Umbrutani Shadnani

Umbru takes no pleasure in the team taking down one of the spiders, for another threat is still present. He moves forward again coming within range of the other spider, then quickly tossing another of his bombs straight up towards it.
bomb vs yellow touch AC, PBS: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 1 = 22 fire dmg: 1d6 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11

Sounds like the start of a wonderful tradition, Brock :)
The spider screeches and turns its attention to Danicka, one fang now hanging uselessly from its head as the acid does its work. Before it has a chance to reply with a viscous attack of its own, Umbrutani's bomb once again hits its mark and the spider falls to the ground as a smoking mess of charred legs.
COMBAT OVER!!!
Everyone is unscratched, but Brock might need a little help with all the webbing.
The forest is quiet once again, with both spiders all kinds of dead and an unguarded globe of webbing ripe for the taking.
If you want to attempt to harvest the silk glands, you must make a Heal or a Survival check. You get a +2 to the check because Umbru knows exactly where the glands are, but you can only attempt it once for each spider and only one other person can assist, failure means the gland is ruined in the process.
Danicka Raburnus
|
Danicka also passed her check to know where the glands are.
Danicka flinches at the heat from Umbrutani's bombs. She pulls her glasses off, and wipes the soot and steam off of them. She puts them back on and looks around.
All clear...
She lets out a sigh of relief.
Gathering her courage, and clutching her stomach at the smell, Danicka wanders over to the nearest spider, and offers guidance to whoever is kneeling over it. "The glands are right there," she adds helpfully. "No, over a bit... yes! There."
Aid: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 2 = 15
Danicka aids whoever is attempting to cut out the silk gland on one of the spiders. She leaves the other checks to those of us better suited.
Brock Swiftread
|
Brock growls as he manages to dig his dagger out and cut himself free if the sticky webbing that the spider so rudely sprayed him with.
Getting clear he manages to avoid drawing his sword and hacking the spider apart is pure spite... barely.
"Well, that was fun. I cannot help with the glands but", looking up at the webbing in the tree, "I might be able to help get that down. Anyone have a rope?"
Yaiho Crasher
|
The smell from the charged spiders makes drool drip from Yaiho mouth. He moves over to the spider Danicka is at and pulls one of the spider's legs off and starts to eat it. "Nice and charred."
Yaiho then looks down at the spider and with Danicka's help he begins to extract the silk gland, taking his time and being careful.

Danicka pats Yaiho on the shoulder and mutters, "G-g-g-good job."
Then she puts a hand over her mouth and scurries away from the spider corpses, looking like she might be ill.
Forrest Glavo
|
Forrest pats his rapier sadly. "Next time, next time. " Looking at Brock, he nods. "Well, I'm no good at hacking up carcasses either. The rapier is good for poking holes, not cutting out glands! Mary! Come here, girl! It's safe now! "
His donkey walks up from where she was hiding and he grabs 50 feet of rope from her saddlebags. Together with Brock, they toss the rope up and fetch down the spider globe.
Danicka Raburnus
|
As Brock and Forrest work on getting the spider globe down, Danicka calms herself.
Oh, how embarrassing! Get it together! You fought monkey demons, for goodness sakes! You can handle dead spiders.
Face pale and sickly looking, Danicka wanders over to the next spider, and gets ready to aid someone with harvesting the second silk gland.
Aid: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 2 = 17
| GM ShieldBug |
I thought you had, Danicka, but I must have missed it when I looked back.
With a steady hand, a little patience, and Danicka's guidance, Yaiho manages to harvest the silk gland without damaging it. The squishy goo covered ball is about the size of a Yaiho's fist, and he shows it off as Danicka scurries away. After she composes herself and returns to the scene, the second gland is removed just as easily.
Meanwhile, Brock and Forrest work together to retrieve the globe of webbing, and with the aid of the rope, they have it down in no time. The globe turns out to be an egg sack, and while the eggs are worthless, the webbing is covered in fresh, incredibly sticky, adhesive.
You only really need one gland and the egg sack, so I'll assume the second was a success and move us on... Onwards to Daggermark!
You retrace your steps out of the forest and, after another night camping, return to Daggermark by mid-morning the next day. The city is alive with activity at this time of day, with stall holders calling their wares, mule driven carts carrying the morning's harvest, and children playing in the streets. With the whole of the day ahead of you, you set about finding a buyer for your hard earned prizes.
Now it's time to sell your newly collected spider stuff. Do you wish to sell to Johannes Vox, or do you take note of Ulisha's misgivings (as Forrest did when he first read the journal) and look for another buyer? If you decide to look for another buyer, you can open all spoilers with a DC equal to or less than your check result.

