Nithrun's keen eyes skim through the room, despite the darkness what he can see are drawings.
The oldest and most obscured of these drawings depict scenes of the Thrune family being savaged and brutalized by humans and devil-kin alike. The newest scrawlings depict civilians burning under a Chelish flag.
The bones are leftovers from animal and humanoid creatures that met their end in Arenzo’s jaws.

heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Samildanach spits at the drawings, though he could care less for the subject matter, as far as he was concerned all Chelaxians could happily die in a fire, it was the medium that disturbed the Pirate.
"These were painted with Dried blood of all things and the amount of bones is disturbing.

![]() |

Heal: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
"No less disturbing is the subject of the paintings. If what is depicted in them is based in fact, I think we might understand better the hostility of the thrunes."

![]() |
The next room holds a faint sound of a mix of growls and groans.....................................a slight yet unmistakeable scent of blood

![]() |

Samildanach nods to Nithrun and then shrugs, little they could do about it now and a further search of the place would need to wait until the 'creature' was dealt with.
"Well it seems our foe awaits through there, shall we press on and tackle this Monster?"

Arriving in the room, the party finds the floor slippery with spilled
blood.
Heaps of oozing entrails are slowly slithering back into the troll’s gashed abdomen. This partiular troll is in a bad shape hanging upside down with a thick chain looped around its ankles. Several wounds marks the exit of it blood, swinging on those chains it fails to claw its tormentors!
Collectively, these make for treacherous footing, and a creature must succeed at a DC 10 Acrobatics check in order to run or charge in this area. If a creature fails this check by 5 or more, it falls prone.

Interesting, my post earlier got eaten.
Tog takes a step forward and speaks.
"Tog smash Ghoul soon."
Tog raises his club overhead with both hands and readies to attack the ghoul.
club: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Nithrun picks up an instrument and starts to play a heroic tune for his companions.
Inspire courage: +1 competence bonus to attack and damage, +1 vs. fear and charms

![]() |

Samildanach looks on at the room with disgusted awe before raising his holy symbol and chanting a prayer to Gozreh.
"Back to the depths with ye you abominations!"
Channel energy: 1d6 ⇒ 5 DC 13 Will for half
He then takes a step forwards level with Tog

Bold is up.
A wave of positive energy wells out from Samildanach but both undead creatures ignore it as they rush forward in anticipation of a meal!
The closest one steps up to Tog and lashes out while receving a well deserved bash to its head! Teeth and claws lashes out at the mighty Tough Half orc!
The other skirts along the walls as if avoiding something.

![]() |

Samildanach eyes the flanking ghoul warily and keeps his ground, keeping the casters of the their party behind the armoured Half-orc wall. Seeing tooth and claww miss Tog, Samildanach holds his ground and raises his symbol again, calling upon Gozreh's hurricane to smite the ghouls.
"Nasty spawns of a twisted Mind, we shall destroy you and send you back to the afterlife where your tormented souls belong!"
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 5 DC 13 Will for half

Tog explains "Tog smite ghoul now."
Tog once again raises his club with 2 hands above his head and smites the ghoul in front of him.
smite club: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 3 = 15
+2 AC vs that ghoul.

Are first-level spells still forbidden? If so, I don't see how I can do much other than continue to perform without spells or weapons.

![]() |

Magni's hands suddenly take fire and a vivid blaze jumps out of them and towards the last remaining ghoul!
Ranged Touch Attack (produce flame): 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 - 4 = 15 -> Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8

![]() |
I assume that Tog goes and Smites the remaining GHoul since the one in front is dead.
Why are first level spells forbidden? I don't get that part.
Try as it might this time, the ghoul is severely burnt and it screams in anger.
"I'll feast on your brains!!! Miscreants!" It have said more but Tog silences it with a mighty blow to his jaw, shattering it and sending the remaining pieces agains the wall!!!!
Combat over.
Hanging from the ceiling the still living troll follows your movement with wary eyes......

![]() |

Samildanach eyes the Troll warily and then slowly paces around the room the way the ghoul had when it came to attack them. Looking through the refuse and bones, the Pirate looks for some clue as to what exactly was going on here as so far they had... very little to report back with, apart from the fact that place had been infested with unusually intelligent ghouls and that Zarta was a potential Aspis traitor...
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
"Well, such a sight is unusual. What should we do with the creature? I think ending it would be a mercy at this juncture..."

