Hopefully I don't miss much with it being a weekend, but I'm unlikely to post. Please bot me as necessary!

Doorway Discussions:

Didn't Gruug start off adjacent to the door (admittedly on an angle).
So move action to open it, then a single move up to the lady. (Though no attack at the end)
That seems the simplest solution without modifying the existing rules.

Heck, I hadn't even noticed there was another door up there =)

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

Yes, he did. You can see it in the Feb 25, 12:48 iteration of the map.

I'm good either way-- you've all put up with a long burn on this one and I'm just trying to keep the action moving. Whatever the table decides is fine by me.

I have no strong opinion either way. Tend to find PFS kind of rules tight, but whatever you like DM.

Good catch on acrobatics--I take 8 damage. Concentration was failed anyway.

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

Alright, since there's a preference to rules tight, I'll stick to the conservative text.

In which case, Saarai, you can get to the space directly in front of the door, and then open it. Gruugdúrz can then move through the door and attack, and we'll stick to a more straight progression.

I'll adjust the map and proceed from there this morning, unless there are any objections, and we can discuss.

Sovereign Court

NG Dwarf Barbarian 9 / Fighter 1

On the plus side, if it had cast it (or anything else) it would all go away when it died!

Hmm... wonder if that might free up Miyako (killing the Xill, that is)

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

Spells with concentration go away when the caster dies, but a spell with a set duration remains effective until the duration completes.

For Miyako, that's a poison. The poison remains effective until cured/treated or the duration expires.

Sovereign Court

NG Dwarf Barbarian 9 / Fighter 1

Oh, I was refering to the general rule for summoned critters...

aka:

'When the spell that summoned a creature ends and the creature disappears, all the spells it has cast expire.'

So you can't summon a beastie, have it buff you, then send it away and keep the buff, for instance. (So no summoning lantern archons to create everburning torches (though I suppose that falls under the no expensive material components part... ok, bad example!)

This applies to physical stuff too as far as I know.

Like a summoned dire rat can't actually give you a disease, since once it goes away, the disease goes with it.

Thought that might apply to the poison. (Was just being hopeful =))

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

Oh! The summons for the daemons are different in this case-- they're not straight summon monster WHATEVER spells, but that nebulous "demons bound to a task based on a bargain with a spell caster which cannot simply be dispelled but remains undefined in the book unless you've created your own incantation to do the trick" sort of summons. Different situation, but yes, I see what you're saying. We're set for now on things for that regard. Everyone in these encounters is a proverbial "real boy," at least so far...except for the celestial eagles, that is.

Sovereign Court

NG Dwarf Barbarian 9 / Fighter 1

Oh, they're called!

See, you're awesome descriptions of their dissolving is what confused me!

Eaglemania!

Sovereign Court

NG Dwarf Barbarian 9 / Fighter 1

Terraleon, there seems to be some things out of order here making it seem like Sidney (and the eagles) missed a turn. You're round count is off.

Sidney's bevy of eagles should have gone first (before the Xill mauls Saarai and the caster lady flies back and shoots at us)
Which might have removed an image (or 2) before Sickly's AoO and his turn. Not to mention added possible eagle AoO as she flew backwards.

Just to recap (remembering that Sickly is the last to go in each round):

Round 7: Sidney is summoning. Xill appears, paralyzes Miyako. Sickly double moves.

Round 8: Eagles show up and attack Xill, Sid starts summoning again. Saarai jumps off the roof. Gruug climbs down. Daemon shows up. Caster lady appears and creates pit. Miyako falls in. Sid falls in, casting interrupted. Xill mauls eagles (1 remains). Sickly avoids pit then gets lucky and pastes demon.

Round 9: Sid starts summoning again. Saarai opens door. Gruug goes through and misses caster lady. Caster lady teleports, creates another pit. Gruug falls in. Xill moves and bites Saarai. Sickly jumps over first pit, stabs caster.

Round 10
Saarai moves and backstabs caster lady. Gruug throws away sling bullet. Eagles show up and attack caster lady and Sid starts summoning again. Xill mauls Saarai, paralyzing her. Caster lady flies up and back and blasts Saarai, dropping her unconscious. Sickly to go

The bold bits didn't happen!

You have the round count at 9, its actually the end of 10 going into 11

Don't know if I missed a round. If I did, the eagles could have grabbed a flank.

Just would be summoning eagles every round I can.

Turns out this fight was not the easy fight against a bunch of mooks it was cracked up to be.

