Bengeirr's Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Haraldir at last draws a clear bead on Bengeirr. Both his arrows slam into the northman's chest, driving him back a step just before Caradeum's snowball strikes the northman's face, shocking him into a sputtering rage.
Owyn continues to spar with one of the guards down on the floor.
Bengeirr is dazed for one round.
Zandibus, go!
[No map change.]
Zandibus the Magnificent |
Ambroscious buries his tusks in his foes belly gore spouting forth! While Zandibus merely stays where he is and directs hiscompanion to change targets if the guard is downed.

_______________________________________________________
I screwed up. First of all, the spiritual weapon should have attacked regardless of whether Bengeirr was stunned or staggered. And yes, it's staggered, not stunned. So Bengeirr can also continue to try to use the lantern.
Spiritual weapon v. Haraldir: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 2 = 171d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Zandibus's Will save (DC 15): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Haraldir once again blocks Bengeirr's spiritual greatsword as it swings down at him. The ulfen priest opens the Lantern of the North, exposing Zandibus to the extreme cold of the far north, but the little gnome toughs it out while Ambroscious impales the final guard on his tusks and hurls his body into the water.
Caradeum, Haraldir & Owyn, go!
Owyn Moravic |
Fearing for the safety of his comrades, Owyn attempts to draw Bengierr's attention by shouting over the sounds of combat "Bengierr! For all your talk of honor and courage, all I see is a coward hiding behind his henchmen and a bag of cheap tricks! A true warrior would face his enemy with not but steel and strength of arm. If you are half the warrior you claim to be, then face me now!"
As he calls out, Owyn will run (triple move) 60 ft.to end his turn standing directly in front of Bengierr.
Haraldir |
Will this flying monstrosity finally disappear if we shoot him down?

Caradeum's arrow strikes Bengeirr's heavy armor, but shatters against it. Both of Haraldir's arrows strike home, however, injuring the big northerner in the thigh and forearm.
Cursing, he prays to Gorum for strength of battle.
Bengeirr's CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Anyone, go!
Zandibus the Magnificent |
Instructing Ambroscious to engage the fellow Zandibus backs away getting off the steps while the elephant moves up to menace Bengeirr.
Haraldir |
Unnerved that the big Ulfen warrior is still standing, Haraldir speaks under his breath "Not for long" before proceeding to shoot him with another pair of projectiles.
Longbow attack 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Point blank shot, Rapid shot

