing cavern. To the north, a 10 foot wide, square mouthed tunnel shows that someone or something has been at work in these caves. A strong gate of rough-hewn timber blocks a small passage to the northeast. Three other passageways wind off towards the south. A heavy, animal smell lingers in the air.
Perception checks please
Zaniah Riverthorn |
Zaniah lets Broccan and Edrukk by, no problem, following them in. "Thank you... I have never been good at dealing with stab wounds." she whispers back, taking a slow look around the room.
