Jal Vaduva |
Jal wipes the blood from his blade, then stoops to quickly search the three goons for anything useful.
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 23
As he searches, he glances over at the cowering lizard folk. "Someone get them out of here. I don't want them getting in the way when we move on the Aspis leader."
Once his search is complete, he stands back up, moving purposefully back towards the cavernous hallway. "Let's get this thing done."
Once the team is ready to move forward, Jal will scout ahead again.

Looting the goons:
Mundane loot: three longbows and 60 arrows.
Looting the room:
The crates contain several hundred ancient objects. Unfortunately, it would take a team of experts months to determine their exact value.
Jal Vaduva |
Jal sniffs at the potions.
Perception, DC23: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27
"Moderate healing," he mutters, holding onto one and tossing the other two to team members.

Shamak tries his best to identify the items.
"LOOK +1 MITHRAL CHAIN SHIRTS!" he eventually yells.
Jal Vaduva |
Jal scowls at him. "Could you keep it quiet, Big Guy? We still have another Aspis to ambush."
Knowing that between the twin fireballs and Shamak's shouting, Aspis reinforcements could come at any time, the Varisian stalks over to the passageway to take up sentry duty.
Using the previous scouting rolls...

"These are magical daggers. Slightly more accurate and damaging then normal ones. I'll hold onto one if I'm ever forced into melee."
Eladrian |
As the others move through the dead bodies, Eladrian puts away his bow and moves towards the lizard folk and tries to communicate with them.
"It's ok.. we are here to help you! Can any of you speak common or elven?"
GM Skipper |
Aha! Someone tries to speak to the lizardfolk...
One of the fightend non-combatants steps forward to meet Eladrian.
"I talk the man-tongue. You enemy of the snakes?"
The others huddle together, not being able to understand their kinsman.
As Jal sneaks slightly ahead, he sees that the cave branches off in several directions. To the north, he can see what looks like a barracks, probably meant for the Aspis agents, judging by the bedding. To the east, the cave continues into the dank darkness.
Eladrian |
"Yes, we are their enemy. We also understand that they have enslaved you by stealing your children. We would like to help you if you will allow us to. Can you tell us where the rest of them are? What are you doing here, and what is their mission here?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Skipper |
Emboldened by Eladrian's mention of the eggs, the lizardfolk continues.
"The book lady has eggs in the rainbow room. Is taboo for tribe to enter. She has copy men," he makes a gesture as to ward off some evil, "they're in the old hatchery. Be careful, they have skill with bows."
Glancing around at the tightly packed crates in the room, he shrugs.
"Not know where wood bags go, but they're full of treasure. The snakes take full ones four times between new moons. Snakes not tell much."
Go ahead and give a Diplomacy roll.
Eladrian |
Sorry about that..
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
"Thank you for the warning. Please, guard these items for us. If any of it belongs to your people, you are welcome to have it back.. we are not thieves. Otherwise, we will return with your eggs when we deal with the "Snakes"."
Do we want them to come with us?? Or would that be asking too much?
Edit: Oh christ.. what a time for a 1! I hope they dont kill us..
Myrdon Gharthrin |
Myrdon, seeing Eladrian stumbling over his words, steps in despite the unfortunate experience earlier. "The snakes are our sworn enemies and we would do our utmost to free your people, and most importantly, your eggs, from their evil hands. I had my entire tribe lost to me. I swear I would do what I can to prevent that from happening to your people. Whatever assistance you can render would be most appreciated."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Shamak |
Shamak scratches his head. "YEAH WELL MAYBE SHE HIDES BENEATH MULTIPLE IMAGES OF HERSELF. I'VE SEEN THAT BEFORE. AND I YELL ID I WANT TO YELL, HALF-POINTY-EARS!" he says to Jal.
Jal Vaduva |
Jal scowls at Shamak’s words, ”Loud and chronically stupid … I’ll bet the ladies love that combination, Big Guy.”
He shifts back to waiting for the lizard-man’s response to his questions.
For the record, my character is being an ass-hat; I'm not personally trying to be one. If his name-calling is overly annoying, just let me know and I'll tone it down. :)
Shamak |
Haha no probs, Jal ;)
Shamak decides to ignore the half-elf. "FINE! NO MORE BUFF FOR YOU THEN!" of course, it's only RP
Eladrian |
Eladrian, ever the diplomat, casts a stern glance over Jal and Shamak and whispers at them "You, be nice.. and You, please don't do that.. we need to work together!!"
LOL
With that, Eladrian bows to the lizardmen and moves back into the cavern, following the left wall.
Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
Myrdon Gharthrin |
Myrdon merely chuckles and rather loudly at that. "Do boys ever really grow up?" Strangely, he says this with a rather haunted look in his eyes.
GM Skipper |
Moving along...
The lizardfolk's directions lead you further into the cave system. You pass the barracks, and a cave from where you can hear hushed and frightened conversations in Draconic. Keeping to the right, you find a small waterfall that drums over several protruding stones before crashing into a large pool. A strange, pulsating light emanating from a nearby cave mouth fill this pool with a vivid and intense rainbow of colors. Torn nets litter the water. Parts of the netting are still attached to the shore, but most have been torn off, and now circle the pool in the current created by the waterfall.
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Flanking the waterfall are two identical human men, one of which looks up as you round the corner and takes a shot at Jal.

He'll attack with his talons first, hoping to grab the guy, so that the subsequent attacks are easier to hit if he is grappled. I'm new to this grappling business, so I understand Aegis would similarly gain the grappled condition? So subsequently rounds he can use standard action to try to maintain grapple and do one talon damage, or he can release him as a free action and full attack? Did I get that right?
GM Skipper |
Will, blue: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Myrdon attempts to help out Eladrian, but the twin resists his spell. Aegis hits with a talon and a bite, but the other twin manages to wriggle free of his grasp.
You're more or less correct about the whole grapple thing, though Aegis will not have an easier time attacking a foe he is grappling, as he also takes a -2 penalty to attack, but that is counteracted by the target's -2 penalty to AC.