Tarondor |
Owyn rushes up to face Bengeirr in battle. Moments later, the entire loft creaks dangerously as Zandibus's odd but enormous companion follows the paladin up the narrow staircase.
Before that momentous clash can begin, however, a trio of arrows sprout from Bengeirr's shoulder, thigh and chest and he topples over drunkenly before collapsing at Owyn's feet.
[COMBAT OVER. The warehouse is yours.]
Owyn Moravic |
As Owyn comes to a halt in front of the now-dead Bengierr, he turns to his friends on the ground and gives a nod of appreciation. He then sheaths his longsword and scoops up the glowing lantern with his now-free hand. As he turns back to the group, he says "I believe this is what we came for. However, I'm entirely open to a second and third opinion. Quickly, though. I wish to be gone long before the authorities arrive."
At the utterance of that last statement, a perplexed look crosses the paladin's face. He quickly regains his composure, though, as he offers the lantern up to Zandibus and Caradeum for closer inspection.
Caradeum Genwyllian |
Caradeum begins searching the bodies, then takes a look at the lantern.
KN: arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Haraldir |
"This one was strong, let me check if he is really dead. Ulfen warriors do not go so easy" - Haraldir kneels next to Bengeirr's fallen body, trying to establish if the man can be returned from Pharasma's grasp.
Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Tarondor |
Haraldir learns that Bengeirr is dying, but not dead.
Caradeum discovers that the only magic in the warehouse (other than what the Pathfinders might carry) is the lantern and something in a nearby box.
The loft contains what must be Skelg's stolen goods. There are carpets, urns, sculptures, and other works of art. There is also a box containing two vials of reddish liquid neatly labeled "cure moderate wounds".
Owyn Moravic |
Despite Owyn's eagerness to leave, the paladin's code requires that he at least try to save the coward's life. I'll be performing a heal check to stabilize Bengierr.
Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Well, I tried. I'm not exactly shedding any tears over the loss, though.
Zandibus the Magnificent |
Zandibus examines the lantern eagerly, "Well I think we just get this thing back to our accursed friend and see if we cannot get him sorted out. We might have to go into the tapestry using it!"
Caradeum Genwyllian |
Caradeum walks over the the box and examines it for traps. If he deems the box safe, he will look for the source of the magic.
T20 for 25
Haraldir |
Finding still some signs of life in Bengeirr, Haraldir does his best to keep him alive.
Heal/First aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Heal/First aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
I have included two tries, since first one was not enough, and in case we are allowed a repeated attempt.
Caradeum Genwyllian |
Ah, I misunderstood that it was the same box.
Caradeum moves over toward the ship, looking around. "Now what? Should we examine the ship?"
Zandibus the Magnificent |
Zandibus looks shocked, "We are Pathfinders not thieves! So let's find a path to some nice portable loot! Though someone else can go first, I'm out of magic, I'll have Ambroscious defend you."
Just take 20 searching the ship if there are no obstacles?
Haraldir |
"Slowly there, my gnome friend. Don't you think we should talk to this guy first (Yes, he is alive....now), before we search for some portable booty? Some answers might help, don't ya think? Now, pass me some rope please or something to tie this guy down with, before we awake him for questioning"
Owyn Moravic |
"I agree that some answers are in order, but not here. Perhaps we could bring him back to Skelg's manor and question him there? I daresay he's much more transportable in his current state than if he were awake."
Owyn Moravic |
Owyn goes on to say "At any rate, take my rope to subdue him while I move to investigate the ship with Caradeum. Once we've ensured that there are no nasty surprises waiting for us, we'll decide what to do with this coward."
Judging from the previous posts, Ambroscious, possibly Caradeum, and I will board the ship to conduct a quick search while Haraldir ties up Bengierr. What do we find, Tarondor?
Tarondor |
All the goods in the warehouse were piled on the balcony with Bengeirr. There is nothing else of note but the ship.
This ship is a simple one-level longship with benches for rowers and a single mast. In the bottom of the ship are seven bodies tightly wrapped in sailcloth. A mundane lantern of similar size and design to the Beacon of the North hangs from the prow of the ship.
Owyn Moravic |
While Caradeum is switching the two lanterns to see their effects, Owyn will make his way over to one of the windows facing the street and peer out to see if the fight has attracted any attention outside.
Haraldir |
Haraldir proceeds to tie Bengeirr, and then stands guard over him waiting to see if the Ulfen leader will awake by himself, while his comrades search the ship and the warehouse.
Did anyone take those two potions of Cure Moderate Wounds? And if not - why not?
Owyn Moravic |
Confirming that they haven't drawn any attention to themselves, Owyn feels more secure in questioning the Ulfen here. He moves over to Bengierr and channels the healing powers of Iomedae with the touch of his hand.
Lay on Hands: 1d6 ⇒ 3
If that's not enough to bring him back, then Owyn will take one of the healing potions we found and feed it to him (If anyone in the group objects, feel free to stop me and we'll use something else.).
Potion of Cure Mod. Wounds: 2d8 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 1 = 6
Owyn Moravic |
"What I want is the truth." Replies Owyn as he stares down at Bengierr. "To start, what is your grudge with Skelg and what is your interest with this lantern?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Zandibus the Magnificent |
Zandibus nods, "Tell us what we can do to remove the curse, or I'll get inventive - for starters I'll sew sequins into all your clothing!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Owyn Moravic |
"Of course he did," replies Owyn in an unimpressed tone. "But that still doesn't explain your connection with the lantern or how to break the curse."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Owyn Moravic |
"Oh, what a shame," says Owyn as he grabs Bengierr and hoists him up by the scruff of his shirt. "I guess this means your brief moment of usefulness has come to an end."
"Unless, of course, anybody else has any questions?"
Owyn Moravic |
"Very well then," says Owyn after a long, silent pause. "We shall return to Skelg with the lantern and attempt to unlock it's secrets. But first, I believe we'll drop you off at the at first society lodge we come to. We'll see what the local venture captain there has to say about your attempted homicide of a fellow member." And with that, Owyn begins leading Bengierr towards the door.
Haraldir |
"Aye" - Haraldir states briefly. He was never very strong with words, and he was very happy that they had both Owyn and Zandibus to cover those areas. Although, truth be told, ranger was having quite an issue in understanding half of the things which were coming from sylvan sorcerer's mouth, while his choice of companion was a bit...unusual. Still, Zandibus has proven his worth and he was a capable, if not a bit eccentric Pathfinder comrade, and Haraldir respected that.
Helping Bengeirr up, ranger proceeds to guide him slowly following Owyn's instructions. If OK with everyone, I am OK with proceeding - deliver Ulfen to nearest lodge, and get back to Skelg with lantern, as Owyn suggested
Zandibus the Magnificent |
Zandibus waves a hand airily, "Let us be about this, I need to pick up some ermine trim to make Ambroscious's saddle really pop."
Sounds good to me.
