Starbrow
"They say some people in this area are haunted by such dreams every night, even calling them the dream haunted, it ties back to demons and such as I heard it....
"I might be able to rush past the hobgoblins and close the door sealing them into the narrow hall, then waiting till you get them beaten, then open the door for you"
His tongue hangs out the side of his mouth and he often tilts his head to the side....It seems strange talking to a "dog", except for Erine....

Erine nods. "A good tactic.'

"Aye, 'at we c'n. 'r th' gobs usually warriors, 'en? Ah think if'n 'ere be a caster, we'll want t' be tendin' t' 'im first, eh?"

Starbrow
"You will want to do something with that light in a second or two, I hear the elevator bringing them now."
"Can you hear it?"
A minute goes by....
"And there is the gear door at the end of the hall"
Perception DC 24
You hear the elevator come to rest and a gear door open!
Roll for initiative!

Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Edrukk will start casting Enlarge Person on himself and then Shield of Faith when Starbow says the far gear door is opening. He will position himself out of line of sight from the door but close enough that his 10' could strike a hobgoblin coming through.
"Ye two gnomes, Ah think ye should sit be 'n sight 'ere s' th' 'obs see ye first 'n think ye be th' kidnapped folk fer 'is trip."
KenderKin |
Minniwick covers the light spell throwing the room into darkness.
The gear door grinds open and Minniwick drops the cover from the light ensorcelled rod.
You see two hobgoblins side by side in the doorway with other hobgoblins behind the first line.
The hobgoblins were not expecting the light or opposition within this room....
Giving you a surprise round against the first two in the doorway.
Starbrow initiative

Minniwick need initiative!

OK Minniwick initiative 3

Erine has not posted since the call for initiative. I'm not sure if the holiday might be keeping her away or not.

Canvy his eyes taking on a purple hue as the thought and actions of battle near, quietly prays the prayer of power as his pole arm takes on a magical purple light and strikes the first Hobgoblin into the room.
Mwk Polearm attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Mwk Polearm damage 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 = 12
Channel energy 1d6 ⇒ 3 Will Save, DC=13 for half
Broccan Dunchad |
On my turn, of course
Broccan moves to the open and attacks the nearest hobgoblin still standing.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
KenderKin |
Starbrow attempts to get through the hobgoblins, running through the door as soon as it opens.
Starbrow is moving through threatened squares and enemy's space.
Acrobatics
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Somehow he makes it to the end of the hallway and closes the gear door sealing the Hobgoblins into the narrow passage.
Canvy and Broccan working together drops the first hobgoblin the second just stares blankly at the party!
Please continue with surprise round!
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
The enlarged dwarf takes a mighty swing at the still-surprised hobgoblin.
Greatsword attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4, 4) + 4 = 16
Yea! I like the looks of that!
Broccan Dunchad |
On my turn, and assuming I am close enough...
Broccan steps forward and strikes at another hobgoblin.
"Take tha'ye bag'o gristle!"
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Erine Wintyle |
Sorry, didn't notice Edrukk had acted.
"Don't kill them unless necessary!" Erine shouts. Ignoring Edrukk's earlier warning, she hurries to where she can make out the enemy. "Servisen!" the little gnome says. Her eyes glow as she stares angrily at the unwounded hobgoblin. A wisp of smoke flies from her mouth and at her target's legs, encircling them...and then appearing to dissipate. "GET DOWN, UNWORTHY MURDERER!" she shrieks.

Erine's turn precedes Broccan's posted second action, so there are at least two unwounded hobgoblins awaiting your magical attention if that changes your action.
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy waits for Broccan to move forward and attack, "Broccan you go forward, I'll follow behind, we'll take these bullies down yet." He then comes behind Broccan with his pole arm and brings it down sharply on the hobgoblin.
Delay action until Broccan moves into attack

