I believe she is correct, as the unchained barbarian receives a straight bonus to damage, rather than a bonus to strength. I don't see anything in the uBarb's rage feature that says the increase works like strength or power attack and gives 1.5x damage when using a two-handed weapon.
UC barb.. Right, that's what we are testing out...

Balazar Unchained |

=)
47 seemed enough!
The straight +2 to to hit and damage also makes ranged barbarians more attractive.
All in all, I think its a good tradeoff for that 1 point less from strength on a 2-hander.
It doesn't actually improve hit rate with a bow though. As for two weapon fighting, for that you probably want two weapon slice anyway, so it would work out to be roughly the same. Though if path of war is allowed it does make a dex based barbarian viable.

It makes the chakram barbarian (aka Xena) pretty attractive though.
I'm sure you're aware of this, Balazar, but 1 Con damage does pretty much nothing. Unless you take more, it doesn't apply any penalties.

of course it does.
Old rage: +4 to strength... no change to attack rolls, and +2 to damage IF you had an appropriate composite bow.
New rage: +2 to hit and damage straight up, not tied to strength anymore... so your hit rate with the bow improves, and you still get the +2 to damage, and all without the composite bow requirement.
So it works on all ranged stuff including stuff like crossbows and the like that strength had no affect on at all before.
Better across the board.

While in a rage, a barbarian gains a +2 bonus on melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, thrown weapon damage rolls, and Will saving throws. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. She also gains 2 temporary hit points per Hit Die. These temporary hit points are lost first when a character takes damage, disappear when the rage ends, and are not replenished if the barbarian enters a rage again within 1 minute of her previous rage. While in a rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skill (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration (such as spellcasting).
Nothing in there about hit chance with a bow.
@GM Paladin: Aye, I know.

Balazar Unchained |

hmm... coulda sworn it was just a +2 to ranged and melee...
didn't realize it was just thrown stuff.
Still... better then before I suppose. Just not as nice as I'd thought. 8(
edit: actually just reread that again... not even a + on thrown stuff to hit, just damage. Bah. Even less interesting =)
The main benefit is the temporary HP, which is actually really nice. They've also altered quite a few rage powers, introducing the concept of stances, which are a move action to activate. I'm not sure I like the stances. A move action is a high cost in a world of iteratives. Without the stances, the rest of the rage powers are usually just worse.

The Urban Barbarian is pretty good with bows, as she can give herself a bonus to strength and dexterity. The Savage Technologist can too, although thematically it's more of the swords-and-laser-pistols kind of fantasy.

*nods* Thrown weapons are fun, for sure. I'm just trying to imagine what a bow-barbarian would feel like, and how you'd capture 'barbarian' with it, and make it feel different from every generic archer build. I rarely play bow-archers because while they arguably have some of the best DPS in the game, I find 'stand in place and fire arrows the entire battle' to be boring to play.
I'm idly envisioning a class feature that makes your bow adaptive for purposes of STR enhancements coming from your rage (but not adjustments from other sources), and maybe a 'barrage' cone of arrows ability-- an attack roll at a -5 versus all foes in a 15 ft cone, a single roll, vs each creature's AC...
/babble. RPGSS is getting to me. :P

Note: Although Merisiel's pregen doesn't include thieves' tools, the Disable Device skill doesn't appear to include a penalty for lacking tools. I'll let you assume you have ordinary thieves' tools.

Amiri, Kinslayer |

Open Locks: The DC for opening a lock depends on its quality. If you do not have a set of thieves' tools, these DCs increase by 10.
Which is odd, since the text for the thieves' tools says
Without these tools, you must use improvised tools, and you take a –2 circumstance penalty on Disable Device checks.
Which I can only assume means with just your hands, its -10, if you can improvise something to use (like a dagger, or a paper clip) its just a -2.

You're right, I was misreading the spell. OK, just Amiri and Sajan need to save.

There is actually an archtype for this. the Primal Hunter

In regarding to jump height, I realize it's not entirely realistic, but after all, Amiri with her giant-sized sword has the same reach as Merisiel with one of her daggers. I had to pick an acrobatics DC to jump high enough to attack the creature. I picked 20.
So, we're wrapping this up here. Please let me know what PFS# character and name you'd like this applied to. Since it's no XP and no GP, I don't think I end up reporting it on the site, but I'll double check. If you're not sure what character you want to apply it to, I can leave that part blank.

![]() |

You should probably do the reporting, if for no other reason as to get your GM credit :-) It also means we can't apply the sheet to another character :-(
What are the rules for the character level that we can apply this to? Does it have to be fifth?

![]() |

You can assign it to a lower-level character, but you won't gain its benefits until that character reaches the level. You can't assign it to a character above 6th level.
There's a one-time-use boon giving you a boost against fiends, and it gives you access to purchase a version of the spear/arrow used in the quest, either as an arrow or as a spear, that uses the scaling magic item rules from Pathfinder Unchained. As those are not normally PFS legal, it's pretty unique.
It's not cheating at all, since this is replayable and can be assigned to multiple characters. (Any chronicle that gives no XP or coin, including this one and the Pathfinder Tales chronicles, can be assigned to as many of your characters as you want.) If you decide you want to assign it to a different character, I'll be happy to change the number on the chronicle for you.

![]() |

Nope, just as a spear.

![]() |

Just waiting for the last PFS number.
Amiri: 84637-11
Balazar: 149136-1 Avril Axiel
Dien: 30341-5 Dorn Gritstone
Five: 100387-5 Rhuul Irontoe
Let me know if anyone can't read and download their sheet, or if I made any mistakes.

![]() |

No problem. I'll send all of you a PM when the gameday start date approaches. I'll also take into consideration feedback you've given me during this run.
Here's your chronicle, Belka: 21768-2 Belka

Paladin of Baha-who? |

Sorry, minor issue, but Dorn's number is: 30341-8, not -5. Thanks!
Here you go. Sorry about that.
I'm going to mark this campaign inactive in about 24 hours.