Still picking bits of webbing from his hair and clothing Brock breathes a sigh of relief as they approach the outskirts of Daggermark. He felt much more at home in a city full of theives and assassins than a forest full of spiders and who knew what else.
Turning to his companions, "I think we might be best served to shop about, get the best price for this webbing. Might as well take advantage of having a high demand product. I may have a line on another buyer."
Looking around, "What say you all?"
So Close!
Danicka Raburnus
|
Spending the night out in the wilds listening to the howls and calls of- of- who knows what!--when she was trying to sleep left Danicka tired and sore. The sight of the dangerous city of Daggermark did little to brighten her spirits. She walked through the city nervous, jumpy and on edge.
Danicka startles as Brock breaks the silence. She blushes in embarrassment.
Get it together! Be brave. No assassins are going to come for you...
"Of course, Brock," she replies bravely (or at least without stuttering). She meets his gaze."I trust your judgement. Lead the way."
Yaiho Crasher
|
Yaiho enjoys the trip back to the city and when Brock goes around obtaining information, Yaiho steps forward and tries to assist in getting information with his tall stature.
His common phrase, "We spider silk. You know who buy?" Unfortunately his tactics are intimidating then diplomatic.
Not sure if this will work as an Aid Another for Brock's Diplomacy check.
Intimidate (Aid): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
| GM ShieldBug |
I'm afraid not, but it's certainly not a bad idea if someone did try with an Aid Another with diplomacy. ;)
As the day goes on, rumours start circulating about a new gang in Daggermark. Apparently some Spider Silk Syndicate thugs are spreading the word that they're here and available for hire to the right clients.
Danicka Raburnus
|
When she finally spots one of the thugs, Danicka asks Brock nervously, "Are you s-s-s-sure we should meet with them..?"
Sinaryn
|
"Gave those spiders hell, Umbra. Even left some pieces for Yaiho to have a snack!' laughs clapping the small Wayang on the back.
Not of much use cutting the web out she keeps a watch on anyone in case trouble pops up and readies her pistol again. Seeing their success she helps carry everything back to camp.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hearing Brock's connection she thinks she might have some "knowledge" to help out a deal in these parts.
Diplomacy (Aid): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
"If I can just bite my tongue and fix my hair up I might be able to get them to sweeten the deal. Hopefully. Or I could wave around my pistol!" Sin jokes whiles carefully attending to her appearance. It is clear she knows how to take care of herself but finds it to normally be a bother...unless money is on the line.
| GM ShieldBug |
Sorry, Danicka, that was just a joke about Yaiho's information gathering technique. The rumours are about him. ;)
I'll let Brock describe any potential alternative buyers, and then I'll need y'all to decide who you want to approach. Both spoilers are now available thanks to Sinaryn's assist.
Yaiho Crasher

I had a feeling the Intimidate wouldn't work for Aid, but worth a try and the idea of Yaiho going around asking was just funny.
Brock Swiftread

