--- CHAPTER II: HARROW ---

Remember to completely heal your PC and recover all resources expended.

A few days later the group received another missive from Dr. Quolorum:

Dr. Quolorum wrote:

My esteemed assistants,

I’m told there is a small village called Dunhob only a few miles from Illirigarde Manor that could have useful information. No doubt the villagers have many stories about the phenomena affecting the region. Additionally, before her disappearance Lady Illirigarde visited the locals occasionally to perform harrow readings and seances. Perhaps we could learn more about her research and disappearance as well. My contacts informed me the villagers of Dunhob are a particularly close-lipped and superstitious lot, so diplomatic finesse may be necessary.

There are also legends of a haunted tavern called The Lucky Lantern in Dunhob that I would like you to investigate. Your mission is to see what secrets the tavern may hold and interview one or two of the local villagers. Happy adventuring!

- Dr. Quolorum

You notice two things immediately upon arrival in Dunhob. First, a wrought iron horseshoe is nailed to nearly every door in the village. Second, a large crowd has begun to gather at your arrival. The murmuring of the villagers is broken by the loud, raspy yells of an old lady.

Some time later, standing in the odd village and watching the old woman throw shoes at them the thought struck him. Oh yes! They are all quite insane!

Smiling politely and shooting Tarantio a look to not try an eat her, Dragos sweeps his arms to address the crowd and speaks quite clearly.

Roy calmly watches the events unfolding, as Dragos finishes speaking he moves forward and picks up the horseshoe; holding it in his hand for a couple of moments before transferring it to his other hand and holding up his empty palm towards the crowd of people

"As you can see good folk no evil lies within me"

One of the townsfolk, a middle-aged man carefully touches the old woman on the upper arm.

"Now, Maricella I know we ain't had visitors in a good while, but you don't have to be throwin' shoes at everything that wanders into town."

"Now what can we do for you fine folks?"

Thanks for inferring my 5' move like that. I'm still learning the basics :)

Krudenk likes the sound of a haunted inn. The Lucky Lantern sounds like the kind of adventure his parents had told him about. So he excitedly cuts in, "Show us the way to your inn please. Is it true that it's haunted?"

Dragos looks gratifyingly at 'Roy''s interference with the crazed old woman and then alarmed at Krudenk's sudden outburst hoping it wouldn't ruin their chance with the yokels. Smiling again he steps forwards and puts his hand on Krudenk's shoulder.

"Ah yes, my friend means to say that we have been tasked with investigating some of the 'stranger' happenings across Versex of late, our organisation has identified the Lucky Lantern as a possible place of Occult activity. Pray tell, what happened here?"

Lazing on the Undertaker's shoulder, Tarantio sweeps a gaze over the gathered villagers, wary of a pitchfork led uprising. The Drake turns it's small head to DRagos and hisses out in Draconic.

Draconic:
"This place is strange partner, these peopl are backwards."

"Well, as I remember it, Lady Illirigarde performed a private reading for poor Veny, and it killed him. She said something about how her harrow cards touched the mind of a dreaming evil. She left all her magic instruments on the table and left Dunhob, promising to return when she learned how to drive out the spirits. But she never did come back.

I can take you to the tarvern, but I don't recommend it. A few years back an adventurer named Wulfer went into the tavern and never came out."

Dragos smiles in thanks to the woman and gestures to his companions, looking particularly hardy and well-armed. Indicating that she should lead the way, Dragos speaks loudly enough for rowd to hear.

"My lady, we are fast becoming experts in dealing with the strange, do not fear for us, if there is a mystery to be solved in your Tavern, we shall be the ones to solve it!"
