Will DC 20: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Fort DC 20: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
"These webs are disgusting, and the spiders are coming. Get ready!" The warrior braces for impact.
GM Fez |
Dulomak is the only one to realize that the webs are not actually there, though that does not stop everyone else from seeing and feeling their effects. Luckily everyone is able to ignore the feeling of tiny spiders crawling up and down the webs and all over them. The two conscious shiver addicts whimper and begin throwing the very real, to them and most of you, spiders into the stove.
The junkie under Dulomak's hand shudders again and begins retching, bringing forth a swarm of spiders that swiftly cover Dulomak and Cyrene the only two stated to be next to the shiver addicts. They immediately go to town and begin slipping into armor and clothing, biting the whole way.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Plus a DC 11 Fortitude save vs poison
And a DC 11 Fortitude save to avoid gaining the nauseated condition for being in the middle of the swarm.
Dulomak doesn't need to disbelieve, but everyone else needs to make a new Will save. If you fail the DC 20 I need another DC 20 Fortitude save.
Order 2nd Round

Spider Swarm
Event
Cyrene Two-spell |
Fort vs Poison: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Fort vs Nausea: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Will vs Illusion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
So passed all swarm stuff and completely failed the illusion... right?
Dulomak |
The spider swarm is 'real'. The illusion is all of the webs and the spiders in those. The addict isn't casting anything or doing much more than twitching.
Ok
Marina, Servant of Wadjet |
will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
What the....something is making an illusion of all these webs, but those spiders are real! Quick, I'll grab the guy, someone else throw some alchemists fire or blast those spiders!
Marina doesn't have spring attack, but do you think she can still grab the guy and keep moving? If not, she'll just move towards him and try to pick him up and stop there.
GM Fez |
Yes, the swarm isn't affecting you as much as the webs are. The illusionary spiders on the illusionary webs are distracting you, however.
Yep, he's not resisting in any way, its just a matter of picking up weight and continuing to move.
Order 2nd Round
Cyrene, Marina, Dulomak and Kontha, Dissa
Spider Swarm
Event
General Dissa Ray. |
Dissa places a hand on the ankles of the shiver addict, and tries to drag the body as far as possible from the swarm.
Grapple?: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Strength Check?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Medium load is up to 266 lbs, heavy load is up to 400. That's carrying, hopefully Dissa can drag at half speed or greater.
"That should help. Blast those spiders!" Dissa grunts, straining to move the unconscious before they become the dead.
GM Fez |
The swarm continues moving, not willing to let their free meal get away. They begin covering Dissa and the unconscious junkie.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Plus a DC 11 Fortitude save vs poison
And a DC 11 Fortitude save to avoid gaining the nauseated condition for being in the middle of the swarm.
The alleyway continues to take on a strange hue, shifting into purple and green tones that are not normally seen in the waking world.
Order 3rd Round

Spider Swarm
Event
General Dissa Ray. |
"On it!" Dissa slings the ragdoll shiver addict over his shoulder, and positions him in a firemans carry. Then, he totes the unconscious man away from the swarm to give an unobstructed target to the rest of the party.
"Burn them down!" Grunts the Tian warrior, straining to keep his charge safe from both spider and fire.
Dulomak |
Now that the people are out of the way the half orc will concentrate and cast flurry of snow balls on the swarm
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 5) = 17 cold
dc 14 reflex for half.
Cyrene Two-spell |
Cyrene tries valiantly to hold the vomiting urge back, but she feels it rising, like hundreds of tiny spiders crawling up her throat. She collapses forwards and vomits, ejecting mouthfuls of tiny black spiders in great heaves.
The process is simply too disgusting for her to do anything but heave...
Don't think theres much I can do at this point!
GM Fez |
Marina sets the swarm on fire as Dissa takes the addict and leaves. After being superheated Dulomak superchills the bugs, leaving hundreds or thousands of arachnid corpses on the ground. Both Marina and Dulomak can still sort of see the webs and spiders that Dissa and Cyrene continue to be stuck in, but when Cyrene starts vomiting up more spiders they know that these too are real. They quickly swarm over the halfling and start taking bites out of her.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Plus a DC 11 Fortitude save vs poison
And a DC 11 Fortitude save to avoid gaining the nauseated condition for being in the middle of the swarm.
New DC 20 Will saves from Cyrene and Dissa. If those are failed new DC 20 Fortitude saves
Order 4th Round

