Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy holds his falchion ready, moving towards the noise of a predator in the bush, "Come on quick, be ready something is coming to attack us out of the bush, I can hear it." He looks down as he steps over the fallen bodies of the orcs. Momentarily he stops, "Hey Edrukk, looks like it was your boys that made the armor these orcs are wearing. Nice stuff." He starts again towards the bush, "We'll take it after we've dealt with whatevers coming."

Nodding to Edrukk. "Thank you Pointing to Canvy and grinning, "it seems to be very effictive aginst those with Orcish blood."
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
"That may be something to keep in mind, because judging by their equipment we have found our orcs." Change the volume of the ghost sound so that it recedes and then stops "Canvy I think you scared it away"
Canvy Mandrain |
As the noise dissipates at Minniewick's command and Canvy hears his words, he turns back to his friends, "I did, did I? I scared it away! You're all safe now, let get on and pick up this armor and stuff. Should be worth a pretty penny as its made by your dwarven friends, eh Edrukk." Canvy start to take the armor from the orcs bodies and any other items they might have that are interesting. "Come on then, lets get this stuff off these orcs then, lets make a few more gold pieces."
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
"Wuz anny'of'em still breath'n, an'kin anne'won speak orc?"
Edrukk snorts, "'s me cous'n says, 'y 'ould Ah want t' talk t' dead folk?"

"Looks like were gonna need tah find a spot tah hole up during tha night, seems we err fairly far from tha stonetooth if tha be it."
"Say is tha a whisp o smoke I see ever so often when I looks o tha way?"
points off to the right of the tooth itself.
Broccan Dunchad |
Broccan follows the direction that the orcs were moving, trying to discern if it is a well-used trail to the mountain.

"We bes'chooz'eh campsite care'fly. We dinnah wan' more o'em com'n onn'us look'n for this lot, 'specially at night when'ay can see bett'r'n som'eh us."
KenderKin |
Broccan selects a rocky overhang of rock with a small natural shelter from the elements, the mouth of which is filled in with a fence with sharpened wooden spike sticking out or it, made of rough hewn timber.
The remnants of a small fire are burned into a small depression in the stone. The area is generally dirty, but defensible.
Likely a campsite set to avaid the big lizards in the dark......
Anyone want to make any special preperations for the evening?
Sanstree casts a CLW on himself and studies his spellbook......

The first two watches go by without any trouble darkness begins to deepen in the area a light rain begins to fall...
Will our heroes chance a small fire in the stone hole.
It is a hole in the stone straight down 12 inches with a 8 inch diameter opening a smaller tunnel runs from the main shaft at an angle to allow ventilation, a pot easily sits over the main hole.
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy, takes the watch at the deepest dark of the night, relying on his darkvision to give him an advantage. He doesn't attempt to make a fire, or offer any opinion on whether to start one or not. "A little bit of hot stew has a price, and the price is you will be seen more easily be orcs and others of their kind. But they have to be looking in this direction?"
KenderKin |
The night passes without incident and the morning light offers the same view of the stone tooth in the distance, you tredge towards it for most of the day, eventually you come to a divide in the path where you can either approach the smoke which is still rising over the trees or directly towards the mountain itself.
Which way?
Canvy Mandrain |
As the others go off on the path towards the smoke, Canvy points towards the mountain..."But....the treasure...it's in the mountain...what...you sure..." Reluctantly he follows you on your way down the path, constantly casting backward glances to the mountain.
KenderKin |
You trace the smokeyness to a saddle between the stone tooth and another smaller hillside, dense thickets and boulders are strewn in the area and a deep enbankment has to be climbed.
Perception DC 15
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy looks at Edrukk, "Well little man, seems to me, this could be your moment of glory. What say you climb down there and have a quick look, see what's down there. If we tie a rope to ya, you cn get down there quite safely...well I hope! "
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
*snort* "D'Ah look like an acrobat t' ye? All Ah'm good fer 's t' plug th' 'ole like a cork wit' 'is body. Mebbe a skinny folk like yerself should go!"
Looking around, he adds, "If'n 'ere be som'un cookin', 'ey 'ave a way in 'at doesn't require a chimney climb. Let's be fer seein' if'n we c'n find 't."
Broccan Dunchad |
"Even'a cookfire's gonna be burn'n hot when y'get'the hearth. N'if we douse it, we'll be lett'n sum'n know we're com'n. But'if yer certain we shou' go'in this way, I'll strip t'my skivvies, stick a dagg'r tween m'teeth, and shimmy down'ere. I'm not gone'teh like it much, though."
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
" 's an errand fer a death wish. We canna 'elp ye if'n ye get int' trouble. 'n yer gonna be climb 'n 'at smoke - ye'd be surprised 'ow weak 't 'ill be makin' yer body wit' no good air."
Edrukk stands, arms crossed, looking at the lot of you like he cannot believe this conversation is even happening.
KenderKin |
Broccan goes down the chimney, the smoke is not thick more residual and the thing goes down about 80 feet.....
Broccan
You come out at a hole in a ceiling, the cave floor is about 20 feet below you and a fire pit burns below. Likely everyone could fit down the hole (Fully armed and armored) and be in this internal cavern. Due to the limits of the fire's light you can not tell much about the room. Sorry ; (
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
The illustration sure didn't look like residual smoke...
Edrukk scowls, "Bah!" But he will anchor the rope tied to Broccan, letting Canvy hold it waiting for signals from the former miner.
Muttering to himself aloud, "Don' matter 'ow long 'e was unner th' ground, 'e still canna see wit' no light. Shoulda been th' 'alf-orc."
Broccan Dunchad |
Assuming Broccan isn't immediately attacked by anything nasty from the dark of the cavern, he gives a tug on the rope to signal the others to climb down.
I'm not sure based on the description if Broccan went down the hole with his gear on or not, so I'll assume not, since that's what I said in my dialogue.
Broccan scans the darkness, holding his dagger at the ready.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
"Aye, 'ere was a single tug. Go 'n wit' ye, Canvy, Ah'll come down after th' wee folk." A look of concern crosses his face, "D'ye think Goat 'ill be lettin' me lower 'im down wit' the rope? May'ap ye should be fer stayin' up 'ere t' get 'im 'n th' sling 'n follow 'im down..."

