Yaiho smiles and picks up a twig. "Yaiho break Anwald Tullivor if not call off dogs." He snaps the twig in half.
| GM ShieldBug |
Ulisha smiles appreciatively at Yaiho "As much as I'd love to see that no good aristocrat squirm, Anwald is a stubborn man and I don't think scaring him will do the trick. He's just as like to hold the grudge come for me again when you and your friends aren't around anymore." She shakes her head, "No, I think we need try a different tack with that man..."

Guess we have to kill him, his family, and the whole assassin's guild.
Forrest is puzzled at this issue. Someone we can't intimidate. That's new. After a moment, he speaks up. " if we told him of how we... I mean you... avenged his (nephew?) by killing a Sarvio, perhaps he would calm. "
Sinaryn
|
"Tullivor? You are right, Forrest, the one whose family we avenged by dealing with the pretty lady from their rivals! Seems like a good enough reason to call off the dogs." Sin muses aloud remembering the Tullivor name.
| GM ShieldBug |
Ulisha's eyes go wide, "I thought you said you just knocked Rhiannon Sarvio out..." She says, a little surprised, "That is, right before you stole an expensive tapestry from the Tullivor's mausoleum. If he's this bent out of shape over a stupid cup, I hate to think what he'll do if he thought I stole that as well." She thinks for a second, pouring out some more coffee for everyone, "Hmm, but if you could spin it in someway that makes me look good, it might work! I don't think I want to be on the hook for a murder though..."

Brock frowns at the prospect thar this long quest is not, in fact, yet over.
We don't owe this woman anything more, why are we taking on more work for our already earned reward. But, of course, these goody two shoes just jump right in with offering free service yet again
"While the prospect of tricking, conning or lying always amuses me, why don't we just draw him into a fight and end the threat for good and all? We can kill off his assassins as an added bonus."
| GM ShieldBug |
Ulisha raises an eyebrow, "You plan on taking on a whole guild of assassins? You seem quite impressive, but I'm willing to bet that is a little beyond your abilities." She shrugs, "I don't know, maybe I should just sell you Silverhex and be done with it! You must have made a pretty penny from all those leads I gave you, maybe that'll be enough after all..." She takes a large swig of coffee and thoughtfully says, "I could try moving to Osirion for a few years? Plenty of artefacts to find and study there! Maybe I could change my name or fake my death somehow to throw the assassins off my scent..."
"How about this for a deal? You pay Anwald a visit and see if you can persuade him cancel the contract on my head somehow and, as I said, if you succeed, I give you Silverhex for free! You get to really impress your superiors with a large sum of money, the location of an important dig site, and Silverhex. If you can't get him to drop his stupid feud, you sell those artefact you found, come back here with a big sack of gold, and swap it for Silverhex. You still impress your superiors a little, and at least I'd know that nothing could have been done to appease Anwald..."
Sinaryn
|
"A deal where we get even more treasure? Can't top that unless it comes with a harem of beautiful companions." Sin smirks and shakes the half-orcs hand.
This shouldn't be hard. At worse we give back that tapestry get the silverhex and the rest of the artefacts. What a steal!
Brock Swiftread
|
Yeah, Brock thinks he can take on the guild and win. Those (probably apprentices) were weak. Imagine the Glory!
Brock grunts at Ulisha's cowardly response. "You have clearly never seen Yaiho in action. Still.."
"Talkin don't cost much, we can go have a chat with this man and see if we can't get him convinced to drop it. Perhaps he will realize throwing more good coin after bad is a fools choice."
Forrest Glavo
|
Forrest turns to Brock. " The glory of returning with Silverhex and these other artifacts would be enormous. We must do everything we can to persuade this noble to call off the assassins. "
Looking back at the half-orc, he smiles. "You might be on to something. We could claim that you took the tapestry to protect it from more of his enemies and return it. Better most of the treasure than half, right? "
Umbrutani Shadnani
|
"That appears to be a workable plan. Retaining the other treasure would be good. Who knows what else we can discover about them in the Society?" Then quietly to himself, And much as I do not really like how this Ulisha has been operating, getting them to end the feud would lead to less bloodshed eventually. Provided we don't into some more. The rest of you might wonder why Umbru suddenly sighs to himself.
| GM ShieldBug |
Ulisha shakes Sinaryn's hand, smiling broadly, "I think you'll find that the beautiful companions will come quite soon after the gold and the glory." She says, laughing at her own joke, "Hearing Yaiho in action was quite enough for me, Brock, but this other plan sounds very promising to me. The best lies have a grain of truth to them after all, and you did stop someone else from stealing the tapestry." She continues shaking everyone's hands, "Thank you! Thank you, all!"
By the time she has thanked everyone properly, and brewed a fresh cup of coffee to give Danicka now that she has finished burying the bodies, it's getting quite late and Ulisha suggests that you should get going, "I look forward to hearing the good news! And when this is all over, you'll have to remind me to tell you all about the history of Silverhex. It's a grand tale about the druids of millennia ago! I wish I had time to tell it to you now, but you know, my life hangs in the balance and all that..."
After an automatic success for Brock to gather information.
You arrive back at Daggermark in the late evening, at an hour when most respectable people are in their homes, settling down for the night. Fortunately, the sorts of people Brock likes to hang out with are still wide awake, and after chatting to a few of his favourite questionable characters, it doesn't take long for him to find Anwald Tullivor. Apparently Anwald has been making a mournful boor of himself over the last week. Frequenting one tavern in particular and drunkenly telling anyone who will listen about the woman who ruined everything for his 'fine and noble' family, and how she'll get her comeuppance now the the Red Revolution is involved.
You then head off to the tavern in question, hoping that Anwald might still be around. You have barely crossed the threshold when you hear the commotion, "Yeah, well fie on the stupid scholar and her precious Silverhex. The Vessels Between’ll shut that wench up for good!" A drunken voice practically shouts out from in front of the bar at a particularly disinterested looking bartender. The source of the voice is an old man in fancy, yet dishevelled clothes who is currently taking a large swig from his mug of ale. It doesn't look like he has shaved for a few days, and the stalls around him are noticeably empty, despite how busy the tavern is.
It looks like you found your man. :)