![]() |

I must have gotten confused. The official had said in the beginning not to cast spells within 5 miles of the Esoterium, and I apparently incorrectly assumed that was still in effect.
"Whatever the case, this place seems to have some kind of a connection to the Thrunes. Maybe the painting on the wall could serve as a source for some of the history of the conflict, especially if we could identify any of the humans as Davians."

![]() |
The troll looks at all of you and finally attempts to gesture towards the chains holding it up. its withered claw points towards where the chains are hooked on opposite Tog.....
"S.....et.....F...r.....e.eeee" it speaks in a guttural broken common.

![]() |

"Ush!" says Magni as he starts searching the place "We'll decide what to do with you later. Now be silent and let us do our job"
Perception check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

![]() |

Samildanach looks at the troll with an upraised brow, surprised the thing could talk to them, and impressed that it was still alive. Still searching he turns to the bound creature and rolls his eyes.
"Why should we do that? WHat exactly will you do if we do free you?"
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

![]() |
Magni finds naught but an empty bag which he discovers to be magical in nature.
Meanwhile a surprised Samildanach discovers that the troll could speak and is more intent in escaping to lick its wounds.

![]() |

Samildanach shrugs and sighs deeply, nothing here seemed to make sense, Ghouls feasting on a Troll? A place daubed in ages old blood and bones, now wonder the Captain declared that this Society was 'Interesting', though the Pirate wasn't sure how 'interesting' he could take.
"Well fellows, what shall we do with them? Feels like if we let 'em go we will have to lead it past the Harvest folk, yet killing a bound sentient creature feels a tad wrong."

![]() |

"The leshies would be the ones endangered by the troll, so maybe we should ask what they think," Nithrun says, pitying the bound troll but trying to consider the consequences.

![]() |
"Se......t.......f....r.e...e........g....o......hom.....e" THe troll grunts out.
"N.......o.......e.at.....g....o......h.....om....e."

![]() |

Samildanach shrugs and starts to make his way out of the chamber, again making sure to hug the walls. Once out he will head towards Harvest and the Leshys upstairs, careful not to stand on the grass.
"Hello Harvest, the creatures have been felled but we find ourselves in a quandary. Th' abominations captured a Troll to use as a never ending meal. The troll it seems can speak and begs release." he stops awkwardly before continuing.
"It seems genuine enough and expresses that it won't try to eat your plants, merely head home. We thought it would be best to ask you as it is your home it will pass through."

![]() |
Harvest looks at Samildanach.
"We shall hide till it passes us by but the decision would lie upon you great heroes." after a brief counsultaion with what could pass for elder leshys based on their coloring.

![]() |

"Well then, would you hide now? The troll looks a little desperate," Nithrun says, noting that the troll was more than ready to be let free.

![]() |
The leshy quickly disappear into the foilage, their years of experience showing as they literally move and melt into their surroundings.

![]() |

"I suppose we could free the brute. At the very least it could inconvenience those nasty devil woeshippers..." suggests Magni

![]() |

Samildanach nods, it would seem they were in agreement to free the Troll and so the Half-Orc heads downstairs with his companions and back to the Ghoul's foul lair. He turns to the Troll and growls threateningly.
"We're gonna be lettin' ye go Troll, though don't get any ideas or we will reduce ye to nothin' but Ash!"
Looking around for mechanism, Samildanach helps lower the chain

![]() |
The troll upon lowered and freed makes a dash for teh exit exceedingly glad to be away from the place of its torment. It ignores everything, everybody and every injury it has picked up in its haste. Its wounds now clearly visible, it has being munched on pretty much on every part of its body and signs of its regeneration still shows.....
The Pathfinder Society’s missions in Cheliax are far from over. Zefiro Balinger is working to provide a better picture of what PCs can expect to find at the next sanctioned site of archaeological interest—across the straight to Garund and the province of Kharijite. The Chelish holiday of Loyalty Day draws nearer, and already officials are declaring that Queen Abrogail II, in her wisdom, directed statesanctioned scholars to unearth the lowly and treasonous Davian legacy. News of Arenzo’s fate serves to fuel the starving imaginations of the nation as its people prepare for the celebration.
You all head back for a well deserved rest and likely more interested members wanting to join you for the next mission.

"As the Sun greets the lands each day, so do I greet you my fellows!" smiles one of those new pathfinders.
"As the wind carries the leaves, so is word of your deeds in Cheliax brought to my ears."
