Mrachni Swordfollower
|
The burly orc gestures vaguely behind him as he moves forward and draws his sword. "Vonran Vilks! Stand down!" he exclaims loudly.
Mrachni Swordfollower
|
"You have attacked those who came to help you," replies the orc. "Your friends care for you, Vonran Vilks. We have brought you... the cure, we hope, to your affliction."
Mohok
|
Mohok pulls the wolfsbane from a belt pouch, saying, "Like he says, Vilks, we want to help you. Eat this, and it might bring you back to who you were" Holding his mace low, he takes a step towards Vilks and holds out the powerful plant.

Vilks's feral side begins to quickly assert itself.
“The wolf is a cure! My decades of skill and untold experience rot in my withered husk. But now the moon brings me strength and vitality like I haven’t felt in thirty years! I’m strong enough now to do what I always should have done, rather than bowing my head to the Decemvirate. Now, I’m the alpha.”

"Your wolf kills, Vonran Vilks. It kills in cold blood, with no trial or determination of guilt... outside the law. Is that right or just?"

Any chance of reasoning with him?

Kyra gives up looking for her companions and tries to find her own way out of the overgrown garden.

And then attempts to leap across the rotted bridge.

After swimming back to shore she tries again!

Mohok

As Mrachni and Vilks talk and Kyra struggles to catch up, Mohok takes a step back and draws his healing wand, repairing some of the damage caused by the claws and teeth before putting it away. That should use the three rounds Kyra took moving forward one chase square.

Feeling a good deal better, he says, "I guess you'll eat the stuff later..." He steps forward and brings his mace crashing down on Vilks, trying not to kill the man.

Mohok

Mohok ties him up and stuffs wolfsbane in him! Or does it in a more careful fashion once Kyra catches up to him and suggests a more thoughtful approach.
Mrachni Swordfollower

Mrachni nods once in satisfaction, having been preparing to strike as well. "The wolf within him must die... it is justice."

Mohok feeds the bound werewolf the curative, and still toxic herb, but there's no effect at first. After feeding him a second dose Vilks begins to suffer violent convulsions but the coarse dark fur covering his form begins falling out in clumps. His body shrivels and writhes until eventually a withered old man is revealed.
Mohok
|
Mohok is pleased and relieved that the wolfsbane seems to have cured Vilks, rather than killing him.
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger," he rumbles. "Though I'll admit you look weaker than you did a moment ago."
Mrachni Swordfollower
|
"Weakness comes from within," replies the burly, scarred orc. "And your regrets are yours to release when you are ready."
| DM Feral |
I suppose I should wrap this up!
The next day Vilks is a bit more talkative but still fairly withdrawn and quiet, clearly ashamed of his actions. Despite his advanced age, he proves capable enough to care for himself and quickly packs what few belongings he has, explaining that he plans to resume his exile and head for Varisia in hopes that the hustle and bustle of Korvosa will be enough to distract him for his final years.
Marcos Farabellus is happy to hear about the party’s success and impressed that they managed to do so without slaying the retired Pathfinder. He takes a cursory glance at whatever reports are offered to him but seems eager to consider the situation resolved. By putting an end to the Midnight Mauler’s threat, not only has the party saved the Pathfinder Society from an awkward situation that might have eventually led to the entire Society’s expulsion from Ustalav but they’ve saved a once great man’s soul.
I hope everyone had fun.