Brock muses, then continues.
"According to some of my more... unsavory... contacts there are two more interested parties. First is an apothocary, Esmerilly Vanderprood. She's in debit to the Poisoner's guild over a failed delivery and desperate to make good or else.
Next is the merchant, Narngar Ninefingers who is, by reputation a shrewd negotiator but apparently a poor gambler. He owes, and needs product."
Stopping to ponder a moment, he goes on. "Our original contact, Vox, is a sure sell but probably the least lucrative. Vanderprood could be more profitable, if we can play it right. Ninefingers has the most to lose, most likely more than fingers, and would probably be our best bet for profit... but he is a wily and experienced negotatior, so theres more risk of him outplaying us."
He finishes. "So we need to just decide how much work we want to put in. I like high risk high reward, so I vote we put the screws to Ninefingers, but as long as we get paid, I'm in. Thoughts?"
I think I interpreted the spoilers right. My neighbor stopped by, so naturally I'm a bit drunk...
Danicka Raburnus
|
"Oh, it's us?" Danicka exclaims, mortified when she realizes the fierce rumours she heard were about themselves. "Oh, dear..."
---
"I'm not a very good negotiator..." Danicka points out, stating the obvious. "Maybe go with..." At that her voice trails off to a whisper and she looks at the ground, blushing. She finishes the rest in a whisper, "The easy sale."
Suddenly she shakes her head. "Nevermind. Whatever you think is best."
Yaiho Crasher
|
Yaiho listens to Brock. "More reward better. Yaiho make Ninefingers, Eightfingers if not make good deal. Yes?"
Umbrutani Shadnani
|
Umbru sighs a quiet sigh of relief after the second spider is taken down, stoically receiving the slap of celebration from Sinaryn, trying to keep the look of surprise and confusion from his face. Strange custom here in the west. They slap people to celebrate? He gives her a rather formal-looking smile, then pads over to the spider to provide some direction of where to retrieve the gland.
---
Umbru clearly starts getting uncomfortable when they return to Daggermark, with the bright garish sun. With wayangs still not very common in the west, many eyes staring at him, which only exacerbate his discomfort. He presses himself close to the rest of the party, seemingly trying to fade into their shadows, with little success.
With a small bow of his head, Umbru pipes up softly. "I apologise but I have little opinion in this matter. I am unfamiliar with the mercantile practices here, so I best leave it in your hands."
Danicka Raburnus
|
Danicka pales at the thought of her good friend Yaiho torturing someone.
"But, that's... not very nice, Yaiho," she squeaks with wide, worried eyes.
Sinaryn
|
"Yaiho. A brute after my own heart! The half-orc knows how to do business right! I think we can bend his ears or arm or what ever it takes to get the sale." Sinaryn cheers the choice of Ninefingers.
Danicka Raburnus
|
Did Sinaryn just cheer at the thought of harming people? How horrible!
Clutching her staff tightly in her pale, bony hands, Danicka looks both worried, and angry.
| GM ShieldBug |
Totally worth it Yohai! I'm pretty open to y'all trying unusual things, but it is PFS so if it involves box text, I have to stick with it. ;)
Apart from Vanderpoof's name, you got it spot on, Brock! Okay, after 5 votes we have 3 for Ninefingers, 1 for Vox, and 1 abstain. Off to Ninefingers!
Despite Danicka's reservations, the more morally ambiguous members of the group feel that their negotiating technique will work wonders on Ninefingers, and Brock sets about getting a meeting with the man. A few hours later, you enter The Half-Full Chalice a particularly busy, if somewhat seedy, tavern in the merchants quarter of Daggermark. You find Ninefingers, a surprisingly thin dwarf sporting a scraggly beard and an impressive black eye, hunkered in the corner and nursing a tankard of ale. The poison merchant beckons you over and suggests that you should share a drink with him while he looks at your wares, "Ye should ne'er discuss business with a dry throat!"
After examining the silk glands, Ninefingers looks at you disapprovingly, "'Ere I was lookin' fer adhesive an' you give me a sack o' goo? Nah, all that time fer me tah extract what I need... 'Ardly worth me time that!" He scratches his beard with a freshly bandaged and gnarled looking hand, looking thoughtful, "Bah! I'm feelin' charitable, an' I'm a willin' to make ye an offer..." He offers 200 gp as well as two flasks of alchemist’s fire and three potions of cure light wounds, "...Ye will ne get a better deal than that, I can tell ya!"

