Herr Magt Jaeger |
Magt first uses his periscope to peer over the edge without silhouetting himself against the sky. When he sees nothing threatening, he leans his head over the side to peer into the depths.
Can I see anything else or how deep it is with my darkvision?
Hmm... As ell as tying it off, I will hold the rope in case we need to quickly pull you back up.
Thallin Quin |
I don't think this was asked, so i'm going to ask it. How deep is the ravine. I apologize in advance if this has already been disclosed.
Thallin accepts Dregar's rope and begins placing knots into it, to provide an easier climb.
"This will help anyone who might find the climb challenging."
bluedove |
The shaft extends 30 feet down before reaching the 10-foot ceiling of the room below. So a total of 40 feet, 50 feet of rope should work, even with the knots.
Ok, a knotted rope is DC 5, so everyone will be able to get down easily with a take 10.
The Restful Spirit makes it down first without incident and Ezren follows after him next. But once Ezren is about halfway down, some mechanism is triggered and a half dozen of the idols tumble forward off their shelves and plummet down onto the unsuspecting Pathfinders. The first one strikes Ezren, it's weight mostly glancing off him as it crumbles to bits on impact. But the next one catches The Restful Spirit unawares, crushing down on him quite solidly. Ezren is hit again, this one landing much more squarely in the middle of his back and knocking the breath from his body while another strikes the monk below. Fortunately, the wily wizard is able to maintain his grip on the rope through it all and lowers himself down once he can draw breath again.
Ezren takes a total of 15 damage and The Restful Spirit is down a whopping 25 hit points!

Map is updated!
Note there is a shadow of the crack above you showing on this map, that should really be a spot of brighter light, but alas, I didn't design these maps. Place your tokens where you like.
Once the dust clears from the idol avalanche, the rest of you are able to make your way down without further incident. The mud and broken statuary at the bottom of the shaft make for difficult terrain. The idol statues squat in their niches, the shadows cast upon their corroded faces from Jorah's light on the floor lends them a leering quality. Cavern pests creep in the gloom, scurrying away from your movement and light. A single door is set in the stone wall, heading south.
The Restful Spirit |
The Restful Spirit hands a wand to Jorah.
"Would you mind using this on me?"
CLW: 6d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1, 7, 2, 1, 7) + 6 = 27
Taking stock of the surrounding, he comes to a conclusion.
"It looks like there's only one door. Anybody up for some trap spotting?"
Dreggar |
"Well that was a nasty surprise. We best keep our eyes open. Someone or something does not want us down here."
With that, he will examine the door for nasty surprises, as well.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Thallin Quin |
Thallin moves up and attempts to assist Dreggar with the inspection of the door.

Jorah |
"Would you mind using this on me?"
"Yes, of course, friend. If you would like, I can hold on to it, should you need it in battle."
Jorah then pulls out his own wand and touches it to Ezren, healing the rest of his aching body. "We can't have our arcane expert hurting, I'm sure we will have need of you." he says with a warm smile.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Jorah will then continue his map, also drawing sketches of the statues and being sure to not the trap.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Jorah |
Jorah chuckles at the comment. "Thank you for the compliment, but despite my youthful appearance, I have been on Golarian for some time now. I am approaching my 74th birthday after all."
Herr Magt Jaeger |
Magt finds the situation rather humorous. Ha! Pathfinders not supposed to catch statues with head.
Magt takes a step back from the door and sets himself to deal with anything that may come flying out when it is opened.
bluedove |
You notice no traps on the door and proceed through it into a narrow hall that ends at another door. No traps are found here either so you open it and move into the next room.
The sickly sweet smell of rotting meat fills this perfectly square, low-ceilinged chamber. The east wall features a large bas-relief carving portraying a wide-eyed hag devouring her own hands.
As you file in, Dreggar glances toward the bas-relief and sees the hag’s eyes suddenly roll in their sockets and lock on to his eyes with an icy glare.
Map is updated! Be a bit careful with it, I had to piece it together from multiple parts.
The Restful Spirit |
The Restful Spirit eyes the room with mistrust.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
bluedove |
The Restful Spirit spots the source of the horrible rotting smell. Propped up in the room’s southwest corner, sits a bloated, wormy corpse. It is missing it's left arm and bears several horrific bite wounds on the torso and neck. It looks to be one of the tattooed, red-eyed humanoids you encountered before.
Dreggar |
Not one to turn down a good old-fashioned stare-down, Dreggar will examine the statue intently.

Jorah is able to identify a fairly powerful, but simply illusion spell on the bas-relief, but he notices a second, much more troublesome magic a moment too late. Magt steps too close to the carving and a spell effect ripples out over you all, causing most of you to feel drowsy, if only for a moment. Except for Thallin, who slumps to the floor, deeply asleep.
Magt, on the other hand is feeling something very different. A desperate, compelling hunger for flesh sweeps over him. His eyes flicker to the wormy corpse in the corner... but Thallin is so much closer... fresher... soo tempting. The tiefling lunges for the Magus, teeth bared for the exposed flesh at his throat!