"Sorry to bring you bad news, but your assassins wont be coming back, and certainly didn't kill their target."
Brock says as he takes a seat across the table from the drunken noble. "In fact, they were pitifully easy to kill. I hope you didn't spend a fortune on them."
Looking around as his companions gather, he continues: "Normally, this is where I threaten to kill you if you don't call off the dogs, but today is your lucky day." with a charming smile, "we are here to negotiate. We would like to find an amicable way for us to reach an understanding where you cancel the contract on Ulisha. So, what will it take to end this without further bloodshed?"

"Wha... Who are you!?" Anwald says, sounding confused as you gather around him. He looks Brock up and down as he lays out the facts, but just laughs, "Ha! The jokes on you son. It's the Red Revolution who hired the Vessels Between, not me." He leans in closer, the stink of his breath is almost enough to intoxicate those around him, and he whispers conspiratorially, "I sent a man to Galt to tell them all about the stuff that woman had been recovering for us. She's been declared an enemy of the Red Revolution now and I'm not convincing them otherwise. Not without restitution for the cup that rightfully belongs in Tullivor hands!" He sits up properly again, belches, and starts ranting about Ulisha.
"Every time she recovered one of our heirlooms from Galt, the wench slunk off to the Sarvios and did the same for them! The sheer nerve... As if that weren't bad enough, when we hired her to steal back the cup those damned Sarvios stole from my great great grea- How many greats was that?" He looks bleary eyed at his fingers, but gives up counting almost immediately, "Well the treacherous woman took it for herself! Can you believe it? After all that we did to raise her out of... Out of the gutter, and giving her good respectable work for a noble family like ours." He continues, slurring his words heavily.
"Well that selfish act brought nothing but bad luck on my family! First Laban Tullivor, one of the best men I ever knew by the way... Laben choked on an under-cooked fowl and up and died, then his youngest son was murdered right in front of his resting place, and by a Sarvio no less! As if that weren't bad enough, someone made off with our family tapestry on the same night. No, no, that stupid scholar must pay for what she did to us..." He takes another chug of his ale and belches once more.