Forrest, though uncomfortable with the thought of torture, follows the group at the bar. Once there he breaks his rule and purchases a pint. In an attempt to impress Sin, he downs the glass in one swallow. And immediately becomes incredibly drunk. Unfortunately, his stupor prevents him from noticing the quality of the deal being offered. "Whoa! He is throwing in some alchy fire! What a nice guy! " He almost falls off his stool.

Brock frowns at the merchant, "Come now, you can do better. This is top quality webbing, not some goo!. We can take this stuff to anyone and make more than a few hundred and some paltry potions. I've got an alchemist on the line who is offering twice what you are, give me some leverage so I can help you avoid becoming "Eightfingers"."
Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
He's totally honest and up front guys, don't worry...
Sigh, I just realized I have higher intimidate (thought bluff was my best), should have tried that. Not that an 11 will succeed where a 10 fails
Danicka Raburnus

Worried and nervous, Danicka follows her comrades to the Half-Full Chalice. She looks around the dive with wide eyes, having never been in such a despicable place before...
Oh, my!
If anyone makes eyes contact with her she blushes and looks at the floor, and if anyone bumps into her she lets out a little shriek, then apologizes profusely to whoever bumped into her for being in the way.
Danicka slips into a chair at his table, but shakes her head 'no.' "No, I... I really shouldn't." she says meekly, turning down the offer of liquor.
It smells like urine in here! How can anyone drink anything? It's so unhygienic! And what is that man doing in the corner? ...Oh my!
Danicka turns her attention firmly to the strange dwarf, to prevent her from seeing the sights going on around her.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
"Why are you in such a rush, sir?" Danicka asks curiously. "Do you have someplace else to be?"
At the sound of Brock threatening to take a finger, Danicka exclaims, "Oh, my! Please sir, bump the price up a bit. I'd really prefer this didn't turn to torture... I have a weak stomach."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
For the record, Danicka entirely believes and is afraid that this poor fellow might lose a finger.
| GM ShieldBug |
Interesting choice, Forrest, having a drink while discussing business with a poison merchant. ;)
Ninfingers' eyes narrow as Brock speaks, "Aye, but does ye alchemist know how much work will be needed to make this usable?" he says, as he dismissively waves a hand at the glands, "I doubt they would give ye a better deal than mine if they did." He smiles at Forrest and points at him with his middle finger, the index being missing, "This lad has the right of it! I have ne the patience for your foolin' around."
When Danicka mentions torture, he quickly hides his hands under the table, "Torture!? What kind o' people are you?" He glances at the door, then at Yaiho, and back to the silk glands, "I... I'm not sure 'bout this no more." He looks extremely conflicted, "Please, I'm just 'ere to make some quick money, so as I can avoid this sorta conversation with folks a lot scarier than you, lass... Be reasonable."

Taking his cue, Yaiho looks at Ninfingers. "Yaiho think you can make better offer. Yaiho think you are smart Eightfinger." Yaiho emphasis the eightfinger part.

Interesting choice, Forrest, having a drink.
Well, gotta RP that -1! Forrest probably forgot he was dealing with a criminal entirely.
Forrest sighs at the group's heavy handed and poorly performed intimidation tactics. Why are we still here? I haven't even had four pints yet! I should be at the bar.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Forrest, an angry drunk (apparently), jumps onto the table. He points at Ninefingers and proclaims loudly, "YOU sssSIR, ARE DELAYING MY NEXT DRINK! PAY THE MAN! "

Ninefingers' eyes go wide as Yaiho threatens his remaining digits, and he tugs at his collar. However, Forrest gets a much bigger reaction. The dwarf shrinks back into his chair as the angry halfling jumps on the table, Ninefingers swallows and says, "I... I 'ave nothin' left save fer information... Two 'undred gold is all I 'ave left! The lousy cheats at the poker table took the rest, an' they'll be wantin' more soon. But me information's good, I swear! Worth thousands in the right 'ands. 'Ands like you folk 'ave if I'm not mistaken... Please, it's all I 'ave left to offer, I need this deal!"
Umbrutani Shadnani