Jorah Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
The Restful Spirit and Ezren have a chance to stop Magt before he attacks the helpless Thallin!
Tarondor's Ezren Pregen |
"Whoa! Wait a moment!" Ezren shouts.
Ezren tosses a tanglefoot bag at Magt.
Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
That hits Magt's touch AC, so he is entangled and must make a DC 15 Reflex save to avoid being glued to the floor.
The Restful Spirit |
His training taking over, The Restful Spirit attempts to subdue Magt.
Grapple: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
bluedove |
The Restful Sprit fails to get a grip on the tiefling but Ezren's gambit succeeds and the ravening Magt is glued to the floor. Unfortunately, he is still not in his right mind and struggles to reach the helpless Thallin.
Round 1 Initiative Order
--------------------------------------
The Restful Spirit - attempts a grapple, fails and provokes
Ezren - throws Tanglefoot bag, gluing Magt to the floor
Magt
Jorah
Thallin - unconscious
Dreggar
Magt, the resin will become brittle and cease to hold you in 5 rounds. But you can break free by making a DC 17 Strength check or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. You'll get another will save in round 2 to fight off the maddening hunger.
Magt is up and has an AOO on The Restful Spirit!
Tarondor's Ezren Pregen |
Dont forget that the tanglefoot bag does more than glue you to the floor. You're grappled. You take a -4 penalty to DEX, a-2 penalty to attack and damage and can't do anything that requires two hands.
Thallin Quin |
Thallin lays motionless, dreaming of days long past, as a small amount of drool seeps from the corner of his mouth.
bluedove |
Yes, entangled does not prevent the use of both hands, but neither condition applies a negative modifier to damage that I could find.
Initiative Order Round 1

Magt - bites The Restful Spirit for 7 damage (AOO) enters rage and tries to break free, fails

The Restful Spirit
Ezren
Magt manages to tear a sizable chunk of The Restful Spirit's arm as he tries to grab hold of him. The maddened tiefling swallows it down greedily and tries to break loose from the sticky substance entangling him and gluing him to the spot, but he is unable to break it's hold.
Everyone except Magt and Thallin are up now!
The Restful Spirit |
Recoiling from the savage bite, The Restful Spirit decides that Magt needs to be contained now.

He then steps behind Dreggar in an attempt to get in a better position.
Dreggar |
Dreggar moves around, studies Magt's movements and strikes him with the pommel of his axe.
nonlethal studied attack with flank: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 2 + 1 - 4 = 161d10 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 1 = 13
I think that hits his raged AC...
Herr Magt Jaeger |
Raging with -4 penalty to dex gives AC=14. Since Thalin isn't threatening, Restful doesn't get flanking. So the crit is not confirmed.
Dreggar, sorry not sure but I think that line is saying 16 to hit and 13 damage. If that is correct.
HP: 37 with 23 points non-lethal
Tarondor's Ezren Pregen |
"Hold him down, lads," says Ezren. "Somebody try to hold him down!"
Delay to go last before Magt.
If Magt is still dangerous on Ezren's turn, the wizard will use Hand of the Apprentice to attack him, using magic to hurl his cane.
Hand of the Apprentice and cane: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 261d6 ⇒ 5
bluedove |
You didn't need to delay, Ezren was already last before Magt.
Ezren's flying cane attack succeeds at knocking the slavering Magt unconscious.
Combat over!
Dreggar |
"When we are sure he is alright, give him a blast or two off of my wand. I feel a bit ashamed helping to knock him out like that. I guess it was for our, I mean his own good."
bluedove |
"Sorry, lad," says Ezren to Magt's still form. He kneels and tries to see what's wrong with the tiefling.
It's actually Knowledge(Arcana) for identifying a spell effect that is in place, but since it's the same bonus, I'll just swap out the skill.
Herr Magt Jaeger |
Don't worry about it. I'm just glad you kept me from doing something unsavory to an ally. I can use my own wand for healing.
wand infernal healing charge on me for 10 points and on Restful for 10 points if he will take it.
Tarondor's Ezren Pregen |
...making himself very sick in the process. Luckily we avoided the worst of that."
Ezren explains the trap to his companions and watches over Magt until it's safe to revive him.
bluedove |
Nothing much left to do in this room so I'll move us on.
Having had quite enough of Sevenfinger's traps, you take your time to look over the next door. Once certain the way is clear, you open the door to the next room. This long, high-ceilinged hall is partially flooded with murky, stagnant water, and the sound of slowly dripping water echoes ominously throughout. A massive banyan tree has breached a large section of the south wall, and the tree’s enormous invasive roots now extend several feet into the hall. Long sheets of thick moss and other detritus cling to the twisted tree roots, forming a curtain-like barrier.
