This feels like the story about the practical joking friendly enemies. One of them has a long winding driveway and as he pulls out one day there's a box in the middle of the driveway. He gets out of the car and pulls it aside, noticing as he does so that it's empty. He gets back in the car and starts again. Rounding the first turn he sees another box. Out of the car, move the box , and it's empty. Round the next turn and there's another box. Again empty. Round the last turn there's a final box and he hits the accelerator to mow the box down.

This box is full of scrap metal.

Some day we're going to find the scrap metal.

Luke, was "senescent" the word you wanted? Dictionary defines senescence as growing old. It could make sense if the skeleton's bones took on an aged mouldering appearance.

Just curiosity, not criticism.