The one exit from this room leads into another chamber with multiple exits.
Will you be carrying light or letting Edrukk go first?
Lights or no lights?
Marching order?
That does not matter as you enter the new area.....
The new chamber
This chamber is a natural cave with carefully snoothed walls and floor. Wet stone gleams, and you can discern at least four exits leading off into darkness. Red coals glow in the darkness of the far right-handed passageway, and a crude wooden cage bars the closer right-handed passageway. The room is littered with orcish sleeping furs, loot and rubbish.
The small cave to the side Area 6…..
A row of rough hewn sapling trunks forms a crude but servicable cage across the mouth of this small cave. A door locked with an iron padlock secures the room. Inside you see two filthy prisoners dressed in tattered rags, crowding close to the door. ”Thank Yondalla!” the first one cries out, ”We are rescued!” adds the second. The men are dirty and obviously malnourished!
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy follows the rest down the chimney, now that Edrukk has fastened the rope to the top. Once down, he casts around for an exit, knowing that Broccan appears to have secured the kitchen. Edited post Carefully Canvy moves into the next chamber, thinking to himself Golly, it's quite light here, I can se things quite well, must be the new blood in me, maybe that change from my past life isn't so bad after all. He stops and scans the room, crossing over to the exit to the north. As he moves there, he hisses "Quiet, whoever that is!"
As quietly as he can in his bulky armor, Canvy smiles and pulls out his falchion and 'hides' by the exit from the room. His eyes glow in the dim light, as a whisper reaches your ears, "I've the exit covered if any are so foolish as to come this way." Happy that, despite his squeaking bulk of armor almost glowing in the glistening light reflecting within the cavern, he has secluded himself away to surprise anyone entering.
Stealth 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (1) - 4 = -3 to not be seen by the exit....what a lovely roll.... :)
Looks like we crossed posts...KK... I've edited the original to be pertinent for areas 5/6, without removing the basic idea of what canvy would do.
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
Edrukk removes his breastplate while the others climb down. Once the rope is clear, he will tie the armor and his backpack to the rope and let it down first before tying the rope off and climbing down himself.
Once at the bottom, he continues grumbling about a fool's errand as he puts on his armor. He's fine with Canvy leading, he'll bring up the rear.
Sanstree |
Once Canvy gives the all clear on the rooms
Sanstree lights the larger chamber up, that is when the men in the rough prison cry out about being saved. They are immediately quiet.
Sanstree comments
"They are lucky they were not kept in utter darkness as they would both be blind by now."
