Surprise round
Jorah glides into the room, being sure to stay near the back and keeping a pillar on one side.
Round 1
In his celestial tongue, he starts a prayer to Desna, and the purple and silver butterfly emblazoned on his shield starts to glow. Suddenly, the shield returns to normal and a burst of holy light appears in the back of the room.
Burst of Radiance DC 18 centered between the back 2, which will hit all 4 in the back row.
Damage: 5d4 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 4, 1) = 12

Still missing Ezren and Magt, I'll give them a bit more time before rolling forward. If anyone has some botting suggestions for their characters, I'm all ears!
The Restful Spirit |
My suggestion for Ezren and Magt's botted actions are as follows:
Ezren: Casts Glitterdust in the surprise round, hitting baddies unaffected by the Burst of Radiance. After that, I dunno... Perhaps use his Wand of Magic Missile to take out wounded undead.
Magt: Move 30 ft into the room in the surprise round. Then continue moving up to the closest baddie and hit them with his horsechopper.

The Restful Spirit
Jorah
Magt
Ezren
Thallin
Dreggar
Ghouls
Festrogs
Most of you move in before the creatures notice you, Magt and Thallin decide to take advantage of the surprise. Magt charges in with his horsechopper, and seriously wounds one of the ghouls. Thallin fires on one of the festrogs and scores a wound as well. A jet of foul-smelling liquid gushes from the arrow wound back in Thallin's direction, but he is not close enough to be contacted by the nasty stuff.
The Restful Spirit lets loose with a trio of flurries, two of which strike the ghoul before him and put it down. Jorah floats in and calls upon Desna's bright countenance to singe and blind the creatures on the back row. By the looks of it, only one still has his sight. Magt strikes again with his horsechopper, but misses the target this time. Ezren studies the group and quickly picks the point that will do the most damage to the most undead, but he will likely be vulnerable if they don't fall from the spell. The flames burst forth, finishing off the ones his friends had already harmed, but the other two are merely scorched and eyeing the wizard hungrily.
Thallin finds his intended target is now gone and he can not see any others through the narrow vantage point of the doorway. He moves into the room to gain a wider perspective and notes the target Dreggar is focusing on. He fires an arrow to soften the creature up before it can act. Dreggar moves in and studies his opponent, readying to receive it's advance.
The undead seem to all move at once, as if triggered by a signal. The ghouls rush forward, one of them going for The Restful Spirit, but the nimble monk easily avoids it's lunging jaws. The one Dreggar awaits does just as he predicted and comes for him, but he spits it's maw wide open with his readied axe and it falls to the ground in pieces. One from the back of the group covers some territory to reach the dwarf, but it only just makes it and not in enough time for a quick bite. One of the scorched ghouls moves in on Ezren and lands a bite on the wizard's forearm. Ezren takes 4 damage, but fortunately makes his saves.
Then the dog-things move into action. One of them moves lightning fast on all fours to move around on Dreggar and crunches down onto his leg. Dreggar takes 8 damage. The scorched festrog moves on Ezren, snapping it's jaws at him, but it's aim is poor and merely tears the hem of his robe.
Three of the undead whimper and mewl in the back of the room, still stinging from Jorah's spell and clearly unable to see.
Everyone is up for round 2!

That was me! Your intended studied target was already down by your turn, and no other enemies were visible to you from the hall, so I exchange your move to study for a regular move. Tried to indicate that in the narration here:

The Restful Spirit's blade whirls and slices, making short work of one of the ghouls. Jorah finishes off the blind back row with another dose of Desna's holy radiance. Magt attacks the festrog mauling Ezren and kills it in one clean chop, but the creature's infectious pustules spray stinking pus back at him, infecting him with disease. Magt is infected with Necrotic Boils, but the disease won't kick in for a full day.
Ezren backs up and lets loose another cone of flames, burning but not killing his undead attackers. Thallin fires on one of the festrogs, but misses his target. Dreggar turns his axe on the ghoul between himself and the monk and hews through dead flesh and bone, nearly splitting the creature in two.
The few remaining undead move into position to inflict maximum damage. One follows after Ezren, biting and clawing at the wizard but unable to make contact. Another moves in on Magt and manages to sink it's teeth into him, though it is a shallow bite. Magt takes 2 damage and needs to roll 2 Fort saves vs disease and paralysis (DC 13), in that order. Trying to cut him a break, since if I did it in my normal fashion, he'd fail 3 saves in one post! >_<
The last festrog attacks Dreggar snapping it's skeletal jaws down on his forearm and shaking as it sucks greedily at the wound. Dreggar takes 10 damage from the bite.
And everyone is up!

Running low on spells, Ezren takes another step back and draws his dagger and flings it at the ghoul encroaching on him. The blade sticks in it's throat and it falls.
Thallin scores a wound on the last creature standing, but it is not enough to fell it. Jorah and Dreggar fail to hit their targets.
The last lone festrog continues to maul Dreggar with a single-minded ferocity. Apparently dwarf is not often on the menu and the undead thing seems to becoming a connoisseur as it sinks it's teeth in his wounded arm again, slurping grotesquely. It rakes his torso as well, really beginning to do some serious damage. Dreggar takes 14 damage!

Combat Over!
Once the ghouls and festrogs no longer command your immediate attention, you all take a moment to obseve your surroundings. The ceiling is about 20 feet high near the walls and rises to 30 feet at the apex. The pillars in here seem to shift and move in your peripheral vision. The thing in the center of the room appears to be a rotting gray-green blob of flesh. The mass is roughly 20 feet in diameter and 10 feet tall, and it bears hundreds of jagged, poorly-healed scars that look as if parts have been ripped away with claws and teeth.
There is a door that leads off this room in the northwest corner as well as a collapsed passageway.(just about where Ezren is standing) A cave-in has completely choked this hall with rubble and small boulders. It looks as if it will require extensive work to excavate it.
The Restful Spirit |
"Unless any of you have some business with that thing," The Restful Spirit points at the blob, "I say we venture through the door."

Whether or not the mass of flesh is undead is not clear. Magt suspects it is some kind of magical creation so Ezren detects magic and examines it for a few moments. "It has both necromantic and evil auras. Perhaps it was created by Sevenfingers himself to feed the undead creatures that guard this place."
It does not seem to be able to move on it's own, but as you look on, the angry red welts where flesh was ripped away and consumed have sealed over into dark pink scars as it heals rapidly before your eyes.
After giving the room a thorough once over, Dreggar discovers a secret door between the collapsed passage and door, all of which lead to the west.
For clarity, your options are:
1) Do something about the freaky fast-healing undead buffet.
2) Clear the rubble from the collapsed passage.
3) Go through the obvious door.
4) Go through the secret door.
Let me know what you want to do.
Thallin Quin |
"We could pile up the undead, close to the mound of flesh, and burn the entire lot. That would probably stop the mound of flesh from regenerating and eliminate the chance that the undead would be tampered with later."
Thallin glances around the room to confirm that there is enough ventilation for such a fire.

Yup, seems to be undead. Let's kill it.
Well, probably not undead. But since it feeds them, we should still eliminate it.
Thallin Quin |
If it looks like there will be enough ventilation to accomodate the fire, Thallin will move into the previous room and begin collecting burnable wood from the three that is growing in the entrance.
After collecting enough wood, he begins pilling the wood and the undead on (or next to) the pile of flesh. Once the pile is ready, he will light it on fire.
"If this works, it should destroy it."
The Restful Spirit |
While the rest of the party discuss how best to destroy the fleshy abomination, The Restful Spirit keeps an eye on both doors.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
bluedove |
Magt's holy water does indeed seem to inflict harm on the fleshy mass.
Ezren concludes that a substantial fire will serve well for killing off the abomination, but it might well serve for killing off all of you as well. Subterranean fires are probably better left until you are on the way out.
No traps are found on either the mundane or secret door.
There is no sign of the Orb of Stars as yet.