*New* Spider Swarm
Event
Cyrene Two-spell |
Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Fort vs Swarm Nausea: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Cyrene still feels terrible, but her friends calls help her focus enough that she can, finally, realise that the webs (at least) are not real.
If she can she'll dive out of the way as ordered!
General Dissa Ray. |
Dissa sets the shiver addict down gently, a safe distance from the swarm. He then runs through the new swarm and grabs Cyrene, cradling her in his arms and brushing the bugs away. The heavily armored man attempts to carry his more than friend away from the swarm.
"I'll help you, little genius. Let's get you safe and cleaned up."
Grapple?: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 4 = 12
Fort Save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
GM Fez |
Dissa really likes seeing the webs and spiders, even if he keeps making his Fort saves.
Direction: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Though Marina's toss isn't quite the center of the swarm of spiders she does manage to hit it. Flames whoosh from the cracked bottle and consume the swarm.
Off in the distance you hear the beating of mighty wings against the air, and the scream of some poor soul. Then chittering sounds from around you, likely the sounds of the spiders in the web. The junkie in Dulomak's arms shakes harder, while the two conscious ones huddle next to their stove in fear.
New DC 20 Will save from Dissa, then a DC 20 Fort save if the Will is failed.
Order 5th Round
Cyrene, Marina, Dulomak and Kontha, Dissa
Event
General Dissa Ray. |
What are a few spider webs to a madman?
Will: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 4 = 28
"Ooooh. I see what you were saying now..."
Marina, Servant of Wadjet |
"Maybe if all the conscious people realize the illusion it will stop?"
Marina, not willing to rush after the distant beating wings, tries to use detect magic ....?
"Maybe we can learn more about this magical curse thing, no regular drug could do this..."
Cyrene Two-spell |
Cyrene gives Dissa a queasy smile as he carries her from the swarms but when put down nearly ends up vomiting again.
"There's something else out there!" She murmurs, taking a deep breath to try and hold the nausea down.
She too casts a minor cantrip and examines the scene in front of her, trying not to pay any attention to the spider corpses.
Knw Arc: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
GM Fez |
The more Cyrene looks at the things going on the less she is convinced that this is the work of spell craft. It begins feeling like multiple areas of existence are converging into one.
The webs and spiders infest the alley for a few seconds more, during which time the unconscious junkie begins seizing. Nothing you do seems to work as he finally expires, the color swiftly draining from his flesh leaving an ashy gray pallor. The corpse is marked with the tiny pinpricks of thousands of spider bites, and its flesh is slightly bloated, as though with an incredible amount of poison. The other two addicts shiver, cowering by their stove.
Kontha |
Does she smell anything around that might help us understand what is going on?
Cyrene Two-spell |
"It's not magic!" Cyrene says, trying not to sound scared. "It's like... like reality is bending - merging with another one!"
Kontha |
Kontha will stare at the closest one and emit a low growl.
Cyrene Two-spell |
"Don't worry, she won't bite." Cyrene says confidently, stepping between the dinosaur and the drug addicts. "We're here to help, to find out what's been happening. Can you tell me your names?"
Cyrene Two-spell |
"Hello Reynaldo, Nomi. I'm Cyrene. We're investigating what's been happening here - how the Shiver is effecting people and why they're dying. Can you help us at all?"
The tiny halfling keeps a smile on her face, trying hard not to think about spiders...
GM Fez |
Reynaldo and Nomi take turns talking, each building off the story the other is telling. "Well, we don't know how the drugs work. They just make us feel good, ya know? We aren't even really the one who gets the stuff, that was Frell. And the stuff he got has been giving us weird freaky dreams. Like what happened here! Being pursued by spider swarms. Stuck in webs. Avoiding the Mother Spider that haunts the rooftops.
"Anyways, Frell lived with us until he died. We last saw him after he took us to the Night Market to hocked a bunch of loot he found in an old temple some gang hired him to help clean out. He got us a week's supply with what he had. Yeah, must've been important stuff."
Cyrene Two-spell |
"A mother spider on the rooftops?" Cyrene asks, "That must have been scary! What do you know about it? Do you think fighting it might help stop the dreams?"
GM Fez |
The two begin describing the spider in great detail. Enormous size, dripping fangs, carapace that continues shifting colors, multi-faceted eyes. The issue is that the description continues changing to be more monstrous and terrifying, not giving you a real idea of what it could possibly look like.
After Dulomak asks his question Reynaldo is the one who responds, "Don't know where they got the stuff from, but we do know what was pawned for the shiver if you want to know that."
Cyrene Two-spell |
"That would be helpful." Cyrene says with a smile, since kindness seems to be winning this particular war. "The more we know, the more we can do to help!"