Broccan steps into the last hobgoblin, blustering on about a bag o gristle, taking that hobgoblin cleanly.
Canvy finishes the prone hobgoblin before it can regain its feet.
The hobgoblins do not die quietly.....
The second half of the hallway Broccan is in and in front of the door suddenly drops into a pit full of dark ooze.....
Broccan
needs a reflex save DC 16 to avoid falling into the pit.
Just then Starbrow opens the gear door at the far side of the pit...
Urging Broccan "Jump for it!"
two secret panels open off to the side and skulks aim crossbows through the holes......
One shoots towards Canvy
attack
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Another shoots towards Broccan
attack
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Both miss! The panels slide back into place.....
Broccan Dunchad |
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Broccan manages to leap back as the floor drops out before him and an arrow whizzes by his head.
"Criminney! Sum'n's wantin' me dead t'day!"
KenderKin |
Starbrow
"I told you there was some sort of trap....Get over here before they reload those crossbows!"
The hobgoblin corpses slide into the pit of black ooze it sizzles and pops and slowly starts to eat through the hair and clothing of the hobgoblins, a foul smell like burnt hair comes up from the pit......
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
How wide is the pit? Will Edrukk's expanded reach allow him to boost the smaller party members across? Can he reach the secret panels where the skulks were hiding behind? I'm half tempted to stand there and wait for a skulk to open his panel so I can skewer him for the trouble, but I want to help the smallfolk across the pit, too...
Erine Wintyle |
Erine's eyes glow. "Nacoshus!" she calls. From her pouch she grabs some little red rose petals. She casts them into the air. They dissolve into vaporous counterparts, flying unerringly towards the enemies.
Sleep, centred between the two. Save DC is 16. If they're within 10 feet of each other, they are both affected.
KenderKin |
The pit is 5 feet across and goes right up to the edge of the open gear door. Erine begins casting sleep hoping to get the skulks with the spell......
Starbrow continues to look at the pit and then at you as if to say come on now it is not that far....
"It is a little pit, silly bipeds, jump over it!
"I am surely going to leave this place soon now that the magic that bound me here is gone. Is it possible that we leave Keygan out of this whole kidnapper thing, he was only concerned for me?"
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
Edrukk will move to the near edge of the pit. "Canvy, lad. Let me borro' yer pol'rm fer a moment while ye jump 'cross wit' Broccan. Min'wick, Ah c'n 'elp ye 'n th' lass cross th' pit. Let me know when ye be ready."
If Canvy does loan Edrukk his polearm, Edrukk will ready an action to attack the first skulk to open his secret panel. He'll have 10' reach plus the additional reach of the medium-sized polearm, so I think he would have 15' reach and might threaten an attack of opportunity, as well, if they try to fire.
Broccan Dunchad |
Jump, jump, jump over the piiiiiittt. Acrobatics (untrained w/armor check penalties for armor, shield, and encumberance. 1d20 + 1 - 4 - 2 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 1 - 4 - 2 - 3 = -2 vs. DC 5
...aaannnd the dice hate me, LOL.
KenderKin |
Starbrow
makes an attack roll to catch Broccan's cloak
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Broccan your feet bounce off of a bag of gristle floating in the acid just below your toes, and your back hits the wall, yet somehow you are not falling into the pit........
The secret panels open
Skulk #1 will save versus sleep
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Skulk #2 will save versus sleep
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
One falls asleep the other goes to aim his crossbow and finds a polearm in his face....
Canvy Mandrain |
Canvy would let Edrukk use the polearm.
Canvy mutters in the ancient tongue of his 'mother' asking for her guidance, his eyes continue in their purple hue. A purple glow surrounds him. "Go little one, tel your goat not to be frightened, I can carry her across if you want?" Depending on Erine's reply Canvy will either gather up the goat and then take a running jump, or take a running jump without the goat.
Acrobatics 1d20 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) - 4 + 1 = 11 Includes +1 from guidance spell
Edrukk Thorvirgun |
Under his breath, Edrukk mutters, "Lad, ye gotta learn better timin' 'n t' jump jus' 's 'ey pop out..."
He jabs the polearm in through the hole, hoping to skewer him a skulk.
MW Polearm 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 = 11
Blast it!
If he gets an attack of opportunity in addition to his readied action:
MW Polearm 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7
Just not to be, I guess.
He will step across the pit and extend a hand down to aid Broccan in climbing out of the pit. Or extend the handle of the polearm down, if it's possible for him to hold the business end safely.
Erine Wintyle |
Erine backs away. "Yeah, no thanks." The gnome instead turns to the nearest hobgoblin. "Live," she breathes. What seems like a pale string flies from her mouth and at the wounds of the slaver, stitching up the crucial points.