Umbru once again only asks for a glass of water, and wipes the rim very carefully with his scarf before partaking on the fluid.
As per his nature, he sits quietly observing the interactions, especially noting Danicka's reaction to the Ninefingers and his rather worked up reaction to the halfling, a creature half his size. Umbru decides to step in with a voice of reason.
"Please, it is best if we all stay calm in the negotiations. None of us will harm." Umbru does quickly glance over to Yaiho though. "There were some risks involved in acquiring these alchemical items, and being a practitioner myself, I know they are indeed valuable components. Perhaps it might be best for all present if you share with us the information, and let us be the judge of the value of it. Gold is something tangible we can assess, but the worth of information comes only from knowing it."

Brock smiles as th group goes through some rather impressive antics, apparently successful none the less.
Not really what I had planned, but lets just roll with it
Keying on Umbru's soothing tones, he seeks to assist in calming the man down.
"It's OK, we can certainly still talk deal. We have a commodity, you have a commodity, and I'm sure we can find an amicable solution. Knowledge is power, they say, and we are all ears for this information you offer. Assuming it is legit, of course."

Ninefingers wipes his brow, which has started to moisten significantly since the Pathfinders approached him. "Okay, well there was this 'alf-orc, an' she was blathering about some important blade or sword or sommint she found. Moonsilver, Sliver'ex, or somesuch. Kept going on 'bout its 'istory to any who would listen." The merchant leans towards Umbru (and away from Forrest) conspiratorially. "Well I 'ave it from the 'orse’s mouth, so to speak, that she won’t be needin’ that sword where she’s headed." Ninefingers draws a bandaged hand across the neck, making an unpleasant sound. "The Vessels Between will 'ave that one soon enough. You just need to go out there an' grab that sword once they’re through, and I 'appen to 'ave a contact who'll give me the location of her 'iding place once they find it." He leans back again, suddenly unsure if the information is enough, "I... I'll let ye folks know as soon as the Vessels Between are organised... I bet you'd even get to her 'iding spot before they do! Easy money that. Ye can't say it ain't worth those sacks."
Forrest Glavo

Forrest gets off the table, barely keeping his balance. "That's ssome good information right there! I'm done here. " He then stumbles off to get another drink. (Hopefully of water. )
Danicka Raburnus
|
"Eeek!" Danicka shrieks as Forrest jumps on the table. She puts a hand over her rapidly beating heart. Please don't hurt me! Calm down! It'll be fine! He wasn't even talking to you!
---
Danicka lets out a sigh of relief that the conversation is continuing and blood hasn't been spilled.
"Oh my..." she mutters quietly at the news that Ulisha's in danger. Well, MORE danger.
"Thank you for adding information onto the bargain," Danicka quickly adds, hoping to hurry the poor dwarf out of here before he loses any fingers from her terrifying friends. "We'll take the coin, potions and alchemist's fire and you take these fine silk glands. Yup, yup, hurry along now." shy urges, adding in a whisper "Before they change their minds!"
| GM ShieldBug |
The poor dwarf nods enthusiastically and empties his purse of every single coin, plus a few buttons, before rummaging through his array of belt pouches for the potions and flasks of alchemist's fire, "Here ye are, lass!" He holds out his hands expectantly for the silk glands and the webbing that cocooned the eggs, "I'll send word on the sword soon as I get it..." He looks at Danicka, "But if ye ever have anythin' else to sell, I'll only talk to you and the Wayang." With the deal done, and the contact details settled on probably an inn in town that you plan on staying in?, Ninefingers beats a hasty retreat.
End of Part 1
It's mid afternoon in Daggermark, and the Pathfinders have time to celebrate a successful deal in the Half-Full Chalice and consider their next move. Even if that next move just involves moving to a nicer part of the city.
Time to pick a new scenario, but I won't be able to update again tonight so y'all have plenty of time to celebrate and decide :)