He stands next to Danicka and puts on his nicest face. " My friend, I must share a secret with you. " He puts some dance slippers on the bar. "I am a dancer. Don't tell the half-orc. He'd never let it go. " He points to Yaiho, who is sitting right next to him. "There is a dance, famous across the land. In this dance, a terrible feud is fought across two noble families. Long story short, they die, their friends die, and love dies. End the bloodshed. Let this scholar go. "

Anwald blinks at the pistol and looks up at Sinaryn, "Wha... You... That's why..." His muddled brain slowly connects the dots, "Do you have our tapestry!?" He starts to turn red and looks ready to explode at Sinaryn, but the simplicity and sincerity of Danicka's statement catches Anwald off guard, and he turns to look at the nervous wizard, his eyes starting to well up, "But, but she stole from a Tullivor... How is it right to let her go?" He asks, genuinely hoping she has an answer. After Forrest speaks up, Anwald starts to really blubber, "You're right! Tullivors and Sarvios are dropping like flies, and I just want it to stop now." Sniff, "I only wanted to scare the woman! Make her sorry for crossing us like she did..." He leans in uncomfortably close to Forrest, and grabs his shoulders, breathing his heady breath all over the poor halfling, "I'll get my man to call them off. Tell them it was all a mistake, and that the wench is no enemy of theirs..." He wipes his nose on his sleeve and pats Forrest on the head, "You're a wise man, you are... But, wait, didn't you say something about the tapestry?"
Can I hear the sounds of Aid Another rolls coming from Umbru and Yaiho? An extra drink might be all it'll take to finalise this deal with all your treasure intact *hint* *hint*. Note that a failed aid another diplomacy roll doesn't effect the attitude of NPCs. ;)
Sorry to drag this out, but it's for a boon and the only way to get it is to pay restitution (the tapestry, which'll come off your gold earned on your chronicle sheets,) or beat this check.

"It is good that you are willing to let this go," Umbru finally speaks up in his usual soft rasping voice. "There is a tien saying, 恩恩相报何时了. Debt and vengeance goes back and forth - when will it end? Someone must be the bigger man and end of the cycle." He smiles serenely at Anwald.
At the man's insistence, he continues with his deadpan face. "And you must be mistaken. I am sorry for your loss, but indeed none of us mentioned anything about a tapestry." He glances over rather pointedly at the drinks on the table, but does not comment further.
diplomacy, aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Not sure if I should roll a bluff instead. :) But the bonus is +5, so it is still a aid success. Besides, it's not a lie. None of us mentioned the tapestry. :)
Danicka Raburnus

"The right thing isn't always easy... Sometimes we need to be a better person than those who wrong us. We need to rise above the squabbling, and vengeance. You can do that. You can prove yourself better than Ulisha and the Sarvios, and save your family at the same time."
As Forrest and Umbru add their wisdom to the conversation, she smiles at them fondly, grateful for their aid.
As the man starts to blubber and cry, Danicka pats him on the shoulder, offering him comfort.
| GM ShieldBug |
Not a word of a lie, so yep that'll work. :)
Anwald seems to cheer a little, like the weight of the world has been lifted from his shoulders, "You're right, I am the bigger man. Ha ha! I can't wait to rub that in the noses of those Sarvios..." He raises his mug in the air and shouts so that the whole tavern can hear, "I, Anwald Tullivor, am the biggest of men, and I will end this feud between the noble Tullivors, the stinking Sarvios, and the wench!" He chugs down the lot and puts an arm around Umbrutani, "Shame you didn't stop those damned thieves, but you people did catch Northiseses killer, and may have even saved my soul tonight. Thank you." He turns to Danicka with what he believes to be a winning smile, and says, "In fact, I'm so grateful for all that you have done, and especially for your comfort, my dear girl, that I'll let you have the honour of buying me another drink!"
Woop woop! That just about wraps things up. Feel free to stay here a bit or return to Ulisha with the good news, and I'll start working on your sheets. :)