I guess we violated Rule Zero = don't split the party.

EDIT: Read Sickly's post in discussion, and I concur.

So now, the eagles have attacked, Sickly has attacked, I need to provide a results post, and then it's Sidney's turn again in Round 11, as everyone else is out of the action-- although Gruugdúrz could do something in the pit in round 11.

Correct? (Favorite this post to indicate agreement, please.)

Sorry, that was me. I had to deal with something yesterday which delayed me. My apologies. I've posted. I just need Saarai's stabilization roll, and then Sidney's post.

Hopefully this has been enjoyable, I'm very sorry for the confusion and delays here recently. :/

-Ben.

Sovereign Court

NG Dwarf Barbarian 9 / Fighter 1

Heh. Delays are par for the course for this one =)

Just out of curiosity, shouldn't at least one of those eagles have done damage?

The attacks were a natural 20 with smite (vs image), a natural 20 with smite (vs wizard), a 5 with smite, and a 19 no smite

So the first took out an image, the 2nd natural 20 (that did 7 damage) should have gotten through regardless of her AC as 20's are automatic hits , the 3rd missed, and the 4th, if the 19 missed vs AC, might have taken the last image at least, if her ac is 24 or less.

Though at this point, I'm just relieved she's unconscious!
Hopefully the Xill will be compelled to come protect her!

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

The first 20 is on an image, so it's lost, the second one hits her (I missed that, my bad, I confused it with the one above) but does not confirm. The fourth one will hit. There's no flanking on any of them, which jumbles it, a little, but they didn't do enough to knock her out before your second attack. It does put her lower...

I'll leave it there, but yes, even with the damage from them, she makes it to your second attack.

Sovereign Court

NG Dwarf Barbarian 9 / Fighter 1

Ya, not a big deal... was kinda confusing for sure!

On the plus side, I think Sid might be out of the monster summoning 2's... so might just be 1 eagle at a time from here on out. =)
Its like a Hitchcock movie!

I started with four DC 15 flight checks to hover.

If the eagle cannot hover without the feat, I can adjust the lone eagle that attacked the sorceresses actions.

Sovereign Court

NG Dwarf Barbarian 9 / Fighter 1

There are 6 eagles in play, not 5.
(1 remaining from his second summon (smiting xill), 3 from his fourth (all smiting wizard), and the 2 new ones from his fifth and last (smiting xill))
One (the one attacking the wizard) is not represented on the main map... though it is shown on the makeshift side view.

Perhaps this is why there's confusion?

I added a colored border around them to match the main map to the side view, if it helps.

So 5 attacking xill, 1 attacking wizard. Nobody is flanking.

Still need to add the missing eagle to the main map though.

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

The xill just cleared out 4. I'll put one back at the 7o'clock position.

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

Well, this is a nailbiter, isn't it? :)

Sovereign Court

NG Dwarf Barbarian 9 / Fighter 1

Only one biting is the Xill!

Though technically, this is probably like a CR 10 or 11 encounter, all told... at APL 5! So not surprising its a little hairy!
Feels like we're fighting every critter in the scenario all in one long battle here.

I blame Sidney! =)

Male not always to the swift nor the strong. Bard6 / Paladin2 / Fighter2 / Magus4 / Dad2

You have fought almost every foe in a long battle, and yes, it was started by the alarm raised early on. That alerted the first daemon, who then telepathically alerted the others once it confirmed the issue, all of whom then mobilized to respond based on the alarm.

We haven't even addressed the fact that the town watch has been called from that rooftop bell.

And you've all still got to find the missing Riftwardens.

Sure thing. It lasts 1-4 hours.

And as much as I look, I cannot find a frequency for that poison in the PRD or errata. I will allow another save with a DC 16 Heal check from another PC, or an antitoxin. The antitoxin will not require a check and will provide the +5 alchemical bonus to the check. Spell effects which would affect a poisoned state work normally.

I don't have an antitoxin on me that you can use on me. Does anyone else have one, or a good Heal modifier?

As a matter of fact, I do have an antitoxin, though I am unconscious. The best I can do for healing is of the infernal variety, though I do have my own wand and could start working on that while we move if someone can get me up.

Also, great work, especially to Sickly and Sidney. This would have been a TPK otherwise.

Question: since you can take mental actions while paralyzed... can Miyako turn into a fox? Be easier to haul her out of the pit if she's small. Though I suppose it will probably end on its own soon regardless.