Brock chuckles as the dwarf scurries away. "If we were in a higher class of town I'd be worried about that one sullying our reputation. In this town, lets jist keep an eye out for assassins. Though, I doubt he can afford any."
Standing up, he continues. "I need a drink. We need to travel for our next tasks, I say we find a nice tavern, not a dive like this, and tip back a few. Work on travel plans in the morning."
He looks about, "Any takers?"
I have no preference as to where we go next
Danicka Raburnus

Danicka takes the gold, buttons and various vials from the dwarf, and puts them on the table.
She's completely red-faced, but for once it's not because she's shy.
"That- that- that!" she stutters angrily. "Oh!" she growls. "That man offered us a good deal, and you threatened to break his fingers for a bit more coin! I- I-" she looks around at Yaiho, Sinaryn, Forrest, and even Brock. "I'm... I'm MAD." she exclaims.
This is clearly a situation she rarely encounters.
She looks at Yaiho and says in a softer voice. "And I am disappointed."
She stands up and steps away from the table.
"Where are we spending the night?" she asks Brock.

Be glad our positions weren't reversed, he would have threatened, and done, worse if we were the desperate ones." Looking at Danika (hopefully) earnestly, "The bluff may have gotten us the only chance we'll get at saving Ulisha's life."
Looking to the others in the group, "I only know the parts of town we don't want to be spending the night in. Any of you know their way around the nicer parts, if such exist, of this town?"

He returns to the group glumly and proceeds to ignore Danicka's chastising. He turns to Brock and Yaiho. "Maybe we best go find this crashed meteor next. I don't think she likes how we treat people. Brock nods at the half orc, "Good idea, I bet she could steer us in the right direction, she seemed respectable."
To the halfling's suggestion, "the meteor sounds as good a lead as anything else, I have no preference and will be happy to go where we all decide."
Leaning in closer so Danika can't hear, "Should anyone try to stop us she's really not going to like how we treat people, am I right?" he finishes with a downright malicious grin.
Looking away, he smiles again to himself, I might just like this group. Apart from the wizard they are my kind of group.
"I wonder if there's a gambling den near by..." he grumbled to himself as the group leaves the dive bar.

Sin frowns at the reaction from Danicka. Not often does she deal with those that are squeamish of her brash actions. Not often she is faced with the thin line she walks. "Danicka...we weren't going to actually hurt the man. They speak a different language down here."
The ports and corners like this one don't leave room for weakness. I never killed or hurt a man who didn't deserve it...
Sin sighs and goes back to counting their profit.
---
Surprised and impressed the halfling is still standing. She shares another drink with them and agrees to help navigate them to a finer establishment before their next mission.
"Aye, the meteor is fine lest our friend jump onto another table. I question his balance after a few more drinks!" she laughs while they head out.
She whispers to Brock about the best places to find gambling dens. "Oh they are plenty easy to find and if you aren't superstitious I can show you some games we played with my harrow deck on long hauls."
Brock Swiftread

Brock smiles widely, "Aye, I would love to learn your new games, one can never know enough games, especially on long hauls. Many a night as a caravan guard we pined for a new game to play."
He happily walked along with the group chatting with the interesting undine woman about gambling and other skulduggery.
I find it amusing that Danika hates killing, yet 3 of our classes have a mechanic predicated on making killing blows (though I don't get panache till lvl 4). Poor Danika :)

She looks at Brock warily, but in the end believes his lies. She sits back down, and throws a suspicious glance at Sinaryn and Forrest, clearly not sure how far they would have gone...
"What a fine idea, Yaiho," Danicka agrees. "I'm sure Rora knows of someplace safe to stay the night."
As the group leaves the dive bar Danicka follows. She walks at the back of the group, quiet and uncomfortable, clearly unsure how much she can trust her 'friends.'