"Well, I hope this us enough..." she mutters nervously, handing a rather full coin purse to the bartender. Unknown to Danicka, she's just handed over enough coin to get everyone in the bar good and sloshed, never mind her companions.
She scurries around, passing out a glass of wine to Anwald, a cup of tea to Yaiho, and a hearty pint to everyone else. She holds a cup of tea in her own hands, but Brock's cajoling eventually causes Danicka to blush a deep red and accept a pint.
"Oh, dear! It's so BIG!" she exclaims nervously. "Is it supposed to be that big?"
Under everyone's eyes she begrudgingly takes a sip. Her nose scrunches up in distaste. "It tastes so bad! Why do people drink this?"
Clearly she's never had a drink before...
Danicka is bright red and louder than normal before she's even half done her drink.
"I feel funny." she announces. "Am I supposed to feel so light and... Happy?" she asks Brock (and whoever else is nearby).
Having lost much of her inhibitions, Danicka tells Sinaryn. "You're really pretty. And brave. And bold. How'd you get to be so perfect?" then she mutters into her cup, "I wish I was perfect!"
To Brock she says, "You, are a bad man, Mr. Swiftread! So bad. Like... Naughty! You need to be arrested, or fined or... Get a spanking or something! I haven't decided yet! And you're altogether too handsome! It's not allowed. You should quit it! It might give girls the wrong impression."
To Forrest she says, "You're not bad! Well, you were that one time... But since that time! You've been... Nice. You're a nice fellow Forrest!" she pats him on the shoulder happily. "I like you." She leans her head on his shoulder and uses it as a pillow.
"Yaiho? Why'd you have to eat that guy? One minute you make me feel all safe... And the next minute your tearing people's faces off with those teeth you just smiled with! You like... Confuse me! Should I be afraid of you? Or should I NOT? You gotta tell me!" After a moment she adds, "You should smile more. I like it when you smile.
"And you, Umbru! I like you! You never scare me. You're a good person... Except for your explosions! Those scare me... But, I guess.... What doesn't, right?"
By the time she's finished her drink she's completely smashed.
"I love this song! We should... I should... We should DANCE! I'm usually too afraid, but I'm NOT! Come on!"
Danicka drags everyone she can up to dance, including Forrest, Brock, and Yaiho. If Sins not playing cards she tells her to come too, and if Umbrus around she invites him, too. And the nobleman. And the waiter. And those two random guys over there. And that old lady... Everybody!

Despite himself, Brock managed to have a truly entertaining evening. Between heavy drinking, games of chance, games of skill, games of drinking and the dancing, oh the dancing.
While his agile build made him an excellent natural dancer, he never possessed the whimsical happiness or carefree frivolity that generally pulls folks to dance. He also didn't much care for music, other than bawdy drinking songs.
After managing to help entice the mousey wizard into a few drinks he managed a constant source of entertainment for the entire evening; even if it did involve a tounge lashing from the drunken wizardess.

You have spent most of the last two months, seemingly just travelling, fighting, or waiting around for people, so now that you finally have the chance to let your hair down, you do so with style. Plenty of drinks are shared and everybody joins in on the festivities, even Umbru partakes in a sip of wine, and you teach the people of Daggermark how to really party.
After a night of awesome dancing and drunken proclamations of love and handsomeness, some of you feel a little worse for wear the next morning. You do, however, have one more task to do before you have finally finished this job, and you head out towards Ulisha's not-so-secret hiding place. Ulisha actually looks worse than some of you feel, she obviously didn't get any sleep the night before, but she flashes you a hopeful smile as you approach. However, on seeing how miserable some of you look thanks to your extraordinary hangovers, her face drops, "That bad huh? I knew it! That insufferable man will probably hold on to his stupid grudge over a stupid cup 'till he pops his absurdly fancy clogs..."
Once she is brought up to speed, Ulisha expresses genuine joy and happily gives you Silverhex as a gift, "You really saved my bacon there! Thank you so much. Did I tell you about how I found this and what it was used for all those years ago? The Druids back then had all sorts of rituals you see..." She then proceeds to happily talk your ears off, instructing you about the history of Silverhex and the River Kingdoms in general as she packs up her camp.

Epilogue
Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin holds Silverhex in his hands as he regards the group of Pathfinders now standing in his office, "We send you to the River Kingdoms for the sole reason of establishing a price for this artefact, and not only do you convince Ulisha to hand it over for free, you return with all this." He waves his hand over his desk indicating the silver bracelet of frizzy hair that Danicka has been wearing since they found it, and the gloomy skull lantern the fae wanted so much. "You uncovered a future dig site, free a town from the grips of a cult, and caught a murderer. Although, for the life of me, I have no idea what possessed you to take that tapestry with you." He looks at tapestry rolled up and leaning against the back wall, and then back at you sternly, "Usually we like the owners of such things to be dead for quite a bit longer before we start retrieving their stuff."
"It may have taken you a little too long, but well done! Just make sure you don't make a habit of overreaching. I don't want to have to send in another team to pull you out of the fire just because you can't keep your ambitions in check. However, since you are obviously looking for more interesting things to do than act as negotiators, I'm sending you off to Aspenthar where Lady Gloriana Morilla awaits your arrival. Head over to the docks and catch the first ship to Thuvia." Ambrus points at Umbrutani, "Except for you. Paracountess Zarta Dralneen is looking for an Alchemist for some kind of pet project of hers. Don't ask me what it is, just head over to her office and tell her that I sent you and that we are now even. That is all!"
Thank you again, everyone, for a great game!

"Hmmm..." Danicka replies to Yaiho. "That's nice."
Danicka does her best to learn Forrest's jig, but proves more than a little uncoordinated and off-balance. Still, she has a ball and claps loudly for Forrrest.
"You're amazing!" she tells him drunkenly.
But it's Yaiho's dance that does her in. Three spins into his traditional dance and she proclaims, "Whoah! I'm dizzy!" and has to hang onto Brock for support. She laughs loudly, and watches Yaiho's dance, clapping all the while. As he starts doing hand stands and kicking his legs around, her eyes widen and she looks more than a little surprised.
"You're amazing!" she also tells him drunkenly.
By the end of the night Danicka hits on everyone constantly--Yaiho, Forrest, Brock, Umbru, and even complete strangers. If none of them fall for Danicka's amazing seduction techniques she complains:
"No one wants me! How come no one wants me?" Then she sighs loudly and mutters. "That's nothing new..."
She instead hits on strangers in the bar until someone flirts back. She attempts to go home with whoever that is, unless one of her friends saves her from herself.
Either way she gets horribly sick later and passes out. She wakes up filthy with a killer hang-over. Her hair is matted, her clothes have vomit on them, her beloved broom is soiled, she can't find half her clothes, and someone's thrown up in one of her shoes. She has a feeling it was her...
She has a hell of a time preparing her spells that morning, and only manages to get prestidigitation prepared before giving up. Still, she puts the spell to good use, and cleans herself up. Unfortunately it does nothing for her hangover. Danicka appears downstairs grumpy, shielding her eyes from the light, and holding her head in pain.
"I'm never drinking with you again." she tells Brock.
"This is HORRIBLE! Why do people do this to themselves?!" she complains on the trip. She's too nauseous to help break the news to Ulisha, and instead sits in silence, leaving twice to go throw up behind some bushes.
When she's less ill she asks Forrest, "Did I do anything... embarrassing last night?" She's clearly worried she did.
---
On the trip home she's moody, but less afraid of all of you. It's actually a pleasant journey. When Absalom is finally in sight she sighs happily. "We've been gone so LONG! I'm sure everyone will be happy to see us!" after a moment she thinks and realizes it's unlikely anyone misses her. She pouts for a moment, then asks each of her companions if they have family or friends waiting for their return.
---
Danicka beams happily at Venture Captain Valsin's praise, blushing brightly. "T-t-thank you, sir!"
"Another mission already?" she asks in surprise. "Oh, my! That's lovely! I've never been to Thuvia before."
Realizing Umbru won't be joining them, she looks sad. After the meeting she gives Umbru a handshake. "It was good to meet you, Umrbu. I'll... I'll miss you." She gives him a big hug goodbye and cries over it, making quite a scene. Then she pulls back, wipes her eyes and sniffles. "Bye."

Danicka follows her crazy companions off to the docks, eyeing the ships around, wondering how she'll know which ones might be going to Thuvia...

"I'm never drinking with you again." she tells Brock.
Brock sits in the common room, shockingly chipper after such a long night, but nights like last night were hardly rare in his life, and dealing with hangovers was somewhat of a hobbie of his.
In front of him is a mug of something hot, an empty glass and a full glass.
When Danicka stumbles down the stairs he gives her his charming smile and hands her the full glass. "A little concoction to help with the hangover, be sure to drink it in one gulp or, trust me, you won't finish it."
Inside is a vile mixture of raw egg, rum and various herbs and unidentified foul smelling liquids. The empty cup on the table contains residue of a similar drink, hinting that Brock has already drank his poison for the morning.
Perhaps it was the dancing, perhaps it was the bracer making your hair frizzed out like a crazy witch. The world mau never know why you weren't breaking all the hearts in the tavern

She takes the vile drink in hand, then gags and covers her mouth before even bringing it close to her lips. "Oh... I'm going to be sick..."
Eventually she works up the courage to drink this strange medicinal concoction. She drinks only half of it before coughing and gagging all over the place. She passes the rest of the cup of nasty back to Brock.
She grumbles, and curls herself up in a ball in her seat, clutching her broom tightly in her arms, and taking deep breaths in an effort not to throw up.
What a catch, right? Must be all those scary friends she has...
